Fat Joe Explains Why Jay-Z Deserves No. 1 Rapper Spot

The results of Billboard and Vibe‘s Top Rappers list are in, and Jay-Z reigns supreme. The pick for the No. 1 Greatest Rapper of All Time doesn’t come as a surprise for Hip Hop fans; Hov has been hailed as a GOAT for years, and his worldwide impact on the culture and beyond is unmatched. From music to management to prison reform to politics to sport—Jay-Z and his team remain at the forefront of conversations far beyond entertainment.

However, as these Top lists often do, naming Jay as the No. 1 rapper ever has ruffled a few feathers. Fans want to see their favorites edge into those top spots—if not simply make the list—while others took to social media to call Hov overrated. Regardless of anyone’s take, Fat Joe jumped into the discussion to explain why he believes Shawn Carter deserves the accolades he receives.

In a video, Fat Joe said he agreed with Vibe and Billboard’s placement. He claimed it wasn’t political but detailed how he came to his conclusion. “Historically, there were certain rappers that were the gods at the time. Who had flows like nobody else. But when they got older in age, it almost sounded” outdated, said Joe. “It don’t sound current with 2023. Jay-Z just dropped ‘God Did’ where he spit for eight minute straight! And not ’cause he’s the richest. It’s just, I agree with it.”

He added that as rappers age, many of them struggle to maintain cultural relevancy. As Fat Joe puts it, “they fell off as they got older.” At the Grammys, Jay joined DJ Khaled, John Legend, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Fridayy for an epic performance of “God Did.” Sadly, the acclaimed track didn’t earn any Grammys despite several nominations. Still, fans took it as a win for Hip Hop overall, especially considering the 50th Anniversary tribute performance that saw our favorite pioneers come together.

Additionally, Nicki Minaj made Billboard and Vibe‘s Top 10 list. She earned herself the title of the No. 1 woman in Rap above her peers, solidifying for her Barbs that she, too, deserves her flowers. Check out Fat Joe’s hot take above.

LeBron James Believes He Is The GOAT

LeBron is just a game or two away from breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time scoring record. Of course, this is a massive accomplishment, for numerous reasons. Overall, people felt like this was a record that would never be broken. However, James is just 36 points away from doing so. He could do it tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder, although most believe it will be done on Thursday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. No matter what, it is going to be a truly one-of-a-kind accomplishment.

Subsequently, there are now all sorts of debates as to whether or not James can be considered as the GOAT of basketball. After all, he has won four NBA titles, is fourth in all-time assists, ninth in three-pointers made and will have the scoring title. Overall, one would assume this is enough to make you the GOAT. Although, most analysts and fans still believe that the crown goes to Michael Jordan. Ultimately, Jordan played fewer seasons and had a much better career scoring average. No matter what, it is very clear to everyone that these two are some of the best to ever do it.

LeBron Gives Himself Props

As for LeBron himself, it is clear that he thinks highly of what he has done. Since entering the league back in 2003, LeBron had made it clear that he wanted to be the best ever. According to Kyle Goon of the Orange County Register, he has achieved that status. One might find it strange to pronounce yourself the GOAT. However, LeBron has certainly earned the right to do it. “What I bring to the table as a basketball player…I feel like I’m the best basketball player that ever played the game,” LeBron said.

Of course, there are going to be a lot of people out there who straight-up disagree with his assessment of himself. Regardless, every player should believe they are the best ever. That mentality has ultimately gotten James to where he is now. Consequently, he is staring at the scoring record straight in the face. Hopefully, he can get it done this week so that we can see just how incredible the reactions will be. No matter what, it is well deserved.

Drake Calls The-Dream The GOAT After Grammys

Drake just shouted out the iconic songwriter The-Dream for his multiple wins at the 65th Grammy Awards this Sunday (February 5), labeling him a “GOAT.” Moreover, the Atlanta artist won four Grammys through his work on Beyoncé’s smash album, RENAISSANCE. She won Best Dance/Electronic Album, Best Dance/Electronic Recording, Best R&B Song, and Best Traditional R&B Performance. Furthermore, the first three categories went to The-Dream as well, given his work as writer and producer for “BREAK MY SOUL” and “CUFF IT.” After the ceremony, Drake posted a picture of The-Dream to his Instagram story with a simple emoji of a goat.

