Doja Cat’s New Album Will Be Rap With Singing Hooks, She Confirms

Doja Cat has had a rocky few months online due to near-constant feuds with her fans. Just last month, she loudly denounced those calling themselves “Kittenz,” and reportedly began blocking those contacting her about their alleged abusive experiences with her new boyfriend, J. Cyrus. Even with all the drama, Doja still decided to share her “Paint The Town Red” single this past New Music Friday (August 4), which was surprisingly enough to land her back in the good graces of many.

The catchy song arrived alongside a devilish visual, which seemingly pokes fun at those who have been long suggesting that the “Say So” singer sold her soul in exchange for more fame. It’s often hard to tell exactly how serious Doja is being, but on Monday (August 7), we received what seems to be some trustworthy news on her upcoming album. “I was going to try to do something where the album was rap hooks with rap verses,” she explained, as per @BuzzingPop on Twitter.

Doja Cat Gives Another Update on DC4

“But I feel like it’s so useful to sing because there’s so much you can do with vocalizing, harmonies and melodies,” Doja continued. This is a similar approach she took to making her incredibly popular 2021 LP, Planet Her, so it won’t be surprising to see her fourth studio project find similar success. We have yet to receive an official release date from the genre-bending creative, and though she previously announced the title as Hellmouth, it seems she’s since changed her mind and will be reintroducing her work under a new name in the near future.

This new DC4 update from Doja Cat sounds uncharacteristically serious, but where the Californian is still letting her silly side shine through is with her latest “thirst trap.” Her concerning new photo caught the attention of Tyrese, along with thousands of others, who have since left comments sharing their worry under Doja’s less-than-flattering post. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Doja Cat Delivers New Single "Paint The Town Red"

Doja Cat delighted her fans by releasing her new single and music video, “Paint The Town Red,” under Kemosabe Records / RCA Records. The visually stunning music video, directed by Nina McNeely in collaboration with Doja Cat, was shot in vibrant Los Angeles, CA. The video revolves around three captivating paintings designed by Doja Cat, with each scene beautifully reimagining the artwork.

Last month, Doja Cat showcased her artistic talents as she painted the single’s artwork during an interactive Instagram Live session, engaging with her fans while giving them a sneak peek of the upcoming song.

“Paint The Town Red” marks Doja Cat’s first official single since announcing her highly anticipated North American headline tour, The Scarlet Tour, set to kick off this fall. The tour promises to be exciting, with special guests Ice Spice and Doechii joining her on stage.

Earlier, Doja Cat treated her audience to the scorching track and video “Attention,” which received widespread critical acclaim. She also graced the cover of V Magazine, further cementing her status as a global music sensation. With “Paint The Town Red,” Doja Cat continues to captivate her fans and solidify her place as a multifaceted artist and visionary in the music industry.

Doja Cat Takes Charge On Her Mission To ‘Paint The Town Red’ In Her Devilish New Video

Doja Cat is no stranger to controversy. Last month, her social media posts regarding her fans proved polarizing. But perhaps the ruffled feathers are something she lives for. On her new single, “Paint The Town Red,” Doja seemingly alludes to the emotional consequences of the superstardom she’s achieved in recent years.

Over a jazz-influenced, Dionne Warwick beat, Doja addresses everything — fame, opulence, and pop-star status.

“Yeah, b*tch, I said what I said / I’d rather be famous instead / I let all that get to my head / I don’t care, I paint the town red,” she raps on the song’s chorus.

Elsewhere on the song, she seemingly alludes to the incident in which she said she didn’t love her fans, rapping, “Fans ain’t dumb but extremists are / I’m a demon, Lord / Fall off what? I ain’t seen a horse.” However, the title “Paint The Town Red” first appeared on an alleged tracklist Doja shared back in April, so it’s likely the song was written and recorded a long time ago.

Perhaps her anti-fan tirade was part of the song’s promotional campaign?

Who knows? But this new era of Doja sounds promising. Whether she wants it to or not.

In the song’s accompanying video, she channels the devil she’s constantly made out to be, conquers demons — both internally and within the video’s universe — and lays down the law of the land.

Doja Cat Plans To Debut New Music Soon, During ‘The Victoria’s Secret World Tour’

So far, Doja Cat has shared “Attention” from her upcoming album, and now we know when further tastes of it are set to arrive (beyond “Paint The Town Red,” which is set to drop tonight): Doja plans to premiere new music during The Victoria’s Secret World Tour.

World Tour is part fashion show, part documentary, and it’s currently scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 26.

Of new music, Doja told Harper’s Bazaar, “I don’t want to spoil too much, but like past projects, there’s lots of different energy to songs, plus new sounds that I’ve never explored before. So that is exciting to me, and I can’t wait to put it out.”

Doja also said, “Victoria’s Secret has always been such a fun, go-to brand for me since early on, and I love that I can still say that today. Being a part of a global phenomenon like the Tour has been an incredible experience. My idea of what makes me beautiful, sexy, and confident has evolved so much over the years, but I’ve always known that what matters most is how I feel about myself. To me, sexy is being comfortable in my own skin and celebrating myself for who I am. Being a part of the Tour really helped connect me with that.”

Doja Cat Lost 250K Instagram Followers After Her Lengthy Rant Against Her Fans

The past weekend wasn’t a career highlight for Doja Cat. The “Attention” rapper, who is gearing up for an arena tour, as well as the release of her upcoming fourth studio album, recently made news about interactions with her fans.

Over the weekend, fans noted that Doja was blocking people who had criticized her relationship with Twitch streamer J Cyrus.

She later blasted her fans through since-deleted posts on Threads, telling them to “get a job” and voicing her disapproval for her stans identifying themselves as “kittenz.”

She further exacerbated things, saying “If you call yourself a ‘Kitten’ or f*cking ‘Kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

Later, a fan asked Doja if she still loves her fans, however, Doja’s answer was rather shocking.

“I don’t though,” Doja said, “cuz I don’t even know y’all.”

As a result of her tirade, several Doja Cat stan accounts ended up deactivating. Additionally, Doja has reportedly lost nearly 250,000 Instagram followers, Billboard reports.

Since this series of posts, Doja has not updated any of her social media channels. It also appears that her Threads account has been removed from the budding social media platform.
