Fans have been eagerly anticipating Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s collaborative LP for time now. They were left disappointed last week when various promotional Instagram posts for the project were erased, prompting rumors that it might be scrapped altogether. Their previously announced listening parties were also cancelled in October, only compounding speculation.
Luckily for those awaiting the drop, Ty Dolla Sign has now provided an update on the album, seemingly confirming that the project will be released after all. According to him, listeners won’t have to wait much longer either. He revealed that he’s been in the studio with Ye in Saudi Arabia as of late, working on his portion of the joint LP. “I just landed on a flight from Saudi Arabia,” he explained. “I’ve been out there recording a part of my album with my brother Ye. And that’s coming real soon.”
Ty Dolla Sign Gives Update On New LP With Kanye West
While the duo has yet to announce an official release date for the project, it appears as though fans are closer than ever to hearing it. It’s not the only new music they can expect to hear from Ye in the near future, however. At the end of last month, J Prince shared that he also ventured to the Middle East, and got a preview of the Chicago native’s upcoming solo album. According to him, it’s sounding great. “Nice listening to some of the new album with the homies in Saudi Arabia,” he said. “It’s hot. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. Full of Respect, Structure, and Peace.”
That project doesn’t have an official release date either, but it’s safe to say that fans can’t wait. What do you think of Ty Dolla Sign’s update on his joint album with Kanye West? During a recent interview, Offset opened up about his 2017 Without Warning track, “Ric Flair Drip.” While the song remains a hit among listeners, Offset revealed that he actually wasn’t a fan of it at first. He says that after recording it, he told Metro Boomin not to put it on the joint album with 21 Savage. Metro Boomin clearly ignored his request, as he had a hunch that it would perform well.
“Just so y’all know,” he began. “I hated the song.” When asked who was able to convince him to put the song on Without Warning, he said “it was Metro for sure.” He went on to detail the recording process, revealing that he didn’t even put much effort into it. “It was a west coast beat … when I did it I didn’t take it serious.”
“Like, y’all don’t even know. I cussed his a** out when the album dropped, cause you know, I’m like ‘bruh, don’t put this song on the album.’ [He’s] in charge of picking the songs and sh*t,” he explained. Metro chose to go against his wishes, putting the track on the LP regardless of his request. “I woke up to it in the morning,” Offset recalled. “I’m like, ‘man, this n***a put the song on the album!’” Obviously, Metro’s decision ended up working out in their favor, as the song went on to top the charts.
“I’ll never forget, like three days later,” he continued. “We number one on Apple. [He’s] like, ‘I told you, I do this sh*t!’” What do you think of Offset revealing that he wasn’t a fan of “Ric Flair Drip” at first? Are you surprised that he didn’t put much effort into recording the song? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Offset.
When it comes to powerhouse collaborations in hip-hop, few duos can match the dynamic energy of Rick Ross and Meek Mill. Since the early 2010s, these two prolific artists have joined forces on numerous tracks, leaving a lasting impact on the rap scene. Ross took Meek under his wing as one of the primary artists on MMG and cemented the label as a powerhouse. These days, the two are readying the release of their forthcoming joint project, Too Good To Be True, and recently shared the project’s tracklist. Led by the singles “Shaq & Kobe,” its remix with Dame Lillard and Shaq, as well as “Lyrical Eazy,” Too Good To Be True is already shaping up into the collaborative project that we’ve been longing for.
Ahead of the release of Too Good To Be True, we decided to highlight 7 of their collaborations that are worth revisiting. In no particular order, these 7 songs have helped form the foundation that serves as the launching pad for their upcoming project. Check it out below.
One of the earliest and most impactful collaborations between Rick Ross and Meek Mill was the 2011 hit, “Ima Boss.” This high-energy anthem not only solidified Meek Mill’s presence in the rap game but also showcased the seamless partnership between the two artists. Furthermore, Meek Mill’s fiery delivery and Ross’s authoritative presence combine to create a track that remains a staple in hip-hop playlists.
