Stephen A. Smith has apologized to Cam Newton for the role that First Take and The Stephen A. Smith Show played in the backlash Newton received over his opinions on Brock Purdy. “Whether we agree or disagree with your dissection of Brock Purdy, what that [debate] deteriorated into was whether you had the right to say that. And I just want to say on national TV…I want to apologize for that,” Smith told Newton.

Newton has been getting a lot of hate for saying that Brock Purdy was not a “game changer” but a “game manager”. It’s a point he even made prior to smith’s apology. Newton said he trusted Purdy on a game-winning Super Bowl drive because he trusted Purdy’s resources. However, many people questioned what “right” Newton, who hasn’t played since 2021, had to make that call given what he had achieved in his own career.

Meanwhile, Newton’s ambition of potentially returning to the NFL got a reality check in the form of Shannon Sharpe. Sharpe used an audience Q&A for the 4th And 1 podcast to reveal how he feels about Newton, who was joining him on the show, wanting to be back in the NFL. Shannon’s point boiled down to one key factor – is Newton ready to sacrifice everything to back into the NFL? “You gotta train like Auburn Cam, when you didn’t have a cent. A string of injuries limited Newton’s ability to harness his signature dual-threat capabilities. His 2021 campaign saw him go 0-5 as a starter as the Panthers rotated between Newton, Sam Darnold, and P.J. Walker. However, it’s unlikely that the Falcons, currently quarterbacked by second-year starter Desmond Ridder, will be offering Newto a contract. Atlanta has been floated as a potential landing spot for Russell Wilson.

As Charlamagne and DJ Envy wound down their interview with Newton, Envy mentioned that they would be happy to appear on Newton’s show “once we get our co-host”. This prompted Newton to ask what happened to Hilarious, who was named as a permanent co-host less than a month ago. Instead of answering, Charlamagne moved into thanking Newton for his time.

As a result, it’s still unclear what is going on at the popular radio show. Hilarious has been noticeably absent from the show for the past few days. Furthermore, she called out Charlamagne and Envy for their conversation comparing SZA and Mary J. Blige. “These N-ggas trash. Envy shut up! I know artists be pissed when old heads do this bc now everybody negatively comparing SZA to MJB and it ain’t even her fault! However, Newton has stepped away from the NFL completely. In late December, he found himself beefing with Niners star Deebo Samuel. Newton responded to Deebo Samuel’s claims that the former QB has been blowing up his phone after the 49ers fell to the Ravens on Christmas Day. “Big fan, still a fan. I still f-ck with you. But I ain’t got your number to call you. It was very believable, I had to go and check to make sure I didn’t call you. But I ain’t got your number. Whoever is calling you, it ain’t me,” Newton said.

Samuel made his claims during an appearance on Up & Adam while defending his quarterback, Brock Purdy. The Ravens completely routed the 49ers in the late Christmas Day game. Baltimore picked off Purdy four times, eventually forcing the Niners to sub in Sam Darnold. Samuel had been responding to the wave of criticism against Purdy when he called out Newton.

According to legal documents seen by RadarOnline, Newton alleges that Proctor was given the car on the understanding that she would return it in the event that they broke up. The couple, who have four children together, broke up in 2019 after Newton fathered a child with another woman while Proctor was pregnant.

Online, a majority of people seemed to back Proctor over Newton. “Broke up in 2019 but came to collect the car in 2023 chiiile, EVERYTHING a man gifts you should be in YOUR name,” one person commented. “After I push out 4 kids, and you got a side baby, that’s my Bentley chief,” added another. “He wrong. He cheated on her and got the other woman pregnant. she had all them kids for him. The least he could do is let her have 2017 car he really don’t care about,” noted a third. Newton has not publicly commented on the lawsuit, nor has Proctor.

Meanwhile, police are pushing for charges to be filed in the death of a fan at a Patriots game earlier this year. Dale Mooney, a 30-year season ticket holder, died after being punched at a Patriots-Dolphins game and hitting his head on the ground as a result. While officers initially ruled that Mooney’s death was due to a medical incident, the investigation into his death remains ongoing. Newton played for the Patriots during the 2020 season.

Police declined to release many details about the three men wanted in connection with Mooney’s death. However, they are believed to live in Rhode Island. Antonio Brown Asks Cam Newton To Join Arena Football Team

Things aren’t going great for Antonio Brown in regard to his ownership of the Albany Empire, a team in the National Arena Football League. After taking over ownership in April, the back-to-back defending champions currently sit at 1-3 in the standings. Furthermore, Brown has reportedly missed multiple payment deadlines for players and staff. This was enough for the head coach to quit. That is even if Brown is the owner of the team, which we will discuss later.

Things have gotten bad enough in upstate New York that Brown is reportedly preparing to suit up for the team himself. The current leading receiver on the Empire is Nikolas Brassell, who has 151 yards and 2 touchdowns through four games. But he might not be the only former NFL star joining the team.

Brown Asks Newton To Join “In Some Capacity”

Antonio Brown WNYT‘s Rodger Wyland that he had spoken with former NFL quarterback Cam Newton about joining the team “in some capacity”. However, Brown did not elaborate, meaning that it is unknown if the move would be as a player, owner, or even coach. As “owner” is trickier than it sounds, let’s start with the player possibility. While a major stretch, especially with Newton eager to rejoin the NFL, maybe this is where Newton’s next step is. Arena football doesn’t have a traditional QB position, but Newton’s speed could see him take the field as a receiver or rusher.

However, even the more likely prospect of an ownership role is unlikely. Despite claiming he owns the team, investigations have discovered that Brown has no actual control over the Empire. Abigal Rubel of The Times Union found that a “foreign national” named Antonio El-Allah is the actual owner and Brown is simply a representative of El-Allah’s ownership trust. Furthermore, Rubel’s investigation uncovered a bizarre web of shell corporations and layers of ownership both linked to Brown and other entities. Therefore, it’s unclear how Newton would become involved, or who he would even be involved with. When asked directly who El-Allah was, Brown simply told Rubel “that’s a good question”.
