YNW Melly Murder Retrial Pushed Back Until 2025 After Numerous Other Delays

YNW Melly’s retrial for double murder is officially too complicated to address this year thanks to a new ruling from the Florida judge in this case. Moreover, according to NBC Miami, Judge Martin Fein revealed in a court hearing on Monday (July 8) that he rescheduled the retrial’s start date to September 10, 2025 following multiple other delays in the process. Back in January, authorities placed the trial on hold indefinitely, and the rapper had a pre-trial meeting in his witness tampering case set for December 5 of this year. Of course, folks are likely aware of the double murder case in 2023, whose result in a mistrial led us to where we are now.

Furthermore, jury selection for this retrial began back in October of 2023, and motions and appeals prolonged the process. Then, Judge John Murphy paused the case given prosecutors’ appeal of his ruling on a motion to suppress evidence, since the legal team wanted to use a documentary on YNW Melly as key evidence in the retrial. “While this short video focuses on Defendant’s life, it is mere speculation to guess who decided to add the text statement,” his defense team posited. “It could have been the director, the producer, an editor, [Melly] or any number of people. Thus, without knowing the source of the comment, it holds no evidentiary value.”

YNW Melly’s Retrial Date Is Set

Judge Murphy upheld the defense’s point of view, and the prosecution’s appeal halted discovery developments on both sides of the courtroom. In addition, this joined other disagreements between prosecutors and defense attorneys, such as YNW Melly’s wish to exclude YNW Bortlen and his girlfriend’s phone calls from the retrial. Still, there isn’t much else we know about what will actually come up in this retrial. Perhaps the near future will contain more updates as each side builds their arguments.

The Broward State Attorneys Office really screwed this case up,” YNW Melly’s attorney claimed on social media. “I have never seen anything like it. […] A real circus over this case and mishandled from the 1st day when I was in the case. Bad investigation and even a worse trial. To think that the Broward State Attorneys Office would mishandle an important double murder case because of ego… unbelievable.”

Drake Missouri Concert Crash: Alleged Killer Bails Out

Drake is an artist who tries to keep the audiences at his show feeling as positive as possible. On recent tours, he’s been kind enough to give out luxurious designer bags, cash prizes, and even vehicles to random patrons, or people who come to his shows to celebrate after battling cancer. Despite his best efforts, there’s a lot that remaisn outside of the Canadian’s control, including reckless drivers outside the venue. Following his performance in Missouri earlier this month, a mother-daughter duo lost their lives after 22-year-old Monte Henderson sped through a red light.

According to WPDE, the young man was released from jail last Friday (February 23). At the time, he posted $20K, or 10% of his $200K bail, court records obtained by the outlet reveal. Henderson was arrested on two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter charges and two counts of armed criminal action. His victims were 42-year-old Laticha “Lety” Bracero and her daughter, 21-year-old Alyssa Cordova. The women were visiting from Chicago to see Drake in downtown St. Louis on Valentine’s Day when they lost their lives while crossing the street.

“Data retrieved from the Jeep Grand Cherokee indicated that the vehicle was traveling at speeds in excess of 70 mph prior to violating the red traffic signal,” court records notes. “Based on the foregoing and the serious nature of the charges, I believe that the defendant is not likely to appear voluntarily on a summons and is a danger to the community,” one officer wrote.

As the loved ones left behind by Bracero and Cordova continue to grieve their unexpected loss, Drake is likely feeling more grateful than ever for his mother, Sandra Graham’s presence in his life. Ending the most romantic month of the year on a mushy note, he shared a “forever core memory” of the blonde beauty with us on Instagram today. Overall, the YNW Melly case has been one of the biggest in hip-hop over the last few years. The artist has been incarcerated for about half of a decade at this point. However, he only had his first double murder trial this past summer. It was a highly contentious trial that ended in a divided jury. This subsequently led to a mistrial, and now, Melly has to go through the process all over again. It is not an ideal situation, and fans are very confused and concerned as to when it will end.

In fact, his new trial was supposed to start around now. However, the judge in the case has opted to start it up again on February 5th. This is a situation that is not advantageous for Melly at all. Overall, his family is concerned about his well-being, and many feel that the delays have been absurd. That said, it seems like the artist is trying to keep a positive outlook on everything. Recently, he took to Instagram with a message for his supporters.

