Shannon Sharpe is riding his becoming a viral meme all the way to the bank. “I need more of y’all to go put on that green outfit. Because total wine just ordered 2000 more cases,” Sharpe told Chad Johnson. Sharpe went viral for his tight-fitting green outfit and awkward walks as he shot a promotional video for his cognac brand.

Everyone from Antonio Brown to Donnell Rawlings got in on the mockery of Sharpe. However, despite his spot-on impression, Rawlings also took the time to defend Sharpe. Rawlings noted that while it was funny, Sharpe likely still feels the effects of his long playing career in the NFL. Sharpe played for 13 years and appeared in over 200 games while recording nearly 11,000 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Sharpe recently claimed that he made more money from his Katt Williams interview than any single year of his NFL career. The Club Shay Shay interview made at least $113,000 from YouTube AdSense and that’s before adding in additional exposure, sponsorships, and onward revenue. The most that Sharpe made in a single season in the NFL was in 2000 when he made $5M. Despite Sharpe’s Hall of Famer career, both his sixth-round draft pick status and inflation must be taken into account.

Elsewhere, Sharpe defended himself against criticism stemming from his now-viral interview with Williams. “I never said I was a journalist. I am not an interviewer. What I always say at the start of my show is that the person who is coming on the show is coming over for a conversation and a drink. I’m a conversationalist,” Sharpe explained to his Nightcap co-host Chad Johnson. Furthermore, Sharpe noted that his show gets the big-name guests that it does because Sharpe offers a “safe space” for them to come and talk.

Saweetie had some insightful thoughts on the rap beef between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj and how it ties into rap’s double standard for women, which she shared during an interview with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson.

The Bay Area rapper was a special guest for a live recording of Sharpe and Johnson’s YouTube show The Nightcap in Las Vegas, where she fielded Sharpe’s inquiry, “What is it with women and rap beef?”

“I always wonder why people even ask that,” she replied. “cause when the men have their beef it’s like, ‘Oh ok it’s a sport’ but when the women do it, it’s not seen as a sport. I feel like when there’s beef, it’s a sport, and you’re basically saying who’s the most witty and who’s the most clever.”

She also pointed out how Nicki and Meg are technically only really involved in a “beef” because, in her view, “If they was battle rapping then it wouldn’t be beef, they’d be going at each other on stage like this. But now that it’s singles, it’s brought a bigger audience to it.”

She also dismissed the idea of getting involved in a feud herself over subliminal disses like the ones between Meg and Nicki, saying, “If my name ain’t on it, then it’s not directed towards me. I feel like if you don’t say my name then you ain’t really ‘bout it.” (I feel like Saweetie’s a Jay-Z fan.)

Chad Johnson Defends Russell Wilson

Chad Johnson called the NFL a “dirty business” after more information about the rift between Russell Wilson and the Broncos emerged. “It’s a dirty game but at the end of your day, you have to play the game your way,” Johnson lamented. Furthermore, Johnson’s comments come after Wilson confirmed speculation that the Broncos benched him because he refused to make significant adjustments to his contract. “They definitely told me I was going to be benched and all that. That whole bye week I didn’t know what was going to be the case. I wasn’t going to remove the injury guarantee, this game is such a physical game, I’ve played 12 years and all that. And I want to be able to play, I want to be able to help this team win. Every time I step on the field it’s a physical game. I never play timid; I never play scared,” Wilson confirmed to reporters Friday.

Specifically, as Wilson alluded to, the Broncos had wanted the veteran QB to defer an injury guarantee to 2025. Under the current language of Wilson’s contract, he would receive $37M in guaranteed money if he wasn’t able to pass a physical in March 2024. Meanwhile, head coach Sean Payton, who cited the desire to trigger an “offensive spark” when benching Wilson, denied any knowledge of the contract dispute. “I’m not privy to any of those [discussions], I’m handling the football. I know how this has been written. But this decision is strictly what I believe gives us a chance to win No. 8. Hard decision [but there] will be no other reasons,” Payton said.

In short, the Broncos owe Wilson a lot of money. As a result, benching him potentially saves them having to pay out even more money. However, the team can’t simply just cut the veteran. There is a lot of guaranteed money baked into Wilson’s contract that the Broncos will owe him either way. If they do cut Wilson, they will also be hit with $85M in dead money. That would greatly impact the options that would be available to Payton and the team in replacing Wilson.

However, it’s clear that Wilson isn’t the answer that the Broncos were hoping he would be. While his play has declined somewhat, he is not a terrible quarterback by any means. Despite this, the bigger problem is that the Broncos as a team unite. They have not been able to put together a team with consistent chemistry. The answer might be to reset completely and use their projected 13th-overall pick to draft the best available quarterback. That is currently projected to be Michigan’s JJ McCarthy or Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. Meanwhile, Wilson will likely be able to find a team. Atlanta, New York (Giants), or New England may all be looking for a veteran QB. However, this is a story that is likely going to play out for the coming months.

Chad Johnson Makes MVP Case For Tyreek Hill

NFL legend Chad Johnson says he’s not worried about Tyreek Hill’s recent ankle injury and that the Miami Dolphins wide receiver should be in the MVP conversation. While speaking with TMZ Sports, Johnson made his case by reacting to the team’s 28-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Hill’s absence. 

“This is why he belongs in the MVP conversation,” Johnson said. “I know the MVP is a quarterback award, but what you saw [Monday] night, for two quarters with the absence of Tyreek, is how important he is to that team.” Hill exited the game in the first quarter and finished with just four receptions for 61 yards. In turn, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa failed to record a touchdown pass and ended up with an abysmal QBR of 29.2.

Chad Johnson made an impassioned plea to Aaron Rodgers this week, asking the veteran QB to stay sidelined instead of trying to force an expedited return to the field. “Don’t do it. You’re going to reinjure yourself. It’s too soon. You have to understand. There are few injuries that you don’t want to play with. You don’t want to play with anything having to do with your groin, your Achilles, or your knees. You don’t rush back from those. I don’t care what your doctors tell you,” Johnson said via TMZ.

Rodgers went down four plays into his debut with the Jets back in September. However, the alternative medicine practitioner has recently hinted that he is just a few weeks away from being ready to play again. Given that Achilles tears tend to need 6-9 months to heal, it’s practically a miracle that Rodgers is seemingly bouncing back from one in half that time. Without Rodgers at the helm, the Jets are 4-4. The team has one of the best defenses in the league most weeks. However, there is little to no life on offense to help win games. However, the time on injured reserve hasn’t been all bad for Rodgers. According to a New York Post report last month, Rodgers is making at least seven figures a year for his weekly segment on Pat McAfee’s ESPN show. Rodgers has made a weekly Monday appearance on McAfee’s show ever since he moved to ESPN in September. “Aaron has made over $1,000,000 with us, for sure,” McAfee told the Post via direct message. It’s unknown if Alabama coach Nick Saban, who also does a weekly segment, is also paid to appear.

Many of Rodgers’ major offseason revelations were made on McAfee’s show, both before and after it moved to ESPN. Trade rumors, the darkness retreat, his aggressive rehab plan. All of those happened on McAfee’s show. Of course, there’s no rule against Rodgers getting paid for media appearances. However, it takes some of the veneer off McAfee’s brand.
