Charli XCX Stars In A New Campaign As The Face Of Luxury Streetwear Brand Acne Studios

Brat summer might be over, but Charli XCX is the gift that keeps on giving. Just this season, Charli dropped the star-studded Brat remix album, brat and it’s completely different but also still brat (see the Billie Eilish-assisted “Guess” remix, produced by indie sleaze icon The Dare), announced a link-up and starring role in director Pete Ohs Erupcja, joined the cast of Romain Gavras’ Sacrifice, snagged nine Grammy nominations (including Album of the Year), and is now starring in a new campaign from Stockholm, Sweden-based brand Acne Studios with a photoshoot shot by renowned New York photographer Talia Chetrit.

The world can’t seem to get enough. We’re psyched not just because we’re massive Charli fans, but we love collaborations that make sense and Acne Studios, with its high-fashion meets streetwear aesthetic, is oozing with brat vibes.

The new collection mostly focuses on shoulder bags and baggy-fit jeans but also dips into accessories like padlock chain necklaces, metal frame sunglasses, as other staples like skirts, heels, and iridescent mini dresses. Just about everything from the collection looks straight out of a Charli XCX video, with the exception of the scarfs, which are way more demure than anything associated with this era of Charli.

Check out the full collection here and check out some of the lookbook photos below.

Mustard Completely Rules Out Working With Drake Following The Kendrick Lamar Beef

If you were hoping for a Drake and Mustard collaboration, we are sorry to break your heart. According to an interview with the Los Angeles Times (via AllHipHop), the California producer is totally ruling that possibility out. It makes sense, as he did concoct the already iconic instrumental for Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”. Additionally, his X rant about his low album sales for Faith Of A Mustard Seed was another indicator. He claimed that Drizzy helped Gordo drop his LP (which contained Drake collabs) the same day as his.

“Drake is the Malcolm X of white people 😂”, Mustard began. “And Akademiks make sure you post Gordo’s first week since Drake thought he did a thing with making him drop on the same day as me 😂”. So, yeah, he’s made his feelings pretty clear, but this feature with the outlet shows just how much hate he has inside of him for Drizzy. “I don’t think I want to make a song with that dude. He’s a strange guy”.

Mustard Is No Longer Messing With Drake

However, that quote is just the tip of the iceberg. When recalling the Pop Out show, he said it felt like everyone was getting rejuvenated. “I was right by the stage looking up at him as he was performing that night, and it was like everybody was getting healed”. Mustard said it had nothing to do with Drake, but all of the previous quotes we listed sort of contradict this one.

What are your thoughts on Mustard ruling out any possibility of working with Drake again? Do you think they will ultimately make up, why or why not? Is the hate for Drizzy going too far, or is it all valid? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Nicki Minaj Previews Drake & Juice WRLD Collabs Ahead Of Next “Pink Friday 2” Deluxe

Yesterday, August 20, Nicki Minaj sent out a tweet that had the Barbz truly elated. “PF2 #GagCityReloaded – the album”. Yes, if two expanded editions of Pink Friday 2 weren’t enough for you, a third alternate version is on its way. However, we are currently being left in the dark about when it will release. That remains true today as well, according to AllHipHop. Nicki Minaj hopped on Instagram Live for about 45 minutes late last night with over 4,700 fans tuning in, presumably to hear any sort of extra news.

If that’s true, then the Queens, New York MC certainly fulfilled their wishes. As we said, she wasn’t able to give a drop date, but here are the words straight from the source. “I will be doing a deluxe version of Pink Friday 2. It will be called Pink Friday 2 Gag City Reloaded. It’s going to be out soon. Do I have the exact dates for you? No. Is it coming out this week? No. But it’s coming”. However, that was about the only disappointing part of the whole Live because she would go on to preview several tracks that could be on this deluxe.

