Quotable Lyrics:

Big cappin’, reenactments, some are jealous, some are fractured
Some’ll watch them dreams slip away, that’s another chapter
Change occupations, more abrasive, wanna change this season
Bang harder for a feature, soul Franklins like Aretha
Made me sick, how you snitch? Pussy purr like Eartha Kitt
Can’t determine if you think I’m ill, or you just ridin’ d***

Singer and founding Parliament-Funkadelic member Clarence Eugene “Fuzzy” Haskins is dead at 81. The news arrived today from Fuzzy’s Parliament bandmate George Clinton, who took to Instagram to honor the late artist.

“We are saddened to announce the passing of an original Parliament-Funkadelic member, Clarence Eugene “Fuzzy” Haskins (born June 8, 1941-March 17th, 2023),” read the post’s caption.

Fuzzy and Clinton first began working together in 1960, when Fuzzy become part of Clinton’s Doo Wop group, The Parliaments. Parliament later evolved into Parliament-Funkadelic in the ’70s, however, in 1976, he parted ways with the group due to financial and management differences. Still, Clinton still considered him family, according to Clinton’s website.

At the time of writing, a cause of death had not yet been reported. Several musicians have taken to social media to pay tribute to Fuzzy.

“Rest In Funkentelechy my brother,” said Questlove of The Roots.

“Prayer’s going out to Clarence ‘Fuzzys’ Haskins family & friends.,” said his P-Funk bandmate Bootsy Collins. “We lost his frequency today. 3-17- 23. He was an original Parliament/Funkadelic inducted in the RHOF. We will miss u my friend, bandmate & Soul brother! Thx u for ur guidance in my pup year’s. Bootsy baby!!”

In 1997, Fuzzy was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The organization posted a tribute from their Twitter account recalling his legacy.

“As P-Funk pushed boundaries further and further on classic albums like Mothership Connection and Maggot Brain and set a futuristic pace for Black music,” they said. “Haskins kept things connected to their street corner harmony roots.”

Screen Shot 2022 04 01 at 2.32.13 AM 1

First Dolemite, and now George Clinton.

According to Deadline, Eddie Murphy is currently in early talks to play Parliament-Funkadelic founder George Clinton in an upcoming biopic. Murphy is also set to serve as a producer on the project with Dolemite Is My Name collaborator John Davis and Catherine Davis.

Murphy and Davis are currently looking at securing the rights to bring the P-Funk founder’s life to the big screen. Once the rights are secured, they will hire writers and shop the project to different studios. The project is a part of Murphy’s three-movie deals with Amazon Video that came after the success of Coming 2 America.

The film focuses on Clinton’s upbringing in North Carolina in the 1940s and will show the formation of Parliament-Funkadelic and the band’s impact on hip hop artists such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, and Ice Cube.

Murphy’s upcoming George Clinton project is a “passion project” for him. Murphy took a few years from acting before returning with 2019’s Dolemite Is My Name. Murphy garnered acclaim for his portrayal of Rudy Ray Moore and even received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Murphy is set to appear in Netflix’s You People later this year, directed by Kenya Barris and co-written by Jonah Hill. The star-studded cast includes Lauren London, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Duchovny, Nia Long, Sam Jay, and Molly Gordon.

Murphy is also set to reprise his role as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop IV.

Eddie Murphy Will Get Funked Up As George Clinton In A Biopic About The Parliament-Funkadelic Leader

After starring as the “Godfather of Rap” in My Name is Dolemite, Eddie Murphy will portray another legendary “godfather” in an upcoming biopic.

Deadline reports that the Coming to America actor is in “early talks” to play George Clinton, the “Godfather of Funk” who has led the Parliament-Funkadelic collective since the late 1960s. The passion-project film “will tell the story of the iconic musician’s humble beginnings in North Carolina in the 1940s, to the formation of his groundbreaking band George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic, and ultimately to becoming a musical influence on artists of the hip-hop generation including Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Outkast, and Wu-Tang Clan, among many others.”

“Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker),” “One Nation Under a Groove,” and “Flash Light” are the songs you hear on the radio, but be sure to take a deeper dive into the Parliament and Funkadelic discographies, as well as Clinton’s solo material. Not only for the funky grooves, but also the song titles. I, for one, can’t wait to hear Eddie Murphy sing “Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow,” “Standing on the Verge of Getting It On,” and my personal favorite, “Do Fries Go with That Shake?”
