Shannon Sharpe Says He’ll Be Back On TV “To Cover Football Season”

There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Shannon Sharpe. The NFL Hall of Famer left Undisputed on Fox after seven years immediately after the NBA Finals. According to reports, a growing rift with co-host Skip Bayless led to Sharpe’s depature. While Undisputed appears to be moving on with the likes of Lil Wayne, Richard Sherman, and Rachel Nichols, Sharpe’s next step is still something of an unknown.

Of course, there’s a lot of push for him to join ESPN. Stephen A. Smith has explicitly said that he wants Sharpe to join the crew of First Take. While Sharpe has had his fun with those rumors, no official move has been announced. ESPN is still coming off massive talent layoffs in June. They would likely like to avoid the backlash they saw with bringing on Pat McAfee in the midst of that “cost-cutting” if they were to add Sharpe. However, the network did also just sign a $2 billion betting partnership so who knows where they now stand on massive talent contracts. Now, Sharpe has further teased his return to the small screen.

Sharpe Promises Fall Return To TV

“Don’t worry I’ll be back on tv soon to cover Football season 🫣🏈. These vacations are needed but, it’s too hot out here! I’m going back inside to the A/C where there’s cameras, microphones, and @leportiercognac 🥃📸🎙,” Sharpe said on X on August 9. Sharpe made no mention of where he would be appearing but it’s a promise of his return nonetheless. NFL preseason has already kicked off but the season proper begins on September 7. The Chiefs will host the Lions in the NFL Kickoff Game. Other highlights of Week 1 include a Monday Night Football showdown between the Jets and the Bills.

So where is Sharpe headed? The most likely answer is ESPN, where he will likely become a regular on First Take as well as have a new home for Club Shay Shay. However, there are several other major networks looking for star power. FanDuel is looking to fill the void left by McAfee’s own departure to ESPN. Plus, the betting giant also has seemingly endless money. However, with football season fast approaching, we don’t have long to wait before we found out where Sharpe’s next chapter will be.

O.J. Simpson Slams Judge For Henry Ruggs’ Light Sentence

Former NFL wideout Henry Ruggs III was sentenced to 10 years in prison with parole eligibility after three years on August 9. The sentence came in relation to a 2020 car crash in which Ruggs III struck the vehicle of Tina Tintor at 156mph. Ruggs III and his girlfriend suffered minor injuries. However, Tintor and her dog were killed after her vehicle caught fire as a result of the crash. The 3-10 sentence came despite the sentencing judge calling it “one of the more tragic cases” they had presided over. It is believed the sentence was part of a plea arrangement.

However, one particularly famous voice has spoken up in protest of the sentence – O.J. Simpson. In 2008, in the same courthouse as Ruggs III, Simpson received a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery. The former NFL star was granted parole eligibility after nine years served. Simpson had been arrested after executing an armed heist to steal pieces of his own memorabilia from a casino in Las Vegas. Simpson was arrested three days after the robbery. While Simpson was indeed paroled after nine years, he has taken issue with Ruggs III’s sentence.

Simpson Says “The Math Doesn’t Add Up”

Addressing his followers on X, Simpson lamented that the “math doesn’t add up” in Ruggs’ sentence. “I know I went to college on a football scholarship but somehow this math is not adding up to me. You’re driving a car at roughly 160 miles per hour on a public street and end up killing a girl and her dog and you get three to ten years?” Simpson began. “You go to a hotel room that you’re invited to retrieve your own personal stolen property, property I now have because it was ruled to be mine by the state of California, and you get nine to 33 years?”

Of course, there are differences between the Simpson and Ruggs cases. Ruggs pled guilty to his charges while Simpson was found guilty after a jury trial. Furthermore, justified or not, Simpson had the specter of his 1995 murder trial hanging over him. Many believe that Simpson’s sentence was so massive as it carried an unspoken punishment for the murders that Simpson was acquitted for 13 years prior.

Johnny Manziel Reveals Wild Details Of NFL Career In New Documentary

Everyone is talking about Untold: Johnny Football. The latest episode of the long-running Netflix series focuses on the infamous Johnny Manziel. Once considered the future of the Cleveland Browns, Manziel was out of the NFL after two disappointing seasons. Better known for his partying than his play, the documentary has been highly anticipated.

In the run-up to its release, a clip went viral in which Manziel revealed he had planned to kill himself after a “$5 million bender” to burn through whatever money he had left following his cut from the Browns. “I had planned to do everything that I wanted to do at that point in my life. Spend as much money as I possibly could and then my plan was to take my life. Months prior, I went and bought a gun I knew I was going to use. I wanted to get as bad as humanly possible to where it made sense and it made it seem like an excuse and an out for me.” However, turns out that the suicide story is just one of many wild stories from his time in the NFL.

