LaMelo Ball Speaks Out Following $100K Fine Over Homophobic Post-Game Comment

Charlotte Hornets superstar LaMelo Ball was fined $100,000 by the NBA this past weekend and for good reason. Following a game, Ball said the term “no homo.” Overall, a simple “pause” probably would have sufficed. However, he ended up taking it way too far. Although there were plenty of fans who were not offended, the league has to protect its image. Consequently, they came through with a well-deserved fine.

Following the fine, Hornets head coach Charles Lee spoke out on what happened. As he explains, LaMelo is very apologetic. “As an organization, that’s obviously not something that we condone. Our standards and what is required of our players in our environment that we create is really important to us,” Lee said. “I spoke to Melo and he’s obviously very apologetic from what I’ve seen since I’ve been around him. He loves everyone and he’s a joy to have around in the facility, and that’s not typically how he operates.”

LaMelo Ball Made A Big Mistake

“He and I talked about the seriousness of the situation and how he needs to conduct himself going forward, he understands what’s going to be expected of him. I look forward to seeing him grow from this moment. We apologize for what happened,”Lee continued. “He and I talked about it and he definitely said, ‘going forward, I want to be better and I don’t want to see that happen.’ So, for somebody to use those words and say it out of his mouth, we will make sure that we hold him accountable to that.”

This is a teachable moment for LaMelo and we hope he learns from it. So far this season, he has been playing incredibly well. You never want to see a young player squander that because of a poor judgment call. Only time will tell whether or not Ball truly changes his ways.

LaMelo Ball, Charlotte Hornets Sued after Allegedly Driving Over 11-Year-Old’s Foot

LaMelo Ball Sidelined Up to 2 Weeks with Ankle Sprain

LaMelo Ball, the rising NBA star of the Charlotte Hornets, is facing a lawsuit along with his team after allegedly driving over an 11-year-old fan’s foot. The lawsuit, filed by Tamaria McRae on behalf of her son Angell Joseph, claims that Bal injured Joseph while fans were seeking autographs following the October event, according to Jason Stoogenke of WEOCTV.com.

McRae recounted the moments leading up to the incident, saying, “Angel was like, LaMelo, I love you. I love you, sign, my… Give me your autograph. Can you sign it for me? “She added, “I just seen my son kind of go down and I thought maybe he had dropped something, “referring to the moment Bal allegedly drove off and struck Joseph‘s foot, resulting in a broken foot for the Young fan.

The family’s lawyer, Cameron Debrun, explained that no claim was filed with Ball’s insurance company to cover the medical expenses because the police support did not include the NBA player’s insurer or his name. Debrun stated that without this crucial information, their only options were both Bal and the Charlotte Hornets.

The Charlotte Hornets are included in the lawsuit because the family believes that more safety measures should be in place to protect fans near the players.

LaMelo Ball, 22 is known for his All-Star play on the court. However, injuries have pled his recent seasons. He appeared in only 22 games this past season due to a right ankle injury, averaging 23.9 points and eight assists per game while shooting , an impressive 35.5% from the three-point range. But, his injuries have limited him to 58 games over the past two seasons, stalling the momentum he built as the NBA rookie of the year in a 2020–21 season and an All-Star the following year. Good luck to all parties involved.

LaMelo Ball Has Been Sued For Allegedly Running Over A Fan’s Foot

LaMelo Ball has had a rough couple years. The NBA superstar has struggled to stay healthy on the court, and now, he’s been dragged into a potential court case involving an injured fan. On May 21, a lawsuit was filed against Ball for an incident dating back to October 2023. The lawsuit was filed by Tamaria McRae after an incident in which the athlete allegedly damaged the foot of her son Angell. The news broke via WSOC-TV reporter Jason Stoogenke.

Tamaria claimed that Angell McRae was waiting to greet members of the Charlotte Hornets during the team’s annual Teal and Purple Day. LaMelo Ball is Angell’s favorite player, and he approached Ball with the intention of getting an autograph. Tamaria claims that Ball rejected the request for an autograph and promptly sped off without giving Angell so much as a second look. “[Angell] was like, ‘LaMelo, I love you. I love you, sign my … give me your autograph. Can you sign it for me?,’” she recalled.

LaMelo Ball Reportedly Ignored The Fan’s Autograph Request

LaMelo Ball got in his car and sped away. According to Tamaria, however, he did not give Angell enough time to get out of his way. The 11-year-old’s foot was allegedly smashed by Ball’s car and subsequently shattered. “I just seen my son kind of go down and I thought maybe he’d dropped something,” Tamaria recalled. “When you see your children hurt, it hurts you. It’s been rough. It’s been real rough. I mean like I’m a strong person. This broke me. This right here, it really did.”

Tamaria claimed that the incident not only affected her son physically, but psychologically as well. “For a while, I couldn’t even recognize who my child was,” she told WSOC-TV. “Because, like depression, not being able to go outside and play.” Tamaria tried to file a claim with Ball’s insurance, but the NBA star’s insurance was apparently missing crucial information.

As such, Mrs. McCrae is suing both LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets organization. The family’s lawyer, Cameron DeBrun, assert that they are not trying to capitalize on Ball’s celebrity. “I’d say if that was the case, we would have done this a long time ago,” he noted. “They had no desire to seek legal action. They wanted healing.”

