Earthgang Announces New Album “ROBOPHOBIA” Coming Later This Month

Earthgang have been busy recently. The Spillage Village members, Dreamville signees, and Atlanta natives have carved out a pretty recognizable niche for themselves within rap music. Last year, they released the viral single “Bobby Boucher” which got a cosign from Adam Sandler himself. That eventually landed on their RIP Human Art EP alongside fan favorite cuts like “Die Today” and “Flavors Of Karma.”

Some of the themes of technology and the way it intertwines with art expressed on that EP also seem to be coming through on the pair’s new album. The project is called ROBOPHOBIA and it’s due to arrive later this month. “Robophobia is a sonic dive into a new terrain for @EarthGang as we explore new soundscapes and topics on imperfections, connections and projections within humanity’s relationship with each other and AI,” the caption of the post explains. The album is arriving on February 23 and the pair are playing a show in Atlanta in advance of its release on February 17.

Earthgang’s New Album Drops Soon

While they haven’t dropped an official tracklist for the album yet there is one song fans are expecting to hear. Back in November they unleased the vibey “Blacklight” which is still the most recent new song they’ve dropped. It’s also the only single they’ve dropped since the release of their EP. It’s unclear if any of the tracks or singles from that EP will end up in the tracklist of ROBOPHOBIA.

Last year, Earthgang had a bit of a setback in releasing new music. The two were working on new material when they reportedly lost a backpack that had a hard drive full of music on it. It’s unclear whether they shared the info because it was the only copy they have of the music included on it, or they were worried about leaks. What do you think of Earthgang announcing their new album exploring the relationships between humans and AI? Let us know in the comment section below.

J.I.D. Recalls J. Cole Helping Him On “30 Freestyle”

Dreamville artist J.I.D. made a significant entrance into the new year with the release of his latest freestyle, “30 (Freestyle).” It’s a catchy song that definitely sets the tone for the rest of the year. In a recent interview on Angela Yee’s Way Up radio show on Thursday, January 11, J.I.D. shared insightful details about the creation of this track, shedding light on the profound influence of his label boss, J. Cole. The discussion revolved around J.I.D.’s deliberate choice to view the freestyle as a practice repetition. A technique inspired by none other than J. Cole himself. J.I.D. explained, “This was more of a practice repetition. I learned this from Cole.” It became apparent that this wasn’t just another song.

Moreover, it was a purposeful effort to refine his skills, a practice instilled in him through the wise guidance of J. Cole. J.I.D. further elaborated on Cole’s mentorship, emphasizing the importance of consistently striving to perfect one’s craft. “It’s like one of the things he told me [about] always tryna perfect your craft. So I learned this years ago,” J.I.D. shared, highlighting the enduring impact of the lessons absorbed under Cole’s guidance.

Moreover, the freestyle marked a departure from traditional songwriting approaches. J.I.D. explained the process, stating, “Just don’t stop, don’t think, just line for line. If you got the next line, just go into it and then pick from there.” This method of continuous flow, avoiding pauses or overthinking, created an environment where creativity could unfold organically. In the broader context of Dreamville’s collaborative ethos, this interview provides a rare glimpse into the mentor-mentee dynamic between J.I.D. and J. Cole. It transcends the typical label relationship, showcasing a profound artistic camaraderie and shared commitment to artistic growth.

As readers engage with the conversation, they gain a comprehensive understanding of the philosophy that shaped “30 (Freestyle).” J.I.D.’s dedication to constant improvement, coupled with the guidance of a mentor like J. Cole, exemplifies the synergy between skill development and artistic exploration. The intersection of these elements not only paints a vivid picture of the creative process but also reinforces Dreamville’s impact as a powerhouse shaping the trajectory of hip-hop.

Bas Makes A Clever Star Wars Reference On Infectious Banger “Black Jedi”

Bas was one of those artists who took a huge gap between his last album. Similar to Travis Scott, the Sudanese artist last dropped a project in 2018 with Milky Way. Just this past weekend he finally ended the drought by coming through with a 17-track offering. We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up partially touches on some topics that are usually avoided by most people. For example, “Khartoum” focuses on the issues going down in the Middle East which have taken tens of thousands of lives.

