Bryson Tiller Claims DJ Khaled “Didn’t Really Care” About His Depression

It goes without saying that struggling with one’s mental health can make any task feel insurmountable, particularly for those who suffer from depression. Unfortunately, however, not everyone understands. During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, for example, Bryson Tiller recalled opening up to DJ Khaled about his battle with depression. According to him, the advice he received in return was less than effective.

Tiller explained how he was collaborating with DJ Khaled on his 2016 album Major Key when he made the confession. He had told Khaled that he wasn’t in an ideal headspace to take on the project. Instead of empathizing with him, however, he simply told Tiller to channel his pain into the music.

DJ Khaled Told Bryson Tiller To “Put It In The Music”

“If you go listen to the song that I did for Khaled’s Major Key album [‘Ima Be Alright’], I told him before we did it. He was like, ‘Yo, I need a song!’ This is when I’m like super buzzing,” Tiller described. “I was like, ‘I’ma just be honest with you, Khaled, I’m depressed right now. I got a lot going on: lawsuits, people threatening me back in my hometown, all types of stuff.’ He was like, ‘Nah, man, just put it in the music.’ Every time I listen to [‘Ima Be Alright’] I cringe so hard because I’m like, ‘Man, this is not who I am.’ He eventually ended up bringing me ‘Wild Thoughts.’”

Tiller added that while Khaled’s advice helped him a bit, it shouldn’t be everyone’s go-to. “He didn’t really care […] ‘Put it in music’ is not always the best thing. Don’t get me wrong, it works. I hate when I’m going through some sh*t and then I gotta go be [regular],” he said. What do you think of Bryson Tiller revealing that he once opened up to DJ Khaled about having depression? The entire stunt seemed like some sort of attempt at simulating suicide. Wave has sung about these topics in the past, however, fans felt like depicting the act in this way, was tasteless. “This is alarming! Not funny at all, especially when so many young people look up to this guy. Suicide is nothing to advertise as escaping from the hardships of the world!” one user wrote. “Promoting depression & jumping off a balcony is crazy but ok,” said another.

Needless to say, Rod Wave attempted to be provocative, and it isn’t exactly landing very well right now. Only time will tell whether or not he tries this move again. Let us know what you thought of the stunt, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Jeezy Speaks On Depression Journey, Says He Went Years Without Knowing He Had It

Jeezy has long been vocal about his mental health struggles, especially in the lead-up to the release of his new memoir, Adversity For Sale. Moreover, he recently appeared on The Tamron Hall Show on Monday (October 16) to speak on the book and his battle with depression. In fact, The Snowman recalled how he didn’t even know he was suffering from the condition for almost a decade. Eventually, he came to reckon with his state of mind, and it’s resulted in a lot of reflection. Most importantly, though, the rapper seems more prepared and committed than ever to help others along his journey, and become an example of its negative effects but also of every individual’s strength to overcome it.

“I learned that vulnerability is power,” Jeezy remarked on the television program. “I thought something was wrong with me. Thinking I come from poverty, this is just how it is. I didn’t understand trauma and all these different things. So when I started to get the words for it, I started to understand and grab tools, [and] I started to become better.

Jeezy Opens Up About Not Knowing He Had Depression For Years

“I started my journey and that’s why I’m expressing it and putting it in the book,” Jeezy continued. “Because I didn’t know I was depressed for like eight years of my life straight. You wake up and you just want to go back to sleep forever, you know? And I was leaning into my vices. And that’s what street life does to you. You know what I’m saying? When you lose 200, 300, 400 people like gone forever, you just get numb. And I wasn’t able to get in touch with my emotions and I was wondering why. Thank God for my kids, but there was a time I was just cold. That’s when I was Young Jeezy.”

Meanwhile, the Atlanta MC recalled a scary brush with suicidal thoughts during an interview with PEOPLE in August of this year. “I remember standing there and saying to myself, ‘Man, if you go back home and you don’t figure this out,’” he expressed. “Because I don’t want to end up like my friends. My friends became junkies and they were getting killed and all these things. ‘No, bro. You gonna have to man up. You gonna have to go back home, you got to figure this out.’” For more news and the latest updates on Jeezy, keep checking in with HNHH.

Cardi B Advises Chrisean Rock On Motherhood, Speaks On This Important Aspect

It’s always heartening to see mothers support each other on their journey, especially in the often toxic world of pop culture. Moreover, Cardi B recently offered some words of advice to new mom Chrisean Rock when TMZ caught up with her in New York City. During her remarks, the Bronx MC spoke on the importance of keeping yourself calm through alone time, even if those windows of solitude are small. Also, she spoke on postpartum depression, and advised the Baddies star to watch out for early signs of it. As an experienced mom of young kids herself, Bardi’s words as a celebrity mom ring with resonance.

