Young Thug Was Charged With A Stack Of New Felonies In The RICO Case Against YSL

Atlanta news station WSB-TV reports Young Thug, who is currently incarcerated in Fulton County Jail awaiting trial on racketeering charges, has been assessed a litany of new charges including drug, firearm possession, and robbery charges. According to a statement given to XXL by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, “Charges were added for defendants via re-indictment based on evidence found at arrests. When Mr. Williams was arrested on May 9, evidence was recovered that resulted in the additional charges, including a charge of possession of a machine gun.”

Back in May, Thug, Gunna, Yak Gotti, and other members of a purported street gang going by Young Slime Life, or YSL, were indicted on 56 counts of murder, armed robbery, and conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act (aka racketeering). Young Thug was initially indicted on the latter thanks to repeated mentions of YSL — also the acronym for his label, Young Stoner Life — in his lyrics. However, he was charged with seven additional felonies after police raided his home, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a dangerous weapon or silencer (which covers sawed-off-shotguns, sawed-off rifles, or machine guns). Many of the re-indictment charges are based on these.

Thug, Gotti, and Gunna have all pled “not guilty” and maintained their innocence, although they were also denied bail. Their trial was set for January 9, 2023.

Kim Kardashian is taking to the internet to declare that she wants Gunna released from jail amid his pending Rico charges.  The 29-year-old YSL rapper was arrested in May on charges of racketeering, drug possession with intent to distribute as well as receiving stolen property.

Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, pled not guilty to the charges but was denied bond and is set to remain in a Georgia jail until January 2023, when he’ll face trial.

The Skims owner is now voicing her support for Gunna, tweeting “#FreeGunna” and emojis that reference his most popular song, Pushin P.

Kim Kardashian has made a reputation for herself in the past few years, helping to secure the release of a number of inmates. The soon to be a lawyer, visited former President Donald Trump on behalf of small-time drug-trafficker, Alice Marie Johnson, and he pardoned her life sentence a week later.

The state’s prosecution has argued that Gunna plays a leadership role in the YSL crime family and that he will be able to intimidate witnesses if he is let out on bond. Along with Young Thug, Gunna is facing a 56-count indictment.

Gunna maintains that the allegations are false and he is innocent. His attorney’s claim, “The indictment falsely portrays his music as part of a criminal conspiracy.”

Gunna Grins Through A Video Call With His Godson From Jail Despite Being Denied Bail

It looks like Gunna‘s incarceration isn’t keeping him down too much; a video on social media revealed that he was able to grin through a video call with his family recently, despite being denied bond again in the ongoing racketeering case against him and other members of YSL. The short clip focuses on his reaction to a baby that some outlets identify as his godson, who chuckles when Gunna calls him “real playa.”

Gunna was indicted in May as one of 28 members of YSL (Young Slime Life), which the Fulton County D.A. called a “hybrid street gang” thanks to its alleged association with YSL (Young Stoner Life) Records. The group’s members were charged with a litany of offenses including murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and more. Gunna, who was specifically charged with violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, surrendered a few days later.

Gunna’s trial date was set for January 9, 2023, but he and Young Thug were both denied bond in May, while Gunna was more recently denied bond again earlier this month. In spite of it all, he called 2022 “one of the best years of my life” in an open letter from jail, perhaps owing to the success of his song “Pushin P” and album DS4EVER.

[WATCH] Gunna Smiles and Laughs with His Godson in Video Call From Jail

Gunna Gives Out His Number On Twitter: (470) 206-3380

In a new video that has hit social media, Gunna can be seen on a video call with his godson. The currently jailed rapper was all smiles as he spoke with those on the other side of the video call. Throughout the short clip, there is laughter and smiles as Gunna salutes his godson for looking like a “playa”.

Gunna was recently denied bond for the second time. Shortly before he released his first statement since being jailed on a 56-count indictment in Georgia along with Young Thug and the rest of YSL Records.

Currently being held in Fulton County Jail, Gunna spoke about the opportunity that he provided for other professionals and his loved ones.

The statement, in part, reads:

“The picture that is being painted of me is ugly and untrue. My fans know I love to celebrate life, I love my family, I love travel, I love music, I love my fans. I have all faith that God will grant me justice for the purity in my heart and the innocence of my actions.”

Gunna also spoke to the constraints on his art as a freedom of expression:

“My art is now allowed to stand alone as entertainment, I’m not allowed that freedom as a Black Man in America. It is a sad reality that slavery is still alive in America today and still affecting my people. In 12 states more than half of the prison population is Black, one of those states is Georgia.”

Gunna Is Denied Bail A Second Time And Will Remain In Jail Until Early 2023

In May, the YSL crew was charged with 56 counts of conspiracy to violate the RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act, including violations for drugs, guns, and even murder. Gunna surrendered and was booked into the Fulton County Jail, and then was, along with Young Thug, denied bond requests as the presiding judge declared them a flight risk.

Yesterday, the rapper was denied bond again when he appeared at his virtual court date. According to 11Alive, Gunna will remain in jail until the early 2023 trial date. The judge argued that Gunna poses a threat and could intimidate potential witnesses.

In addition to the initial two charges against Thug, seven more were added as a result of a raid at his home in Buckhead; those charges include possession of controlled substances with the intent to distribute, possession of illegal firearms, and participation in criminal gang activity. According to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, YSL is considered a “hybrid criminal gang,” with both the label and the wider association around it tied to the Bloods. Some observers have also disputed the use of their lyrics as evidence to tie them to a larger conspiracy.
