Tina Knowles Fires Back At Dolly Parton After Beyonce’s CMAs Snub

Earlier this month, Beyonce sparked a major debate after she wasn’t nominated for a single Country Music Award. Considering the success of her new album Cowboy Carter, many fans believed she’d be a shoo-in, and were outraged by the apparent snub. Dolly Parton, a superstar of the genre who appears on an interlude track on Beyonce’s aforementioned LP, later fueled this outrage during an interview with Variety.

“Well, you never know. There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that,” she told the outlet. “It was a wonderful album. She can be very, very proud of, and I think everybody in country music welcomed her and thought that, that was good.”

“I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album,” Parton also added. Her response didn’t sit well with many, however, including Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles. She fired back on Instagram earlier today, making it clear she doesn’t agree.

“Oh Ms. Dolly,” she began. “We love you, but Bey did spend her WHOLE life workin’ hard, since she was 9! She got country roots too. She’s mastered her craft and broken records in EVERY genre. Of course, lists like this one are bound to get readers to weigh in with their own personal takes. This list in particular, however, has earned the outlet a great deal of backlash.

Topping the list is Playboi Carti, whose reception tends to be mixed. While some commenters think this choice makes sense considering his influence and fanbase, others think he’s ranked far too high. Next up is Doja Cat, whose position doesn’t appear to be too widely protested. No. 3 is one of the most controversial choices yet, however, as the outlet went with Central Cee.

From there, it goes Megan Thee Stallion, Yeat, Latto, GloRilla, Lil Yachty, and so on. Needless to say, commenters are sounding off about the list in NFR Podcast‘s replies, making it clear that they’re not rocking with it. “#1 being carti makes sense considering he’s running the game rn while barely dropping rest of this list is insane to say the least lmao,” one X user writes. “Throw the whole damn list away,” another says. This is far from the first time Complex has received backlash for one of their lists, however.

With the 59th game being in New Orleans, Louisiana for now the eleventh time (third this century), fans of Weezy are furious and want answers as to why he was “robbed” once again. In fact, even other artists in hip-hop are hoping that Kendrick Lamar will do everyone a favor and bring out Lil Wayne. However, there are still quite a lot of big names backing the kid from Compton, especially the man who was responsible for selecting him.

“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” Jay-Z said. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come”. Overall, Hov makes a lot of great points, and with the year that he’s having and the potential for a new album coming soon, it was a pretty safe and reasonable pick. However, this is not going to stop the Wayne supporters from dubbing this as a massive injustice.

Instead, its gotten her tons of backlash from fans of Lamar. “The Kendrick hate is hilarious dawg. Nevertheless, thanks to the latest episode of the New Rory & Mal podcast, hip-hop Twitter got a new debate topic to spend an hour or two within: is Future a better rapper than Meek Mill? The titular co-hosts and their colleagues went over a few metrics to determine this, as both MCs display wildly different styles. But they also have enough collaborative history to make this a fitting and appropriate comparison.

For example, Rory suggested that while Meek Mill is probably the better rapper, Future’s music surpasses Meek’s. “You think Future raps better than Meek?” Mal asked one of his co-hosts. “If you put a beat on right now and these n***as start rapping right here, you think Future’s gon’ out-rap Meek? We watched Meek with matted braids on the corners of Philly rap his way to a f***ing private jet. Future don’t rap better than that n***a, man. Not on no f***ing day of the year. Future? Earlier this week, Alicia Keys took to social media to question what DJs “actually do.” Unsurprisingly, this has since earned her a great deal of backlash. Of course, many are arguing that DJs play a major role in giving artists like her exposure, meaning she should already know the answer to her own question. DJ R-Tistic even hopped online to call her out, alleging that he was not paid for playing her song on Instagram Live. “All I know is her label offered me a few hundred to play her song, and then never paid me after I played it,” he wrote on X.

