Track of the Week: R3 Da Chilliman Taps OhGeesy In “To Da Face”

R3 Da Chilliman Taps OhGeesy In "To Da Face"

If Ohgeesy is on the song, you know it’s a banger.

California rapper R3 Da Chilliman returns with his newest song and visual called “To Da Face,” this time tapping Los Angeles’ own Ohgeesy. The record is a West Coast bop, showing the undeniable chemistry between the two recording artists.

Ohgeesy opens the track with the catchy hook, laying down the blueprint such as “Rule number two, don’t be trapping where you stay.” Soon, R3 Da Chilliman comes in with his distinctive voice and flow, giving his growing fanbase exactly what they’ve been waiting for in this new year.

In true LA fashion, the ROOK-directed visual sees both rappers flossing with chains, money, females, good smoke, and endless swag. “To Da Face” takes over what seems like an underground facility, as they quickly turn it into a full-blown function.

R3 states, “This song is special – it means a lot to me. It’s a club record for sure, but not limited to just being played there. I’m most excited for my fans to hear this record.”

“To Da Face” sets the tone for R3 Da Chilliman’s full-length debut album titled The People’s Choice, slated to be released this year. Serving as his deepest and most dynamic body of work yet, R3 brings his eclectic flows and introspective rhymes — putting on his birthplace of Moreno Valley with nothing but truth and love.
Last year, R3 unveiled his debut tape with 300 Entertainment called Chilli Season, reeling in all-star feature from Kalan.FrFr, ALLBLACK and 03 Greedo. This year, R3 plans to take over the rap game by delivering even more heat for his growing fanbase.

This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

HNHH: For those who are just getting familiar with 310babii, how would you describe and introduce yourself?

310babii: I would say I’m a young new artist, but I’m different and unique. I’m a breath of fresh air. I’m bringing a new flavor to the rap game that hasn’t been showcased. It’s never been any light shed on my type of style or sound. Bringing something different to the game.

I love that perspective. You obviously have a single right now that’s getting a lot of attention and there’s light being shed on it. What was your reaction to “Soak City,” making noise?

It was so much all at one time it didn’t feel real. After a while it was just exciting for what’s to come. TikTok!

Read More: How Compton’s Most Wanted Influenced West Coast Hip Hop

That’s definitely exciting! How do you balance all of this being a senior in highschool and did you know you wanted to pursue music?

Yeah. That wasn’t the only thing I wanted to do, but I knew that was a step in it.

What’s been the reaction from your friends and family?

Friends are excited for me. And there hasn’t been any changes. But now I’m showing kids who are the same age as me that it’s possible. It’s possible to make some type of noise from where we come from.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I watch other artists. And I know I can do it too. I pull things from some of my favorite artists and see what I can come up with. Like a good plan.

Who are some of those artists?

Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, Gucci, and Drake. Lil Yachty is my dream collab.

What’s in the works for you right now? What can we be on the lookout for?

More singles! And definitely an album coming soon.

Anyone special on the album that can possibly be a feature?

Yeah I do. But I wanna roll it out the right way and surprise everybody.

Who are some people in LA who have supported you? Any West Coast artists who have showed love?

Tyga, OhGeesy, and BlueBucksClan. It was a little game they gave me. They just told me just being myself and staying true to myself. The whole city rootin’ behind me.

You linked up with Luh Tyler for a song together called “Walk,” and got a chance to perform it at Complex Con! How was that? And what’s the vibe like in the studio together?

It was fun and crazy. My manager knew his manager. I’d work with him again. We haven’t been in the actual studio together yet.

What’s some of your goals for the new year? And how do you plan on ending off the year?

Honestly, I just wanna keep working. I don’t have any specific goals. Just keep working and staying hungry. I’m focused on dropping my album and all I’m looking forward to. I’m in a whole different reality with music. Things that used to be problems for me aren’t problems anymore. Now I got like, champagne problems. Certain things that I would think about 4 months ago, I don’t even care about no more. It’s like I’m in a whole different reality. The industry is like a whole different dimension. I’m living life, and having fun. Everything is music. And it’s lit.

We’ll be on the lookout! Thanks 310babii!

Who Is OhGeesy?

