Dave Chappelle’s New Netflix Special Drops On New Year’s Eve

Dave Chappelle is returning to Netflix at the end of December with a brand-new comedy special. The unnamed special is Chappelle’s first on the platform since 2021’s incredibly controversial The Closer. That special, which hinged heavily on jokes about the LGBTQ+ community, garnered widespread criticism and even led to an employee walkout at Netflix. However, Netflix stood by the comedian and continued their deal with Chappelle. This upcoming special will be Chappelle’s seventh for the platform. His partnership with Netflix dates back to 2017, when he dropped four specials in a single year.

The new special, which drops on New Year’s Eve, was promoted with a brief trailer that used Morgan Freeman to announce that “Dave is back”. There’s no word on what sort of material that Chappelle will be covering. However, he’s never been one to shy away from controversial topics. Expect a lot of outrage once the full show drops in a few weeks time. Will you be watching Chappelle’s new show? Let us know in the comments.

Dave Chappelle’s Israel-Palestine Comments Cause Walkout

Meanwhile, Chappelle saw several audience members walk out of his show in Boston in October after he decided to speak on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. No footage of the set is online, as Chappelle confiscated the audience’s phones before he began. While Chappelle condemned the initial Hamas attack on Israel, he said that students in the US shouldn’t be losing job offers for supporting Palestine. Several Ivy League students have reported experiencing such consequences for publicly supporting Palestine.

However, Chappelle doubled down, stating that the Israeli response to the Hamas attack has been disproportionate and going as far as to accuse Israel of war crimes. Not stopping there, Chappelle also accused the US of aiding and abetting the Israeli atrocities thanks to their full-throated support fo the nation. The comments led several audience members to leave the show early, according to sources who spoke with TMZ.

Fans Walk Out of Dave Chappelle Show Over Israel Comments

The Israel/Hamas conflict in Palestine has been a very touchy subject across the globe, but that was not the case this past week in Boston for comedian Dave Chappelle.

The famed funnyman waited until the end of his set to address the bloody conflict in the Middle East, jokingly saying that students that have publicly supported the Palestinian people shouldn’t be losing out on job offers. Chappelle didn’t mention the October 7 attack by Hamas on the Israeli people, but accused Israel of war crimes via their bombing while accusing the U.S. of helping Israel kill “innocent civilians.”

Some fans scoffed at his comments, while others chanted, “Free Palestine!”, prompting some of the attendees to walk out of the almost complete, cell phone free set.

As fighting enters its third week, the death toll is set to exceed 6000, with a vast majority of the reported deaths being Palestinians. While some aid relief has been allowed into the Gaza Strip, Israel maintains an iron fist around the occupied enclave. Furthermore, fingers continue to be pointed over the destruction of a Gazan hospital this week. Israeli sources initially claimed credit for the attack. However, tweets were edited and statements amended to blame a failed Hamas rocket attack. Independent investigations are inconclusive at this time. However, early indications suggest that the munitions used to destroy the hospital came from Israel and not Gaza

Meanwhile, the violence has begun to spread outside of the Middle East. A six-year-old Palestinian boy was murdered by his landlord in Chicago. The self-proclaimed MAGA supporter reportedly forced entry into the apartment and stabbed the boy to death. Elsewhere, a synagogue president in Detroit was found stabbed to death outside her home. Police have not yet established a motive for the murder.

Travis Scott Led A Wildly Off-Key Rendition Of ‘Happy Birthday’ For Dave Chappelle At Madison Square Garden

Dave Chappelle turns 50 today, August 24, and he’s accomplished pretty much everything over the past five decades. Travis Scott is helping him add to the list. Scott’s Utopia track “Parasail” featuring Chappelle and Yung Lean debuted at No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated August 12 — Chappelle’s first-career Hot 100 entry — and now, Chappelle is on the shortlist of people for whom Scott has sung “Happy Birthday” at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

According to The New York Post, Chappelle’s standup comedy tour stop at MSG on Tuesday, August 22, doubled as a birthday party.

