Tyler The Creator Kept Receipts, Calling Out His Camp Flog Gnaw Crowd For Booing Drake In 2019

Tyler The Creator clearly went to the Drake school of keeping receipts, because he certainly had one ready to go for the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival crowd during his Saturday set, reminding them that they booed Drake the last time the festival was held in 2019. During his performance of “Lumberjack” from Call Me If You Get Lost, Tyler changed the line “I hit Drizzy and told him I had a milli’ for him” to “I called Drizzy and you booed him last time” then called the crowd “assholes” before breaking down and laughing. The audience also had a chuckle at the not-so-subtle reminder.

The booing incident in 2019 was most likely caused by fans near the stage who had parked there early, hoping that the “mystery headliner” Tyler had been teasing would be Frank Ocean. And although the moment went viral and sparked a slew of memes (as Drake’s most embarrassing moments so often do), the majority of the crowd actually enjoyed his set, and both Tyler and Drake took the fumble in stride.

At the time, Tyler wrote on Twitter, “I thought bringing one of the biggest artist on the fucking planet to a music festival was fire… all jokes aside sh*t lowkey funny.” Meanwhile, Drake posted on Instagram, “Plot twist…just signed a 10 year residency at Camp Flog Gnaw sorry kids see you EVERY SINGLE YEAR till you are 30.”

Unfortunately, Flog Gnaw was forced to go on a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19, but returned this past weekend with another stacked lineup — this time, going off without a hitch, even if Tyler found another way to disappoint fans.

Tyler The Creator Admits He Has “Huge Ego” During Camp Flog Gnaw Performance

Tyler The Creator admitted that he is “full of himself,” while addressing claims that he has a “huge ego” during his performance at Camp Flog Gnaw, over the weekend. He later shared a clip of the comments on Twitter with the caption: “[that’s] my ted talk.”

On stage, he explained: “I do interviews and stuff and see folks like, ‘Oh, he has such a huge ego, he’s so full of himself.’ Hell fucking right I’m full of myself, n***a, ’cause that’s how I feel about me. I’m full of me because everything I said I wanted to do, I did. And I didn’t let anybody tell me nothing else. And I got a résumé to back it up.” He added: “If you got dreams and y’all feel some type of way about yourself that might exceed how others feel about themselves, fuck ’em and don’t let that shit cloud your brain for real.”

Tyler, The Creator kicked off his annual Camp Flog Gnaw for 2023 at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium yesterday. As the first day of the music festival, fans got to watch him play a headlining set, filled with popular songs like “Earfquake” and “Yonkers.” During one moment of his performance, he also addressed the crowd to reveal the status of any upcoming music — giving a hilariously sarcastic response that has since gone viral.

“Y’all wanted new music?” he asked the crowd. “Aw aw, and I wanted a father, but you don’t get everything. So, I’m gonna go through my catalog instead, and you pieces of sh*t are gonna sing along.”

Fans in the audience still seemed to cheer anyway.

While he didn’t debut any new tracks, he did play sixteen songs in total, and even brought out flamethrowers for “New Magic Wand” — according to Setlist.Fm.

Later on in the evening, Tyler made a surprise appearance over at Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem’s night set as The Hillbillies. He didn’t pop up until the duo’s self-titled final song, where he just danced alongside them. (He also was a special guest in the music video, when the song first dropped back in May.)

Check out Tyler The Creator’s new music response during his Camp Flog Gnaw 2023 set below.

Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem, And Tyler, The Creator Perform “The Hillbillies” For The First Time At Camp Flog Gnaw

Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem, along with special guest Tyler, The Creator, have performed “The Hillbillies” live for the first time. The pair were performing at Tyler’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, which is making its return after a pandemic-mandated hiatus. Tyler previously appeared in the song’s video when it was first released back in May of this year. The assembled fans seemed overjoyed by the performance, despite rumors it also served as a Drake diss track.

Camp Flog Gnaw, back for 2023, has been in full swing all weekend. Other headliners have included SZA, PinkPatheress, Earl Sweatshirt, and WILLOW. It was last held in 2021 and, aside from 2020 and 2022, has been held annually since 2012. It’s great to see the festival back at full strength. We’ll have any updates that come out of the festival here at HotNewHipHop.

J. Cole Speaks On Kendrick Lamar Collab

Elsewhere, J. Cole recently spoke on a collab with Lamar that never came to be. “In a nutshell, [Kendrick Lamar] had pulled up on me at No I.D.’s spot,” J. Cole began. “We was already building this relationship, and I had these beats at the time and I was playing them for him. Was that our first time linking? ‘HiiiPoWeR,’ one of them beats? There’s a few beats, a gang of beats that I did, I gave him. Some of them like, maybe had a hook on them, a verse- this, that, and the third.