Manziel Never Watched Film, Had A Planned Scheme To Avoid Combine Drug Test

Two stories from Manziel’s time in the NFL stand out as highlighting his wild lifestyle, and why he didn’t work out in the league. At one point, the Browns gave him an iPad filled with game tape. The iPad was also set up to track how much tape Manziel watched. It’s a fairly common move in today’s NFL, especially if a team is concerned about a player’s work ethic. Except, Manziel didn’t watch a single second of game tape. One Browns staffer interviewed for the documentary recalled being told that Manziel wasn’t watching tape, only to have it reiterated to him that Manziel wasn’t watching any tape. His watch tracker remained at 0.00.

Another story that the documentary focused on surrounded the NFL combine. Manziel was reportedly confused that he would not pass the mandatory drug test at the pre-draft event. So Manziel and his family constructed a plan. Manziel, who was a known quantity as a party animal, would arrive at the combine in Indianapolis as if he was ready to participate. His dad would then fake a heart attack, “forcing” Manziel to go home to be with his family. Furthermore, Manziel’s agent further claimed in the documentary that Manziel never got busted for drugs at Texas A&M because a fourth-string QB would take the drug tests for him.

Former NFL Pro Henry Ruggs III Gets Lengthy Jail Sentence For Fatal 2021 Car Crash

Henry Ruggs III has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charges of DUI resulting in death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. The charges stem from a 2021 incident in Las Vegas in which an intoxicated Ruggs hit the car of Tina Tintor at high speed, killing both Tintor and her dog. At the time of the collision, Tintor was traveling at 43mph while Ruggs was going 156mph. Ruggs was cut by the Raiders the day after the crash and pled guilty to all charges in May.

However, Ruggs may not serve his full sentence. Despite the sentencing judge telling Ruggs it was one of the more tragic cases she had ever seen, Ruggs will be eligible for parole in three years. “To the parents and family of Ms. Tintor, I sincerely apologize for the pain and suffering,” Ruggs said in a prepared statement. Tintor, whose family escaped war-torn Serbia to reside in the United States, was 23 at the time of her death. She had meant to pick up her father from work the morning she was killed in the crash with Ruggs. A number of her family were in the courtroom to watch the sentencing.

Who Is Henry Ruggs III?

Justifiably, Ruggs has become known primarily for the reckless crash that killed a young woman. It was a swift end to what was once a promising football career. Growing up in Montgomery, Alabama, Ruggs was a three-sport athlete. Considered one of the best recruits in the country, Ruggs received over 20 scholarship offers but chose to stay in-state and join Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide. He became core piece of Saban’s offense and helped the Tide win the College National Championship in his freshman year. Over three years with Alabama, Ruggs had 1716 yards and 24 touchdowns.

His speed and athleticism made him a valuable pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, where he was the first wide receiver off the board at #12. Joining the Raiders in their first season in Vegas, Ruggs was WR3 behind Nelson Agholor and Hunter Renfrow. He put up 452 yards and 2 touchdowns in his rookie year and had similar numbers in his sophomore season. However, none of this really matters. After a night out at Topgolf, Ruggs made the decision to drive drunk. It cost him his career but more importantly, it cost a young woman her life.

Colin Cowherd Makes Egregious Dwayne Haskins Error

Colin Cowherd is a sports talk television commentator who is known for having some controversial takes. He currently hosts The Herd over on FS1 where he can always be seen delivering some wishy-washy takes. Overall, Cowherd’s whole thing is saying an outlandish opinion, being proven wrong, then changing his opinion as if he was always right, to begin with. Although people see through this, other viewers just lap it up. He’s not as big as Skip Bayless or Stephen A. Smith. However, he doesn’t need to be as he already has a dedicated fanbase.

Today, Colin Cowherd found himself in a very bad spot. As you can see in the video clip below, he decided to do a segment on quarterbacks who cannot win a Super Bowl. Overall, the list is poorly researched as many of the QBs on the list are either retired or free agents. However, the most egregious error was the one about none other than Dwayne Haskins. Haskins passed away just a couple of years ago. Although, he still ended up on the list.

Colin Cowherd Puts His Foot In His Mouth

As you can imagine, fans were absolutely outraged over this. Most people were just shocked that Cowherd would be so callous in the way he spoke about Haskins. However, most noted that Cowherd probably didn’t even know that Haskins had passed away. This is a huge error and oversight. Of course, Cowherd is not the only one to blame here as someone provided some poor research prior to the airing of the segment. All-in-all, this is a PR nightmare for FS1.

Cowherd has yet to react to the backlash from this clip. However, he will likely have to, otherwise, things will only get worse. Alvin Kamara Receives Three-Game Suspension For 2022 Vegas Fight

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been suspended for three games for his role in a fight in Las Vegas in 2022. Kamara pled no contest last month in a deal that saw the charges against him dropped. Kamara and three other men initially faced misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit battery. Furthermore, they also faced a felony charge of battery with substantial bodily harm. However, Kamara’s plea means he will no longer face felony charges. Instead, Kamara pled no contest to a misdemeanor charge of breaching the peace.

