French Montana Secures Partial Victory In The Lawsuit Surrounding His 2013 Song ‘Ain’t Worried About Nothin’

French Montana spends a lot of time tied up in litigation. Late last month, the “Keep It Real” rapper was hit with a civil lawsuit for $50,000 over a shooting that occurred on the set of one of his music videos. Although no major updates have taken place in that case, another one of the cases he’s battling has shifted in his favor.

Back in 2019, the rapper was sued for intellectual property infringement that claimed his 2013 song “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” stole the instrumental from Eddie Lee Richardson (professionally known as Hotwire the Producer). However, in documents exclusively retrieved by HipHopDX, the judge presiding over the case, Nancy L. Maldonadom, has partially ruled in Montana’s favor.

Maldonado granted a summary motion to three of his five issues against producer Richardson. The judge did, however, deny the rapper’s request to rule that “any infringement was innocent or not willful.” The outlet notes that Richardson had conceded three of the five points in the lawsuit, and the judge’s summary motion leaves Montana to fight it out on the remaining two points (public performance with the instrumental and derivative works).

Tyiase Hasan, the representative for Richardson told Law360 piece, “There were no objections, and the parties were already in agreement.” adding, “the infringement here is as plain as day.”

On the other side, Dariush Adli, who represents Montana, said, “We believe the jury will likely not find the infringement to have been willful because the undisputed evidence shows that plaintiff reached out to French only once, in 2013, about potential [infringement] and that French referred him to the music producer, Rico Love.” He added, “However, plaintiff did not sue Rico Love because the 3 years statute of limitations had run on that claim.”

French Montana Facing $50,000 Lawsuit Over Music Video Shooting

French Montana Declines Deb Antney's Claims That Gucci Mane Robbed Him For a Verse

Multi-platinum rapper French Montana is being sued months after one of his music video shoots in Florida ended in a hail of bullets.

Carl Leon, who was an extra during the video shoot in January, claims that the rapper did not do enough to prevent the injury of at least ten people. French’s attorney denies the allegations and states that Leon’s claim is a “profit play and a publicity stunt.” Leon alleges in his lawsuit that the Montana music video shooting was a “preventable, foreseeable incident” if Montana and his label had received the correct permits for video production. Leon is also suing the restaurant and Gayles Plaza, which owns the strip where the shooting occurred.

As many as ten people were shot on Jan. 5 in The Licking Restaurant in the Miami Gardens parking lot, where French Montana and rapper Rob49 were filming a music video for the song “Igloo.” An unidentified man opened fire with an assault rifle, barricading himself with a $400,000 car used as a prop.

“It was an extremely unfortunate situation that led to multiple people suffering serious injuries,” Leon’s attorney Josiah Graham, tells Rolling Stone. “The most egregious thing is that people were beaten up and robbed at this video shoot and the [production] did not shut down. “Montana continued to video shoot, moved it across the street, and those assailants returned and shot the place up,” he adds. “Things like that should not be able to go on.”

Leon’s attorney stated in the suit that his client has suffered “great bodily injury, pain, mental anguish, and loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life” and is seeking $50,000 in addition to legal fees.

French Montana Was Sued For $50,000 Over A Shooting That Occurred At A Music Video Shoot In Florida

After being hit with informal threats of litigation, French Montana may actually see a courtroom after his video shoot for the single “Igloo” ended in a shooting. According to TMZ, the rapper and the video’s director, Rob49, have now at the center of a $50,000 lawsuit.

Carl Leon, the plaintiff named in the case, and his lawyer have submitted documentation outlining that he, along with nearly 80 other extras and crew members, were present at the time of the shouting. Leon also alleged that the Miami Gardens Police Department’s investigation into Montana proved that the rapper failed to get the necessary permits required by the city to “ensure the set was safe and secure with proper police protection.”

According to Complex, the shooting was not the only harmful act that occurred during the filming. In fact, Leon alleged that the filming was held in another location prior to ending up in The Licking in Miami Gardens. However, it was moved after a production staff member was supposedly robbed. While it isn’t clear if Leon was one of the gunshot victims, he is seeking $50,000 in damages.

