An old high school photo of BX rap phenom Ice Spice on her HS volleyball team has gone viral, making even more fans curious as to what her life was like prior to her “Munch” fame.

In a pic with her teammates from Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers shows Spice posing with her signature ginger hair, rocking number “4”. Spice wasn’t a slouch on the volleyball court either, earning herself a full scholarship to SUNY Purchase, but dropped the sport after a year in college.

Ice also considered becoming an actress as well as enrolling in beauty school before deciding that rap would be her calling. Ice’s high school volleyball photo arrived a week after her yearbook photo also popped up online.

Following 60 qualifier events held in 30 countries, the Red Bull BC One 2023 World Final will see country champions battling against the best in break to earn their spot in a final line-up of 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls. Breaking boasts a rich history being an integral element of hip-hop, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. As hip-hop continues to progress, breaking is experiencing its own evolution, becoming a globally recognized sport, and transcending its Bronx origins to reach audiences worldwide. Across generations, thriving break communities have pushed the competitive street dance to new heights, shaping how break looks today while nurturing the culture that underpins it.

Last year’s Red Bull BC One World Final took place in New York, honoring the origins of break and hip-hop, with B-Boy Victor (USA) and B-Girl India (Netherlands) beating out the competition and reigning supreme. Both historic wins, B-Boy Victor took the title for his second time and B-Girl India dethroned 2021 Red Bull BC One World Champion, Logistx, to become the youngest b-girl ever to hold the Red Bull BC One title. Red Bull BC One All Star and Red Bull BC One 2022 World Champion, B-Boy Victor, has built a career as one the best breakers on the international scene over nearly two decades. He shares, “Over the next year, it will be important – now more than ever – to uplift breakers and communities that have transformed
this artform into an official sport. While breaking has come a long way, we must honor the pioneers who started the craft.”

Screen Shot 2023 02 15 at 10.48.13 PM

Reports have confirmed that Houston rapper Yung Corleon has been sentenced to 27 years behind bats for his role in a sex trafficking ring that involved twelve women, including minors.

Corleon, whose real name is Aryion Jackson, plead guilty in a federal court to sex trafficking minors, forced fraud and coercion. Prosecutors allege that Corleon beat and drugged his “captives”, including a 15-year-old that is currently still missing. He ran his business from a Houston home, forcing the women to earn him $1K a day.

The cause behind the 24-year-old’s 27-year sentence has been a topic of controversy in Houston, as many locals pushed for the defendant to get life behind bars rather than the bare minimum for the alleged crimes.

Several news reports have confirmed that former Detroit Lions cornerback and son of former Bengals running back Stanley Wilson, Stanley Wilson Jr., passed away after collapsing at a mental health facility in Los Angeles County. He was 60 years old.

Wilson collapsed at the facility after being declared incompetent to stand trial for a vandalism charge and was transferred to Metropolitan State Hospital on February 1. During Wilson’s intake, he collapsed and died a short time later.

His cause of death has not been determined, but foul play is not suspected in Wilson’s death.

Wilson was selected by Detroit in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, where he played for three seasons until suffering a Achilles injury that ended his career. After his NFL career, Wilson was arrested several times, including being charged with attempted burglary in 2016, in which Wilson was shot in the abdomen while attempting to break into a house in Portland while completely nude.

His latest arrest came in August when he allegedly broke in and ransacked a Los Angeles residence and took a bath in an outside fountain.

Today In Hip Hop History: Big L Was Shot And Killed In Harlem 24 Years Ago

Big L

On February 15, 1999 the Hip Hop legend was murdered at 45 West 139th Street in Harlem after being shot nine times in the face and chest in a drive-by shooting. Gerard Woodley, one of Big L’s friends shot in the head near the same street in 2016, was arrested three months later but was shortly released. The shooting was said to have been retaliation for something Big L’s brother did. Unfortunately his murder case remains unsolved.

Big L began his career with the Hip Hop trio, Three the Hard Way. His first notable appearance came on Lord Finesse’s “Yes You May (Remix)”. He released his debut album, Lifestylez of da Poor & Dangerous, in 1995 and in 98′, he founded Flamboyant Entertainment, his own indie label, through which he released one of his most popular singles, “Ebonics”. His second studio album, The Big Picture, was put together by  his manager, Rich King, and released the year after his death. It went certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

A documentary is in the works titled Street Struck: The Big L Story. Big L is buried at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, New Jersey.

Rihanna Talks Motherhood And Hints At New Album This Year

Screen Shot 2023 02 15 at 2.07.18 PM

Fresh off her legendary performance at Apple Music’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, Rihanna sat down for a cover story with British Vogue, where she shared her life since motherhood, ASAP Rocky, and hinted at her comeback. British Vogue features new photos of Roro’s new family and more. The magazine posted on Twitter. A new era begins – and for @Rihanna nothing will ever be the same. Fresh from the Super Bowl and that very special announcement, Rihanna is British Vogue’s phenomenal March 2023 cover star – but this is no ordinary cover. This is a family portrait.

In her wide-ranging discussion with Giles Hattersley, Rihanna shed light on her forthcoming ninth studio album, revealing she wants it to drop this year. When it arrives, the project will be Riri’s first full-length offering since 2016’s Anti.

“Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year,” she shared. “But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”

Rihanna added, “And I need the right background music with the visuals. I can’t just go shoot a video to me talking.”

Rihanna opened up about motherhood and her life before having a child.

“Oh, my God, it’s legendary,” she said of being a mother. “It’s everything. You really don’t remember life before, that’s the craziest thing ever. You literally try to remember it – and there are photos of my life before – but the feeling, the desires, the things that you enjoy, everything, you just don’t identify with it because you don’t even allow yourself mentally to get that far, because it doesn’t matter.”

“Essentially, from one person I became two,” she continued, describing the experience of giving birth. “You walk into the hospital as a couple and leave as a family of three. It’s nuts. And oh, my gosh, those first days are insane. You don’t sleep. At all. Not even if you wanted to. We came home, cold turkey, had no one. It was just us as parents and our baby. Man, you’re a zombie for the most part.”

Tyler Perry Donates $750,000 To Save Seniors Homes From Rising Property Taxes

Screen Shot 2023 02 15 at 1.36.36 PM

TV/movie mogul Tyler Perry is donating $750,000  to help low-income seniors in Atlanta not be forced out of their homes by rising property taxes.

With more people moving near Tyler Perry Studios, land values are rising and property taxes are rising. It is said to be the main reason longtime residents living on a fixed income are forced out of their homes and their lives are disrupted.
Tyler, who came in at No. 3 on the Forbes list of the Top 10 highest-paid entertainers of 2022 — raking in $175M last year — recently reached out to Atlanta mayor Andre Dickens to help keep these residents in their homes.

Sources say Tyler’s money will also effectively freeze property taxes for 100 low-income seniors for 20 years. This money will pay the difference between current property taxes and property tax increases over the next 20 years.

In addition to Tyler’s $750,000 allotted for 2023, he is said to contribute about $500,000 each year for the next four years… totaling about $2.75 million. It will reportedly be handled by the Invest Atlanta Partnership, the nonprofit arm of the development agency.

Tyler is the only black male among Forbes’ top 10 highest-paid entertainers…and his priority is said to be giving back to the community that means so much to him. .

Always helping out senior citizens, thousands of grocery shoppers were surprised during senior hours in Atlanta and New Orleans when Perry picked up their tabs at Kroger stores in Atlanta and Winn-Dixie stores. He also  gave $21,000 in tips at an Atlanta restaurant.
