Lil Wayne Helps Launch OVO x NFL Campaign

Drake’s OVO tapped Lil Wayne as the face of the clothing brand’s new NFL collection.

The Canadian brand shared the first look at the OVO x NFL collection, starring Lil Wayne prior to SBLVII. Weezy dons a letterman jacket inspired by his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers. The jacket is decorated with the team’s logo and the OVO emblem. There’s also another photo that includes a Packers-inspired take on the traditional OVO hoodie. The hoodie includes the NFL logo on one arm and the National Football Conference’s symbol on the other.

The OVO/NFL collection will launch later this week on Friday, Feb. 3rd. With the Super Bowl around the corner, items will undoubtedly sell out quickly.

Aside from his recent campaign for OVO, Lil Wayne announced that he’s hitting the road this spring. The rapper shared the dates for the upcoming Welcome To Tha Carter tour, which will bring the Young Money head honcho to 28 cities. The tour kicks off on April 4th in Minneapolis, MN, before he heads to cities like Chicago, Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Philly.

The tour announcement, of course, fuels speculation surrounding new music. Weezy announced Tha Carter VI during OVO Fest last year before a pre-sale link went live days later. However, he hasn’t provided any extensive updates surrounding the project.

He and DJ Drama also hinted at the release of Dedication 7 in previous years, though neither shared a concrete update recently.

For now, we could atleast hope that Lil Wayne has a new single or two in the cut ahead of his upcoming tour.

Drake Shares Review Of Lil Yachty’s “Let’s Start Here”

Drake has nothing but praise for Lil Yachty’s experimental album.

On Friday, Lil Yachty unveiled his latest body of work, Let’s Start Here. Though it warranted different reactions, it’s arguably one of Yachty’s best projects to date.

Drizzy, who attended Yachty’s album release party in New Jersey, shared his review of the album. The Her Loss rapper took to Instagram where he labeled the album a “masterpiece” at 11/10.

Whether or not you agree with Drake, Yachty’s undoubtedly showcased his range with Let’s Start Here. In fact, Drake isn’t the only reputable artist who publicly expressed their approval for Yachty’s new album. Questlove shared a lengthy review on Instagram on Monday where he praised Let’s Start Here.

“How should I put it? I really really really really love this @lilyachty record and I love when artists pull off a good departure record,” he wrote. “This aptly titled #LetsStartHere lp might be the most surprising transition of any music career I’ve witnessed in a min, especially under the umbrella of hip hop.”

During his listening party, Yachty detailed the factors that contributed to his decision to think outside of hip-hop on his next studio album.

“I think I created this just because I really wanted to be taken serious as an artist. Not just some Soundcloud rapper, not just some mumble rapper, not some guy that made one hit. You know, I wanted to be taken serious because music is like everything to me. I respect all walks of music. Not just rap and hip-hop but everything,” Lil Yachty said. “If we gon’ be honest, there’s just a lot of n***as started copying the swag. And I felt like, cool, well, if everyone can do this then that’s fine but I’m going to show you what y’all can’t do.”

Fans Are Using AI To Make Drake Rap About Stolen Wallets And Pirate Turtles

Remember a few years ago, when NFTs were all the rage?

Yeah, I don’t know why I brought that up. Anyway, everybody seems to be really into “AI” right now — or at least, algorithms that imitate artificial intelligence (ChatGPT ain’t passing a Turing test anytime soon) — and that’s led to some quirky, fun apps like the aforementioned ChatGPT and a new Drake song generator.

Drayk.it lets users type in a song concept — or randomly generate one — and out pops a reasonable facsimile of a one-minute Drake song, which is performed by a Drake bot.

Obviously, there’s a lot of fun to be had with getting Drake to sing about something other than his broken heart, and fans are stretching that idea to its absolute limits. Suggestions have so far included a lost wallet (A Tribe Called Quest did it first/better), Drake’s Shabbos reading list, and a song about a turtle pirate(???).