Specifically, Cardi B told Chrisean Rock that these two aspects of alone time and sadness often go hand in hand. Even if the full-time mom schedule overwhelms you, she remarked, it’s crucial to take some time for yourself when you’re feeling down or particularly emotional. This can be hard enough when you’re famous; never mind being responsible for Chrisean Jr. (yes, that’s his name) around the clock. After the “Bongos” rapper looked out for Chrisean, she also spoke briefly on people hating on her and Megan Thee Stallion’s latest single.

Cardi B Reaches Out To Fellow Mom Chrisean Rock

Unfortunately for Chrisean Rock, it’s hard to separate these worlds of fame and family, as she became so viral because of the combination of the two. Her public and volatile relationship with Blueface, the child’s father, may be no more, but they’ve fought a lot over their son’s care, their bond, and everything else under the sun. However, that seemed to get much better recently when the California rapper actually stood by Chrisean’s parenting in a series of recent tweets. Sure, things could still flip around- and probably will- but at least we know that the respect is there.

“I trust Chrisean with my son,” he stated. “That’s it, nobody else. She’s actually very nurturing [and] caring, good with kids no doubt. [She’s] just a lil impatient [and] the baby NEEDS patience. Can’t just get up [and] go, ‘No more I’m being patient as hell.’ You don’t think I wanna get up [and] go rn? Timing not right.” For more news on Chrisean Rock and Cardi B, log back into HNHH.

Tyrese Says Psych Meds Caused 2017 Breakdown & Claims Of $5Mil Will Smith Gift

There was a season of Tyrese’s public life when people were concerned about his mental health. The multihyphenate entertainer took to the internet with an outrageous claim back in 2017, and he’s clarifying what was going on for him at the time. During that season, Tyrese and his ex-wife Norma Mitchell were engaged in a bitter custody battle. The singer appeared online in a tearful video that has gone down in viral history. He lamented over his daughter and elsewhere, Tyrese claimed Will Smith gave him $5 million to help him with the legal fees involved in his custody dispute.

At the time, Tyrese wrote: “My wife kept the news away from me ’cause I’ve been on with lawyers all day, but our family and our sister Jada Pinkett-Smith and my brother Will Smith just sent us 5 million dollars to help keep us afloat. The Smiths and their whole family has always shown up for The Gibson’s. Uncle Will you’re an uncle for real.” However, soon Smith’s team would emerge with a denial. They insisted the Oscar winner didn’t loan the Fast & Furious star any money.

Tyrese Claims Depression Meds Were The Culprit

In their 2017 reaction to Tyrese’s claims, the Smiths further admitted they were longtime friends of the actor. There were also rumors that the couple was concerned he was in the midst of “some sort of breakdown,” and in a recent appearance on Sway’s Universe, Tyrese addressed the controversy. He says it was the depression medications he was prescribed that made him act that way.

“Will Smith is gonna give me $5 million? I never even talked to Will Smith. I was out of my mind,” he stated. After losing custody of his daughter with Mitchell, Tyrese was prescribed Rexulti. Insider reported the medication could cause sudden changes in moods and uncontrollable impulses.

Back On Track

Tyrese and his ex are now on better terms, and he regularly sees their daughter. “I travel, and I move all the time. I’m used to being away from my baby. But to take my baby away for 100 days? Oh, I was f*cking miserable,” Tyrese admitted to Sway. “So, then the psychiatrist says, ‘Here’s some psych meds that’ll help stabilize your mood, because you barely sleep, you’re stressed the f*ck out, and your firstborn was taken away from you.’”

“You put some sh*t like Rexulti in my system, it’s going to have the worst adverse effects ever,” he added. “I’m online talking about Will Smith giving me $5 million. I never talked to Will Smith and I still haven’t recovered from the damage that I did to him and his family. They didn’t deserve them phone calls.”

50 Cent Says Depression Is “A Luxury”

50 Cent says he feels that “depression is a luxury.” The New York rapper shared the questionable opinion during a recent interview with Big Boy’s Neighborhood.

50 explained: “I think the things you go through make you who you are. And in my journey, there’s certain things that I don’t even let into my system like that. Like, I think depression is a luxury. Because where I’m from, you can’t afford to be depressed.”

“You gotta pay the bills, right? So you gotta go to work,” he continued. “You gotta get up, gotta go do what you gotta do. You got people right now that’s at work that don’t feel like being there. But they got responsibilities so they feel uncomfortable while they’re working, while they’re doing what they gotta do.”

He concluded: “When these guys get in a slump and they just decide they’re not gonna do anything – I’m like, where they do that at?”

50’s career took off in 2003 after the release of his iconic album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. He also discussed the success of that project and admitted that he wishes it were his G-Unit partner Tony Yayo who blew up. He explained that this would’ve allowed him to focus on the business side of the group.

Elsewhere in the interview, 50 also revealed that he’s working with producer Dr. Dre on a new album. He’s hinted at wanting to release new music in 2023 on several occasions in recent weeks.

50 has also said that he plans on working with Eminem on a TV adaptation of 8 Mile.
