Diplo Is ‘Not A Huge Fan’ Of Frank Ocean And Thinks Coachella ‘Might Be Having A Hard Time Booking Headliners’

Coachella continues to be the defining music festival of the year, but if you ask Diplo, when it comes to headliners, there’s something to be desired.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said:

“I think they honestly might be having a hard time booking headliners. There’s not much left. We kind of left the era of great superhero acts, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Daft Punk. Their [2006 Coachella set] was the most epic show. Now they book acts like Bad Bunny and Blackpink, who are cool, but they’re just the most Top 40 there is. It’s almost like they’re stadium acts.

[Coachella producers Goldenvoice] have a hard time, because I think there’s not a lot of really culturally relevant new acts. I saw Labrinth. That was amazing. I think that represents real Coachella. He’s part of the zeitgeist. But the rest of it just felt like they had to scramble to find things that were cultural touchstones, but also could bring a big crowd in.”

He then noted that he’s not big on Frank Ocean (but did say he “has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard”) and speculated that “he just doesn’t really care about shows”:

“I don’t think Frank Ocean’s concert needs to be the best or worst anything. It was a show where the ice rink didn’t work and that’s all it needs to be. I didn’t see his show, because I’m not a huge fan. It’s probably a generational thing. I think I was a little older when Frank Ocean came out. I was in my 30s. He has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard. I really think he just doesn’t really care about shows. I think that’s Coachella’s fault. He doesn’t really care about his fans, to give them a concert. I don’t think it matters. He’s just a musician. Some people just don’t care.”

Diplo, meanwhile, is heading into a weekend at Stagecoach, another Goldenvoice festival.

Diplo Admits To Receiving Oral Sex From A Man: “I’m Not Not Gay”

A celebrity’s sexual orientation interests their fans, and Diplo’s podcast reveal has pop culture talking. The famed producer and DJ’s relationship exploits have been at the center of gossip throughout his lengthy career. Yet, his recent admission has sparked conversations. Diplo hasn’t explicitly spoken about his sexual orientation, but on Emily Ratajkowski’s High Low podcast, the pair jumped into the topic.

Ratajkowski and Diplo directed the conversation to the producer’s preferences. He stated he wasn’t “aroused by men that much,” which piqued the podcast host’s interest. As any interviewer would do, she pressed him a bit, hoping he would expound on his comments. He quickly added, “I’m sure I’ve gotten a blowjob from a guy before.” Ratajkowski questioned if he was sure about that on speculating. It seemed as if Diplo couldn’t actually confirm the encounter.

There seem to be more than enough men at Diplo’s disposal, especially “sexy” ones that are easily found on his social media. Although he admits they’re “hot guys,” he added, “I don’t know if that’s gonna be the thing that’s gonna send me over to the gay side totally.” Expectedly, Ratajkowski wanted Diplo to explain further, particularly how he personally identifies himself, if he has any title, at all.

He said his attractions are more about “vibe” than “gender,” which doesn’t come as a surprise considering his past. “I think the best answer I have is I’m not not gay,” he answered. “There are a couple guys,” he then added, “I could date, life partner-wise.”

Everyone’s A “Lil Gay”

Meanwhile, Ratajkowski shared in her November 2022 Harper’s Bazaar feature that she’s bisexual. “I think sexuality is on a sliding scale,” she told the publication. “I don’t really believe in straight people.” A similar sentiment was shared by Diplo almost 10 years ago on Reddit. The musician said he believed everyone’s a “lil gay,” but wouldn’t go as far as labeling himself or his sexuality. It looks as if he carries similar sentiments to this day. Check out the clip of Diplo and Emily Ratajkowski’s conversation above, as well as the full episode of her podcast.

HARD Summer’s 2023 Lineup Includes Special Guests 21 Savage And Kid Cudi And A Brand-New Venue

One of the biggest festivals of the year is HARD, a long-running festival that began in 2007 to highlight alternative and electronic acts and has been running ever since. This year, though, it’s making some big changes, moving to a new venue in Los Angeles and continuing to expand its horizons, adding hip-hop acts such as 21 Savage and Kid Cudi as special guests after bringing in Megan Thee Stallion and Lil Uzi Vert last year.

HARD Summer 2023 returns to Los Angeles, the festival’s birthplace, for the first time in 10 years on August 5 and 6, leaving behind the San Bernardino NOS Event Center for the Exposition Park area near downtown, which includes both the Coliseum and BMO Stadium (formerly the Banc Of California Stadium).

And although there are some other rap names on this year’s lineup, including Fat Joe and Ludacris, HARD’s keeping things mostly the same, with headliners Kaskade and Skrillex joining a lineup that includes standouts such as Four Tet, Diplo, Black Coffee, Dillon Francis, Oliver Tree, and more. There also appear to be some surprise artists on the bill who will presumably be announced as the festival nears. And don’t discount the possibility that Drake, who collaborated with Black Coffee on last year’s Honestly, Nevermind, might show up too. Never forget who started EDM in the first place.

