DJ Envy Admits He Didn’t Want To Work With Charlamagne Originally

DJ Envy says that he initially didn’t want to work with Charlamagne on The Breakfast Club, due to how many times the radio host had been fired from other jobs. Envy explained his original reluctance during a new interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game. Speaking on the podcast, both Envy and Charlamagne reflected on the early days of their award-winning radio show.

“I remember even when they brought Charlamagne in I didn’t wanna work with him,” Envy began. “I’m like this n***a got fired six times.” Charlamagne then interjected to correct his co-host with, “Four.” Envy continued: “Whatever it was, I’m like, ‘You want me to work with this n***a?’ At the time I had two kids, I’m like, ‘No!’”

In the years since launching the now-iconic show, they’ve since made their way into the Radio Hall Of Fame. Charlamagne reflected on the honor in a post on Instagram in 2020. “One day people will look back and give us respect for how we impacted the culture the past decade. I know it’s hard to show love when folks are still active, I get it, I get it,” he wrote. “I’m sure when we get a documentary or something the flowers will come but In the meantime. All Praises and Glory Due To God and sincere Thanks and Gratitude to everyone who listens to us on the radio, via podcast, YouTube, however you consume your breakfast, THANK YOU for being a part of our club.”

Additionally, the group recently announced that The Breakfast Club will begin airing on BET and VH1 as part of a new partnership deal with iHeartRadio. “BET has been the home of so many cultural institutions, like Rap City and 106 & Park, that have shaped a generation,” Charlamagne said in a statement. “Those shows laid the foundation for The Breakfast Club to stand on and grow into the cultural institution that we have become. We look forward to carrying on the tradition.” Envy added: “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to showcase The Breakfast Club on BET. I love what the new BET is doing!”

Charlamagne Tha God Opens Up About Past Beef With Busta Rhymes

Charlamagne Tha God has had his fair share of beef. Whether it’s Lil Kim, Chanel Westcoast, or the infamous Bird Man Uncle Charla has never strayed away from standing on business. However, rarely do we see a radio personality admit they were wrong. In a recent interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Charlamagne opened up about his beef with rap legend Busta Rhymes. In July 2012, following the BET Awards, the two squared up at a party in Los Angeles, with the altercation making its way to headlines.

Not only that, photos of the incident surfaced online. The pics show the radio personality and Busta both being separated by their camps. According to Charlamagne Tha God, alongside his Breakfast Club co-host DJ Envy, he admitted he was being disrespectful as he broke down the ordeal. “Who ran down on me? Busta, Ma$e. Yeah, Busta ran down on me,” Charlamagne told the podcasters. “I was being disrespectful.” “But you know what it was, though, I’ll say this: I wanted to win so bad when we got The Breakfast Club anybody could get it.” While Charlamagne is no stranger to keeping that same energy, he had a different tune regarding his run-in with Busta Rhymes.

Additionally, Charlamagne Tha God admits his wrongdoing and goes into more detail as to what happened that night at the party. “So there was some people, and I apologize for this all the time, just because we have to hold our own icons in high regard. If we don’t respect our OGs, then nobody will,” he said in the interview. Charlamagne goes on to say the issues started when he gave the rap icon Donkey of the Day for rapping over Ye and Jay-Z’s “Otis” beat. Moreover, the radio personality admitted the freestyle was hard (it really was), he was just being an asshole and gave Busta Donkey of the Day for no reason.

“We was at Melanie Fiona’s birthday party in L.A., it was my birthday. I’m there drunk as shit, I see Busta walk in.” Charlamagne Tha God tells Gillie and Wallo. Along with that, he goes on to say that him and Busta share some choice words. After calling the Hip-Hop legend “wack” the pair had to be separated quickly. However, Charlamagne Tha God has apologized and made things right. Who say’s men can’t come together and squash beef with a simple conversation?