Ted Anastasiou, French Montana’s legal representative, shared a statement exclusively with TMZ regarding Leon’s claims. Anastasiou said, “Carl Leon was never invited to the restaurant at the night of the incident. His interest in the litigation is solely to exploit and benefit financially from it, and his re-imagining of his invitation and current statements are simply an egregious profit play and publicity stunt.”

Anastasiou closed with, “Beyond rejecting Mr. Leon and his counsel’s claims, we implore them to take a good, long look in the mirror and ask whether their loved ones would respect them for trying to make a buck by blatantly lying.”

Following the incident, French Montana did issue a statement sending his thoughts and prayers to the victims, but he hasn’t spoken on the matter since.

French Montana’s Florida Music Video Shooting Results In Lawsuit Against Rapper

For French Montana, 2023 began on an obvious high note thanks to the arrival of his Coke Boys 6 project in tandem with DJ Drama and friends like Jeremih, EST Gee, and NAV. After that came the album’s Money Heist Edition, on which the rapper and his impressive roster of collaborators came through with nine new titles. Since then, we’ve also heard him on the amped-up “RATATAAAAA” alongside 2Rare, and the “Dat Way (Remix) with Krept & Konan, Abra Cadabra, BackRoad Gee, and more.

While his music has been undeniably impressive so far, Montana is now facing a lawsuit regarding a visual he was filming with Rob49 in Florida back in January. As you may recall, the duo was working on their “Igloo” video following the arrival of CB6, when gunshots surprisingly rang out, injuring a total of 10 people in the area. At the time, Delma Noel-Pratt, the local chief of police, released a statement seemingly blaming the “Unforgettable” rapper for the incident. According to their investigation, he failed to obtain the necessary permits from the city to ensure a safe and secure environment with proper police protection on set.

“Igloo” Music Video Shoot Gone Wrong

As TMZ reports, Montana is now facing a lawsuit regarding the dangerous situation. It chiefly claims that the 38-year-old personally had the set location move to The Licking in Miami Gardens. The decision came following a robbery at their original location between production staff and anonymous assailants. One of the plaintiffs, Carl Leon, claims he was asked to be an extra in the “Igloo” video. He and at least 80 others were working on their respective parts of the project when an “unknown individual caused severe injury to multiple people,” including Leon.

The Miami PD made it clear that French Montana contacting them beforehand likely would have helped avert the situation, chastising him for failing to follow proper protocol. The Moroccan artist, as well as his Coke Boy label and The Licking restaurant have all been named as defendants in the lawsuit. According to attorney Josiah Graham of Graham Injury Firm, Leon is seeking upwards of $50,000 in damages, specifically accusing Montega and his other targets of being negligent. Rob49 Details Driving Himself To The Hospital After Getting Shot

Rob49, a rapper who hails from New Orleans, spent some time recovering after a shooting that took place in January. Now he is back in the public eye, and willing to dish out the details of what happened. Rob49 was on the set of a music video featuring another rapper, French Montana. While the crew was hard at work, the danger was lurking just around the corner. Despite starting his career in only 2020, the rapper quickly became a contender in the rapping game.

As a result, many opportunities to work with big stars fell into his lap. Rob49 took the chance to work with French Montana. The two set out to film a music video, but chaos turned into a full-blown shootout that night. As many as ten different people were shot in the violent scene, although luckily no one was killed. One of the people shot was Rob49, who took the fate of his life into his own hands. After being shot, the upcoming rapper got into a stranger’s car and began to drive himself to the hospital.

Rob49 Took Matters Into His Own Hands

In an interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, a podcast, Rob explains what happened directly after the shooting. “Yes I drove myself to the hospital, and I jumped in anybody’s car.” Understandably, the rapper did not concern himself with any social rules. “Went to the hospital, I said ‘alright’, we pull up to the hospital: hosptial closed.” After finding out the initial hospital was closed for the night, the artist took the driver to another hospital. He explains that he had been shot in the back by his lungs, and he knew that he had to act fast.

While driving to the trauma center, all of the tires on the car popped. The two were driving on the sidewalk to shorten their drive time, which led to the flat tires. After driving on the interstate with flat tires, the trauma center sent Rob49 back to the first hospital. Eventually, the poor artist got proper medical treatment for his wounds. Now he is recovering from the incident, and gets to boast about his bravery. To stay updated as the story unfolds, make sure to check back in.
