K-Pop Star Performs Nicki Minaj Perfectly During Interview

K-Pop star Giselle surprised fans during a recent interview when she broke out a perfect rendition of Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie World”. The only things that Giselle misses are the vocal tags of Ice Spice, who featured on the song. Safe to say that Giselle’s fans were absolutely gagging over the performance.

However, it’s not the first K-Pop link for Nicki and Spice. A fan mashup of Spice and K-Pop group XG recently went viral on social media. The video was originally posted to YouTube in February 2023 and presents a fairly flawless mashup of “In Ha Mood” and “Shooting Star”. However, the video is gaining new traction thanks to Daniel Takedea, whose project direction work with Rolling Stone, GQ, Vogue, and more landed him on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. “Wait, this XG x Ice Spice remix is amazing!!” Takedea wrote in Japanese on X, formerly Twitter. The video also incorporates Spice’s “Bikini Bottom” as part of its visuals.

Fans Brawl At Nicki Minaj Rolling Loud Set, Rumors That It Involved Bardi Gang Emerge

Elsewhere, the Rolling Loud set of Minaj was derailed slightly as several brawls broke out amongst the audience. Several videos of the various fights quickly spread on social media. However, this was then quickly conflated with an unsubstantiated report that the fight was a result of Barbz jumping Cardi B fans, known colloquially as the Bardigang. Despite this, there are no reports to confirm that this actually the case.

Nicki was performing at Rolling Loud as part of her Pink Friday 2 tour. The tour runs until July 14, when Minaj will close out with a performance at the Les Ardentes Festival in Belgium. This includes Minaj headlining Wireless Fest in London, a performance she is very excited about. “Instead of doing another arena show in London after we sold out in the first week, I opted to do Wireless Festival. This year’s show will be a billion times more special, creative, beautiful, cohesive, ugh! I’m so excited. I’d like to tell you guys thank you in advance. Last year was so meaningful but won’t compare. Just wait & see,” Minaj wrote on Instagram.

The Recording Academy Mistakingly Announced Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s ‘Barbie World’ As A Grammy Winner On X, Which Didn’t Go Well

Nicki Minaj Ice Spice Princess Diana screengrab 2023

The 2024 Grammys are just as nerve-wracking for musicians as it is for the team that makes the ceremony possible. Unfortunately, considering that it is music’s biggest, there is no margin for era. Sadly, the poor social media manager over at The Recording Academy is learning this the hard way.

As the rap categories were being announced, the organization’s social media team got one coveted winner wrong. In a screengrab captured by Pop Crave, The Recording Academy announced Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’sBarbie World” as the winner of the Best Rap Song. The only problem is, as the ceremony was being broadcast, Killer Mike was the actual winner.

Minaj’s die-hard fans, the Barbz, have already begun to slam The Recording Academy online for the mix-up. Some have even started conspiracy theories that Roc Nation pulled strings to get the win pulled due to Minaj’s ongoing beef with Megan Thee Stallion.

Although the record, which was featured on the Barbie movie soundtrack, the compilation has already pulled in other wins, including Best Song Written for Visual Media (for Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” Mistakenly Announced As Grammys Best Rap Song, The Barbz Go Wild

It goes without saying that Nicki Minaj’s Barbz are a force to be reckoned with. This has been demonstrated time and time again, most recently with their explosive reactions to Megan Thee Stallion dissing Nicki on “Hiss.” Nicki was nominated for two Grammy awards this year, including Best Song Written for Visual Media and Best Rap Song for her Barbie collab with Ice Spice, “Barbie World.” Unfortunately, she didn’t secure either of them, leaving her Grammy-less.

Billie Eilish took home Best Song Written for Visual Media with her Barbie soundtrack contribution “What Was I Made For?” while Best Rap Song went to Killer Mike. His track with Andre 3000, “Scientists & Engineers,” featuring Eryn Allen Kane and Future came out on top, also earning him an award for Best Rap Performance. His sixth studio album, Michael, additionally scored Best Rap Album.

Recording Academy Wrongly Declares “Barbie World” As Winner

Needless to say, the Barbz are feral. To make matters worse, the Grammys’ official Twitter/X account mistakenly announced “Barbie World” as the winner of Best Rap Song. Some Tweets also suggest that the official Grammys website had it listed as the winner, leaving social media users to speculate. Some suspect that “Barbie World” was supposed to win, but someone on the inside stole the win away from Nicki.