Nicki Minaj Gives The Barbz A Taste Of Several Tracks

Some of them included Drake and Juice WRLD collaborations. However, it seems like the former won’t be on Gag City Reloaded as she was playing a version of Camila Cabello’s “HOT UPTOWN” with her on it that didn’t see the light of day. “I’m not on it but the song is out”. Later, Nicki would go on to play two, “Anxiety” and “Mamita”, with the latter having potentially multiple guests. Fans were enjoying the former and it turns out to be one of her favorites as well. “Isn’t that so beautiful”? Finally, for Juice WRLD, she’s really hoping she can get him on it. “It would be incredible for me I think to have Juice WRLD on this album. Because before he passed that’s what we were talking about. He recorded a bunch of stuff when he was in my studio, but I don’t like to exploit people, and people’s deaths and stuff like that”.

“Blonde Hair” was one of the tracks that made its way onto her IG Live. Overall, there’s a lot of excitement around this upcoming deluxe and it seems that there’s a chance for a lot of extra material. What are your thoughts on Nicki Minaj sampling these new tracks with Drake and Juice WRLD for Pink Friday 2 (Gag City Reloaded)? Which one is your favorite out of the bunch? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Drake Shows Love To His Streaming Fans, Drops Off “100 GIGS” EP

It was bound to happen at some point. Drake has just put “It’s Up,” “Blue Green Red”, and “Housekeeping Knows”, aka 100 GIGS, on DSPs. All three songs were a part of 100 GB of numerous files, videos, and random clips that the Canadian icon decided to share with the world. All of this is available on 100gigs.org, a site he launched on August 6. As of now, we aren’t really sure what Drake’s plan is right now by releasing all of this content. Sure, he supposedly took the time to respond to A$AP Rocky’s subliminals on “It’s Up”. But as far as we can tell, none of his bars were digs at Kendrick Lamar.

21 Savage did seem to have his sights set on him on the track we just mentioned, though. The only slight indicator that shows that something is possibly brewing is an IG account that Drake follows. It goes by indigochild369 and in the user’s bio it reads, “First account made some people anxious. Here we go again round 2 “‘FIGHT’”. That message presumably alludes to the plottttwiistttttt page that Drake put together during this 100gigs.org rollout. This could all be a ploy to try and get under Lamar’s skin, which is something Drake did plenty of during “round one”. Obviously, though he would be quite foolish to do that again based on the results. But yes, as it stands, Drake is doing what he does best with this 100 GIGS release, and these next few weeks will be interesting to monitor.

Kanye West Drops “Vultures 2” Bonus Tracks Featuring Kid Cudi, Kodak Black & Bad Bunny

Over the weekend, Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign unveiled their eagerly anticipated album, Vultures 2. The release took fans off guard, as it arrived by surprise following multiple delays. The project has had listeners split since it dropped. While many were satisfied, others raised issues with the mixing. Ye later announced that he’d be delivering updated versions of various tracks.

He even recently unveiled three new bonus tracks, “Believer,” “Drunk” featuring Bad Bunny and Kodak Black, and “Gun To My Head” featuring Kid Cudi. They’re currently available for purchase exclusively on the Yeezy website until midnight ET. As expected, these too have elicited mixed reactions from fans. While many think these would have been valuable additions to the original release, others are questioning their price point.

Kanye West Unveils Three New Vultures 2 Bonus Tracks

Vultures 2 going from worst album ever to Album of the year,” one X user writes in Kurrco‘s comments section. “They ain’t finished,” another suspects. Vultures 2 is far from the only reason Ye is making headlines as of late, however. Earlier this week, his former Chief of Staff Milo Yiannopoulos made some shocking claims about his dentist Thomas P. Connelly in an affidavit. He alleged that Connelly has been supplying the Chicago-born performer with large quantities of nitrous gas for recreational use since he installed his titanium grill.

Yiannopoulos expressed concern for Ye’s well-being, alleging that he has a “dependence” on the substance. For obvious reasons, fans are worried. #SaveYe began to trend on X earlier today as social media users urged him to seek help. Many are even calling for Ye to put off the release of Vultures 3 so he can focus solely on his health for the time being. What do you think of Kanye West dropping new Vultures 2 deluxe tracks? Which one is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

The Foreign Exchange Reunite For The First Time In 6 Years For “The Grey / I Couldn’t Love You More (Dub)”

Underground rapper/producer duo The Foreign Exchange is back with a fresh set of tracks called “The Grey / I Couldn’t Love You More”. This is the most recent offering from rapper of Little Brother, Phonte, and Dutch producer Nicolay. It is their first under this moniker in a little over six years, as it follows up on the single “June”, which dropped on the fourth of that month in 2018. In terms of projects, The Foreign Exchange’s last offering was a 2017 tape called Hide&Seek. In usual fashion, you are getting great material from Phonte and Nicolay, as both tracks in this two pack go over extremely well.