Diplo Clarified What He Really Said After Beyoncé’s Grammy Win

Beyoncé took home three awards from the 2023 Grammys last Sunday, February 5, bringing her career total to an all-time most 32. She won Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Plastic Off The Sofa”), Best Dance/Electronic Recording (“Break My Soul“) and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album (Renaissance). And many people feel strongly that she should have also won Album Of The Year, but that’s a discussion for a different article.

The Best Dance/Electronic Music Album victory broke the record, and because Beyoncé was nominated, the category was televised. On the CBS broadcast, Diplo was seen in the audience saying something after Renaissance was announced as the winner. Some fans speculated that he said, “They bought that.” He was also nominated in the category for his self-titled album.

Diplo set the record straight on Instagram this week. The final slide of the Instagram carousel is the same clip that’s been making the rounds online, except Diplo included a closed-captioning of “I’m glad to be a part of this.”

Diplo’s lengthy caption gushed over Beyoncé. Read it below.

“This is a post to honor the dance music community. Thank your for being my purpose in this life and shaping my career .. and much love to all the wonderful people that worked on my album 🧡.. Grammy night was great night for all of us. Dance music has and will be the most Inclusive music of our generation .. I have been in the industry for over 20 years releasing club music ..djing over 1000 different clubs and cities – u can find me everywhere, the slums of Rio, warehouses in North Philly where I started to the fanciest night clubs and yachts in st tropez, ibiza.. Our community has always been gay / straight, but icy , poor.. white black brown purple .. it’s the music that had united the world during my lifetime and i’m glad to just be one part of it🌎 you don’t need to be a savant or a great musician to be part of dance music u just have to love to move and have confidence.

“Tonight was the first time the dance / electronic category was televised and it was rightfully so.. between me, rufus beyoncé, odesza bonobo… was one of the strongest years for electronic music. Beyoncé album was legendary (i’m a beyonce a stan remember I produced some classic dance songs for her like ’til the end of time’ and ‘girls run the world.’ what’s important to understand was that her intention was 100%. she did the work found the real producers and she made classics .. so she deserves her flowers . and when she won i was just proud to see my nomination on the screen in the huge arena.. (swipe to the end to see what i said) but the best part was my friends and the other artists in the genre still out raving until sunrise somewhere in La : that’s what’s the music is really about 😎

During her acceptance speech, Beyoncé was visibly emotional and paid homage to “the queer community for your love and for inventing the genre.” Watch the historic moment above.

Amber Rose Offers To Eat Ass In Exchange For Super Bowl Tickets, Diplo & Russell Simmons Respond

One thing fans will surely always praise Amber Rose for is her authenticity. Over the years, the model has become a pro at being proud of her identity, speaking her truth, and – at times – stirring the pot on social media.

Previously, her antics have included throwing shade at the Kardashians and sharing salacious thirst traps. Now, she’s offering sexual services in exchange for coveted Super Bowl tickets.

Ahead of next month’s big game, the 39-year-old seems desperate to get her hands on a set. So down bad, in fact, that she’s publicly offering to perform anilingus on anyone who can help her own.

On Monday (January 30), Rose shared a text post on her Instagram feed, asking, “Yo, who’s ass I gotta eat to get tickets to the Super Bowl?” In the caption, she added, “Bitch I’ll have a busy eatin’ contest for them tickets #FlyEaglesFly.”

In the few hours since Rose shared her eyebrow-raising upload, a few potential suitors have come forward. Among them is Diplo, who simply left a hands up emoji in the comments, already earning upwards of 1,000 likes. The rap diva saw his comment and quickly wrote back, “Lmaoooo Diplo!!! [crying laughing emoji].”

Following him is 65-year-old Russell Simmons, who made it known that “[he] got tickets.” More recently, Vinny Guadagnino of Jersey Shore fame also expressed his interest in the offer. “I’m sure I can find some,” the reality star wrote.

Rose’s name has been in the headlines a lot as of late. This is namely due to her recent appearance on the Sofia with an F podcast, during which she had plenty to say about her love life – both past and present.

Madonna Tongued Jack Black, Re-Created An NSFW Photo With Lil Wayne, And More In A Wild New Tour Promo Video

Today, Madonna announced The Celebration Tour, a trek that will see Madonna playing hits from across her four-decade career. Madonna, ever the shock-friendly performer, unveiled the news with a wild new video featuring Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Diplo, Judd Apatow, Eric Andre, Amy Schumer, Bob The Drag Queen, Kate Berlant, Larry Owens, and Meg Stalter.

The five-minute clip features a truth-or-dare game between the celebrities as they sit around a table. Madonna kicks things off by daring Schumer to simulate how she would lick her husband’s butt, which she does by not doing it. Andre then dared Diplo to dip his balls in his margarita and drink it, and he obliged. Diplo then turned the tables back on Madonna, who he instructed to “tongue-kiss” Black, and indeed, she did just that.

There are some more shenanigans from there — including Madonna, Wayne, and Black posing for a racy photo — but the whole thing ends with one final dare, from Schumer to Madonna: to go on a world tour. Of course, given the purpose of the video, Madonna accepted.

In a statement, Madonna said of the upcoming trek, “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for.”

Check out the video above and find the tour dates here.

Madonna is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