This is obviously unconfirmed, but either way, they’re convinced. Some of Nicki’s peers have even hit social media since the announcement, suggesting that they have their suspicions too. Nicki herself has yet to weigh in, but surely it’ll be explosive when she does.

The Barbz Are Feral Over Grammy Snub

Coco Gauff Raps Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” After U.S. Open Win

Coco Gauff shared a video on social media of herself lip-syncing to Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” while rocking pink and holding up her U.S. Open trophy. With her victory over Aryna Sabalenka, the 19-year-old became the youngest American to win the U.S. Open since Serena Williams in 1999.

When the video began circulating on social media, the official account for Barbie shared it on Instagram. “This Barbie is the US Open champion [heart emoji],” the account wrote.

Coco Gauff made a name for herself on the international stage after beating Venus Williams at Wimbledon as a 15-year-old. When asked about the expectations placed on her after, she admitted to CNN’s Carolyn Manno they affected her “a lot.” “I learned how to just stay within myself but also embrace it,” she said after the win. “Before I tried to ignore it, but now I’m really embracing it and I still feel like I have long, long ways to develop as a player. Today was nowhere near my best, but it was just enough that I needed to win in that moment.” Check out the clip of Gauff singing “Barbie World” below.

The new social media post isn’t the first time Gauff has shouted out hip-hop artists after a victory. Last year, she proclaimed it a “City Girls summer” after beating Zhang Shuai in Round 4 of the 2022 US Open. “That was a City Girls’ ‘period,’” she said at the time. “It’s a City Girls summer. Period. That’s what it is. JT, Yung Miami, you don’t know? I got my long nails, it’s supposed to be like that. It’s feeding off the crowd.”

After Coco Gauff’s Historic 2023 US Open Victory, She Embraced Her Inner ‘Barbie’ With Help From Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice

On Saturday, September 9, Coco Gauff made tennis history after she beat Aryna Sabalenka to win the 2023 US Open title. According to CBS, the 19-year-old player became the youngest American woman to win the tournament since Serena Williams. After the landmark victory, Gauff took to TikTok to bask in the moment with a very fitting soundtrack.

In a video captioned “This Barbie is the US Open Champion 💞,” Gauff is seen lipsynching along to Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s song “Barbie World.” The track, which appears on the Barbie movie’s official soundtrack, is all about confidence, of which Gauff has plenty.

During Gauff’s victory speech, she let her confidence shine bright as she clapped back at those who doubted she would come out on top.

Honestly, thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me. Like a month ago, I won a 500 title, and people said I would stop at that. Two weeks ago, I won a 1,000 title, and people were saying that was the biggest I was going to get. So three weeks later, I’m here with this trophy right now. I tried my best to carry this with grace, and I’ve been doing my best. So honestly, to those who thought [they] were putting water on my fire, you’re really adding gas to it. And now I’m really burning so bright right now.

Sports stars such as Angel Reese have appeared alongside their favorite musical acts. For Reese, that was Cardi B and Latto, when she made a cameo in their video for “Put It On Da Floor Again.” Maybe Coco Gauff will link up with Nicki Minaj or Ice Spice in the future.

Saweetie Doesn’t Mind Nicki Minaj Being ‘Inspired’ By Her ‘Icy Girl, Icy World’ Sample On ‘Barbie World’

Rap’s current sample-mania phase has produced some duds and some jams, but it has also seen some minor controversy as rappers go after the same sample. This turned out to be the case with one of rap’s early modern it-girls, Saweetie, and the godmother of the present generation, Nicki Minaj, when both employed the same sample of Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl.”

Saweetie, who first teased her version, “Icy Girl, Icy World,” during an Instagram Live stream, found herself getting scooped when Nicki teamed up with rap’s latest it-girl Ice Spice for “Barbie World,” which wound up getting placed on the soundtrack for the Barbie movie. The controversy deepened when Jason Martin (formerly known as Problem) revealed that Saweetie’s version was initially sent to Nicki, who turned it down only to pop up on the soundtrack later with a different co-star.

Now, Saweetie herself has chimed in on the dust-up, telling Power 106 Los Angeles’ Justin Credible that she still intends to release her version, despite everything. In the interview, she points out that what happened isn’t uncommon in the recording industry, as songs often pass through several hands before being released, and sometimes, the original artist can get lost in the shuffle.

She’s unbothered, though, saying, “I love to inspire, that’s my purpose here, and they look bomb as f*ck in the video. So it’s just like ‘Okay, bitch, I see you!’ Mine still coming out though. Stay tuned. I’m saving it for a very special moment.” She also told Justin Credible that she’s changing the title of her long-awaited debut album after realizing that Pretty Bitch Music is her “movement” (also, probably not as marketable as any of the other branding she’s come up with over the past five years).