Podcasting is becoming more of a force within the media industry than ever, and it seems like two renowned hosts are leading the charge. Moreover, Gillie and Wallo recently had Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy of The Breakfast Club on their podcast, Million Dollaz Worth Of Game. At one point in their conversation, the podcasters show the duo a supposed deal that they walked away from. After seeing the details, Charlamagne remarked how Gillie and Wallo are the highest-paid Black podcasters in the game right now. Given their wide outreach, vast knowledge, and that the duo are great conversationalists, it’s not hard to see why.

Furthermore, Gillie and Wallo often spark huge discussion in the hip-hop world with their profound, but sometimes criticized content. After all, the industry rewards ruffling feathers now more than ever. For example, the pair caught flack for letting J. Prince slam Offset during their interview with him. That feud saw a lot of attention online and, despite people’s qualms, they brought it to light in an impactful way through letting Prince speak his mind. Whether that was a beneficial choice in the long run of the culture remains to be seen.

Him and The Breakfast Club at large have been key leaders in the media for a long time, and he’s also one to innovate and adapt to the times his work brings about. Charlamagne Tha God Wants Sexual Assault Case Dismissed

Charlamagne Tha God recently made moves to attempt to dismiss a sexual assault case against him. Not only that, but the media personality alleges that he has forensic proof that his DNA did not match a testing kit used in this trial. For those unaware, Charlamagne stands accused of sexual assault, battery, and defamation, charges brought up by Jessica Reid. Moreover, she claimed in 2022 that The Breakfast Club host assaulted her at a South Carolina party in 2001, unearthing a near-20-year-old arrest warrant in 2018. Said warrant brought forth accusations of “criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the 2nd degree, for an incident that allegedly occurred the month before.”

In addition, it detailed that Charlamagne Tha God, who was 22 at the time, “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously engage[d] in penile/vaginal intercourse with a fifteen-year-old female child.” However, the radio icon continues to deny any and all wrongdoing. “Jessica Nicole Reid has come forward countless times on social and other media… despite the undisputed facts that” the testing kit she took did not bring up his DNA.

“[Reid] has persisted in broadly disseminating her unsubstantiated claims, ignoring that the South Carolina Solicitor in 2018 declined her request to re-open the case due to a lack of evidence while confirming that no basis existed to bring sexual assault charges against Charlamagne,” the supposed motion to dismiss reads. “Witnesses have attested to the fact that Charlamagne had already left the party when the alleged assault occurred.” Given this alleged falsehood, the 44-year-old simply wants all charges against him dismissed. Still, it will be up to the court to determine whether evidence provided is sufficient for a full trial.

Meanwhile, Charlamagne Tha God recently commented on 6ix9ine’s attack, stating that it was bound to happen at some point. “I mean, you can’t escape the energy you put out there,” he remarked. “You’ve been taunting people for years, telling people to come see you, SMD, inviting that violence to happen to you. Eventually, it will. I see a lot of people laughing, but this isn’t a time to laugh. This is a time to learn. Chlöe Exposes ‘The Breakfast Club’s DJ Envy For Not Knowing Her Songs

Chlöe is officially over internet trolls ruining her fun. As Charlamagne Tha God put it when she visited Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club show this morning, “digital dickheads” have been getting her down — but lately, she’s been fighting back. “Come at me bro,” she said.

Toward the end of the interview, though, after DJ Envy tried to shade Charlamagne for not downloading Chlöe’s debut album In Pieces, she had to drag him, too. “Did you download the album?” she questioned him. “I streamed it,” he said.

The interrogation didn’t stop there, though. “Okay, so what was your favorite song?” Chlöe wondered. This stopped Envy in his tracks. And while he tried to plead out by saying that he’s played “Have Mercy” in the club, she pointed out that “Have Mercy” wasn’t included on the album proper, and again questioned what song from the album he played. “Caught!” she snarked.