“Tupac Back”
Released in the same year as “Ima Boss,” “Tupac Back” is another track that stands out in their catalog. Serving as the lead single for MMG’s debut compilation, Self Made Vol. 1, Rick Ross and Meek Mill pay homage to the legendary rapper Tupac Shakur. Moreover, their clever wordplay and intense energy attempt to channel the spirit of Tupac, making it a memorable tribute to one of the greatest rappers of all time.
In 2014, Rick Ross and Meek Mill joined forces for “Off The Corner,” a gritty track that reflects their experiences transitioning from the streets to the rap game. The song was released as a loose single in the lead up to Meek Mill’s sophomore album, Dreams Worth More Than Money. The record captures their authenticity and the essence of their past while embracing their current success.
“So Sophisticated”
A highlight from God Forgives, I Don’t, “So Sophisticated” marked an elevation in their collaborative streak. The two rappers attack blistering production with ease, showcasing their lyrical prowess and chemistry. Additionally, this track showcases their ability to elevate the hip-hop game with their seamless partnership and captivating verses.
A gem from Meek Mill’s debut album, Dreams And Nightmares, “Believe It” quickly became a street anthem and an underrated cut off of the project. This track underscores the creative synergy between Rick Ross and Meek Mill. The two cleverly describe the drug trade, using two of the biggest pop stars of the time – Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber – as euphemisms for cocaine and heroin. The anthem exudes confidence and celebratory feelings, describing th As they trade verses, the two artists paint vivid pictures of their respective journeys, from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of success.
“Lamborghini Doors”
In 2017, Rick Ross released the album Rather You Than Me, which included the track “Lamborghini Doors” featuring Meek Mill and Anthony Hamilton. Although a number of entries on this list include the two tackling boisterous trap production, “Lamborghini Doors” leaned into the definitive Maybach Music Sound. The lush orchestral production, paired with Anthony Hamilton’s smooth vocals, allows the two to share introspective bars reflecting on their rising status.
“What’s Free”
From Meek Mill’s Championships, “What’s Free” is a standout track featuring not only Rick Ross but also the legendary Jay-Z. While it’s a collaboration between the three artists, it’s worth mentioning for the dynamic verses delivered by Ross and Meek. Their contributions complement Jay-Z’s legendary status, making it a track that captures the essence of freedom and success in the rap game.
The new NBA In-Season Tournament is getting a theme song courtesy of LL Cool J and The Roots. The song is a combination of Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” and The Roots’ “Here I Come” and will play during the special broadcasts for the tournament that will run through this month and next month. “I’ve been a fan of the NBA ever since I can remember, and it’s a real honor to have my record serving as the anthem for this monumental moment. I’m excited to see the energy of the song translate to the play on the court during the NBA In-Season Tournament,” Cool J said in a statement.
Meanwhile, it has also been revealed that head coaches will receive bonuses based on their performance in the tournament. According to ESPN, the winning coach will receive $500,000, the same as their players. The runner-up coach will get $250,000, semifinalists will get $100,000 and quarterfinalists will get $50,000. The tournament begins this weekend, with the Knicks facing the Bucks and the Mavericks taking on the Nuggets.
Meanwhile, Victor Wembanyama scored a career-high 38 points in the fifth game of his rookie season as the Spurs improved to 3-2 at the expense of the Suns. It was the second time this week that San Antonio has gotten the better of Phoenix. 10 of Wembanyama’s points came in the final 4:15 of the game, outscoring the entire Suns roster over that same period. Furthermore, the game marked Wembanyama’s second NBA double-double as he also notched 10 rebounds in the 132-121 win. Additionally, the French rookie knew exactly what to say when asked if he felt he was a clutch player. “It’s a requirement if we’re being ambitious,” he told reporters.
However, Wemby also showed some astute insight as he mulled the win. “Every game is different. We got our third win. Every game we try to find the spots that we need to hurt them. Today, it might have been in this way. Tomorrow, it will be someone else. That is how great teams work. If we want to be great, we need to play with everyone,” he explained. His performance comes in as the third-best performance by a rookie in history. David Robinson holds the top two spots, with 40 and 39-point performances in his 1990 rookie season.
