Belly Announces The Release Date For His Jay-Z-Approved Album, ‘See You Next Wednesday’

It’s been a minute since we last heard from Toronto-based rapper Belly, who last dropped a full-length project in 2018 (Immigrant). Throughout 2021, though, he’s been more active than ever, releasing the singles “Money On The Table” with Benny The Butcher, the Moneybagg Yo-assisted “Zero Love,” and “Better Believe” featuring Young Thug and Belly’s XO Records boss The Weeknd. Today, he announced the culmination of all this activity: His upcoming album See You Next Wednesday, sharing the cover, tracklist, and release date, August 27.

In addition to the aforementioned tracks, See You Next Wednesday will also include feature appearances from Big Sean, Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert, Nas, Nav, and PnB Rock. It will also have production from Belly himself, DannyBoyStyles, The ANMLS, and The Weeknd. In January, when Belly gave the first inklings that the album was on the way, he noted that the album is also approved by two of the more prominent voices in hip-hop: Jay-Z and The Weeknd.

“Before I officially close out an album, there’s two people I play it for to get the seal of approval: Hov and Abel,” he tweeted. “That being said, I can officially say the album is done.”

Belly, Young Thug, And The Weeknd Are Indestructible In The Explosive ‘Better Believe’ Video

Toronto rapper Belly is on the comeback trail, with a new album, See You Next Wednesday, he’s promoting with a string of strong singles and revitalized videos including “IYKYK,” “Money On The Table,” and “Zero Love” featuring Moneybagg Yo. Today, he keeps the rollout rolling with the explosive video for his latest single, “Better Believe,” which features his XO Records leader The Weeknd and Atlanta trap mad scientist Young Thug.

The video seems to take a lot of inspiration from The Terminator, with Belly rapping in an auto factory while The Weeknd blows up an oil refinery and Thugger takes a direct hit from an 18-wheeler and walks it off (all references to scenes from the 1984 sci-fi thriller).

And while Belly gears up to release See You Next Wednesday, his first new album since 2018’s Immigrant, his collaborators also have a few things in the works. The Weeknd has hinted that he has a full body of work on the way, while Thug is set to produce and star in a musical dance dramedy, Throw It Back, with Tiffany Haddish and Us star Shahadi Wright Joseph.

Moneybagg Yo Accompanies Belly In The Desert Heat In Their Assertive Video For ‘Zero Love’

Moneybagg Yo is having the best year of his career so far. The Memphis native’s fourth album, A Gangsta’s Pain, sat atop the Billboard album charts for a pair of non-consecutive weeks, marking the first time he had a project go No. 1. The rapper has been promoting the album with a bunch of music videos, including “Free Promo,” “Hard For The Next,” and “Time Today.” But now he joins Belly in a video for their collaboration, “Zero Love.”

The video sees the pair bring their talents to the middle of a desert to fire off their confident bars. It also presents a group of dancers performing dabke, a traditional middle eastern dance as Belly described in an Instagram post. “Zero Love” is set to appear on Belly’s upcoming album, See You Next Wednesday, which will arrive through XO Records and Roc Nation. The project, which will be Belly’s first full-length release since his 2018 album, Immigrant, has yet to receive an official release date.

As for Moneybagg, the new video arrives after he teamed up with Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant for “Rookie Of The Player,” a track that appeared in the NBA player’s documentary Promiseland.

Belly Begins His Comeback Season With ‘IYKYK’ And ‘Money On The Table’ Featuring Benny The Butcher

The last few years were quiet ones for New York rapper Belly after he released his Roc Nation debut Immigrant (renamed from Midnight Zone) in 2018. However, while he wasn’t releasing music for the last two years, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t working on it. Today, he made his long-awaited return to the spotlight with two new singles, “Money on the Table” featuring Benny The Butcher and “IYKYK.” Both singles support the upcoming release of Belly’s third studio album See You Next Wednesday.

While the former track finds both Belly and Benny in their typical boastful modes, “IYKYK” is a more vulnerable and introspective song, on which Belly admits to feeling “neurotic” and addresses the pressures of life. The tone’s consistent with his recent social media messaging, with which he shares his struggles with his health, both mental and physical. A press release for the new singles promises that his upcoming album, named in honor of filmmaker John Landis, will contain similar content, while the singles themselves show Belly hasn’t lost a step and remains as lyrically sharp as ever.

That pen game served him well in 2020; he helped co-write his XO Records label boss The Weeknd’s hit single “Blinding Lights,” which spent 56 weeks on the Billboard Top 10 songs chart. Stay tuned for him to complete his comeback with See You Next Wednesday, due later this year on XO/Republic.
