Busta Rhymes Claims Kendrick Lamar Raised The Bar With New Album “GNX”

Kendrick Lamar actualized his own praise. He called out other rappers for not giving him praise on the opener for his new album. He criticized Snoop Dogg for promoting a Drake diss, and claimed Nas was the only rapper who congratulated him for the Super Bowl Halftime Show gig. Lamar clearly felt a way about how others perceived him. The Dot praise party is in full effect now, though. Busta Rhymes had lots of positive things to say about the rapper’s new album on Tuesday.

Busta Rhymes joined the likes of Nas and Snoop in praising Lamar’s GNX album. The New York legend was blown away by the album’s combination of lyricism and catchy melodies. “King Kendrick, such an incredible body of work,” Busta explained via Instagram. “Brilliance and lyrical craftsmanship at its finest. Thank you for continuing to raise the bar!.” This is not the first Busta has evoked king imagery in relation to Lamar. He was mesmerized by the Compton rapper’s video for the 2022 song “The Heart Part 5.” He claimed Lamar was the best of his generation when it comes to visuals.

Busta Rhymes Crowned Lamar “King Kendrick”

That is quite the compliment, given Busta Rhymes’ music video pedigree. Busta is regularly cited as one of the most charismatic and inventive rappers of all time when it comes to the visuals. Dot’s ambition has actually been inspired, in part, by Busta Rhymes’ classic videos from the 1990s. He said as much during a 2018 interview with Billboard. Kendrick Lamar cited Busta, as well as Missy Elliott, for their colorful and often eye-catching presentation.

“You know, just being a kid watching BET, I’d be on the phone with Dave [Meyers],” Lamar told the outlet. “You know my partner that does the videos with me. And we’d be watching Missy Elliott videos back in high school, and Busta Rhymes videos. They were always big inspirations.” Kendrick Lamar has tried to implement the same level of sophistication and appeal in his own videos. “Being a student and always appreciating somebody being willing to put full impact and full ideas not only into the songs, but when you’re watching the songs,” he concluded. Sounds like the love goes both ways.

50 Cent And Busta Rhymes Roast Each Other Over Bad Haircuts On Instagram

50 Cent is hip hop’s most consistent troll. Other rappers have been more annoying, or more aggressive, but 50 has been doing it for longer than some of his genre peers have been alive. And he decided to take aim at another New York legend on November 12. 50 Cent posted a video of Busta Rhymes in which the latter’s hairstyle was pretty questionable. The video sees Busta sporting too much Bigen enhancement dye powder, and the “In da Club” rapper absolutely roasted him for it.

“Yo n**gas out of line, yo,” 50 Cent can be heard saying in the video. “How they let the n**gas Busta paint his whole head like that?” He doubled down on the Instagram caption, tagging some of Busta’s peers and calling them out for not alerting the rapper to his hair situation. “I think @fatjoe, Khaled and Tyson need to intervene here,” 50 Cent added. “Lol 😆 WTF.” The video is admittedly hilarious, and 50 doubled down by posting a photoshopped image of Fat Joe and DJ Khaled’s faces on hair products. Busta Rhymes did not take things lying down, though. He decided to fire back with some jokes of his own.

Busta Rhymes Playfully Mocked 50 Cent In Return

Busta posted a photo of 50 Cent rocking a pretty questionable hairstyle of his own. He found a rare photo of the G-Unit founder without his trademark fade, and proceeded to tee off in the caption. “What the f*ck in a 100 jars of TCB gel type sh*t is this my n**ga,” he wrote. “50 c’mon man. By the way fif, this sh*t look like ya jerry curl stink too bruddah!!.” Fair game. The jabs were thrown on both sides, and it all seemed to be in good fun. 50 being 50, though, kept it going. The rapper decided to post another photo of Busta Rhymes with TV producer Mona Scott-Young.

You can probably guess where this is going. “@Monascottyoung is thinking oh my God he painted his head,” 50 Cent wrote in the caption. “LOL 😆 hahahaha I’m done with you.” 50 and Busta Rhymes have collaborated a few times over the years, but this merciless trolling is a better indicator of their dynamic. The two rappers always seem to be finding something to mock with regard to one another. Fortunately, it all seems to be in good fun.