Obviously, this was more of a comedic moment between the host and guest, but Chlöe has been making it a point lately to call out the trolls who have so much to say about her, but aren’t real fans. Her In Pieces tour backdrop puts some of the more common criticisms on display, allowing her the platform to strike back, and her interviews have found her confronting those people head on.

“The Breakfast Club” Heads To BET Following iHeartMedia Partnership

The Breakfast Club has undergone some major changes over the past few months. Angela Yee’s out and Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy have had a rotating roster of guest hosts, including Luenell, Ray J, and plenty of others. Though many felt as though the Breakfast Club would go under after Yee left, they continue to level up. The next move includes a transition to nationally syndicated TV via BET following a partnership with iHeart.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Breakfast Club will be joining the BET roster as one of the first bids to regain its prominence in daily programming. Beginning April 17th, 2023, BET will air an hour-long broadcast of the Power 105.1 series daily at 9 a.m.. This will mark BET’s first daily program since 106 & Park came to a close in 2014. President of entertainment enterprises at iHeartMedia John Sykes explained that the partnership with BET “will expand the radio show’s reach to millions more watching on this iconic television network.”

The Breakfast Club On BET

The Breakfast Club is no stranger to broadcast television, though their deal with Revolt TV ended in 2021. Now, the show will be syndicated to 90+ markets daily. “BET has been the home of so many cultural institutions, like Rap City and 106 & Park, that have shaped a generation,” said Charlamagne Tha God. “Those shows laid the foundation for The Breakfast Club to stand on and grow into the cultural institution that we have become. However, the announcement of the shift comes as the Paramount Global-owned network aims to sell BET. Over the past few weeks, we’ve heard folks like Byron Allen and Tyler Perry express interest, as well as Diddy, who already owns Revolt. A TV Anchor Who Was Fired After Using A Snoop Dogg Lyric Got Support From Whoopi Goldberg And Charlamagne Tha God

The campaign for a local TV anchor and meteorologist just grew by two. After news of Mississippi on-air talent Barbie Bassett might have been fired for using rapper Snoop Dogg’s lyric and signature catchphrase, “For sizzle, my nizzle,” social media was filled with debates. Following a segment discussing the mogul’s new wine venture, Bassett used the slang to close out the segment.

After hearing about the supposed firing through social media, Charlamagne Tha God and Whoopi Goldberg took to their respective platforms to vocalize their support for the fellow TV professional.

During Monday’s The Breakfast Club broadcast, the shock jock posed the question, “She can’t say ‘Fo shizzle, my nizzle?’” After thinking about the line further, he added, “Oh, I guess because it’s a derivative of n****,” before exclaiming, “She might not even know what nizzle means.”

The mogul said, “That’s the thing with hip-hop; hip-hop is so big and mainstream. Who can consume it, and who can’t? Who can repeat slang, and who can’t?”

Charlamagne has been in the hot seat several times for his remarks on-air and online. Pulling from his experience surrounded by controversy, he was sure to close the discussion with, “That’s not a fireable offense.”

Moved by the story, Goldberg, who was recently suspended for making “insensitive remarks” on air, also came to the anchor’s defense. As the headline was discussed amongst The View’s panelists, Goldberg passionately declared, “There has to be a book of stuff that nobody could ever say, ever, ever, ever. Include everything,” she said. “The things that change, ‘You can say this, but you can’t say that, but next week you might not be able to say this,’ it’s hard to keep up. It’s hard to keep up. And if you’re a person of a certain age, there’s stuff we do, and we say.”

Goldberg took it even further, adding, “Just because we’re on television doesn’t mean we know everything. We don’t know everything you’re not supposed to do. And if there is something someone says if you’re not going to give them the opportunity to explain why they said it, at least give them the grace of saying, ‘You know what? I’ve just been informed that I should not of done that,’ as opposed to, ‘You’re out.’”

Although the network has not released a formal statement, Bassett is no longer listed under the news team on its website. In addition, Bassett’s professional biography has also been scrubbed from the website.