YNW Melly Jurors May Remain Anonymous In Retrial

There have been plenty of crossovers between crime and hip-hop so far in 2023. Unfortunately for the rappers involved, most of the proceedings have been slow-moving. Of course, Young Thug is still waiting for jury selection in the YSL RICO trial to wrap up. Elsewhere, YNW Melly was shockingly granted a mistrial in the summer. He and his defense team are now busy preparing for the prosecution’s retrial regarding the double murder of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser.

The first time around, the jury’s identity wasn’t concealed. After Melly’s co-defendant, YNW Bortlen, was arrested on witness tampering charges earlier this month, however, a motion has been filed to keep the next round of jurors anonymous in order to protect them. As the Sun Sentinel reports, authorities uncovered “a notebook containing names and physical descriptions of the jury from [Melly’s] first trial.” In their request, prosecutors also noted that “There is evidence that suggests potential or seated jurors in the upcoming jury trial will be subjected to improper outside influences or harassment.”

YNW Melly Anxiously Awaits His Next Trial

As AllHipHop notes, selection for the Florida artist’s retrial was expected to begin on Monday (October 9). Ultimately, though, Judge John Murphy pushed things back to take a closer look at a request from the defense. Previously, they alleged that the prosecution withheld evidence in Melly’s first trial. They’re now asking for the case to be dismissed entirely, or for the Broward State Attorney’s Office to be removed. On Tuesday, a pre-trial hearing was postponed due to one of the “Murder On My Mind” hitmaker’s attorneys falling ill.

Even with the odds stacked against him, YNW Melly seems confident that he’ll once again be a free man when all is said and done. Earlier this month, the embattled artist wrote an open letter to his father, declaring that he sees himself winning his double murder trial in the end. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

YNW Melly Hit With A New Witness Tampering Charge

There’s finally another new development in the YNW Melly case. Last week, his co-defendant YNW Bortlen was scheduled to appear in court but his hearing was ultimately pushed back. Just a few days after that it was revealed that a witness tampering count was being added to his charges. Bortlen had been living free in Florida out on bail until he was arrested and his home was raided earlier this week. It’s unclear what specifically happened to cause Bortlen to be accused of witness tampering but he will likely remain in prison until his trial begins.

Now just a day later, YNW Melly is also being hit with a new witness tampering charge. Once again it isn’t clear exactly what happened to cause the charge to be made but it’s yet another hurdle Melly will have to cross when his trial begins next week. He’s expected to face his second trial for double murder starting October 9th. Melly has been in prison for 5 years at this point fighting for his freedom. His first trial ended in a declared mistrial earlier this year after the jury couldn’t come to a conclusive verdict. Check out the original reporting on the witness tampering charge below.

Fans in the comments seem to think that Melly’s chances of beating his case are in jeopardy now. “GGs my guy,” one of the top comments reads. “guess who’s going to jail tonight” another top comment reads referencing the notorious Kanye West song.

One person who still believes he can beat his case is YNW Melly himself. He recently wrote a letter to his father which ultimately made its way to Twitter. In the letter he expresses optimism that he will beat the case and come home soon. What do you think of YNW Melly being hit with an additional charge for witness tampering? Let us know in the comment section below.

YNW Melly Once Again Denied Bond As New Trial Date Approaches

YNW Melly hasn’t been home since 2019. That’s when the rapper was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. The charges spawned from the death of two of his friends back in 2017. The resulting legal proceedings have unwound very slowly with his actual trial not taking place until earlier this year. That trial ultimately ended with a mistrial declaration due to a hung jury. How split they actually were is still up for debate among fans. The prosecution quickly agreed to try Melly for a second time and a date was scheduled for October 7th.

Now according to No Jumper, Melly’s attempt to spend the time between now and the start of the trial at home has fallen short. After making his case for bond to be allowed to return home for the first time in 4 years, he was ultimately denied. That means he will remain in police custody for the next few weeks until his second trial begins. Many have taken issue with the police treatment of Melly. His stay in police custody has been extended to 4 years without being convicted of a crime. After the way the first trial unfolded it’s very much still up in the air what will happen in Melly’s second double murder trial.

YNW Melly Denied Bond Again

There may have been a contributing factor to Melly’s bond eventually being denied. The mother of one of the two victims in the shooting Melly is accused of asked the judge personally to deny his bond. “I don’t think he should be granted a bond at all,” she stated in court.

Since the first mistrial was declared some pretty interesting information has come out. Melly’s ex-girlfriend claimed that police threatened to arrest her in order to get her to give up information on Melly during the investigation. What do you think of YNW Melly being denied bond yet again? Let us know in the comment section below.

