Recently, Erykah Badu had a nasty and checkmate-like response to DJ Akademiks’ rant about her. Moreover, the media personality and podcaster had sent a lot of shots at the neo-soul legend, years after she compared him to Jerry, the titular mouse of Tom and Jerry fame. With that history in mind, they both came through with a lot of disdain and jokes about each other. That being said, Ak was certainly more angry and indignant about the whole thing, whereas Badu just clapped back in simple but effective fashion. It’s one of the oddest beefs you’ll see all week, but also one of the funniest and most unique responses.

“Erykah Badu, let me tell you this: you keep my name out your mouth too,” DJ Akademiks said on stream. “Listen, that little Everyday Struggle s**t, that was another era, my n***a. I’m down to violate all you n***as these days. F**k what y’all got going on. You don’t mention my name, please. I don’t f**k with you neither. I never f***ed with Erykah Badu after she was tryna come on my show and be funny. B***h, I don’t f**k with you after that. N***a, wassup now? What we finna do? B***h, you a old-a** h*e, just keep getting f***ed by all these young n***as. How many rappers done ran through you?” he asked in relation to her previous relationships.

Furthermore, Akademiks was reacting to the news of Tory Lanez’s sentencing, and an Instagram user trolled him by asking Erykah Badu to “work her magic” against him. That’s exactly what she did in response on Wednesday (August 9), putting up another edition of her “Badu P***y” incense with Jerry the mouse on the box cover wearing a gold chain that says “Livinsgton” (Ak’s last name). “Badu Pussy Just went live ! Limited supply. http://baduworldmarket.com,” the 52-year-old captioned her post. “In honor of the biggest pussy in our culture, we’re introducing this limited edition premium incense — cause he deserves it!” the product description on the website states.

In fact, she sold out all incense boxes in just a few hours. “Y’all quick !!!” Badu expressed in another post. “Lol SOLD OUT 1000 boxes.” Previously, she addressed Ak’s rage in an Instagram video. “I learned something super valuable today. You have to really be careful what you think and what you say out here. I learned today that something I said five years ago in jest, when we all laughed, actually triggered someone’s really deep-rooted trauma. They kept it bottled up for a while and it hurt them so bad. DJ Akademiks is dissing one of music’s greatest legends, Erykah Badu. While live streaming on Rumble, a fan asked Badu to “work your magic” due to Ak’s support of Tory Lanez and the non-belief of Megan Thee Stallion throughout Lanez’s trial. That comment sent Ak into an attack on Badu.

“Erykah Badu, let me tell you this: you keep my name out your mouth too,” Ak said. “That little ‘Everyday Struggle’ shit was another era, my n-gga. I’m down to violate all you n-ggas these days. F-ck what y’all got going on. You don’t mention my name. I don’t fuck with you neither.

“I never fucked with Erykah Badu after she was tryna come on my show and be funny. Bitch, I don’t fuck with you after that. N-gga, wassup now? What we finna do? Bitch, you a old-ass hoe, just keep getting fucked by all these young n-ggas.”

He closed with, “How many rappers ran through you?”

Badu made money in her response. Posting an image of her Bady Pussy incense, with Jerry the mouse on the box. Jerry has on a chain that says “Livingston,” Ak’s government name. “In honor of the biggest pussy in our culture, we’re introducing this limited edition premium incense — cause he deserves it!” Badu wrote. All 1,000 boxes instantly sold out.

Akademiks’ name is running wild through the news cycle today (August 9) for a multitude of reasons. There’s the confirmation that Tory Lanez leaked information about his shooting trial with Megan Thee Stallion from a judge at sentencing yesterday. We’ve also seen his hateful comments about a number of women in the music industry. To the “Cash S**t” hitmaker, Ak urged her to hit him with a lawsuit. Elsewhere, he’s been throwing shade at Erykah Badu. Of course, she’s been known to cause her haters a great deal of karmic retribution in the past.

While streaming on Rumble, the Off the Record host came across a comment encouraging “The Healer” to “work [her] magic” on Akademiks after news of the Lanez leak went public. As HipHopDX notes, the embattled media personality was obviously triggered by the discourse. He quickly turned his attention to finding flaws in Badu. “I never f**ked with Erykah Badu after she was tryna come on my show and be funny,” Ak ranted after reminding us of the time she compared him to a Tom & Jerry character in 2017.

Moreover, the superstar’s associate Lizzo is currently being sued by three dancers. The lawsuit stems from allegations of sexual harassment, weight shaming, and a whole list of other offenses. Although Beyonce didn’t comment directly on either situation, it is very clear where she stands on all of this.

Erykah Badu Reflects On J. Dilla’s Greatness

Erykah Badu is currently on her “Unfollow Me” tour with rapper Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def). During her stop in San Diego, CA, she opened up about her musical relationship with the late J Dilla. Via Detroit rapper Frank Nitt’s Insta feed, she talked about the rap producer at length. “He didn’t really talk a lot,” Erykah said when a fan asked about what it was like to work with him. “He was very quiet… [Communicated] through the music, mostly.”

She also called J Dilla “super organized.” She referenced a detail that all of J Dilla’s Coca-Cola cans in his fridge were aligned so the logo was facing out. Dilla was an engineer through and through, and it showed. Erykah continues by saying he was generous and merciful. He taught people in the music industry, but Erykah Badu also says he would let others get away with stuff. “Like, he let a lot of people get away with, like, biting his sh*t,” Badu says. J Dilla died in 2006 from lupus complications. But his resolve impressed Erykah: “This is the most important thing; he was sick, but nobody knew. That speaks volumes.”

J Dilla was a tremendous hip-hop producer. His career, which started in the ’90s, included collaborating with A Tribe Called Quest and Common. Mama’s Gun, Badu’s second album from 2000, features the track “Didn’t Cha Know.” Dilla produced that track for his collective teammate, creating a solid friendship built around music.