He went on to elaborate in The Jasmine Brand‘s comments section on Instagram, claiming that her label was behind it. “It was her label at the time, RCA. Via professional e-mail. Someone from their team offered to pay me to play a remix of one of her songs while I live streamed on IG, second week of the pandemic, when we were locked inside. I played it, and the label rep went ghost on the followup,” he alleged.

He went on to respond to those insisting he should have demanded payment upfront, insisting it was not an option. DJ R-Tistic isn’t the only one to call Alicia Keys out for her remarks, however. The Joe Budden Podcast Credits Dipset With Putting Lil Wayne On, But Some Fans Disagree

As usual, The Joe Budden Podcast came through with a spicy take recently that got hip-hop fans into a strong debate. Moreover, the cohosts seemed to refer to how some Southern scenes, including Atlanta and others, only got popular due to New York co-signing them and letting them in on the fun. They brought up a couple of examples, such as Jeezy and Fabolous, but the most controversial point was that Dipset (also known as The Diplomats) were the ones who broke Lil Wayne into the rap game. However, Budden was quick to note that he has all the respect in the world for Atlanta, and seemed to acknowledge that this commentary is something that fans could easily mischaracterize.

Well, he wasn’t wrong… Or perhaps more accurately, folks still disagreed with the core of his and his cohosts’ actual argument. Debate quickly ensued in the replies, and went in all sorts of directions. But this is a sentiment that even Dipset themselves, namely its member Jim Jones, would definitely agree with. He claimed that Lil Wayne took inspiration from The Diplomats’ style after spending a summer with them.

But even though this debate around how Lil Wayne became a superstar brings regional debates into the fold, the core of his Cash Money family still rides behind him. “I been with him, that’s my dude,” Juvenile said while calling Weezy the best rapper of all time during his Breakfast Club interview alongside Mannie Fresh. “I saw the whole process of him, just seeing the whole development of Wayne and where he’s at right now.” It would be interesting to hear Tunechi’s take on all this, considering that he would definitely show love to both groups for very different reasons. According to the Special Olympics, the R-word is a form of hate speech, which can be extremely offensive to those with intellectual disabilities or their loved ones. Social media users are now weighing in on GloRilla’s use of the word on X, revealing whether or not they believe it’s acceptable. While most agree that it’s not, others argue that it’s not a big deal, as long as it’s not used to describe someone who actually has an intellectual disability.

He claimed that Breezy beats MJ when it comes to production, songwriting, singing, dancing, and more. The bold take left viewers outraged, and insisting that it’s not even close.

His comments even sparked a reaction from Brown, who took to his Instagram Story yesterday to share a clip from an old interview. In it, he shares his thoughts on being compared to MJ, stating that there’s simply no competition. He added that he’s a huge fan of the late hitmaker, and doesn’t at all believe he’s better than him.

Kanye West’s Official Version Of “LIFESTYLE” Sparks Debate On Whether Or Not The Demo Is Better

It appears that all Kanye West is doing with VULTURES 2 is making fans angry. To be honest, it’s completely fair criticism. After waiting on the sequel to the inaugural VULTURES 1 for months, the album still sounds extremely unfinished. It especially doesn’t help that a lot of the songs were known about for years thanks to the leak community and DONDA 2. Of course, there are a few ride-or-die supporters of Ye trying to defend the project. Ultimately, though, the amount of disappointment far outweighs the love being shown to this debatably even worse LP. Some predicted this would happen, but some were still holding out hope for Kanye West because of songs like “LIFESTYLE”.

Hip-hop Twitter (now X) is having quite the field day picking VULTURES 2 to pieces. “LIFESTYLE” is one of the handful of songs that Kanye West had hype around thanks to a demo that had been floating around the internet. However, when you listen to each version side-by-side, you can see why fans are confused and upset. Instead of having Ty Dolla $ign sing the chorus –who the better singing voice — Ye instead takes the reins, and it sounds like a non-artist singing in the shower. Additionally, the instrumental is mixed much better, which is another big gripe that people have with VULTURES 2.