It’s no secret that Sexyy Red only continues to rise to the top. She’s worked alongside Nicki Minaj, Drake, Summer Walker and more, and now has yet another exciting collab in her future. The “Pound Town” performer recently took to Twitter, where she responded to some fans suggesting that she work alongside Kevin Gates. The controversial rapper is known for his antics, and some social media users think the two of them would make a great team.
Luckily for them, she appears to agree, as Kevin Gates teased a collab they have in the works on TikTok recently. She responded to one fan who wrote “Sexyy Red and Kevin Gates” with some cheeky emojis, tagging Gates in the process. She also reposted another fan’s Tweet saying something similar, and adding that the pair-up would be as raunchy as one could imagine. “We need a song with Kevin gates & Sexyy red,” they wrote. “Cause ik they both gon be saying the most unprovoked freakiest sh*t.”
It doesn’t sound like listeners looking for something explicit will be disappointed. In Gates’ TikTok, he’s seen meditating in a peaceful garden while the racy bars wash over him. “Im Beyond Turnt,” he also revealed. It’s unclear when the collab will drop, however, it’s safe to say that it’ll be wild. Fans in his comments section can’t wait for the full version to be released.
Kevin Gates also has a new album on the way, The Ceremony. He dropped off the first single from it last week, “God Slippers.” Gates has yet to announce an official release date for the LP. When it comes to collaborating, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj rarely miss. The two have dominated the industry ever since Wayne signed Minaj to Young Money back in 2009. For over a decade, Wayne and Nicki have only strengthened their working relationship and chemistry on wax. They remain as tight as ever and continue to publicly admire each other’s accomplishments. Most recently, Nicki Minaj recently delayed the release of her next release, Pink Friday 2 partially out of respect for her mentor and Young Money boss’s upcoming album with 2 Chainz, Welcome 2 Collegrove.
Over the years, the two have accumulated a number of multi-platinum and chart-topping hits, ranging from their individual discographies to label compilations and their many iconic features. Today, we will be looking back at Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj’s seven biggest collaborations to date. Ranked by chart positions and gold and platinum certifications, take a look at the list below.
This bonus track from The Pinkprint sees the union of the Young Money holy trinity: Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Drake. Over a glamorous beat from Nineteen85, the three each display their unique styles, starting their verses with “thinking out loud.” Drake plays it cool, Nicki flexes her impressive résumé, and Wayne is as goofy as ever. Out of their many collaborations, “Truffle Butter” is the best demonstration of their lyrical skills. The song peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is currently certified gold in the UK.
6. “Tapout” (2013)
The lead single from Cash Money’s Rich Gang album, “Tapout” saw Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Future, and Mack Maine join the Birdman-led track. The song had all the right characteristics for a hit record, including a hook from Future, as well as standout verses from Wayne and Nicki. While Wayne’s relationship with Birdman would eventually sour during the following year, “Tapout” and the Rich Gang era can be remembered as an all-star collaboration. The song is currently certified gold.
“Take It To the Head” arrived at a time when a DJ Khaled song with any combination of Young Money members was a guaranteed hit. The collaboration between Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, along with Rick Ross and Chris Brown marked yet another banger for the hitmaker. The unforgettable chorus from Chris and a slick verse from Ross set up Wayne and Nicki to take over with standout contributions. Minaj is commanding while Wayne keeps things humorous. The gold single peaked at No. 6 on both the Hot Rap Songs and the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs charts.
4. “Knockout” (2010)
One of Wayne and Nicki’s earliest collaborations, “Knockout” comes from Lil Wayne’s rock-centric album, Rebirth. Much like the rest of the album, the track sees Wayne crooning an auto-tune-soaked melody over a pop-punk instrumental. “Hey barbie,” he sings to Nicki, who sings the song’s chorus. She also raps in her verse, emulating the pop-rock stars of the 2000s. “Knockout” was Nicki Minaj’s very first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 44. It was certified platinum in 2020.
