Selena Gomez Responds To Viral Reaction To Chris Brown’s Nomination

Last night MTV hosted the VMAs and the cameras absolutely couldn’t get enough of Selena Gomez. All night they panned to the actress and singer to get her reactions to whatever was going on. That created funny moments like her confused face and later covering up her ears during Olivia Rodrigo’s performance. But while a lot of her reactions seemed to be in good faith, one in particular caught fans attention for feeling particularly authentic.

During the Best R&B Award the cameras were once again tuned in on Gomez. One of the nominees was Chloe’s track “How Does It Feel” from her debut solo album In Pieces earlier this year. The song features Chris Brown, which got Chloe in some pretty hot water. Despite the controversy he brings with him everywhere he goes, the song received a nomination. But when it’s nomination was being announced the cameras just happened to catch Selena Gomez reacting to it. In the short video she visibly frowns as soon as Brown’s name is called, just to return to clapping for other nominees after. Check out the short viral clip below.

Selena Gomez Won’t Be A Meme

Now according to TMZ Selena is responding to the quick meme status of her reaction. She took to her Instagram story to share a short message to fans. “I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love,” the brief statement reads. She doesn’t deny her reaction to Brown’s nomination, simply expressing her dissatisfaction with it becoming a meme.

Recently, Selena Gomez returned with her new song “Single Soon.” As soon as the track was released fan speculation swirled that the break-up anthem could be talking about The Weeknd, who she famously dated. She quickly shut down any of that speculation with an Instagram comment though. What do you think of Selena Gomez’s response to fans memeing her viral reaction video? Selena Gomez Couldn’t Help But Make A Face When Hearing A Chris Brown Nomination At The 2023 MTV VMAs

Earlier this year, Chlöe faced (and later addressed) criticism for collaborating with the controversial Chris Brown on her album In Pieces, on the song “How Does It Feel.” Regardless, the collab found some success and landed itself a nomination at last night’s (September 12) 2023 MTV VMAs. That doesn’t mean everybody was happy about it though: As Selena Gomez sat in the Video Music Awards audience, she couldn’t help but make her feelings known.

As the nominees in the Best R&B category were announced, an audience camera was fixed on Selena Gomez (and “Calm Down” collaborator Rema seated next to her). Nominated in that category was “How Does It Feel” and as that was read, Gomez’s demeanor noticeably changed. Before, she had a subtle smile and was holding her hands together up in front of her, as though waiting to applaud. When she heard Brown’s name, though, she put her hands on her lap, looked down, frowned, and made a clear grimace. When Yung Bleu and Nicki Minaj’s “Love In The Way” was announced next, though, Gomez clapped as her smile returned.

SZA’s “Shirt” ended up winning that award, by the way. Also nominated aside from the aforementioned were Alicia Keys’ “Stay” Feat. Lucky Daye; Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, 21 Savage, and Diddy’s “Creepin’ (Remix)”; and Toosii’s “Favorite Song.”

Meanwhile, Gomez and Rema’s “Calm Down” was up for three awards and won one of them, in the Best Afrobeats category. This also isn’t the first time in recent days Gomez has drawn some attention for reacting from the audience.

50 Cent Compares Chris Brown To A Modern Day Michael Jackson

50 Cent has been no stranger to controversy recently. The rapper could potentially be in legal trouble after he recently threw a microphone into a crowd in frustration. He was upset with repeated audio issues holding back his performance, but the microphone he threw ended up hitting a woman in the crowd. Since the incident, he’s faced quite a bit of public backlash. He’s also become the subject of a battery investigation surrounding the incident.

Today on his Instagram, 50 Cent waded into even more controversy. He shared a painting that depicts Michael Jackson handing his crown off to Chris Brown. In the caption, he doubled down on praising the controversial R&B singer. “I like this, I want a painting like this in black and white. @chrisbrownofficial is really the best sh*t we got out here, but nobody will say it so I gotta say it,” the caption reads. Fans in the comments quickly expressed their disagreement. “Bro this ain’t it, your smoking crack,” the top comment on the post reads. “Michael Jackson, still the king of pop,” another agrees. Check out the full post and all the fan reactions below.

50 Cent Says Chris Brown Is “Really The Best Sh*t We Got”

Over the weekend, Lil Wayne also reportedly left a 50 Cent show after being pushed backstage. Wayne was set to make a surprise appearance during the concert but after the incident, he reportedly stormed out. 50 addressed both the Wayne incident and the microphone throw at a later show.

The series of controversies comes after a pretty prosperous few months for 50 leading up to the mic throw. He made waves with all sorts of rap fans for a recent team-up with Nas. He appeared on the rapper’s new album Magic 2 where they collaborated on a song for the first time in more than two decades. What do you think of 50 Cent’s claim that Chris Brown is a modern-day Michael Jackson? Let us know in the comment section below.

Ciara & Chris Brown Show “How We Roll” On Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update

Now that August is officially upon us, it’s becoming increasingly evident that the final weeks of summer are slipping away. It’s always hard to see the long days slip away into long, dark nights, but with the cool weather typically comes an increase in the number of songs on our weekly R&B Season updates. On Friday (August 4), yet another collection of new arrivals hit DSPs, and we’ve rounded up our favourites for today’s playlist. At the top of the list is the latest from Usher, “Good Good,” for which he connected with both Summer Walker and 21 Sav.

Following that comes another noteworthy collaboration from Ciara and Chris Brown. The longtime friends have connected plenty of times over the years, and the former announced that she’s got a new EP on the way later this month that could potentially hear from other R&B friends. Chloe Bailey has been holding it down on the charts for her and Halle this year as the younger of the two sisters focused on The Little Mermaid, but this weekend she shared her debut solo single, “Angel,” which finds the 23-year-old bringing listeners to tears with her beautiful voice.

Ciara And Chris Brown Party Together On “How We Roll”

Two of the best R&B voices join forces once more on a new single. Ciara and Chris Brown have dropped their track “How We Roll,” and this is one that has been mentioned to us before. In April, Brown shared with his Instagram followers that he had some heat coming with Ciara and it is finally here. These two collaborated in 2009 with “Turntables” on Ciara’s album Fantasy Ride.

In the music video below, both crooners show off their dancing expertise as both of the parties they speak about in the music video, come together. They share a dance toward the end and it certainly had to have been a fun time shooting it. Both are singing, in harmony at times, about getting ready to get down and dirty with their partner. Furthermore, they express that it is their love and that they should not care about how other people view their relationship.

Stirring Up Controversy

As most music fans and people around the world know, Chris Brown has a troubling past that still comes up. For example, he was supposed to perform at the AMA last year during the Michael Jackson Tribute. But, it can be assumed that it was due to the situation surrounding Rihanna. Couple that with Jackson’s situation he was involved with, and it most likely was not the best choice for the producers to have that happen. Twitter users were certainly not afraid to sound off on Ciara making music with Brown again saying, “Ewww, why is Ciara platforming Chr*s Br*wn knowing he’s an abuser?”

What are your overall thoughts on the song? Do you think that Ciara should not work with Chris Brown based on other fans’ reactions? Make sure to tell us what you think in the comments section below. As always, stay tuned into HNHH for all the news around music and new songs.

Quotable Lyrics:

Jump up in a brand new ride, BM-dub, we ridin’, baby (Yeah)
I ain’t gonna tell you lies