Overall, “The Grey” offers up a little more in terms of lyrical substance. However, the more subdued “I Couldn’t Love You More” is still a rich listening experience thanks to the production from Nicolay. The latter, according to HipHopDX, is actually a remake of R&B legend Sade’s track of the same name. Tigallo is responsible for the rendition and does a great job capturing the magic of the original. So, why are The Foreign Exchange returning after a such a long hiatus? Well, this is all a part of a 20th anniversary celebration of the duo’s debut project together, Connected. Additionally, they are releasing a limited number of colored vinyls (300) to commemorate this special occasion.

Shaquille O’Neal Rereleases Two 28-Year-Old Tracks Via The “SHAQ Pack”

Shaquille O’Neal is without a doubt the most dominant player the NBA has ever seen. From the moment he stepped onto the floor as a rookie with the Orlando Magic to even his Miami Heat days, there were not many better at his position. The same could be said about his pen game, as he was and still is passionate about his musical career. He was dropping quite a lot of music in the mid to late 1990s, working with some of the best in the booth. The Diesel did take a long break, but lately he has revisited the rapping side of things. Shaquille O’Neal’s SHAQ Pack is here to remind us of his abilities, featuring two songs from 1996.

“Strait Playin’” and “Legal Money” were two popular cuts off You Can’t Stop the Reign, a project that featured plenty of heavy hitters. Some of them included Peter Gunz, DJ Quik, Mobb Deep, and Lord Tariq. The first two land on “Strait Playin’”, a braggadocious, West Coast special. Then, Mobb Deep bring their production expertise and some verses to the table to accompany the standout hook from Tariq. Here, the all-star cast raps about earning dough through reliable means, instead of the dangerous methods that rappers sometimes fall into. There is no telling if Shaq plans on reviving the project and dropping it on streaming. But we are enjoying these blasts from the past.

Pusha T Reveals Why Artists Continue To Collaborate With Kanye West

Kanye West is someone who never shies away from airing his unfiltered opinions, which has evidently cost him quite a bit in recent years. Regardless, the Chicago MC has maintained a fiercely loyal fanbase and continues to take part in various high-profile collabs. Just last week, for example, he unveiled his remix of Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You track, “Like That,” which originally featured Kendrick Lamar. His joint album with Ty Dolla Sign, Vultures 1, is also jam-packed with notable names. Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Chris Brown, Quavo, and many more make appearances.

Of course, all of this arrived after Ye shared plans to go “Death con 3” on Jewish people. During a recent interview with Complex, Pusha T weighed in on why it is that other performers continue to work with the controversial figure. According to him, Ye’s artistry simply can’t be denied, nor can the level of exposure he’s able to provide to his collaborators.

“I believe that there’s a level of visibility that comes along with being next to somebody like Ye,” he explained. “At the end of the day, it’s a level of musicality and genius-level production that comes along with being next to him. So you get a lot of things that I think artists are looking for these days in being next to him.”

“It’s all about the music for me and just making music at a certain level,” Pusha T also added. “I’ve been in this game a long time, so it’s about a certain type of hip-hop that I want to make. And truthfully, Ye definitely knows what I like to make, and I only want to be a part of things that I want to do.” What do you think of Pusha T’s take on artists continuing to work with Kanye West despite all of the controversy surrounding him? Does he have a point? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Joe Budden Speculates Drake Is Being Paid To Promote Sexyy Red

Joe Budden says he thinks that Drake is getting paid to promote Sexyy Red as the two have posted themselves hanging out on social media numerous times in recent months. Discussing the relationship between the two on his podcast, Budden remarked: “You think he just likes being around Sexyy Red that much? I could name some more people. The Best Amy Winehouse Samples In Hip-Hop

With every generation, there are a handful of artists whose talent, reach, and story mark themselves as timeless achievements and souls. Without question, Amy Winehouse is one of the 21st century’s most important exponents in this regard. Her influence ushered in revitalizations of vocal flair, vintage aesthetics, and raw, emotive storytelling and character portraits in popular music. The London singer encompassed so much: powerful songwriting, carefully crafted and intent-driven releases, production that is deeply appreciative of the wide-ranging musical canon, and a truly resonant voice in every way. So it’s no surprise that her love of hip-hop, and so many other genres, drove much of her artistry.