Furthermore, he continued. “So he took them and, you know, in that moment, we talked about, ‘Yo, bro, we should do a project,’” J. Cole continued. “At that time he’s not on like that, but I’m f-ckin’ with him. At one point, it was a real thing. But bro, time and life, we ain’t ever got the chance to go in and do it correctly, because that would take time. For us to do something that’s full of our potential, that meets our real potential, you’re gonna need time. At least a year. “When you got two successful artists with lives and families, that’s hard to do,” he concluded. “We put it to bed years ago. But at one point in time, it was a real conversation, for sure. It’s not like it’s a ton of songs. It’s not like it’s some album sitting on the shelf somewhere.”

Tyler, The Creator Responds To Fans Demanding New Music At Camp Flog Gnaw

Tyler, the Creator hosted his annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival this weekend at Dodger Stadium. So far, fans at the event or tuning into live streams on Prime Video or Twitch were able to catch performances from Ice Spice, Clipse, Teezo Touchdown, Kali Uchis, and more. Of course, Tyler himself also took the stage last night. During his performance, he responded to fans’ unrelenting requests for new music.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the hitmaker plans to drop anytime soon. “Y’all wanted new music?” he asked fans. “Aw, well I wanted a father. You can’t get everything you ask for.” While the news is pretty disappointing for listeners eagerly anticipating a new project, many note that Tyler just unveiled Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale earlier this year, the deluxe edition of his 2021 LP.

Tyler, The Creator Tells Fans They “Can’t Get Everything” They Ask For

Listeners thought they could be getting some new music from the California native since he announced that he had “cr*zy” new music coming “very soon” during an interview with Pharrell that dropped in August. They were left disappointed when he later took to social media to clarify what he meant. He explained that the interview was filmed in February, ahead of the April release of Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale, and that project was what he was actually referring to.

While they may not be hearing any new music from Tyler, the Creator in the near future, fans can cop some new merchandise from his brand Golf Le Fleur’s new collab with Lacoste. The collection dropped in October, and boasts various head-turning pieces. Brightly-colored sweater vests, t-shirts, socks, and more are currently available for purchase on Golf Le Fleur and Lacoste’s websites. What do you think of Tyler, the Creator’s response to fans demanding new music? Are you disappointed with his response? Camp Flog Gnaw returned yesterday (November 11) for the kickoff of the annual Los Angeles festival’s 2023 edition. As for the headliners, Kendrick Lamar and his cousin, Baby Keem, made their live debut as a duo now known as The Hillbillies. Throughout the set, both rappers played songs from their catalogs, including Lamar treating the Dodger Stadium crowd to hits like “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and “Humble.”

As they neared the end of the 23-song setlist, Lamar and Keem had one final surprise in store. The two brought out the event’s founder, none other than Tyler, The Creator, to groove along with them as they performed “The Hillbillies” song for the first time live also. Originally, the track dropped as a single online release in May. Tyler also appeared in the music video, making his appearance a fun surprise for fans.

The second day of 2023’s Camp Flog Gnaw is taking place today, as SZA is closing the night out as the other headliner, so there will (hopefully) be more surprises in store with her set. For those who are attending the sold-out event, more information can be found here.

D4VD Added To The Second Leg Of SZA’s “SOS” Tour

SZA is still on a massive tour following the release of her long-awaited new album SOS last year. Starting next month, she will embark on a second leg of the SOS tour and will be joined by a new special guest. Today she announced that Texas singer-songwriter D4VD will be joining her on tour from September 20 until October 29. He made the announcement himself on Instagram with a post of the upcoming tour dates. “TRYING NOT TO PANIC @sza THANK U FOR HAVING ME ON TOURRRR 🛟 I cannot believe my eyes right now this is going to be INSANE,” the caption of his post read.

That won’t be the only opportunity for fans to see SZA soon. She was just announced as a headliner at Tyler, The Creator’s Flog Gnaw festival. The fest is returning for a 2023 edition after years off following the pandemic. It’s the same festival where Drake was once booed off-stage during a surprise set because fans were expecting Frank Ocean to perform. She joins Kendrick Lamar, Clipse, Baby Keem, Ice Spice, and many more in the impressive roster of performers.

SZA Taps D4VD For The Rest Of Her Tour

Earlier this month, DJ Akademiks sparked outrage for comments he made about SZA’s weight. “Let me keep it a bean, SZA is as fat as me. That’s 100 percent facts. This is why when b*tches call me fat, I be laughing,” AK ranted. He went on to describe the R&B darling as being “built like a smart car.”

SZA has had two tracks become stable hits in 2023. Her song “Kill Bill” has been one of the biggest hits of the year so far and hit number one on the Hot 100 when she teamed up with Doja Cat for a remix. Her song “Snooze” has also stuck around on the charts and entered the top 20 earlier this month. What do you think of D4VD serving as the opening act on the next leg of SZA’s SOS tour?