However, the songwriter’s success also came parallel to Beyoncé’s record-breaking wins. After the Recording Academy handed out awards during their 2023 ceremony, she became the most awarded artist in Grammys history. During her acceptance speech, she graciously thanked her family, supporters, and God for her blessings. Also, she acknowledged the deep roots of RENAISSANCE‘s musical style, particularly its embrace of dance music, specifically house. “I’d like thank the queer community for your love, and for inventing the genre,” she said to loud cheers.

Still, the 6 God’s praise of The-Dream is unsurprising given their collaborations. Although it’s well-deserved, it’s also slightly ironic considering Drizzy’s relationship to the Grammys. Moreover, he won for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his contributions alongside Tems to Future’s “WAIT FOR U.” Ironically, he boycotted the ceremony and still ended up with a win. Regardless, he rose above his personal situation to acknowledge greatness, specifically The-Dream’s longstanding influence and talent.

While Beyoncé led the pack with four wins, the most out of any artist this year, many believe RENAISSANCE deserved better. In a surprising and controversial move, the Recording Academy picked Harry Styles’ Harry’s House for Album of the Year. Not only that, but RENAISSANCE’s big nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year also went unfulfilled. Still, awards mean nothing to either Harry or Beyoncé, who are two incredibly dominant artists regardless of a gramophone. It just stings when so much promotional material and buzz built around RENAISSANCE‘s massive success. Check out the full list of winners here and check back in with HNHH for the latest on The-Dream and the Grammys.

Charlamagne Tha God Calls Kodak Black The GOAT, Compares Him To Kendrick Lamar

Well, we know who bumped “Silent Hill” the most last year. Charlamagne Tha God recently called Kodak Black “the GOAT” and compared him to Kendrick Lamar. While some may find the comparison absurd, they did collaborate on the Compton rapper’s latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. Moreover, the radio host explained why he holds the two in a similar regard.

“Kodak is the GOAT,” tha God stated. “I was watching that video and I was thinking to myself like, ‘Man, do people realize how dope Kodak Black is, yo? Not just as a personality, but as a rapper, as an artist. You know these true hip-hop heads will be like ‘Ah, man, you’re talking about Kodak Black…’

“I look at Kodak Black the same way I look at Kendrick Lamar,” he continued. “I’m not even joking. I feel like they’re both two different levels of prolific. They’re telling similar stories, just from different places. They’re just two different versions of the same kid from the hood.”

Furthermore, a lot of fans might consider this a hot take. However, Charlamagne has plenty more where that came from, and other opinions of his caused even more debate. Recently, the media personality expressed his skepticism regarding Chief Keef when naming his list of the most influential rappers.

“No, you know why I don’t put Chief Keef in there?” he remarked. “Because Chief Keef didn’t influence the world, he influenced a sound of a region. Those four people I named literally influenced people all over the world.” Previously, the host mentioned his picks for the top spots. “I’m not going to say the order number, but there’s four: Kanye, Jay-Z, Pac and Wayne. The four most influential rappers of all time.”

Meanwhile, G Herbo was one of many both inside and outside the rap game to disagree. “What Charlamagne said, he don’t feel like Sosa is one of the most influential, like, globally but I disagree,” the Chicago MC expressed. “Probably right now you don’t feel like that ‘cause you got the Drakes, the Futures. You got so many but I feel like it wouldn’t be a lot of artists if it wasn’t for Sosa. I’m talking about a lot of styles, though.” Even the “Don’t Like” MC himself chimed in on the debate.

Still, what do you think of Charlamagne Tha God praising Kodak Black and likening him to Kendrick Lamar? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, check back in with HNHH for the latest hot takes, debates, and kindred spirits in the game.
