Why Does Beyoncé’s Alternate ‘Cowboy Carter’ Cover Say ‘Beyincé?’

Beyoncé is less than ten days away from releasing her new country-inspired album titled Cowboy Carter. After revealing the cover art of it yesterday, she has now released an alternate version. Unlike the original where she rocks a sash reading the album’s name, the one in this new photo says “act ii / Beyincé” on it.

Although it might be a blink-and-you-miss-it detail, internet users have been wondering why she changed it to an “i” instead of the “o” in her name.

Here’s why it says that.

Why Does Beyoncé’s Alternate Cowboy Carter Cover Say ‘Beyincé?’

For those who might not have known, Beyoncé was named after her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson‘s real last name.

“A lot of people don’t know that Beyoncé is my last name. It’s my maiden name,” Tina previously told People Magazine. “My name was Celestine Beyoncé, which at that time was not a cool thing to have that weird name. I wanted my name to be Linda Smith because those were the cool names.”

However, Tina’s mother and siblings spelled their last name with an “i” to make it Beyincé because there was an error with the birth certificates. When Beyoncé’s grandmother (aka Tina’s mom) tried to correct Tina’s, she was told she should just be lucky because Black people didn’t previously receive certificates.

“It’s interesting — and it shows you the times — because we asked my mother when I was grown. I was like, ‘Why is my brother’s name spelled B-E-Y-I-N-C-E? You know, it’s all these different spellings,’” Tina added. “And my mom’s reply to me was like, ‘That’s what they put on your birth certificate.’ ”

We are just days away from Beyoncé‘s highly anticipated eighth album, Cowboy Carter. The album is said to have much country influence, and as we can see, she has been fully embracing her Texas roots this era. In the days leading up to the album, the Beyhive is abuzz, theorizing about the album’s collaborations and sound. Earlier this week, Bey teased some collaborations via Instagram, and even shared what seems to be a snippet from the album via her story. Following this clip, fans believe she may have collaborated with another fellow Texan.

Is Travis Scott Featured On Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter?

Though the sound she teased sounds more hip-hop-influenced, as opposed to country, it accompanied a pre-order link for Cowboy Carter. So it’s likely the song appears on the album.

Fans recognized what sounded like vocals and hums from Travis Scott, with whom, Bey previously collaborated on the Utopia track, “Delresto.” Though, it hasn’t been officially confirmed if Scott will have a full verse on the song, or simply contributing to the song’s background vocals and production.

After all, Bey is known not to stick to one genre. In her Instagram post revealing the cover, she did, in fact, say “This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”

Cowboy Carter is out 3/29 via Parkwood. Find more information here.

Beyonce & Travis Scott Collab Makes The Rounds On Twitter Leading To Questions About Her Country Music Aspirations

Beyonce is one of the biggest stars in the entire world. Overall, her music empire is massive and fans have loved her various evolutions over the years. Her foray into house music back in 2022 with Renaissance was a huge success. Songs like “Break My Soul” and “America Has A Problem” were instant classics. However, the artist is now ready to deliver another incredible switch-up with act ii: COWBOY CARTER. This album delves into country music and is certainly going to be polarizing, no matter what.

We already got songs like “Texas Hold ’em” and “16 Carriages” which were considered to be huge successes. Now, however, it seems like fans are going to have to wait until March 29th to get the full album. Well, thankfully, the Travis Scott fan account @tervisscoot on Twitter provided fans with a brief snippet of an upcoming song. Based on the source, you can probably guess that the song features Travis Scott. He can be heard doing his signature ad-libs at the start of the song, although there isn’t much else to go off of. What is interesting to note, is that the song doesn’t sound particularly country.

The reactions to this new snippet were pretty hit or miss. While some enjoyed the last time these two linked up, “DELRESTO,” others aren’t so sure this is a good fit. In the tweets below, you can see some questions about whether or not this will even be a country album. After all, Travis doesn’t exactly scream “country.” At this stage, fans will just have to play the waiting game if they want to make a thorough judgment on the music.

“COWBOY CARTER” Cover: Beyonce’s American Flag Usage Has Music Lovers Debating

Many members of the Hive still listen to Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE as if it only dropped yesterday. We’ve long known that the mother of three planned to expand her Grammy Award-winning LP into a three-project venture, and since she showed up to this year’s ceremony to support her husband in country garb, it didn’t take long for people to realize that she’ll be diving into the traditionally Southern genre on Act II. Earlier this week, Bey confirmed that this month’s release will be titled COWBOY CARTER and that it’s been in the works for over five years now.