Kamara met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell earlier this week to discuss the incident. “Obviously, I know that’s not really protocol, but I mean, he gave me the opportunity and I took it and went up there and met with him and it went well,” Kamara said. While no punishment was released at the time, Adam Schefter has since reported that Kamara will miss the first three games of the 2023 season. It will keep Kamara out of games against the Titans, Panthers, and Packers.

Kamara Apologizes For Fight Role

In a statement made before his suspension, Kamara apologized for his role in the altercation. “It’s a tough ordeal to be in. You know, I never want to be involved in something where someone gets hurt or severely injured or anything. Poor judgment on my end, definitely a bad decision, but I’m a man. Everything I’ve ever done in my life, I’ve stood on. And I can take accountability for it and I can say when I’m wrong and I was completely wrong.”

He continued. “Obviously, it’s hard to do that when you’ve got such an incident like that. I’ll be lying if I said it wasn’t tough,” Kamara said. “Lost a lot throughout this ordeal, definitely not looking for any pity, not looking for somebody to give me a pat on the back and say it’s OK. I know what I did, I know what I was involved in. I definitely take responsibility and that’s part of being a man and growing. From here, I just have to make the right decisions.”

Oregon And Washington Reportedly Agree To Join The Big Ten

The Pac-12 has reportedly lost two more members. Oregon and Washington have reportedly agreed to join the Big Ten in 2024. The news came less than an hour after it was reported that Oregon was preparing to reject the Big Ten’s offer. According to ESPN, the two schools will formally apply on August 4. The conference will hold an admission vote later on the same day. If all goes to plan, the Pac-12 could be down to just four members for 2024 by the end of the week.

The exodus from the prestigious west coast conference began last year when USC and UCLA announced that they would be moving to the Big Ten in 2024. They were followed by Colorado, who last month announced that they would be joining the Big 12 in 2024. Earlier this week, Arizona also announced they were in the process of finalizing their own move to the Big 12. Arizona State and Utah are expected to also join the Big 12. This may especially be the case in light of the news concerning Oregon and Washington.

Pac-12 All But Dead With Oregon And Washington Departures

If all deals play out as expected, four teams would be left in the Pac-12. Cal, Stanford, Oregon State, and Washington State would likely be expected to find new conferences. The other alternative will be to be folded into the Mountain West. The Pac-12 would not be able to rebuild as its primary target, the Mountain West, has a $32 million exit fee for any programs that try to leave before 2025. Meanwhile, while the West Coast Conference could restock the Pac-12’s basketball schools, it is not currently a football conference.

Meanwhile, the collapse of the Pac-12 moves college football ever closer to a “superconference” model. Under the predicted moves, the Big Ten will have 18 teams in 2024 while the SEC would have 16 and the Big 12 would have 15. Very quickly, the major footballing powers are being amalgamated into a handful of loaded conferences irrespective of geography. While there is still a chance that things could fall through, it appears that 2023 may be about to become the final season of the Pac-12.

Johnny Manziel Reveals He Nearly Took His Own Life After NFL Exit

Johnny Manziel was once considered the future of the NFL. The Heisman Trophy winner in 2012, Manziel was the second quarterback off the board in 2014, being drafted by the Browns 22nd overall. However, Manziel never lived up to the hype generated by his college career. He appeared in just 15 games over 2014 and 2015, starting eight. Mustering a 2-6 record across his eight starts, he threw for 1675 yards, throwing seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Manziel also had a string of off-field issues, including going to rehab during the 2015 offseason and being benched for partying during the 2015 season. These issues, plus his underwhelming on-field play, led the Browns to cut him ahead of the 2016 season. The team drafted Cody Kessler in the third round of that year’s draft. That led to a very dark period in Manziel’s life.

Manziel Contemplated Suicide

Next week, Netflix will release Untold: Johnny Football, the latest episode of their long-running Untold series. “I think I was just running from problems,” Manziel said of his suicide plans. “It was probably a $5 million bender. Direct self-sabotage, trying to burn this thing down.” Manziel had an elaborate plan to blow all his money and then end it all. “I had planned to do everything that I wanted to do at that point in my life. Spend as much money as I possibly could and then my plan was to take my life. Months prior, I went and bought a gun I knew I was going to use. I wanted to get as bad as humanly possible to where it made sense and it made it seem like an excuse and an out for me.”

Manziel is in a much better place now. Earlier this week, he announced that he was going to return to his alma mater of Texas A&M. There, he will open a new sports bar called “Johnny Manziel’s Money Bar” and will reportedly open in time for the start of the 2023 season. Untold: Johnny Football drops on August 8 on Netflix. It is the second episode of the third season.
