Russ Calls Out Hip-Hop Media With Conductor Williams-Produced “Legend Freestyle”

Russ has always been a pretty vocal guy and a controversial one in the eyes of some as well. His passion for the landscape of hip-hop, where he fits within it, and the media’s relationship with the artists, are all topics you can find him speaking on. All three are sort of covered in Russ’ newest song “Legend Freestyle,” produced by Conductor Williams. The latter is discussed, but the Georgia MC is holding back one bit. He’s calling out publications by name and unleashing on the credentials of journalists. “I’m not impressed with editors of Rolling Stone or GQ / Y’all egos crazy if you think that artists actually need you / Y’all don’t move the needle.”

But he doesn’t stop there. “It’s a different game, adapt, just like the rest of us / Critics can’t take criticism but be the first ones disrespectin’ us, p***ies / Cosplayin’ as God like you got power, power.” It’s not anything jaw-dropping from Russ at this point, as he’s been saying this for years. On top of putting the media on blast, he gasses himself up as a legend in the game. In some respects, he certainly has standing to make this claim. He’s been a dominant figure in the sort-of underground, sort-of mainstream lane for over a decade due to his prolific nature. Give the track a spin and see what you think of it and its messages.

“Legend Freestyle” – Russ

Quotable Lyrics:

If you do me wrong I’m in unforgivin’ mood
I make the music that my younger self would love to listen to
Permission to be myself, but I’m not askin’ no more
I starved myself of self-love, but I’m not fastin’ no more
Tell myself that I’m okay, I’m just workin’ on believin’ it
I see all the love and praise, I’m workin’ on receivin’ it

Conductor Williams Calls On Wiz Khalifa, Benny The Butcher, Russ, & More For “Conductor We Have A Problem, Pt.3”

It’s been done! Conductor Williams finally (somehow) has his first rapper/producer project out as of Halloween, Conductor We Have A Problem, Pt.3. It’s the third entry into this series and first since around this time last year. Also surprising is that the Missouri producer wasn’t able to find a distributor for this project. So, he wound up having to fund it himself. For that we are so grateful to have this project in front of us. Overall, this is just a celebratory moment for one of the most consistent in the game.

But this album isn’t just here for kicks, it’s out to show just how talented of a curator he is. For the most part, Conductor Williams succeeds with most of the features holding up their end of the bargain. Rome Streetz, the duo of Wiz Khalifa and Benny The Butcher, as well as Elijah Hooks are some of the standouts. In terms of what Williams is giving listeners, there’s the usual and reliable dark boom bap instrumentals. Additionally, you will hear some hints of R&B thanks to the collaborations from Leon Thomas and Russ to some extent. To no surprise, the former of the aesthetics fare better. All in all, it’s great to have Conductor We Have A Problem, Pt.3 and we hope that the next will one will be even better.

Russ Celebrates His Life Accomplishments Over Conductor Williams-Produced “Ecstasy (Freestyle)”

Conductor Williams is a world-class talent in the producing realm and has been for a few years. His portfolio includes work with Drake, J. Cole, JID, Tyler, The Creator, Westside Gunn, and more. However, unlike names such as Metro Boomin, Southside, Mike WiLL Made-It, and The Alchemist, for example, the solo catalog still needs some bolstering. It’s not bad by any means, but we would be lying if we said we haven’t been waiting for a new solo project. Well, that’s going to happen very soon, thankfully, and it’s looking like it will be on Halloween.

It’s going to be the third installment in the CONDUCTOR WE HAVE A PROBLEM series and the second on DSPs. Currently, only the first from last year is widely available. So far, the Kansas City, MO producer has dropped off one track from it called “Get Away!” featuring Rome Streetz. Frankly, it was an excellent start to the rollout. The only problem is that the track is just under two minutes. For now, it’s looking like this could be a complaint with the album. We say that because Conductor Williams’ second single, “Ecstasy (Freestyle)” with Russ is just a few seconds longer. Again, it’s another great listen. The delicate and soulful production is a dreamy backdrop that accompanies Russ’ victory lap of his lofty accomplishments (helping himself and his family financially). But it’s just too short. Hopefully, we get some beefier cuts, but we can’t gripe too much. Stream “Ecstasy (Freestyle) below.