In the meantime, Saweetie, who just released a double single for her birthday consisting of “Birthday” and “Shot O’ Clock” (which, funnily enough, is also based on a popular ’90s hit, the DNA remix of Suzanne Vega’s “Tom’s Diner”), is gearing up for a tour with her new boo, YG, and Tyga as the two Compton rappers promote their upcoming joint project.

Ice Spice Says Taylor Swift Is ‘F*cking Hilarious’ And Shares What She’s Learned From Nicki Minaj

Back in May, Taylor Swift released a remix of her Midnights cut, “Karma,” featuring one of rap’s buzziest newcomers, Ice Spice. Though the remix sparked controversy — particularly due to how her supposed then-boyfriend Matty Healy had previously treated Ice — both Ice and Swift have had nothing but positive things to say about each other.

In a recent interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Ice broke down how the collaboration came about.

“I was home and my manager called me, and was like, ‘Oh, Taylor wants you on a record.’ And I’m like, ‘Taylor?’” said Ice. “I was having a really bad day also, I would like to say that. I was having a terrible day. I was crying all morning because I was just so mad at something. And then he called me with that news. And then I cried more, because it was good news.”

She then recalled the first time she met Swift and how exciting of an experience it was.

“We went to the studio and [Taylor] is so humble and so nice,” she said. “I kid you not. I pulled up to the studio and she outside waiting for me. So she’s great. She’s so funny. We text all the time. She is f*cking hilarious. I’m not going to lie. She’s the funniest person ever.”

In addition to a Taylor Swift collab, Ice has also dropped to songs with Nicki Minaj this year. Elsewhere in the interview, Ice noted the was in which Minaj has been a mentor to her.

“I feel like I am absorbing advice from [Nicki] and learning from her and stuff,” Ice said. “And she’ll tell me, ‘Learn from my mistake, do this or don’t do that,’ or whatever. And I just really pay attention to what she’s saying. Because if there’s anyone I’m going to listen to it’s the queen.”

Ice Spice Owns Two Spots In The Top 10 Of The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 For The Second Time This Year

It’s getting more difficult to remember a Billboard Hot 100 that didn’t include Ice Spice, despite the fact Ice Spice’s Hot 100 debut (“Gangsta Boo” with Lil Tjay) came in January 2023. This week’s Billboard Hot 100 dated July 8 features Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj, and Aqua’s Barbie movie soundtrack single “Barbie World” debuting at No. 7, one slot above “Karma” by Taylor Swift featuring Ice Spice.

Per Billboard, “Barbie World” — Ice Spice and Minaj’s reinvention of the Aqua classic — is Ice Spice’s fourth top-10 Hot 100 entry and Minaj’s 23rd. Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” tops the chart for a 13th week.

The publication contextualized the feat for both women:

“The track bows as Minaj’s 23rd Hot 100 top 10 – extending her record for the most among female rappers – while she ties Whitney Houston for the sixth-most among women overall in the chart’s history. Taylor Swift leads all women with 40 top 10s, followed by Madonna (38), Rihanna (32), Mariah Carey (28), and Janet Jackson (27). Ice Spice scores her fourth Hot 100 top 10, and second with Minaj, after their ‘Princess Diana‘ debuted and peaked at No. 4 in April.”

Along with “Barbie World,” “Princess Diana,” and “Karma,” Ice Spice’s other top-10 entry was “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2” with PinkPantheress. In fact, this week isn’t the first in 2023 when Ice Spice had two top-10 hits on a Hot 100 chart, as “Princess Diana” and “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2” occupied No. 4 and No. 10, respectively, in late April.

“YALL!!!!! 2 songs in the TOP 10 is crazy!!!!!!! Congratulations!!! Princesssssssss @icespicee_ #PrincessDiana #HeavyOnIt #Barbz #Munchkins Stay tuned Love you guys sm,” Minaj tweeted on April 24.

“Thxxxx queen,” Ice Spice tweeted back. “We eatin good tn !”

Minaj will soon be eyeing the Billboard 200 crown, as she announced the release date for her forthcoming Pink Friday 2 album last week.

Barbie arrives in theaters on July 21. The accompanying star-studded, Mark Ronson-produced soundtrack is also due that day, boasting Ice Spice, Minaj, PinkPantheress, Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi.