And sure, this is all in good fun, but whenever Drake gets around to pulling a Rick Astley and suing the pants off the app’s creators, this sort of thing will probably see a lot of legal scrutiny within the next few years. This is kind of a far cry from that Views cover art generator. This is actual likeness and art, which will need to be protected.

The genie’s out of the bottle now, and I can think of at least three ways this could be used for nefarious ends, and while Drake isn’t much of a sympathetic figure, there are hundreds of other recording artists out there who could be harmed by this. For now, we’ll enjoy making Drake rap about Warrior Nun or whatever, but the dominoes are already falling.

Drake Comes up on $2.27 Million Betting on Kansas City Chiefs

drake

When you’re Drake, $1.1 million might seem like chump change. To the regular person, betting a million dollars on a football game might seem like a huge risk… one that many may not be able even to partake in.

Luckily for Drizzy, the Kansas City Chiefs came out on top in the AFC title game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Last night, the Chiefs and Bengals were tied 20 to 20 as the clock was dwindling in the fourth quarter – when Joseph Ossain of the Bengals was hit with a penalty that resulted in a field goal win for the Chiefs.

But most importantly, the win broke the “Drake curse,” who, in past instances, seemingly always bets on the team who ends up losing. Some teams even say they’re more prone to lose when he bets on them.

The evening before the big game, the Toronto superstar posted a screenshot to the Instagram story of his high-stake bet on the Chiefs to take the trophy home over the Bengals. He writes, “Big Sunday let’s buy mama something nice.” The wager? $1.1 million.

It looks like Drake’s mama, Sandi Graham, is all smiles, with Drake receiving an end payout of over $2.27 million. Of course, Drake is best known for his undeniable hit records and Platinum-selling projects. But this win proves he might also have a chance at sports betting.

Some past bets he’s failed on include the Duke Blue Devils winning over North Carolina Tar Heels in the Final Four, FC Barcelona over Real Madrid, Israel Adesanya over Alex Pereira in the UFC middleweight title fight, and even the World Cup, where he met $1 million on Argentina. While they ended up winning, Drake sadly lost all his cash in two minutes since his bet was in the 1×2 market, which doesn’t cover the extra time.

On a positive note, Drake did take home $1.4 million after betting the Rams would win in the Super Bowl versus the Bengals last February.

We’ll be on standby to see if he places his money on this year’s Super Bowl!

An NBA All-Star Described Drake’s Basketball Skills As ‘Just Old-Man YMCA Game’

Drake’s love for sports is well-documented. The Canadian musician has even formed close-knit friendships with some players. The rap superstar is often photographed courtside at some of his favorite basketball teams’ games. He’s given commentary during showdowns or even been the center of the commentary due to his fashion choices. He’s even found himself in a couple of social media spats while defending his hometown team, the Toronto Raptors.

When the entertainer isn’t on the road or working, he runs his own league, Sanctuary Basketball League (SBL). In contrast to rapper J. Cole, the OVO Sound boss’ likelihood of playing at the professional level is highly unlikely due in part to recurring ankle injuries. However, professional basketball player Fred VanVleet believes Drake could never make it in the league because of his lack of skill.

During the shooting guard’s appearance in a video segment from Canadian sports network Sportsnet, when asked about his opinion on rappers with a passion for the game, VanVleet replied, “[J. Cole] can play a little bit. You know what I mean? Not professionally, obviously. Drake is just old-man YMCA game. He just doesn’t move like a basketball player.”

Ironically, as much public support Drake shows the Toronto Raptors, it much hurt to hear their star guard doesn’t have faith in your game.

Usually, the self-proclaimed 6 God is quick to clap back. However, the rapper is still running off a high after celebrating his son Adonis’ 5th birthday.

Meanwhile, other players chimed in, too, like Scottie Barnes, who said of Cole, “He’s actually one of the artists that really knows how to play basketball.”

Ice Spice Says Drake Let Her Know “BackOutsideBoyz” Line Was Not About Her

Ice Spice Says Drake Let Her Know "BackOutsideBoyz" Line Was Not About Her

Ice Spice is digging a little deeper into her relationship with Drake. After saying they were good, Ice Spice revealed that the perceived diss on “BackOutsideBoyz” was not about her at all.