3. “High School” (2012)
“High School” is Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj’s most popular collaboration that solely features the two of them. Over cinematic production from Boi-1da and T-Minus, Nicki continues the narrative that started with her song, “Hood Story,” along with an extremely catchy chorus. In his verse, Lil Wayne provides his signature amusing punchlines. “High School” peaked at No. 64 on the Billboard Hot 100, but performed well in other countries as well, including The UK, Ireland, and Australia. It was certified 2x platinum in 2022.
In addition to “Truffle Butter,” Nicki Minaj recruited Lil Wayne and Drake for The Pinkprint on “Only.” The hit single consists of a simplistic yet ominous beat, over which Nicki refutes claims that she slept with Wayne or Drake. The two also debunk those rumors, although playfully flirt with Minaj. Additionally, Chris Brown contributed a catchy chorus for the hit single, which now sits at 3x platinum status. “Only” peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
1. “BedRock” (2009)
It would be impossible to discuss Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj’s biggest collaborations without mentioning Young Money. The label’s biggest single, “BedRock,” featured not just Wayne and Nicki, but other members of the collective, including Drake, Tyga, Jae Millz, and more. The song served as an introduction to the up-and-coming members of the label but resulted in a massive hit single. In addition to Wayne and his signees, Lloyd also contributes a tongue-in-cheek chorus that references The Flintstones. While not necessarily a Lil Wayne or Nicki Minaj song, “BedRock” stands as their biggest collaboration as it is 7x platinum in the U.S. and platinum in the UK. It peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100. It gave fans a glimpse of what was to come from Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj’s collaborative relationship.
Mozzy is back with another new track, “Ain’t On Sh*t.” This time, the Cali-born rapper’s teamed up with Chicago MC Lil Zay Osama, who lends a menacing verse to the energetic single. The song serves as a departure from his last, soulful October release, “If I Die Right Now.” Laid-back and boastful, “Ain’t On Sh*t” leans away from introspection and into the examination of others, repeatedly begging the question, “Fuck wrong with these n***as?”
Lil Zay Osama isn’t the only fellow rapper Mozzy’s teamed up with as of late, however. In September, Mozzy also joined forces with Stunna Girl for her unapologetic single, “Wake Dis Sh*t Up.” He also dropped an EP in April of this year, Kollect Kall. The six-song offering includes features from YFN Lucci, Baby Money, E MOZZY, and Celly Ru.
“Ain’t On Sh*t” also comes along with a fun accompanying music video, which shows the duo spitting bars in a lofty brick building. Sketch-like details and dramatic edits bring their verses to life. Clearly, Mozzy’s been eager to get back in studio since returning home from his 10-month prison stay in May.
Just ahead of his arrest, he unveiled his last full-length effort, Survivor’s Guilt. The LP includes various features from the likes of Roddy Ricch, Shordie Shordie, EST Gee, Blac Youngsta, and Moneybagg Yo. It was also his first release under Yo Gotti’s imprint lebl, CMG. What do you think of Mozzy’s new track “Ain’t On Sh*t” with Lil Zay Osama? Will you be adding the new song to your playlist? Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s new album is said to debut in November at a recently-announced “multi-stadium listening event.” While fans have been anxiously awaiting new details of the upcoming project, it looks like Ye’s been spending time with some of his other musician friends. Recently, he was spotted hanging out at his villa in Italy with Metro Boomin, who may or may not be assisting him with the LP.
While this is only a rumor for now, the award-winning producer compounded speculation today when he dropped a cryptic Tweet. “¥$¥$¥$,” he wrote, seemingly referencing the duo’s collaborative project. It’s safe to say that adding Metro Boomin to the mix would be a welcome surprise for fans. They’ve also joined forces in the past, so it doesn’t seem to be off the table.