YNW Melly Returns To Court To Seek Bail For Double Murder Trial

The newest developments in the highly publicized trial of YNW Melly are underway. The rapper has been in police custody since 2019 for a double murder charge dating all the way back to the 2017 death of two of his friends. While he has already sat through one trial, Melly isn’t out of the woods yet by any means. His first trial took place earlier this year and ultimately ended when the judge declared it a mistrial. The prosecution made their intent clear right away to re-prosecute the rapper and a new trial is expected to get underway later this year.

In the meantime, Melly is hoping to spend his time at home between the two trials. According to All HipHop, the rapper is expected in court today to argue for a chance to be released on bond until the next trial begins. It’s unclear just how long he would be able to spend at home as his next trial isn’t that far away. Subsequently jury selection for the retrial is expected to commence on October 9.

YNW Melly Trying To Get Released On Bail

The first trial was declared a mistrial as the jury was hung. “I believe that he didn’t do it and it wasn’t proved in court. This was a really bad situation of being framed. Melly was a very good person. He always tried to help out people around him,” one of the jurors from the trial said publicly afterward.

The motion for Melly’s bond was officially filed almost a full month ago. If the court ultimately drags its feet in regard to his newest hearing, Melly’s time at home could be very short-lived. Many have called out that the rapper has been in police custody for years now without ever actually being convicted of a crime. What do you think of YNW Melly re-appearing in court to seek bond? Let us know in the comment section below.

YNW Melly Trial Hit With Delays Amid Illness In The Court

Many fans are currently tapped into the ongoing YNW Melly trial. Overall, this is a massive trial as it could determine the fate of Melly’s life. The prosecution is seeking the death penalty in the case, which means the stakes are higher than usual. Moreover, Melly is being accused of double murder, which is extremely serious. He has been in custody for almost five years at this point, and the trial has gotten very testy. The prosecution and defense have had their fair share of wins and losses, with some of the proceedings going viral online.

Throughout the last few weeks, the prosecution has been questioning witnesses on the stand. Overall, this includes a steady stream of detectives, family members, and friends. For the most part, these witnesses have been cooperative, although, on some occasions, that has not been the case. After a week off due to July 4th, the Melly trial is back this week. However, it is already being suspended until Monday. According to the Sun Sentinel, it is because Melly’s lawyer Raven Ramona Liberty got sick.

The highly publicized YNW Melly double murder trial has created a myriad of viral highlights, from the notebook and mugshot from his lawyer Raven Liberty to Melly blowing a kiss during the trial. The defense called Traveon Glass to the stand to ask him about the night that YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy were murdered. The derense asked Glass about his marijuana smoking habits and then questioned if whether or not he smoked before taking the stand. Glass replied, “No. I should have,” which drew laughter from the people in the courtroom and members of the jury.

Glass was also asked if he saw YNW Melly with a gun, which he denied. However, Glass admitted to seeing Melly wearing a change of clothes at Fredo Bang’s house later that night.

YNW Melly Trial: Rapper’s DNA Reportedly Not Found In Jeep The Night Of Shooting

YNW Melly is currently on trial for the alleged double murder of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. Of course, this incident took place all the way back in 2018. Since that time, Melly has actually been in jail and has awaited trial. Now, the trial is finally here and a lot is being brought to light. Although this trial has been confusing at times, new witnesses are coming in to try and paint a picture. Overall, yesterday was a productive day in court as we heard from forensics experts who surveyed the crime scene.

Perhaps the biggest revelation had to do with some of the DNA evidence, or lack there of. In the Instagram post below from Neighborhood Talk, it was reported that YNW Melly’s DNA could not be found in the jeep on the night of the alleged double murder. Moreover, he didn’t have any gun residue on his hands that night. However, it was revealed that they were able to find his DNA on the door handle to the car, although investigators only found this evidence a month ago.

Today in court, investigators are taking to the stand to discuss the trajectory of the bullets. Originally, Melly had claimed that Sakchaser and Juvy died in a drive-by. However, based on the testimony of forensics experts, it would appear as though the shots came from close range and within the vehicle itself. This reporting comes from Bryson “Boom” Paul, who has been live-tweeting from within the courtroom.

At this juncture, the trial still has a long way to go. From there, the jury will have to deliberate which will subsequently lead to a guilty or not-guilty ruling. If convicted, YNW Melly could face the death penalty, making this a particularly unique case. Stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world.