Appearing on Ebro in the Morning, Ice Spice provided a formal update to the “She a ten tryna rap, it’s good on mute, yeah” line.

“He didn’t, we spoke about it,” Ice Spice said. “He said that was not about me.

“We just linked up for when my shit dropped, he was in the city for his shows or whatever. And we ended up just linking up, and we was chatting.”

Speaking with The New York Times earlier this year, Ice Spice revealed the two are “cool.”

“We spoke after that a couple times and we’re good,” she added. There’s no beef.”

The two first connected after the “Munch” single blew up, leading to a trip to OVO Fest for Ice Spice to hang with Drake.

You can hear her talk about the issue during a visit to Hot 97 below.

Drake Joins Lil Wayne & 2 Chainz On Stage At Club LIV For DJ Stevie J’s Birthday

Club LIV is still the place to be in Miami on Sunday nights. This week, Lil Wayne, Drake and 2 Chainz hit the stage for DJ Stevie J’s birthday and delivered some bangers.

Drake, Lil Wayne, and 2 Chainz appeared on stage together at the famous Miami club this week. Chainz and Weezy largely handled performance duties while Drizzy stood on the side and rapped along. However, Drake later gave the fans an impromptu performance of a few records.

Wayne, who hosted the event, breezed through records like “Steady Mobbin” and “A Milli,” while 2 Chainz performed songs like “Watch Out.”

Clearly, it was a high for Drizzy, who revealed his big NFC Championship win on Stake moments before. The rapper bet on the Philadelphia Eagles, who won 31-7 against San Francisco 49ers.

Eventually, the Canadian rapper grabbed the microphone and blessed fans with a slew of anthems. The brief performance included “The Motto” and Her Loss intro, “Rich Flex.

The brief performance from Drizzy comes a week after he took the stage at Harlem’s Apollo Theater. The back-to-back concerts found Drizzy going through his catalog to bless fans with a rare show while also teasing what he has in store for 2023. He brought out Lil Uzi Vert and Dipset, as well as 21 Savage, who will join Drizzy on the It’s All A Blur tour this summer.

As for Wayne and 2 Chainz, the two hinted at the release of Collegrove 2 last year. Perhaps, we’ll see that project come out at some point this year.

Drake & Adonis Link Up With Sandi & Dennis Graham

When Drake first found out about his son with former adult actress Sophie Brussaux, he immediately denied paternity. However, after taking a DNA test, the Canadian artist that he certainly is a father of one. Ever since, he and Adonis have been almost inseparable, having formed a special bond over basketball in particular.

Usually, the father-son duo is seen sitting courtside at Toronto Raptors games. His exuberant energy is evident, even just from the paparazzi photos captured at the event, but Drizzy seems to be loving every minute of parenting him.

This weekend, it appears they had a party to attend together. Of course, the 36-year-old made sure he and Adonis were looking their best in matching outfits. Aside from the dapper suits, he also had their hair braided back in similar styles.

A photo posted to @theshaderoom sees Drake and his 5-year-old posing for the camera together. While the little one flashes a double peace sign, his grandparents – Dennis and Sandi Graham – stand behind him smiling. It seems as though the blonde-haired boy will take after his father in terms of height, as he’s already nearly the same size as his grandmother.

Elsewhere on the blogs, a video of Champagne Papi chatting with his family at the event is making rounds. As Adonis leans on his chest, Sandi’s face appears in the corner of the screen. The group seems to wish another woman in the room a happy birthday before going back to their own antics.

Drake appears to refer to his mother as his “twin,” earning a big smile from the family matriarch for the camera. Afterward, her grandson sticks his tongue out and eagerly dances as the 6ix God laughs.

It was obviously time to get together with the family this weekend, but prior to that, Drake spent much of January preparing for his legendary two-night run at the Apollo Theatre. The Canadian was joined by an impressive slew of guests, including The Diplomats, who declared him their “official fifth member.”

Read more about that here, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.