Furthermore, the culture certainly returned the favor, and continues to do so to this day. As recently as October 2023, U.K. rapper Skepta sampled Amy Winehouse’s vocals from her 2006 song “Tears Dry On Their Own” on his aptly titled house cut, “Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy).” So many rap subgenres and communities appreciated her work: classic boom-bap exponents, Atlanta trap pioneers, Long Beach genre-benders, and some of the biggest artists in the game in general. Across these six picks (in no particular order), the late legend’s legacy lives on through artists and art forms that she championed like few others.

“Tears Dry On Their Own” Dungeon Family Remix – Organized Noize (Released 2011)

Speaking of Skepta’s treatment of this Back To Black cut from 2006, frequent Outkast collaborators -– and some of the best producers out of the South -– also gave it a spin. Amy Winehouse’s vocals, instead of pairing with retro instrumentation with a peppier step, ride over heavy kicks, chopped-up piano melodies and background vocals, and sharp snares, crafting a DJ Screw-esque effect. Of course, this is exactly the type of beat that the Dungeon Family perfected back in the 1990s and 2000s. Despite the aesthetic change, the contralto vocalist’s croons and swells sound even more spotlit and passionate here.

Sure, the mixing quality of this version is a little off, probably because of how its distribution methods have aged. Big Boi originally posted this remix on a website after she passed, and YouTube re-releases of it hit your ears with a lot of fuzz. Bizarrely, though, it adds to the atmosphere of this Amy Winehouse reimagining in a contemporary context. Much like the soul and R&B that inspired so much of her greatness (and that she and frequent production collaborators Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi sampled), it sounds like an unearthed vinyl that becomes a gem for a crate-digger years later, crackling through the speakers with all the passion its performer holds.

“Kush Is My Cologne” – Gucci Mane ft. Bun B, E-40 & Devin The Dude (2009)

Moving over to one of the six-time Grammy Award winner’s most popular songs, Back To Black‘s opener, “Rehab,” is one of her most iconic hooks and instrumentals. Even Gucci Mane took a liking to it, and on his 2009 album The State vs. Radric Davis, he interpolated the chorus for one of his verse lines. “Kush, purp, strong dro, What I need cologne for? They tried to send me to rehab but I said ‘No, no I won’t go,’” he raps on the record. It’s certainly one of the most tonally conflictive but curious examples on this list.

However, we’d be remiss not to mention Jay-Z and Pharoahe Monch’s remixes of “Rehab,” each of which came out around 2008 and warrants a listen. Unfortunately, none of these tracks knew how Amy Winehouse’s career would tragically end. As such, it’s strong whiplash to listen to any version of this song today, yet it doesn’t take away from its potency, its resonance, and its quality as a composition and performance. Also, it’s a reminder that music can affect lives for many different reasons than why lives affected its creation, and few artists can ever transcend their context like this.

“vpn” – Lil Ugly Mane (2021)

Here we have one of the most subtle instances of sampling on the list: a simple drum beat that’s distorted, echoed, and manipulated to make it a hazy, lo-fi driving force. Lil Ugly Mane doesn’t rap on “vpn,” as this is an album (2021’s volcanic bird enemy and the voiced concern) where he goes into more singing, trip-hop inspirations, and a lot of genre and timbre experimentation. So what’s the drum beat that he takes from? It’s from Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” (also off Back To Black), on which Homer Steinweiss is on the kit.