Throughout the history of Hip Hop, several rappers have achieved solo success after leaving their groups, such as Lauryn Hill and Ice Cube, among others. The same could be said about OhGeesy these days. Even while he was a member of the Hip Hop group Shoreline Mafia, there was always particular attention on OhGeesy. Now, with the group no longer together, the rapper is on the rise as a as a solo act. As he builds up his solo catalog, the rapper may be on his way to joining the ranks of the rap icons mentioned above. In the meantime, for those who aren’t familiar with OhGeesy and his works, here’s what you need to know.

OhGeesy’s Background

Born Alejandro Carranza on November 27, 1993, OhGeesy is a Mexican-American rapper. When he was much younger, his parents immigrated to the United States. Subsequently, they settled in East Hollywood, where the rapper eventually grew up. On an episode of No Co-sign on Complex’s YouTube channel, he shared that he had a difficult upbringing. He spoke about growing up poor through elementary and middle school, living in a two-bedroom apartment that housed ten people. Additionally, he shared that growing up, all he wanted to do was join a gang like his dad and stepdad. However, the rapper took it upon himself to change the trajectory of his life. As he shared on No Co-signs, he said to himself, “I don’t want to be around all this s**t. I’m out.” His conviction to change his life’s story eventually drove him to pursue a music career.

Forming Shoreline Mafia

In 2012, at the age of 19, OhGeesy met and befriended Fenix Flexin (Fenix Rypinski). They began making music together and effectively became the founding members of Shoreline Mafia. The lineup of the group was completed soon after when the remaining two members joined, Rob Vicious (Robert Magee) and Master Kato (Malik Carson). The members of Shoreline Mafia produced and recorded music together for a while after they met. However, it was not until 2016 that they officially became a group.

The Ascent & Disbandment Of Shoreline Mafia

Shoreline Mafia released their debut mixtape ShoreLineDoThatShit in November 2017. It’s the only project from the group to be released independently. In May 2018, Shoreline Mafia signed to Atlantic Records, and the mixtape was re-released under the label. Backed by a major label, it surpassed its initial numbers and went on to sell over 500,000 units in the US. As such, the project is now Gold-certified by the RIAA. In addition, it also contains three RIAA-certified tracks, “Musty,” “Nun Major,” and “Bottle Service.”

The group achieved further success with their feature on Rob Vicious’ solo mixtape, Traplantic. The mixtape was released in 2018 and houses the hit single “Bands,” which features the other members of Shoreline Mafia. Altogether, the song has sold over two million units in the US, and 160,000 units in Canada — certified 2x Platinum in both countries. It remains the group’s biggest song and helped push OhGeesy and his friends further up the mainstream ladder.

Furthermore, Shoreline Mafia released two EPs, Party Pack and Party Pack, Vol. 2 in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The latter peaked at number 67 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking their first appearance on the chart. Subsequently, Mafia Bidness, the group’s sole studio album, was released on July 30, 2020. It peaked at number 27 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming their highest-charting project to appear on the chart. However, months prior, in April 2020, Fenix Flexin announced that he would be leaving the group after Mafia Bidness dropped. Soon after, the group was disbanded, and its members are now pursuing solo careers.

OhGeesy Goes Solo

Seeing that OhGeesy had already built a rep while he was in Shoreline Mafia, it wasn’t difficult for him to bag collabs. After Shoreline Mafia separated, the rapper signed a solo record deal with Atlantic Records. In 2021, he was featured on “For Real” by Drakeo the Ruler. In May, he dropped “Get Fly” ft. DaBaby, and in July 2021, he followed it up with the YG-assisted “Big Bad Wolf.”

OhGeesy released his debut solo album, Geezyworld, on August 27, 2021. The 11-track album included appearances from artists like Central Cee on “Startn Up,” and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie who appeared on on “Keeper. A deluxe version dropped on February 18, 2022, with seven additional songs. In addition, it contained more guest appearances from the likes of Big Scarr and Eladio Carrion.

Geezyworld 2, the rapper’s sophomore album, was released on May 5, 2023. It is his most recent project, and arguably his most popular solo album yet. The 23-track project features guest appearances from Tyga, Bino Rideaux, BIA, and Cash Kidd, among others. “GEEKALEEK” ft. Cash Kidd is currently the biggest song on the album. Also, the version of “GEEKALEEK” featuring BIA is among the most popular songs in OhGeesy’s solo catalog.