Kai Jones Bad Mouths His Hornets Teammates On Instagram

Sometimes teammates beef. It’s a fact of life in the sports world. However, Hornets center Kai Jones took that to a whole new level earlier this week. Jones took offense to several fans saying that he was about to be dethroned as the starting center for the ailing NBA franchise. In response, Jones took unprompted shots at the rest of the team’s center options. First in his crosshairs was Mark Jones, whom the Hornets drafted in 2022. “Show me a video of [Mark Williams] pulling up…going left and hitting it. Anywhere…in college…show one,” Jones demanded of the fans. Williams played well down the stretch as he began to get starts in garbage time games at season’s end.

However, Jones also went after third-string center Nick Richards, who fans were using to troll Jones as well. “I’m more assertive with the ball. I can read myself,” Jones argued. All of this comes as fans and experts eye Jones as one of the weak links in a slowly developing Hornets core. “There’s no more time for excuses. He needs to show some signs of improvement, especially with the emergence of Mark Williams…and Nick Richards, a [2020] second-round pick [out of Kentucky], outperforming Jones last season,” Nicholas Mullick of All Hornets wrote of Jones.

Is Jones’ Job In Danger?

Despite his self-proclamation that his future is in Charlotte and that his role as starter is safe, Kai Jones is likely feeling a little insecure right now. ESPN no longer lists him as the Hornets’ starting center, listing Williams there instead. Additionally, Jones is nowhere close to being the team’s starting power forward, another position is also been slotted into in the past. Unfortunately, Jones just hasn’t done enough to lock down that starting center spot. Maybe he will open camp as the starting 5 but it’s likely to be a positional competition for the role.

Furthermore, while the team’s pickings are slim, people are already hyping LaMelo Ball and Williams as one of the young duos in the league to watch this season. Factor in second-overall pick Brandon Miller and Charlotte is very clearly building a young core that doesn’t include Jones. While the start of the NBA season is still around six weeks away, they are likely going to be a very important six weeks for the team. J. Cole’s Manager, Ibrahim Hamad, Salutes Cole on Officially Becoming Part-Owner of Charlotte Hornets

J. Cole's Manager, Ibrahim Hamad, Salutes Cole on Officially Becoming Part-Owner of Charlotte Hornets

J. Cole is officially a part-owner of the Charlotte Hornets. Cole is a member of the ownership group, led by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin, that collaborated on the $3 billion price to acquire the team from former owner Michael Jordan.

Hitting Instagram, Cole’s manager Ibrahim “Ib” Hamad celebrated the official stamp the deal received from the league office.

“Official,” Ib wrote. “Congrats to my dawg @JColeNC.”

Recently, on his collaborative single “Passport Bros” with Bas, J. Cole rapped about his new status as team owner.

The news just dropped, I’m a partial owner
What can I say?
Tell Coach Cliff to suit me up and I’ll play, I’m winning

– J. Cole on “Passport Bros”

Coach Cliff is a reference to Steve Clifford, who currently coaches the Charlotte Hornets.

According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA’s board of governors approved the sale this past Sunday. The vote was 29-1, with the only opposing vote being New York Knicks owner James Dolan. Schnall and Plotkin will be the governors of the franchise.

J. Cole’s New Verse References Hornet’s Ownership, Desire To Play In The NBA

J. Cole loves basketball. In 2013 Cole told Sports Illustrated that “Sports is where it started for me. It parallels my life. Rap is such a competitive thing. That’s why I have to watch sports. I got to keep up. It’s my life in just another form.” After hooping at Terry Sanford High School, Cole tried out as a walk-on at St. John’s in Queens. He has also released a signature shoe with Puma, played in the All-Star Celebrity Game, and appeared on the cover of NBA 2K.

There have been a lot of basketball stories relating to J. Cole in recent months. Per Miami Heat Assistant Coach Caron Butler. “He had reached out to me and told me he had a very, very talented guy that was just wrecking shop up here in North Carolina and he had just got released from the Hornets,” Butler told The Charlotte Observer. He continued. “Obviously, we were still trying to improve on our talent. He reached out to me and I just invited him to an open scrimmage in the summer and from that point on he really earned his way on.” Cole was also announced as part of the ownership group that recently purchased the Charlotte Hornets.

J. Cole Hints At NBA Aspirations

Recently, Cole featured on Bas’ Afrobeat track “Passport Bros”. The North Carolina rapper’s verse included several references to his basketball connections. “Shots of Clase, me and lil Bassy in Barcelona. The news just dropped, I’m a partial owner, what can I say? Tell Coach Cliff to suit me up and I’ll play, I’m winning. We at Tape Mayfair, you can’t get in.”

There’s a lot going on in these few lines so let’s break it down. “I’m a partial owner,” is obviously a reference to Cole’s aforementioned place in the Hornets’ ownership group. Meanwhile, “Coach Cliff” is a reference to Hornets head coach Steve Clifford. Finally, we have “Tape Mayfair”, which is a reference to the incredibly exclusive “Tape London” nightclub. While it’s unlikely that Cole is about to become the NBA’s first-ever player-owner, especially with his GM’s playoff aspirations, it’s a sign of just how much the opportunity means to him. But who knows, maybe another bad season from the Hornets will see them make a surprising move in free agency.