Metro Boomin Posts About Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign Collab
His possible contribution to Ye and Ty Dolla Sign’s new project isn’t the only exciting thing Metro Boomin has on the way, however. He’s had fans eager to hear a collaborative album with Future for quite some time. Luckily, it appears as though it could be closer than ever. He took to social media last week to respond to a post about hip hop’s “current slump,” claiming that his collab with Future is what the genre needs to overcome it.
This only built further anticipation for the project, which has yet to get an official release date. As for Ye and Ty Dolla Sign, they were scheduled to host a massive show in Italy later this week, however, it appears as though it could be called off. According to sources who spoke with Billboard Italy, the eagerly-anticipated show is “very unlikely” to happen. What do you think about Metro Boomin posting about Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s upcoming album? What do you think he’s alluding to? Megan Thee Stallion says Cardi B provides her with an unprecedented level of freedom when they are collaborating with one another. Speaking with Billboard for a recent interview, Megan reflected on her working relationship with Cardi. The two recently connected for the single, “Bongos.”
“She literally just let me do me,” Meg explained. “This is the second time she’s sent me a song, and I’ll be like, ‘Friend, can I do whatever I want to do on the beat? I’m finna put two verses on here, alright?’ She always let me do whatever I want to do creatively.”
Megan Thee Stallion & Cardi B Takeover The MTV VMAs
She continued: “I just appreciate that so much because sometimes people try to give you a direction and they want you to do what they want you to do, but she’s like ‘Megan, what you think?’ She’ll ask me what I think about this song like, ‘OK, how you think we could make it better? What should we do next? Just do whatever you wanna do and then we’ll piece it together.’” Megan also noted that the two have become friends, despite Cardi being “shy” when they first met. In the time since, she’s gotten to know the “the real her.”
Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion Collaborate On Bongos
Prior to working on “Bongos,” Megan and Cardi also teamed up for the 2020 hit single, “WAP.” That song went on to reach the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. The release of their latest collaboration comes as both Cardi and Megan gear up for the release of new albums. Megan recently parted ways with record label 1501 Certified Entertainment and looks to drop her first project since, while Cardi will be sharing her long-awaited sophomore album in 2024. Be on the lookout for further updates on new music from the artists on HotNewHipHop.
J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive is among the most beloved hip-hop albums of the 2010s decade, and for good reason. His excellent performances, deep but relatable themes, engaging instrumentation, and sequencing made for an eye-opening experience for many rap fans. In addition, it started a pretty common meme online: “Cole went platinum with no features.” It’s a true statement, one that the North Carolina MC’s repeated multiple times, and one that people sometimes clown stans for since they can’t shut up about it. However, his manager Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad recently revealed that said meme almost never happened.
“Bumping FHD all day,” Ib quote-tweeted an old anniversary post for the project this week (its anniversary is on December 9). “One of the best albums of the decade in any genre. And to think, we were trying to get Mos Def to do the ”03 Adolescence’ hook and Future to do the end of ‘No Role Modelz’ but it never worked out. Would have ruined all the platinum with no features jokes [various crying-laughing emojis].” All in all, these a pretty wild possibilities to consider in hindsight.
Of course, Mos Def and J. Cole sounds like a match made in lyrical, dense, but still accessible and down-to-earth hip-hop heaven. Especially for a track as emotionally potent and narrative as “’03 Adolescence,” it would’ve made for a great link-up. What’s harder to imagine is how Future’s auto-crooned toxic street raps could’ve matched up on the Dreamville boss’ “No Role Modelz”- which interestingly aged poorly as of late thanks to the Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith drama. Sure, the song already has a trap-inspired beat, but emotively and chemistry-wise, it sounds a bit mismatched on paper. If you’re in that boat right now, just think about Fewtch singing “Don’t save her, she don’t want to be saved” and you’ll be convinced in due time.
Meanwhile, what other features would you have liked to see on 2014 Forest Hills Drive? Would Mos Def and Hendrix fit like a glove on these cuts, elsewhere on the tracklist, or not at all on the record? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below.