On the cover, the Houston native sits upon a galloping white horse, her platinum blonde hair blowing in the wind. In many of the RENAISSANCE visuals we saw Bey serving body, but for this photo, she was nearly covered from head to toe in a red, white, and blue Western ensemble while holding the American flag in one hand. The patriotism in particular is a sign of contention for some, while others feel that the “Telephone” singer is using it to make a statement.

“I feel like everyone is taking the messaging of the imagery wrong because [of] the flag” one Twitter/X user expressed. “The letter that accompanied the photo was basically about reclaiming spaces where you ‘did not feel welcomed.’ Connect the dots.” Another wrote, “The symbolism here holds a double entendre. Reclaim space as an American, and in doing so, propping Americana up while we all witness US-backed genocides. It’s a miss. This cover would have been more appropriate when Obama was President, like in 2012, before Trump’s campaign tbh.”

One person who obviously doesn’t have Beyonce’s back as she attempts to make her mark on the country music industry is Azealia Banks. Earlier this week the New Yorker penned yet another of her scathing social media rants aimed at the Houston native and her husband, Jay-Z, suggesting that Bey’s “White woman cosplay” isn’t as endearing as she might think. Read everything Banks had to say at the link below and check back later for more music/pop culture news updates.

Jay-Z & Beyonce Under Fire For “COWBOY CARTER” Rollout, Azealia Banks Shares Lengthy Rant

It’s no secret that power couple Jay-Z and Beyonce aren’t one of Azealia Banks’ favourite duos. Now that the latter is gearing up to unveil Act II of her RENAISSANCE album series, the “212” hitmaker is making it known that she’s not supporting Bey exploring genres outside her usual repertoire. “Wow, we didn’t even try to put even a little effort into a more artistic title?” Banks asked on her Instagram Story. “Sis, I live for Whiteyonce Donatella Bianca Bardot DOWN, but I’m kind of ashamed at how [you] switch from Baobab trees and Black Parade to this literal pick me stuff.”

The New Yorker then called the “Halo” artist out for previously supporting the embattled Dixie Chicks, “who would never do the same for [her].” According to Banks, Bey too often shares her “platform with White women who are so jealous of [her] but have such a long history of sabotaging other Black women’s careers.” In particular, the infamous social media troll is taking issue with the “White woman cosplay” we’ve seen the Houston native in lately, such as her platinum blonde hair and themed outfits.

Azealia Banks Shares Her Thoughts on Act II

As for Beyonce’s husband, Banks had a message for him too. “Ugh, I’m so saddened by Jay-Z and his over strategizing everything [Bey does] to the point where it’s clearly his influence and not the real Bianca Bardot… Someone tell Jay-Z his strategies are corny and Beyonce has better ideas… We would like to see her outside without him and his pound puppy dreadlocks breathing all over herrrrrrr.”

If you’re still curious to know more about Beyonce’s COWBOY CARTER, even after Azealia Banks’ loud hate train, the mother of three gave us a few interesting details via IG earlier this week. She didn’t unveil her list of collaborators yet, but Bey did promise that she has upcoming songs with fellow artists who have earned her deepest respects. Read all about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Did The 2016 CMA Awards Inspire Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter?’

We’re now less than two weeks away from Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. While fans wait for the project to drop, they have a new question to ponder:

Did The 2016 CMA Awards Inspire Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter?

When Beyoncé revealed the Cowboy Carter album cover art on March 19, it was accompanied by a lengthy post telling some of the story behind the project. She wrote that the album was “born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed,” an experience that prompted her to educate herself more about the history of country music. A common fan theory is that Beyoncé is referring to the 2016 CMA Awards, where she and the Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) performed “Daddy Lessons” together.

Read Beyoncé’s message in full below.

“Today marks the 10-day countdown until the release of act ii. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the supporters of TEXAS HOLD ‘EM and 16 CARRIAGES. I feel honored to be the first Black woman with the number one single on the Hot Country Songs chart. That would not have happened without the outpouring of support from each and every one of you. My hope is that years from now, the mention of an artist’s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.

This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t. But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.

The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me. act ii is a result of challenging myself, and taking my time to bend and blend genres together to create this body of work.

I have a few surprises on the album, and have collaborated with some brilliant artists who I deeply respect. I hope that you can hear my heart and soul, and all the love and passion that I poured into every detail and every sound.

