Gunna Is Living Life Freely On “Hakuna Matata”

Gunna is refocused and all about being a better him on his brand-new album One of Wun. The fairly quick follow-up to a Gift & a Curse sees the College Park, Georgia flow master bring along just a few guests on his cruise to happiness. Offset, recent collaborator Normani, Leon Bridges, and Roddy Ricch, all do a solid job breaking some of the more monotonous stretches. However, Gunna still manages to be entertaining on his own, especially on “hakuna matata.”

It is clear that the trap veteran was not aiming for hits on this project. But “hakuna matata” is one of the tracks that comes closest to being easily digestible or one that could land on Spotify playlists. On this cut, Gunna raps about his new outlook moving forward, which is one of no regrets. Of course, Disney die-hards, or anyone who has seen The Lion King, knows this iconic phrase.

Young Wunna on tour, I BP the charter, livin’ hakuna matata (Hakuna matata) / Ain’t no more worries, I’m up at it early, yo’ n**** tryna figure out his problems (Figure out his problems).” Even though the beat on this song is reminiscent of a lot of the other cuts on One of Wun, it still sounds good. Gunna might also provide his strongest performance flow wise and slips and slides across the lowkey instrumental.

Stackin’ them racks in the safe and prepare for whatever, whenever it happеn (Whenever it happеn)
I put my trust in my faith, when I’m walking through straight, I don’t see no one else (See no one else)

Gunna & Roddy Ricch Are Doing Some Self-Healing On “Let It Breathe”

Ever since Gunna addressed the YSL RICO fiasco on his fourth studio album, a Gift & a Curse, it is clear that he has been doing some self-reflection. That has been evident from the College Park, Georgia rapper and singer working on his physical and mental health. The 30-year-old has posted tons of pictures on his social media platforms and his transformation has been nothing short of incredible. This new mindset that Gunna has is the main theme of his fifth LP One of Wun.

On “let it breathe,” for example, Gunna speaks about how he has been distancing himself from others and sit down with himself. Across the moody piano-backed instrumental, he decides that he is going to fortify his mental strength by hitting the gym and choosing who he surrounds himself with. Joining him on this journey to becoming a new man is Compton’s own Roddy Ricch. To be honest, we do not think there was anyone better to accompany Gunna on this track in particular.

His style is almost identical and a track with this kind of message comes a great time for Roddy. It seems that the narrative has shifted for him after his impressive debut album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial. Many felt he took a dramatic step back on his following effort LIVE LIFE FAST, and even on Feed Tha Streets III. “Lately, I’ve been slow to speak, still stay out they reach, ” Ricch says on the first line of his verse. That could refer to a lot of things, but it could be seen as he is taking time before making a new project. All in all, “let it breathe” is a strong offering from Gunna and his equally wounded partner.

I showed you real love, you ain’t have to stab me in my back, it was only us

Did Gunna Diss Drake On ‘Still Prevail’ From His New Album ‘One Of Wun?’

After exchanging diss tracks with Kendrick Lamar all weekend, Drake seemingly threw in the towel on Sunday night with the release of “The Heart Part 6.” From the song’s spoken outro, it seems that the Toronto superstar had grown tired of sparring with his Compton opponent, and wanted to move onto other things.

Unfortunately for Drake, it doesn’t look like the slew of rappers who joined in from seemingly all sides is interested in letting him walk away. In fact, some fans on Twitter noticed a line from Gunna’s album, One Of Wun, that suggests another fighter is jumping into the fray.

Did Gunna Diss Drake On His New Album?

Gunna, who released his new album One Of Wun today, appears to go after Drake on the song “Still Prevail.” In it, he rhymes, “I clear all the tabs, they pay for their abs,” evoking a similar jab that has been used against him by Kendrick, as well as Joe Budden, Rick Ross, and even Azealia Banks.

