Bas Is Stranded In The Desert In New Visuals For “Dr. O’blivion”

Sudanese rapper and singer Bas’ new album We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up is continuing its torrent run. It is still doing well because we are here to talk about it once more. This project is a lot of fun to listen to, dissect, and just vibe out with. Bas delivered a multitude of atmospheres and topical focus. It makes it arguably his best full body of work in his rock solid career.

Over the past week and a half or so, we have touched on some of our personal favorites from the LP. “Black Jedi,” “Risk,” and “Decent” were the ones that stood out at HNHH. However, you also have heavy-hitting collaborations with J. Cole. Bas not only had Cole perform on the mic, but also behind the keyboard. He had a hand in the deeper cut “Dr. O’blivion.”

It is an easy and relaxing track with a mellow guitar and swaying groove. Bas’ flows are great on it too. It just makes you feel like you are on vacation in a tropical location. With the success of the song, Bas has just dropped the music video for it. It seems him lost in some desert on the side of the road, as he hitchhikes. This is now the sixth set of visuals for the album.

Bas Makes A Clever Star Wars Reference On Infectious Banger “Black Jedi”

Bas was one of those artists who took a huge gap between his last album. Similar to Travis Scott, the Sudanese artist last dropped a project in 2018 with Milky Way. Just this past weekend he finally ended the drought by coming through with a 17-track offering. We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up partially touches on some topics that are usually avoided by most people. For example, “Khartoum” focuses on the issues going down in the Middle East which have taken tens of thousands of lives.

But, that is not all the tracklist focuses on. A lot of the record provides vibey songs to throw on for those nighttime drives or chill-outs. Bas incorporates a lot of African music like Afro-beat, Afro-pop, etc. But, he also brings more hard-hitting production on tracks like “Black Jedi.”

Listen To “Black Jedi” By Bas

This may be the most catchy song on the LP, especially with the extremely quotable hook. He rhymes “winds do” with “Mace Windu,” a reference to Samuel L. Jackson’s Jedi character in the earlier Star Wars movies. It is not a track for lyricism, but rather something to get hype to. Due to its solid melody and trap-inspired beat, it is sure to be the most agreeable and one the songs that winds up on a lot of playlists.

And they got nothing on mine

Bas & Amaarae Prove They’re R&B Icons On “Decent” From Dreamville Artist’s New Album: Stream

We’re still waiting for J. Cole’s follow-up to 2021’s The Off-Season. Thankfully, the North Carolina native is keeping us well-fed with his impressive feature run this year. Bas Might Have His Best Project With “We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up”

Bas is one of Dreamville’s best talents without a doubt, as he can bring a wide range of sounds to the table. The Sudanese talent has been hard at work over the past five years to perfect the approach to his fourth studio album, We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up. Nearly over the past year, he has been dropping singles for this effort. It began back in late January with “Diamonds,” and ended in November with “179 Deli.”

The title of this album aptly refers to the messages of some of the tracks here. He talks about the troubling times in the Middle East on “Khartoum.” “Ho Chi Minh” sees Bas talk about what has been weighing on him and how needs to remain strong within himself. Throughout this collection of songs, he brings the hottest sounds and artists from those genres.

One of the most heavily included is Afro-pop/Afro-beats. He brings on Zimbabwe’s own Sha Sha to “Testify.” Amaarae, who hails from Ghana, appears on “Decent.” J. Cole has two extra appearances outside of “Passport Bros.” He can be heard in his melodic bag on “Home Alone” and “Paper Cuts.” This album has a serene feeling to it, especially with the way Bas is orchestrating these songs. All in all, with the amount of versatility and themes, he might have put forth his best work here.

Bas to Release His New Album on Dec. 15

Bas is getting ready to invite the world into his new album, We Only Talk About Real Shit When We’re Fucked Up. The album is set to release via Dreamville on Dec. 15.

Bas dropped off the tracklist online, revealing J. Cole, FKJ, and Ferg as features. You can see the announcement below.

In July, Bas and J. Cole teamed up to release the music video for their latest hit single, “Passport Bros,” a collaboration produced by Parallel Studios.

The visually captivating video showcases the duo’s adventures worldwide, with Resorts World Las Vegas as the stunning backdrop. From the serene Awana Spa to the delectable Kusa Nori and Eight Lounge, the artists take viewers on a virtual journey through the resort’s top-notch facilities. The excitement continues at Zouk Nightclub, where the party vibes come alive, and finally, the vibrant casino floor adds an extra touch of glamour. The “Passport Bros” music video is a treat for fans, immersing them in Bas and J. Cole’s thrilling global escapades.

“The whole video is meant to be a ride along for fans and provide a look into Bas and J. When they first started making music, a lot of their videos were simple “run and gun” style fun visuals. We wanted to keep that same real energy present. The result is a fun video that focuses on real moments between Bas and his closest friends.”

Bas And AJ Tracey Drop A Vibey Track With “179 Deli”

Bas is finally nearing the end of the drought of not dropping an album. The French-born rapper has been radio silent in that regard, taking a five-year hiatus. He has shown us in the past that he can deliver tons of solid tracks across an LP. Even though Bas has taken some time to hone in on his craft, it will interesting to see if he can do it again with his fourth record.

So far, all is sounding good. Throughout 2023, the New York-raised artist has given us plenty of quality. It started near the backend of January with the lead single, “Diamonds,” for We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up. After that, we got a sun-soaked banger featuring J. Cole with “Passport Bros.” “Ho Chi Minh” and “Khartoum” were more emotional and powerful cuts that have also been a pleasure to listen to.

Now, he is back with maybe his last offering before the project drops sometime in December. Some are saying the middle of the month, while Genius is expecting it on New Year’s Eve. Regardless it is soon, and we have another cut to check out. “179 Deli” features a guest verse from UK rapper, AJ Tracey. This one is more of a vibe that has a Jersey club sound. The sample used in the background adds some extra character as well. All around it is another nice effort from Bas. You can hear it above.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new single from Bas and AJ Tracey, “179 Deli?” Out of all five tracks leading up to the release of We Only Talk About Real S*** When We’re F****d Up, which one has been the best?
