Doja Cat Is Planning To Really Lean Into Rap For Her Next Album

Doja Cat is a rapper but her music and singing have an undeniable pop appeal to them, too. Now, though, Doja is saying that when it comes to her impending fourth album, she wants to put a strong focus on rap.

A new Elle profile reports Doja noted her upcoming album will be “predominantly rap” and Doja said of it, “I haven’t started just because of all the rehearsal and touring. I’ve got a lot going on, but it’s coming up. I have been getting songs and things sent to me… Oh f*ck, I wish I could tell people! There’s some really cool stuff that I got sent from friends. They’re all working on beats, and I’m giving them notes and they know what I want, so I’m excited.”

Elsewhere, she said, “I want to finish this tour up, kill it, and see my fans happy. And then I want to start writing again. I’m going to finish this next album, and then I’m going to get the f*ck out for a second. I want to disappear for a little bit and just do things like wear slides and go to the farmers market. I don’t give a sh*t about vegetables, but how fun! And I want a dog, too. It’s f*cked up that I don’t have a dog. It’s not fair. I want to take care of a dog. I want to raise it and run around in the grass and touch it.”

This interview was conducted before Doja’s recent announcement that she’s canceling her upcoming shows due to tonsil surgery, so perhaps Doja will get to making new music sooner than expected.

Eminem Teases ‘The King And I,’ His New Song For The Elvis Presley Biopic Soundtrack

Elvis, a new biopic about, yes, Elvis Presley is on the way soon, as it’s set to open on June 24. Ahead of then, though, Doja Cat has previewed the soundtrack with “Vegas,” the song she recorded for the movie that she dropped earlier this month. Now, we have the full scope of who else is involved with the soundtrack, as the list of musicians who recorded something for the movie was shared today.

Among that group is Eminem and CeeLo Green, who came together for a new song, “The King And I.” Right around when the list of participating artists was released, Eminem shared a 15-second clip of the film that offers a snippet of the song, which seems to be based on Presley’s iconic “Jailhouse Rock” riff.

Aside from Eminem and Green, the soundtrack also features “original songs and recordings” from Presley himself, along with the film’s star, Austin Butler. Beyond that, also involved are Ann Nesby, Alton Mason, Chris Isaak, Denzel Curry, Doja Cat, Gary Clark Jr., Jack White, Lenesha Randolph, Jazmine Sullivan, Kacey Musgraves, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Les Greene, Måneskin, Nardo Wick, Paravi, PNAU, Rufus Thomas, Shonka Dukureh, Stevie Nicks, Swae Lee and Diplo, Tame Impala, and Yola.

Doja Cat Has To Get Tonsil Surgery ‘ASAP,’ Which Will Impact Her Summer Plans

Doja Cat has kept exceptionally busy lately, but now it appears she will soon be forced to slow down. Over the past couple days, she has detailed some issues she has been facing with her tonsils, noting yesterday, “dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil. i had an abscess in it. my whole throat is f*cked so i might have some bad news for yall coming soon.”

Well, that bad news has come: This afternoon, Doja wrote on Twitter, “Hi guys. I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

A positive takeaway to be had from this is it appears it may prompt Doja to reconsider some of her less healthy habits: Yesterday, she noted of vaping, “nah im too scared to hit it cuz my throat hurts so bad. i cried for hours. its not worth it. then its like imagine all that wierd poisonous sh*t in the vape seeping into the completely open wound in my throat like f*ck that. im hella young.”

Azealia Banks Defends Cara Delevingne After The Billboard Music Awards: ‘That’s My Girl Thru And Thru’

The internet has been mad at Cara Delevingne, whose weird behavior at the Billboard Music Awards made headlines. This ranged from laying on the floor to take a picture of Doja Cat, DJ Khaled, and Fat Joe that ended up being a pretty low-quality photo, to playing with Megan Thee Stallion’s dress on the red carpet. Though Delevingne is practically known for her weird, eccentric presence, she was accused of fetishizing Black women.

In a surprising turn of events, Azealia Banks, after having a fan reach out and ask about the situation, came to Delevingne’s defense on Twitter.

She wrote, “Cara doesn’t have an obsession with with black women. It’s that upper crust English society full of fake white and jealous white hoes who were never as charismatic as she is that made fake friendships, tried sabotaging her every which way she moved and the intense jealousy. Of her older and extremely plain looking sister poppy that always made Cara feel sad and lonely. Poppy would always say mad back handed slick sh*t and tell Cara’s business to people in the industry and I always remember Cara literally traveling the world completely alone 4 years.”

She continued: “Lots of English society/media took advantage of that and there were plenty of times I would just hide Cara in my apartment for days at a time to make sure she got some deep sleep and some actual food and wasn’t just thrown out amongst the wolves like that. Everyone always wanted to use Cara for what they could get from her, and luckily for her – none of them got anything substantial. deep down I could tell she was (like me) so used to being told ur a bad person that she began to believe those things about her self and go out of her. Way to please people who saw her as an easy route to some fashion/British society clout… all of which they fumbled in the grand scheme of things. Cara and I just did normal stuff like dress up like mermaids, smoke spliffs and take naps. That’s my girl thru and thru.”

Doja Cat Warns That ‘Bad News’ Might Be Coming Soon After She Had Surgery On Her Tonsils

Earlier this year, The Weeknd announced the After Hours Til Dawn tour alongside Doja Cat. While The Weeknd is set to bring his most recent albums After Hours and Dawn FM to stadiums all across the country. As for Doja Cat, the tour, which kicks off in July, will allow her to bring Planet Her to more fans around the United States. While her Coachella set made fans even more excited for the tour, other instances like Doja announcing her retirement made some doubtful about it. Doja later clarified that she would not walk away without fulfilling her current obligations. Despite that, it seems like something else could interrupt her future plans.

On Thursday evening, Doja took to Twitter to share that she underwent a surgical procedure. “Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil,” she wrote. “I had an abscess in it. my whole throat is f*cked so i might have some bad news for yall coming soon.” The bad news could be tied to the upcoming tour which is set to begin in seven weeks, but Doja did not reveal what the procedure means for her future performances.

In additional tweets, Doja went into extreme detail about the procedure before sharing her plans to remove her tonsils “for sure very soon.” She also noted that she plans on “quitting the vape for a while,” which is definitely a good post-surgery decision. “Then its like imagine all that [weird] poisonous shit in the vape seeping into the completely open wound in my throat like fuck that,” she wrote in another tweet. “Im hella young.”

Doja went on about her struggle to stop vaping after a fan told her to “throw the vape away.” “I was literally staring at my vape today that normally i’d hit a thousand times a day and hit it two times instead,” she wrote. “I’ma try to go cold turkey for now but hopefully my brain doesn’t need it at all by then.” She later thanked fans for their support, adding, “Yall bout to make me cry with all the reassurance. i appreciate it. thanks for being supportive. i love you.”