The Future

Since Shoreline Mafia disbanded, OhGeesy has done considerably well on his own. Without a doubt, the rapper has a promising career ahead of him. Certainly, he has experienced hitches along the way, and a few legal issues. For example, he was arrested in 2022 for possession of a firearm and codeine. Notwithstanding, if he stays focused on the music, he could become a very prominent rapper soon enough.

Sexyy Red Is Right About Trump, OhGeesy Believes, He Speaks On Her Sex Tape

Sexyy Red is having one heck of a week, bolstered by her new song with Drake on his album For All The Dogs. Unfortunately, though, she also received a brutal revenge p*rn attack, as her sex tape leaked on her Instagram Story. In addition to all that, the St. Louis, Missouri native expressed her support of indicted former president Donald Trump, which obviously ruffled a lot of feathers online. For these reasons and more, loads of people have commented on her, including West Coast rapper OhGeesy. While speaking to TMZ in Beverly Hills this week, he said that the “SkeeYee” hitmaker is actually spot on.

“Yeah, we f**k with Donald Trump [in the hood],” OhGeesy told the interviewer, agreeing with Sexyy Red. “He brought the stimulus checks, man, we need some more of that. Bring Donald Trump back in, shout out Sexyy Red, too. Nah, she’s going up,” he replied when asked whether the sex tape will ruin her career. “Her whole f***in’ style like sex tape rap. You can put her music on like a f***in’ p*rn soundtrack or something,” the Cali MC said with a laugh. What’s clear is that, whether her music is raunchy or not, Sexyy shouldn’t be subjected to attacks like this leak.

OhGeesy On Sexyy Red

“Don’t record this s**t,” OhGeesy remarked when asked whether he had any advice for Sexyy Red. Later on during the conversation, he said he just dropped a new album and is looking forward to some upcoming sold-out shows in the area. In fact, Geesy said that the lack of stimulus checks has kept his hustle up by performing two to three shows a night, including afterparties and the like. Regardless of all that, it’s always interesting to see how people (especially celebrities) react to others’ public scandals.

Meanwhile, he’s not the only one who shares the controversial opinion that the sex tape leak is “on brand.” Ebro recently caught some flack for suggesting that exact phrasing. What do you think about all this, and about many rappers voicing support for Donald Trump? Let us know in the comments and check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Sexyy Red and OhGeesy.

Jay Worthy, Wiz Khalifa & OHGEESY Team Up For New Single, “From The Jump”

Jay Worthy, Wiz Khalifa, and OHGEESY just came together to craft a club-ready West Coast banger with their new single “From The Jump.” While this is a pretty atypical collab considering all artists involved’s typical output, it’s a welcome and successful crossover. Moreover, each MC is able to fit the sunny and bounce-heavy beat with ease, as lengthy or small as their contributions may be. For example, Jay and Geesy come through with some elaborate verses that see them flexing and boasting about their possessions and greatness. On the other hand, Wiz takes over chorus duties, complimenting the instrumental well with his vocal melody and tone.

Furthermore, the beat contains some infectious piano leads, plucky bass, and crisp fast hi-hats to give it that West Coast flavor. However, this might not be the pallet you’re used to if you’re a Jay Worthy fan, although OHGEESY certainly floats on this with ease considering that it’s right up his sonic alley. Readers might know Worthy for his collaborations with the likes of Harry Fraud, on which he flexes his lyrical pen a little bit more. Still, there’s more than one way to make a great song, and it will be at the very least refreshing for you to hear him tackle this. If anything, it just sets up his success for more experimentation and lane-switching in the future.

Shoreline Mafia’s OhGeesy Arrested for Codeine Possession & Weapons Charge

ohgeesy

Shoreline Mafia’s, OhGeesy born Alejandro Carranza, was taken into custody last weekend in Burbank, Calif. after being pulled over by police.

Officers claim the car he was riding in with four other people had expired tags and excessive window tint.  They also saw a bottle of un-prescribed codeine in the rapper’s pockets.  He and his four friends were all arrested for possession of a loaded firearm and charged for the gun because no one claimed it.

According to TMZ, OhGeesy’s attorney Michael A. Goldstein said, “Although it has been reported that a single firearm was recovered from a bag in the front passenger area, the officers arrested all 5 occupants.  We look forward to our day in court…assuming this makes it to the front steps of the building.”

OhGeesy, 28 years old, was also booked for the codeine. His bail was set at $35,000 and bonded out shortly after.
