Brent Faiyaz Flirts With Lupita Nyong’o In The Trailer For His Valentine’s Day Short Film, ‘WY@’

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and Brent Faiyaz has chosen the most romantic holiday to release his short film for “WY@.” It’s a typically contrarian move from the Maryland singer, whose musical oeuvre tends to run counter to the warm feelings normally associated with R&B music. The single, which he first released in September 2023, has lyrics like “You’re the death of me / And the remedy,” describing a toxic, codependent situationship that he just can’t seem to let go — you know, real Valentine’s Day stuff.

Faiyaz announced the film’s release date with a trailer featuring actress Lupita Nyong’o, which looks like a snippet of the full video. In the clip, he and Nyong’o sit at a coffee table under dim lighting on what looks like a soundstage. Faiyaz can’t help but flirt with the Quiet Place: Day One actress, who seems more receptive to his come-ons than you might think (give that woman an Oscar right now!). The clip ends with a smash cut to black just as he leans in to plant a kiss on Lupita’s lips. Title cards share the video’s release date and a website: isosupremacy.com, where you can watch more Brent Faiyaz videos and learn more about his label.

Here’s Who Brent Faiyaz Is Signed To

Brent Faiyaz‘s July 2022 album, Wasteland, was named to Uproxx’s “The Best Albums Of 2022” list, and Faiyaz wasted no time in following it up. On Friday, October 27, Faiyaz dropped Larger Than Life. The 14-track project was more or less a surprise drop: Faiyaz only confirmed its impending arrival on Thursday, October 26, with a video from ISO Supremacy (In Search Of Supremacy), his newly launched creative agency.

On May 2, Billboard‘s Carl Lamarre reported that Faiyaz and UnitedMasters “agreed on an unprecedented partnership to form a new creative agency as a hub for his upcoming endeavors.” Lamarre cited an unnamed source in relaying that Faiyaz’s deal with UnitedMasters “is rumored to be valued at close to $50 million.” In aligning with UnitedMasters to form ISO Supremacy, Faiyaz retained his ownership as an independent artist. (As per DSPs, Faiyaz’s Larger Than Life is copyrighted to ISO Supremacy under exclusive license to UnitedMasters.)

“Brent Faiyaz is one of the most prolific independent artists today, and we are extremely excited to embark on this new partnership with him,” UnitedMasters Founder Steve Stoute told Billboard at the time of the report. “It’s been inspiring to watch his journey as an artist over the years, and with this partnership we look to further amplify his creative vision and support his entrepreneurial ambitions.”

It should be noted that Faiyaz also has a deal with Pulse Music Group, where he has been signed to a publishing deal since May 2016.

Is Brent Faiyaz Releasing A New Album, ‘Larger Than Life,’ Tonight?

It’s been just a little over a year since Brent Faiyaz released his sophomore album Wasteland. The project was well received and reckoned as one of the best R&B albums in 2022. Currently, Faiyaz is overseas for the European leg of his F*ck The World It’s A Wasteland Tour, a string of dates in support of his most recent projects: Wasteland and 2020’s F*ck The World. Now, it appears that Faiyaz might be able to treat fans to new music on his upcoming shows thanks to rumors of a new album dropping very soon.

Rumblings on social media began on Thursday (October 26) alluding to a new album from Faiyaz set to arrive on October 27. The alleged project is titled Larger Than Life and it’s said to have 14 songs and features from A$AP Rocky, Missy Elliott, Babyface Ray, Coco Jones, A$AP Ant, TTM Dawg, N3WYRKLA, CruddyMurda, Tommy Richman and FLEE. Larger Than Life reportedly also includes the previously-released singles “Moment Of Your Life” and “WY@.”

Faiyaz has yet to confirm or announce the album on any of his social media pages or through a press release, so news of the new album should be taken with a grain of salt for now. The album is said to be available in international markets, like this Spotify link for example, but those versions have yet to be confirmed as authentic and not illegitimate or retrieved through a hack.

If the project is confirmed, Larger Than Life will be Faiyaz’s first release since he signed an “unprecedented partnership” with Steve Stoute’s UnitedMasters.

Brent Faiyaz’s Confessional ‘WYA’ Single Finds Him Entangled With A No-Good Lover

Any text conversation that begins with “WYA” never leads anywhere good, and Brent Faiyaz knows that better than anyone. The chronically toxic singer gets stuck in a bad relationship — again — on his new single “WYA” (stylized at “WY@”), an acronym for “where you at?” “I can feel them walls closing in,” he croons. “I can feel it all / I’m stuck in your claws / Try to run but I don’t get far.” Although he tries to “take accountability,” he finds himself caught up in a loop of addictive drama — and sending those three little letters that cause so much trouble.

Faiyaz is a little over a year removed from his latest full-length release, 2022’s Wasteland and just wrapped up the US leg of his F*ck The World, It’s A Wasteland Tour before jumping the pond to pick back up in Leeds, England. Although his last album resulted in a successful tour and brought him plenty of acclaim, the Maryland-born singer said that “it’s hard to listen to” because of how personal it is, so it’s good that he’s working on a follow-up as the release of “WYA” seems to indicate.

Check out “WYA” above and stay tuned for more from Brent Faiyaz.