It’s been an adjustment, but I power forward like Tim Duncan
Drake said it best I think I like who l’m becoming, yeah

Drake’s New Album With Conductor Williams Is Reportedly Dropping Soon

Drake can’t stop. He announces breaks from the music the way other rappers announce retirements, and none of them stick. The last time the 6 God claimed to be taking personal time, he dropped the critically adored Scary Hours 3. It sounds like he’s getting back into a similar headspace. There hasn’t been a lack of Drake material in recent months, but Ebro dropped a bombshell during the July 30 episode of the Ebro In the Morning podcast. He claimed that the Toronto rapper is going to be dropping an album very, very soon.

Ebro didn’t play coy with his seemingly exclusive information. He came right out on the podcast and made it clear that Drake is in full-on rapper mode. “I heard Drake’s got a project this year,” he told his cohosts. Laura Stylez chimed in, teasing fans with an impending release date. “I heard that it’s coming sooner than we think,” she asserted. The most exciting bit of information, though, came from the third host, Peter Rosenberg. He claimed that Drizzy has been in the studio with Conductor Williams, and the two have been churning out songs together. “I also heard that he has a whole project’s worth of music done with Conductor Williams,” Rosenberg noted. “Which is the opposite [of recent Drake songs], very hip-hoppy.”

Drake And Conductor Williams Worked On FATD

Fans of For All the Dogs know the magic Drake and Conductor Williams can make together. Williams was responsible for producing “8AM In Charlotte,” which is considered to be one of Drake’s best songs of the decade. He also produced “Stories About My Brother” on Scary Hours 3. The song also contains some of Drizzy’s best rapping in years. If the claims made by the Ebro In the Morning crew are true, than fans will be getting lyrical Drake. It’s possible that not all of Williams’ beats make the final cut of the album, but given their track record, we hope most of them do.

Conductor Williams detailed his working relationship with Drake during a 2023 interview with Complex. “[Drake] is a crafts person,” he said. “And also a person of the arts. That was the main bond. The respect was mutual in that way. He made it so comfortable for me to be myself to where I start sending him the ideas that I’ve always had.” The producer then claimed that Drizzy was one of the greatest artists of his generation. “You got the greatest, one of the greatest artists,” he asserted. “Again, I’m going keep saying this, one of the greatest of my generation inspired to write. Let’s catch lightning in the bottle.”

Boldy James Has Another AOTY Contender With Conductor Williams-Assisted “Across The Tracks”

The underground scene has a lot of standout voices, but Boldy James might be the guy at this moment in time. Atlanta born and Detroit raised, the Griselda affiliate seemingly winds up on every album of the year list. His consistency is probably his greatest attribute, as he rarely misses on a LP or EP. For example, Boldy and his co-star, Nicholas Craven, already have a critically praised tape out with Penalty of Leadership. Now, you might want to add Across The Tracks, the first collaboration between Boldy James and Conductor Williams, to those rankings.

The former loves to work alongside hip-hop’s best beat makers quite often. So, it was only a matter of time before him, and Conductor linked up. The latter is also on quite of run of his own. From his work with Drake to JID, the legendary boom-bap specialist is now going to get even more shine thanks to his efforts on Across The Tracks. His instrumentals range from downright blissful to dark and grungy. Some our favorite beats include “The Ol Switcharoo”, “Flying Trapeze Act”, “Lamp Shade”, and “Terms And Conditions”. Speaking of the latter, it was one of two promotional tracks, with “Offwhite Lumberjack” being the more recent one. As for Boldy’s performances, they are top notch again, mixing great rhymes, some humor, along with relentless flows. Both artists are in their bags from track 1-10.

Boldy James & Conductor Williams Establish Their “Terms And Conditions” On New Single: Stream

When it comes to conversations about the best hip-hop artists, what matters most: who’s been the best over time, or who is the best right now? We’ll let you decide for yourself, but on that last note, few MCs are as consistent right now as Boldy James, and few producers have quite the current catalog that Conductor Williams does. As such, it’s no surprise that their upcoming collab album Across The Tracks, set for a June 28 release, quickly became one of the most anticipated projects of the year for rap fans.