Busta Rhymes Speaks on Impact of ‘Unwarranted’ Opinions in Diddy Case: ‘Everyone Should Mind Their Damn Business’

Busta Rhymes was caught up with by Extra TV who inquired about his opinions on his collaborator Diddy’s current legal issues. In a pointed response, Rhymes believes opinions should be reserved until justice is served.

“I also would like for everyone to be mindful on the thirst, urgency, and need to speak on the situation,” Rhymes said. “I think a lot of times people don’t realize how insensitive it could be to have opinions on things you have no understanding of but what you are being told.

“We kind of confused ourselves, prematurely pass judgment, and we not realizing how we can directly and indirectly affect everyone involved with our unwarranted opinions. With that being said, I’m going to reserve my opinions, wish the best for everyone involved, and we should take away that everyone should mind their damn business.

“I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy, for the victims and for Diddy.”

Ciara Reveals Her “Goodies” Single Almost Went to Brittney Spears

Ciara 3

Ciara’s “Goodies” would have been a Brittney Spears banger in an alternative universe. Appearing on the Kelly Clarkson show, Ciara revealed the song was trying to be spun to the pop star.

“I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears,” Ciara said. “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song, because I love Britney.”

Just last week, Ciara has released her latest single, “Wassup,” featuring GRAMMY-nominated rapper Busta Rhymes, via her very own label, Beauty Marks Entertainment. Written by Ciara, Busta Rhymes, and Courtlin Jabrae and produced by J.R. Rotem, the energetic record taps into Ciara’s ATL roots with a current-day Y2K sound.

“’Wassup’ is a fun flex record. It started with a play on words on what we would say when I came up in ATL. “What’s up, what’s happenin?” It’s somewhat of a Y2K moment. I’m tapping into my ATL roots! It’s a song that’s meant for you to have the ultimate fun,” says Ciara. “Busta ‘slaughtered’ the track with his classic, undeniable, and unstoppable flow. He brought pure edge and the perfect energy to the record to take it all the way to a special place!”

Busta Rhymes remarks, “Y’all are in trouble because The Queen CiCi and The Dragon got a Banger!! That’s Wassup!!”

Busta and Ciara reunited on the road this summer for the critically acclaimed OUT OF THIS WORLD Tour alongside Missy Elliott. The tour left both fans and critics raving, Variety praised “Ciara was all sweat and allure,” while Atlanta Journal Constitution lauded, “[Ciara] captivated the crowd with her sultry dance moves and signature soprano.”

Additionally, today celebrates the 20th anniversary of Ciara’s 4x platinum debut album Goodies. A limited edition hot pink colored vinyl, which includes the original album and two bonus tracks, “Crazy” and “Represent Me,” is available now.

Ciara & Busta Rhymes Stunt On The Haters With “Wassup”

Ciara seems to be on her more hip-hop centric vibes lately because this new Busta Rhymes collab, “Wassup”, is definitely keeping that theme going. Just last month, the Texas born R&B icon put out “Run It Up” with BossMan Dlow in a surprising turn of events. Overall, this team up was a shocker just purely based on their respective sounds alone. But we have to give it its due for not being as much of a mess as it sounds on paper. Thankfully, Ciara is putting her better foot forward on “Wassup”.

She sounds much more at home on this club-friendly instrumental. Speaking of that, it seems like CiCi is aiming for that sort of vibe on her next record. Nothing is confirmed yet, nor has it been announced. But given how little time there is in between tracks, there’s a good chance we get that reveal sooner than later. For Ciara and Busta, this is just their second time being on a song, with their last link-up being on Janet Jackson’s “Feedback (So So Def Remix)” in 2008. “Wassup” is a pretty standard flex anthem, with Mr. Rhymes bringing his signature speedy flow and Ciara sounding like Nicki Minaj at points in her vocal delivery. Overall, it’s a solid effort that should get some decent play at nightclubs across the country.