But, that is not all the tracklist focuses on. A lot of the record provides vibey songs to throw on for those nighttime drives or chill-outs. Bas incorporates a lot of African music like Afro-beat, Afro-pop, etc. But, he also brings more hard-hitting production on tracks like “Black Jedi.”

Listen To “Black Jedi” By Bas

This may be the most catchy song on the LP, especially with the extremely quotable hook. He rhymes “winds do” with “Mace Windu,” a reference to Samuel L. Jackson’s Jedi character in the earlier Star Wars movies. It is not a track for lyricism, but rather something to get hype to. Due to its solid melody and trap-inspired beat, it is sure to be the most agreeable and one the songs that winds up on a lot of playlists.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new song, “Black Jedi,” by Bas? Is this the best song from We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up? After having a few days with the album, is this the best body of work he has put out, why or why not? Is this Bas’ best banger, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Quotable Lyrics:

Said, “B****, I’m headstrong, that’s what the winds do” (Yeah)
Black jedi, Mace Windu
I set sail and I follow where the wind move
Go hard, I gave hell, they gotta give swim moves
And they got nothing on mine
Oh, my

Bas Might Have His Best Project With “We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up”

Bas is one of Dreamville’s best talents without a doubt, as he can bring a wide range of sounds to the table. The Sudanese talent has been hard at work over the past five years to perfect the approach to his fourth studio album, We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up. Nearly over the past year, he has been dropping singles for this effort. It began back in late January with “Diamonds,” and ended in November with “179 Deli.”

The title of this album aptly refers to the messages of some of the tracks here. He talks about the troubling times in the Middle East on “Khartoum.” “Ho Chi Minh” sees Bas talk about what has been weighing on him and how needs to remain strong within himself. Throughout this collection of songs, he brings the hottest sounds and artists from those genres.

One of the most heavily included is Afro-pop/Afro-beats. He brings on Zimbabwe’s own Sha Sha to “Testify.” Amaarae, who hails from Ghana, appears on “Decent.” J. Cole has two extra appearances outside of “Passport Bros.” He can be heard in his melodic bag on “Home Alone” and “Paper Cuts.” This album has a serene feeling to it, especially with the way Bas is orchestrating these songs. All in all, with the amount of versatility and themes, he might have put forth his best work here.

Nicki Minaj Announces Headlining Set At J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival

Over the weekend, Nicki Minaj released her highly-anticipated new album Pink Friday 2. The project marked her first new studio album in 5 years and the sequel to one of her most beloved projects from over a decade ago. Unsurprisingly, the album is a massive undertaking. She delivers 22 tracks which span 80 minutes of material and contain numerous high-profile features. Lil Wayne, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, and Future appear on the album among others. One artist who makes an appearance is J. Cole. He lends a guest verse to the song “Let Me Calm Down” on the first half of the album.

But the pair’s collaboration goes beyond just the song itself. Earlier today Nicki Minaj officially announced the Pink Friday 2 World Tour. The tour will take off in March of next year and run until June while hitting numerous North American and European cities. She also promised that even more dates would be announced in the future. Two of the dates on her tour are for festivals including her headlining spot at Rolling Loud which was already announced. But she confirmed her appearance at a second festival just a few weeks later whose lineup hasn’t been released yet. Check out her full tour announcement below.

Nicki Minaj Confirms Dreamville Appearance

On April 7th of next year, Nicki Minaj will play the newest edition of J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival. The fest has been a staple of the legendary rapper’s label for years and often features many of Dreamville’s own artists alongside some of the biggest and best voices in hip-hop. The full roster for the festival’s 2024 edition hasn’t been released yet but when it is, Nicki will be included.

The breakout track from Pink Friday 2 so far seems to be “Everybody” with Lil Uzi Vert. North West already professed herself as a fan of the track when she shared a video of her dancing to it. Billboard put it at number one on their ranking of every song on the album. That prompted Nicki to explain that the track was originally written in just 5 minutes for her collab with Call Of Duty.