Chappelle “shared the stage with surprise guests Travis Scott and Burna [Boy] who dropped in to perform surprise sets and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the self-proclaimed GOAT,” the publication relayed, additionally noting that Jeff Ross, Shane Gillis, George Wallace, Aziz Ansari, and Donnell Rawlings were on hand to open for Chappelle.

Complex circulated a video of Burna, Chappelle, and Scott relaxing backstage. Fox News executive producer Sabrina Wolman also posted about the event on X (formerly known as Twitter), listing the special guests and sharing video proof that Scott led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to Chappelle.

Per Vivid Seats, Chappelle will return to Madison Square Garden for shows on Friday, August 25, and Saturday, August 26. See all of his dates here.

Meanwhile, tickets still haven’t gone on sale for Scott’s Utopia – Circus Maximus Tour.

“The tour has now shifted their timeline and tickets will NOT go on sale this week,” The Detroit News reported on August 8. “More information to come once we have new details.”

While welcoming West to the stage, Scott labeled him the greatest of all time. “There is no ‘Utopia’ without Kanye West, there is no Travis Scott without Kanye West,” Scott said. “There is no Rome without Kanye West. Make some noise for Ye.” On stage, the two performed Kanye’s songs, “Praise God” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” The full setlist for the show included “Hyaena,” “Thank God,” “Modern Jam,” “Aye,” “Sirens,” “Praise God (with Kanye West),” “Can’t Tell Me Nothing (with Kanye West),” “My Eyes,” “Butterfly Effect,” “Highest in the Room,” “Delresto (Echoes),” “Lost Forever,” “Mafia,” “I Know ?,” “No Bystanders,” “Fe!n,” and “Topia Twins.”

Dave Chappelle Just Landed On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart For The First Time Thanks To Travis Scott

Dave Chappelle has had some overlap with the music industry: Chappelle’s Show often had musical guests, Chappelle has won a few Grammys in his day, and now, he has made his debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The comedian is featured on “Parasail” from Travis Scott’s new album Utopia, and the song just debuted at No. 53 on the chart. (Yung Lean is also on the track, which is his Hot 100 debut, too.)

Rob49 also just made his first Hot 100 appearance thanks to his feature alongside 21 Savage on “Topia Twins,” which debuts at No. 17. Westside Gunn also just had his Hot 100 debut via Scott’s “Lost Forever,” which enters the chart at No. 46.

If it seems like a lot of Scott songs are on the Hot 100 this week, that’s because all 19 tracks from Utopia debuted on the chart. Two of them are in the top 5: “Meltdown” with Drake at No. 3 and “Fe!n” with Playboi Carti at No. 5. Just outside the top 10 is “I Know?” at No. 11.

With that in mind, this next piece of news probably isn’t surprising: Utopia debuted at No. 1 on the new Billboard 200 chart with 496,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States, which was enough to beat Post Malone’s Austin.

Dave Chappelle Course To Be Offered At Concordia University

Concordia University will be offering a course on Dave Chappelle next semester. Professor Yassin “Narcy” Alsalman appeared on the Jibber With Jaber podcast, earlier this week, to discuss what students can expect from the course. In previous years, Narcy has taught classes on Kanye West and other hip-hop artists.

“I’m writing my syllabus right now and from what Dave and the community around him gave me I’m gonna kind of celebrate that at the 50th anniversary of hip-hop as a community,” Narcy told Ahman Jaber, host of the podcast.

Narcy continued: “So we’re gonna go through The Chappelle Show, we’re gonna watch some of his specials […], I’m gonna do a Black Star class, I’m gonna do a The Roots class, I’m gonna do an Erykah Badu class, a Soulquarians class, and talk about just the juxtaposition of the responsibility of comedy in music, and then the consumption of Black performance and what does that mean in North America […]”

He added that he plans to invite various friends from the industry and possibly even Chappelle himself. “I’m gonna ask people from the community, the friends of mine that I made in that community, to possibly come and maybe we’ll get Dave. Maybe Dave will come maybe he won’t but that’s not really why I’m doing it,” Narcy added.