Perhaps the most important thing to remark about “vpn” as it relates to “You Know I’m No Good” is how it’s able to communicate the slightly despondent, melancholy, yet hopeful tone of the original. Lyrically, both artists play a lot with how their inner demons inform their relationships, and they make you feel that push-and-pull with their deliveries. Amy Winehouse’s contributions are as musical as they are personal, as many saw their own troubles reflected in her confidence and honesty. There’s also a great remix of the original featuring Ghostface Killah, which should be another gem for you to add to your queue.

“Half-Time” – Flatbush Zombies Ft. A$AP Twelvyy (2015)

Coming off the New York trio’s non-streaming 2015 EP expansion, Day Of The Dead, this track samples Amy Winehouse’s “Half Time” (with drums courtesy of none other than Questlove) released posthumously on the 2011 project Lioness: Hidden Treasures. With glistening keys, an easy-going but crisp drum beat, and dense staccato bass, this is a classic East Coast boom-bap treatment. Each MC on here flows incredibly well, and the dreamy instrumental evokes the original’s themes of a passion for music. We’re repeating ourselves here, but it’s the truth: few artists could represent this fervor more than the Frank superstar.

Not only that, but this is also one of the most musically complex examples on this list, albeit a simple technique in the grand scheme of things. “Half-Time” switches between loops of two different parts of “Half-Time” to build its progression. A slowdown towards the end makes the dream feel even woozier, and it makes us wonder what amazing collaborations could’ve come from Amy Winehouse and the contemporary lane of sample-based and genre-fusing hip-hop artists. Like everything that was ever great, it leaves us wanting a little more.

“Alyssa Interlude” – Vince Staples (2017)

Now, for what might be the most unique sample choice here, we have Vince Staples’ excellent and experimental 2017 album, Big Fish Theory. On the frantically percussive but atmospherically calming cut “Alyssa Interlude,” the Long Beach MC -– rather, the track’s producer “Zack Sekoff” -– samples an Amy Winehouse interview with Tim Chipping from 2006. “That’s like a real drug, isn’t it?” she says of love. “So when it -– when it didn’t come together, I was just like… you know? It really hurt. But I needed enough distance from it so that it wasn’t, like, raw emotion anymore. But not enough -– enough distance that I’d forget. I’m quite a self-destructive person, so I guess… I guess I keep giving myself material.”

Emotionally, this is a powerful moment considering the English icon’s personal struggles with addiction and mental health. It also means a lot to Vince Staples, as she inspired his 2016 EP Prima Donna and uses this interview to complement his romantic feelings for someone who is no longer there. “A true artist can make you feel both their sorrow and their happiness,” he said of Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black, one of his favorite albums, during a TIDAL Magazine interview. “You feel all of these emotions back to back and transform them into these stories without noticing the shift. Definitely someone who was gone too soon. R.I.P.”

“Cherry Wine” – Nas Ft. Amy Winehouse (2012)

Yeah, we know this isn’t a sample, but we can’t talk about Amy Winehouse and hip-hop without bringing up her strong bond with Nas. He was her crush, as portrayed in her track “Me and Mr. Jones,” and they met up thanks to the producer of “Cherry Wine” and collaborator-in-common, Salaam Remi. This cut, released on Esco’s 2012 album Life Is Good, resulted from a lot of back-and-forth work together, of which they had a lot before she tragically passed. Eventually, the “Valerie” hitmaker’s demo vocals for the song surfaced (which technically makes it a sample), and the Queens legend could pay fitting tribute to his birthday twin. They were born on September 14 exactly a decade apart.

What’s more is that she had previously sampled his 2002 song “Made You Look” on her 2003 release “In My Bed,” both produced by Salaam Remi. Back to “Cherry Wine,” though, Amy Winehouse longs for her soulmate (whom many interpret to be the Illmatic lyricist), as he goes over what he wants in a woman. It’s tender, soulful, well-paced, sonically pristine, and an evocative display of chemistry and appreciation. “We’re just so thankful that her people were so understanding that, you know, this was our homie,” Nas told Power 106 in 2012. “They let us rock out with her music on the album. So, we got love for Amy forever. That’s our sister. Love her.” We’re forever thankful for what these artists did to honor Amy Jade, and even more thankful for what she saw in hip-hop.
