Da Beatminerz Recruit Loads Of Guests, Including De La Soul, For Album Single “My Year”

What happens when you combine talented producers and rappers together on one record? You are going to a terrific track that you are going to want to spin over and over again. That is exactly the case with this new Da Beatminerz single “My Year” with a feature from De La Soul. However, the latter are not the only spitters on this boom-bap cut. “My Year” also includes the talents from Pharoahe Monche, Rasheed Chappell, and Corey Glover.

For those who are not familiar, Da Beatminerz are a hip-hop production collective from Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York. They have developed into one of the longest standing groups in the genre’s history. To be more specific, they have been doing the business for over 30 years. “My Year” is the second promotional track for what will be their first album in two decades.

It is titled Stifled Creativity and it will be out on June 21. Fun fact: it will be out the day before the 20-year anniversary of that last record, Fully Loaded w/ Statik. One half of the production duo, Mr. Walt, detailed the process of getting this song out to the masses. “My Year” was one of the first songs we worked on when we started the album and the order you hear them in is the order we made. It took a minute to get Dave’s vocals because of his health. When we got them, We were so grateful and appreciative. He didn’t have to do the song, but he came through & that the world to me, he explains. “I met Rasheed through Kenny Dope. When I heard him, I automatically wanted to work with him, so when we put the blueprint together for the song, I knew he would fit perfectly.” We could not agree with Mr. Walt, the track is incredible.

Hit-Boy, Big Hit, & The Alchemist Link With HitgirlLena For “Black & Whites” Single “Gank Move”

Hit-Boy, Big Hit, and The Alchemist have been hyping up their forthcoming collaborative title Black & Whites over the month of May. They have been doing a masterful job at doing so in our eyes. The legendary trio put together a hilarious trailer by calling back to the 90s comedy film Office Space. They recreated the memorable printer smashing scene nearly to a tee and it was a blast to watch. On top of that, Hit-Boy and his crew have put out some solid singles for the project, including this most recent one, “Gank Move.”

This is now marks the third promotional track we have gotten in the last three weeks. Firstly, The father/son duo and Uncle Al dropped “Foreclosure” just a day after the teaser trailer. Second was the self-titled cut, which saw Al and Big Hit lyrically spar effectively. Now, we have “Gank Move,” which did not get any promotion from any of the album’s creators.

What the previous two offerings had in common was zero inclusion from any guests. However, that all changes this time around, as HitgirlLena joins the fray. This collab appears to have been coming at some point, as evidenced by her Instagram page. It seems that a lot of rappers who are in their early 20s these days are pumping out a lot of trap party tracks. One of those names who is nearly making it his brand it feels like is 2Rare. He hails from the historic and colorful city of Philadelphia. Artists who have been contributing to its exuberance include Lil Uzi Vert, Armani White, and Tierra Whack. However, 2Rare might need to start being in those conversations, especially with songs like “C4.”

He may not be as innovative or creative as those names, but he is trying to perfect the club anthems. “C4” may be one of his best outings yet. Especially since the 23-year-old rapper is bringing along some artists who know a thing or two about making bangers. In this instance he is working alongside Rob49, and Detroit rising star, Skilla Baby.

One of the standout qualities of this song is the lush and carefree production. Of course, it’s got the traditional resonant bass, hi-hats and kick drums. However, the twinkly sound effects laced on top when 2Rare’s chorus pops in, gives it an early 2000s feel in a way. Each rapper also breathes some extra life into “C4” with their high energy and sometimes hilarious bars.

Your Old Droog is one the grittiest New York rappers your ears will ever hear. That is saying a lot, given how many blue-collar MCs come from there. His deliberate flow makes it easy to dissect every bar and entendre he spits at you. Today, Your Old Droog is back with another one of those cutthroat records called “Mercury Thermometers.” This is his latest offering, and it follows up on a handful of stellar features over the last couple of weeks. “DBZ” with Method Man, Denzel Curry and Madlib was one hell of a team-up and has quickly risen to the top of Droog’s most popular tracks on Spotify.

Another song that has been hitting for him has been “REEKYOD.” Another Madlib-backed track, Zel’s spot is swapped for another icon, Black Thought. While they are not his tracks, Droog still brings it to each offering, but that should not be a surprise. “Mercury Thermometers” is his track though, and it is also a lead single for a new project coming soon.

Dom Corleo & Veeze Link For The First Time On “Duh Duh Duh”

Dom Corleo, at least for us, can be hit or miss. That could be a lazy take, as music is mostly subjective, but that defines the Fremont, California native in a nutshell in our opinion. We have seen him drop some copycat tracks like his two-pack, “DEVOTE/BITE,” but then turn around and give us an accessible banger. This time around Dom Corleo rides a pretty catchy instrumental on “duh duh duh.”

According to Genius, this has the potential to be a promotional single for an upcoming LP. Under My Influence is the title for now and outside of some possible titles to land on it, that is all the intel we have. On “duh duh duh,” Dom Corleo taps someone new to breathe some extra life into the cut. That fresh face is Veeze, the gravelly-voiced rapper from Detroit, who broke through last year with his album Ganger.

The part of the single that sticks out for us is the aforementioned instrumental. There is an endearing quality to it that is a little hard to pinpoint, but it just works. The piano keys, mixed with the wacky sound effects and kick drums all mesh well. Additionally, the colorful and goofy music video adds that extra pizzaz and helps sell the fun energy of the song. Dom definitely passed the banger test this time around.

He usually goes for extremely dark and murderous tones that are synonymous with the current trap scene. Fatt especially has a fondness for beats that include heavy piano keys, but on his latest single, he is going for a slightly different approach.

On “In The Air,” YTB Fatt opts for the traditional Southern hip-hop sound, while throwing in a looping guitar riff that weaves in and out. His close collaborator, klutchfrenchie, is credited once again as the producer this time around. However, YTB is teaming up with a new face as well for this single as well. This time, the up-and-coming star is hitting the booth with Alabama MC, Rylo Rodriguez.

Camila Cabello & Lil Nas X Provide A Much-Improved Offering With “HE KNOWS”

About a month and a half ago, Cuban pop sensation and former Fifth Harmony figure Camila Cabello had fans severely divided. The 27-year-old dropped the lead single for her upcoming fourth solo effort C,XOXO, “I LUV IT.” It was a head-scratcher for a lot of people, to put it lightly. Her repetitive and frankly annoying chorus, mixed with the hodge podge of an instrumental were harsh on the ears. Additionally, the track had a Playboi Carti feature that was out of place. Simultaneously, it has gone on to easily be his worst feature of the year so far. This time around, Camila Cabello looks to right the ship with “HE KNOWS.”

For us, this song far and away is of higher quality than “I LUV IT” in a multitude of ways. Instrumentally, the rhythm that we are accustomed to from a Cabello track is back. It is groovy, as well as dizzying, but in a good way. There are some hypnotic background vocals from what we assume are from her as well. Vocally, Camila does not come off sounding like a spoiled brat, which is how we would describe her delivery on “I LUV IT.”

Then, the feature, which is provided by Lil Nas X, is also an improvement. It is more fun, animated, and honestly quite hilarious. It still may not be for everyone, but it is far more memorable in comparison to Carti. As we mentioned, she hails from St. Louis, Missouri, the same city as her contemporary, Sexyy Red. According to the internet, she is 24 years old and has been dropping tracks since June of last year. In fact, her first-ever release, “BING BONG,” was the song that blew away 300 Entertainment, which is the label she is signed to.