I focused on this album as a continuation of RENAISSANCE…I hope this music is an experience, creating another journey where you can close your eyes, start from the beginning and never stop.

This ain’t a Country album. This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album. This is act ii COWBOY CARTER, and I am proud to share it with y’all!”

Beyoncé’s Majestic ‘Cowboy Carter’ Album Cover Art Brings The Rodeo To ‘Renaissance’

Beyoncé’s anticipated new album Cowboy Carter is coming right up, with a release set for March 29. Beyoncé has amped up the hype even more by sharing the glorious album cover art today (March 19).

The image sees Beyoncé sitting sideways atop a white horse. Beyoncé faces the camera, decked out in a red, white, and blue outfit, complete with a “Cowboy Carter” sash, a white cowboy hat, and flowing white hair that matches the horse’s mane. Bey is also holding the reigns in one hand and an American flag in the other, completing the patriotic, Western look.

On Instagram, Beyoncé also shared a lengthy caption alongside the image. The post addresses “Texas Hold ‘Em” going No. 1 on the country chart, Beyoncé’s self-education about country music, criticisms she has faced, and even teased some “surprises.” It reads in full:

“Today marks the 10-day countdown until the release of act ii. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of the supporters of TEXAS HOLD ‘EM and 16 CARRIAGES. Will Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Album Have A ‘Jolene’ Cover?

Beyoncé obsessives have been frantically searching for any information they can find on the star’s new album Cowboy Carter. From fan theories about the title to demands for country radio to put her single “Texas Hold ‘Em” into rotation, the BeyHive has gone into overdrive to support the queen in recent weeks. All that searching has led many of them to a tracklist that appears to have come from her website which seems to confirm that Beyoncé really did cover Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” for the album.

Unfortunately for those fans, that tracklist is a phony. For reference, you can check it out below, and compare it to Beyoncé’s actual website:

So, does this mean Beyoncé’s album won’t have a “Jolene” cover as rumored? Well, it’s hard to say. According to Dolly herself, Beyoncé apparently did record a cover of her biggest hit, and if such a cover were to be released anywhere, Beyoncé’s upcoming country album would be as good a place as any. However, Dolly also acknowledged a reality of the recording industry: not every song recorded makes the album. Just look at Prince’s expansive vault of unreleased tracks.

Besides, Beyoncé’s whole thing with this current run of albums is reclaiming the history of Black influence on country music. Not to demean the illustrious Ms. Parton but well… she’s not exactly a Dahomey warrior, y’know? Anyway, we’ll find out at some point whether the rumor is true or not. Cowboy Carter is due on March 29 via Parkwood and Columbia.

Here’s A Possible Explanation Behind Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ Album Title

beyonce

Earlier this week, Beyoncé revealed the name of her upcoming country album, Cowboy Carter. While the title may reflect both the album’s country music leanings and Beyoncé’s married name (courtesy of Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter), fans who did a little digging unearthed another potential meaning behind the phrase.

This information comes by way of a TikTok creator’s deep dive, so take it with a grain of salt as stan social media is rife with conspiracy theories and “explanations” about our favorite artists that often come to nothing. But according to this creator, there could be a deep meaning associated with the phrase “Cowboy Carter.”

One of the earliest country music acts to rise to stardom was The Carter Family from Virginia. Their recordings, made from 1927 to 1956, were among the first to become commercially successful and also influenced country, bluegrass, folk, and more for decades to come.

The group’s patriarch, A.P. Carter, traveled around southwestern Virginia to find new songs after the success of their first recordings in 1930. He befriended a Black guitar player from Tennessee named Lesley “Esley” Riddle, who composed a number of the group’s songs, and his guitar technique was adopted by Maybelle Carter. That technique eventually became known as “the Carter scratch,” which is about how things work in America — if you know, you know.

Now, if this all sounds like a stretch, that’s probably because it is, but that also doesn’t mean it can’t be a little bit true. Ultimately, this fan theory is based in a belief that Beyoncé’s upcoming album will be an attempt on her part to reclaim the history of Black musicians’ influence on country music, the way Renaissance did for electronic dance music originally pioneered by Black, queer DJs in warehouse raves across urban America.

While Beyoncé might not have been thinking specifically about Esley Riddle when she named “Act II” Cowboy Carter, she certainly was thinking of a rich history that has been whitewashed by generations of effort on the part of radio DJs, record executives, and music historians who either ignored, overlooked, or erased Black artists’ contributions to a genre and American culture.

Cowboy Carter is out on March 29 via Parkwood and Columbia.