Put your drink up in the air, you know we celebratin’ life (Celebratin’ life, yeah)

‘Cause we livin’, n****, everybody go and get a bottle if you want
See, we done bought the bar, don’t worry ’bout the price (That’s right)

Today In Hip Hop History: M.O.P. Dropped Their Timeless “Ante Up(Robbin Hoodz Theory)Remix” 24 Years Ago

tumblr bd0a5b7d104c0d4c773f1cc6fcaefe11 2f99dabe 1280

On this date in 2000, M.O.P.’s Billy Danze and Fame joined forces with Terror Squad’s First Lady Remy Ma, The Conglomerate general Busta Rhymes nad crew member to polish off the remix of their classic stick-em-up hit “Ante Up” on the Loud/Relativity imprint.

Pulled from their fourth full length studio album entitled Warriorz, Billy and Fame recruited producer DR Period for the production as well as famed NYC DJ Funk Flex to give an energetic intro to the song. The infectious horns incite the track’s hype level, making it a club banger as well as a pep song for any situation where that “brooklyn” energy is demanded.

The video was shot by director extraordinaire Little X in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn and features several artists and Hip Hop personalities including  Gang Starr, Lord Have Mercy, Easy Mo Bee, Ralph McDaniels, DJ Green Lantern, Buckshot of Black Moon, Steele of Smif-N-Wessun, Method Man, Afu-Ra, and Tony Touch.

Ante Up was also featured in several silver screen classics such as Brown Sugar, You Got Served and even made it on an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Salute to Billy, Fame, Teflon, DR, Buss-A-Bus, Remy and everyone else who was a part of making this a piece of Hip Hop history!

LL Cool J Makes His Triumphant Return With New Album “The FORCE”

LL Cool J is here. The legendary rapper has released his first new album in over a decade. Not only that, but LL has aggressively promoted the album by doing interviews and podcast appearances. It feels like the New York spitter has more passion harnessed into The FORCE than he did his previous effort, Exit 13. He certainly has more guest features. The FORCE has a staggering lineup of artists from multiple eras of hip hop. It’s a testament to LL Cool J’s reputation that he could take a decade off, then come back and secure features from the likes of Nas and Eminem. Plus, the album is actually good.

“Saturday Night Special” remains a standout, with its old school production and smooth turns from both Rick Ross and Fat Joe. The collaborations between LL Cool J and his roster of guests consistently make for the best songs on the album. “Proclivities” gets LL back in smooth talking, slow jam mode, and it has a killer Saweetie verse to boot. Busta Rhymes brings out LL’s energetic side on “Huey In the Chair,” while “Praise Him” sees LL Cool J and Nas swap bars over another vintage beat. The solo cuts on The FORCE are solid, “Post Modern” and “Basquiat Energy,” in particular, but they do lack the hunger and the spark that LL gets whenever he’s feeding off others. A definite improvement over Exit 13, and overall, the best LL has sounded in a long time. No “Accidental Racist” train-wrecks here.

LL Cool J Announced His First New Album In A Decade, With Features From Eminem, Nas, Saweetie, And More

LL Cool J‘s long-awaited Q-Tip-produced 14th studio album has officially been given a title and a release date. The FORCE (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy) will be LL’s first new album in 11 years, and arrives September 6th via Def Jam Recordings/Virgin Music Group. Clocking in at 14 tracks, it will boast guest appearances from a who’s-who of both classic and contemporary rap stars, including Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Fat Joe, Nas, Saweetie, and Snoop Dogg.

“[I was] going back to the drawing board and learning how to rap again,” he told the Associated Press of the new album’s creation process. “The LeBrons, the Stephs, the Jordans and the Kobes, they all go back to the drawing board, they always try to make themselves better. I wasn’t trying to do trendy, and I wasn’t trying to recapture anything I did before.”

That included scrapping previous versions of the work, such as one he said he recorded with 50 Cent during his interview with The Breakfast Club last year. “When it was done, I listened to it,” he recalled. “I’m like, ‘It sounds good. I like the music, it sounds cool, but it ain’t me.’ So, I ain’t put it out.”

The FORCE (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy) is due 9/6 via Def Jam Recordings/Virgin Music Group. You can check out its first single, “Passion,” above, and see the tracklist below. Pre-order it here.