It has long been rumored that the “Hotline Bling” singer got liposuction on his midsection — a rumor that Drake has never denied (although, to be fair, you can’t prove a negative). If Gunna really is referring to Drake with that line, it would bring the total of former collaborators turned competitors to five (six, if you count Meek Mill).

Incidentally, fans were sure that Gunna actually had a beef with Future, who seemingly announced the release of a project of his own earlier this week (which turned out to just be a single) with a remark that fans thought disparaged the younger Atlanta rapper. It remains to be seen how that’ll play out, but for now, it looks like rap’s tangled web of civil conflicts just got even more complex.

Gunna Returns With Stylish But Overlong “One Of Wun” Album

Gunna has spent the last few years doing damage control. He was arrested in relation to the YSL Rico indictment, and his decision to cop a plea deal led to debate over whether he was “snitch.” It’s a tough label to tear off once it’s been applied, but the Georgia rapper has done a good job of redirecting fans back to his music. Gunna’s 2023 album, A Gift & a Curse, spawned his second top 10 hit, and his latest album, One of Wun, is an attempt to bolster his credibility as an artist.

One of Wun has some Gunna’s slickest album cuts to date. “whatsapp (wassam)” remains a standout, but it’s a credit to the uniformly excellent production that it sounds right at home. “collage” and “neck on a yacht” are braggadocios cuts that further the opulent, unhurried tone of the album as a whole. Gunna has more confidence than ever when it comes to finding catchy, unique rhyming pockets, and it shows. “On one tonight” and “still prevail” are low on substance but high on style. Frankly, that’s where Gunna excels.

Gunna Goes For a More Stylish, Relaxed Sound

One of Wun is surprisingly light on features, though it actually plays to the album’s benefit. It’s a breath of fresh air when Normami and Leon Bridges show up on “$$$” and “clear my rain,” respectively. Gunna does surprisingly well on these more soulful cuts. Offset and Roddy Ricch provide the only guest verses, and the former absolutely steals the show on “prada dem.” It’s probably still the best song on the album. The biggest knock against One of Wun is that it’s too long. It’s 20 songs, and even on first listen, you can pick out tracks that could’ve been cut. There’s a better album within the finished product we got.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album One of Wun by Gunna? Is this the rapper’s best album yet? Which song is your favorite and why? Do you think the rapper is throwing subs at Future? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Gunna. With a due date of May 10, 2024, One Of Wun will hit DSPs at midnight tonight, Eastern time (or 9 PM Pacific).

The album, which features appearances from Leon Bridges, Normani, Offset, and Roddy Ricch, is Gunna’s fifth studio album, following 2023’s A Gift & A Curse. Gunna released two singles from the album ahead of its release: “Prada Dem” with Gunna and “Whatsapp (Wassam).”

The album shares a release date with Future’s upcoming mixtape, prompting some fans online to speculate that the two Atlanta rappers might have a feud brewing.

Gunna is currently on tour promoting his last album, although the setlist for the Bittersweet Tour does include a handful of tracks from One Of Wun.

Over the two months, Gunna has been rolling out his fifth studio album, One Of Wun. Beginning with the release of the album’s first single, “Prada Dem,” featuring Offset, and culminating with the reveal of the tracklist just yesterday, Gunna has turned up the hype for One Of Wun with every move. Now, the only thing left to do is drop the album, which he’ll do Friday, May 10 (tomorrow). So, when can you stream the new album on Spotify?

The album will be on DSPs at midnight Eastern, 9 PM Pacific.

Incidentally, it looks like there might be one wrench in the works of Gunna’s master plan, though. Just days ago, Future announced the release of his own mixtape, after releasing two joint albums with Metro Boomin. Now, fans think Gunna and Future might just have joined in the widespread wave of conflict sweeping the hip-hop world. Fortunately, this time, Gunna won’t have to go it alone; in addition to Offset, his album tracklist (which you can see below) will also include another frequent collaborator, Roddy Ricch.

One Of Wun is out May 10 via Young Stoner Life Records / 300 Entertainment. You can get more info here.