Furthermore, we just got our first taste of how good this album will likely come out thanks to the project’s first single, “Terms And Conditions.” The “Mr. Perfect” spitter brings his usually sharp street wordplay and particularly marks the differences between his beginning and his current form, whereas the “Mercury Thermometers” beatsmith employs a grand and triumphantly harmonic vocal sample with a dry and simple drum break. It’s a powerful combo from Boldy James and Conductor Williams, setting a lavish and tender tone without compromising its grittiness.

Meanwhile, recent collab projects like Boldy James’ Penalty Of Leadership album with Nicholas Craven this year and Conductor Williams’ CONDUCTOR MACHINE EP with Conway The Machine last December are further proof that Across The Tracks is going to be very special. If you haven’t heard “Terms And Conditions” yet, find it on your preferred streaming service or check it out on YouTube below. Down there, you can find the comments section for you to leave your thoughts on the record plus some notable lines. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest great music drops around the clock.

Benny The Butcher Praises Drake For Pushing The Culture Forward

Drake isn’t getting lots of compliments these days. He lost the battle to Kendrick Lamar, and now has to contend with the fact that the number one single on the charts, “Not Like Us,” is song in which he gets called a pedophile. Not a great look. The Toronto rapper will rebound, barring any legal troubles, but he recently got support from an unexpected source. Benny the Butcher, a charter member of the grimy rap collective Griselda, praised Drake for his musical contributions.

Benny discussed the rapper during an April appearance on Montreality. He believes that those who hate on Drake for making radio songs are simply envious of his pen game. “Drake is phenomenal,” he opined. “N**gas that hate on Drake pen is jealous. Drake that n**ga, you know what I’m saying. He a fair n**ga, he look out for dudes, give dudes verses and sh*t.” The latter point is especially interesting, given that the Toronto rapper has been accused of being a “culture vulture” and a “colonizer” by Lamar. Drake’s been hit with these accusations for years, but Lamar crystallized them on record.

Benny The Butcher Claims Drake Is “Doing His Part”

Benny the Butcher does not agree with this line of thinking. He went on to commend Drake for giving features to young artists and co-signing those who are less popular. “Drake takes the responsibility of pushing the culture forward,” Benny asserted. “When you have a position like he has in the game, you have to do that. He takes that responsibility head on.”

The Griselda rapper went on to dismiss the idea that Drake is not giving back to the artists he’s a fan of. “People ask ‘Why he got a song with him or why he doing features with him.’ Because he like those n**gas and that’s what he like to do,” Benny added. “He’s pushing the culture forward. He’s doing his part.”

The praise runs both ways. Drake praised Benny the Butcher and the Griselda crew during a 2020 interview with Rap Radar. “I really like… Just that whole cliquing up, Griselda sh*t is just ill,” he noted. When asked whether he would be willing to collaborate with Benny the Butcher, Drake said yes. “I’m down,” he asserted. “Benny showed me love one time on an interview, too. I think what they’re doing is great.” Drake has already worked with frequent Griselda producer Conductor Williams, so hopefully we get to hear more between the different crews.

Your Old Droog Revving Up For New Album “Movie” With Conductor Williams-Produced Lead Single “Mercury Thermometers”

Your Old Droog is one the grittiest New York rappers your ears will ever hear. That is saying a lot, given how many blue-collar MCs come from there. His deliberate flow makes it easy to dissect every bar and entendre he spits at you. Today, Your Old Droog is back with another one of those cutthroat records called “Mercury Thermometers.” This is his latest offering, and it follows up on a handful of stellar features over the last couple of weeks. “DBZ” with Method Man, Denzel Curry and Madlib was one hell of a team-up and has quickly risen to the top of Droog’s most popular tracks on Spotify.

Another song that has been hitting for him has been “REEKYOD.” Another Madlib-backed track, Zel’s spot is swapped for another icon, Black Thought. While they are not his tracks, Droog still brings it to each offering, but that should not be a surprise. “Mercury Thermometers” is his track though, and it is also a lead single for a new project coming soon.
