Keke Palmer Announced As Host Of This Years Soul Train Awards

Keke Palmer is right in the middle of a firestorm of news that has been following her for months. Much of it has been drama revolving around her relationship which started earlier this year. She had a rather innocuous interaction between Palmer and Usher during one of the R&B singer’s Las Vegas shows. But it turned into a full blown controversy when her boyfriend Darius Jackson commented on the matter online.

But later this month, Palmer is taking a break from the genre to serve as the host of this year’s Soul Train awards. “Keke Palmer is a globally recognized multihyphenate talent who embodies confidence and positivity, and is one of the most engaging and lovable personalities working in entertainment today,” their announcement statement began. “We can’t wait to have her host the Soul Train Awards house party. BET gave Keke her first talk show, where she made history as the youngest talk show host in television, and today we are honored to have her back on the Soul Train Awards stage,” they continued. Palmer is also set to perform at the show alongside artists like Coco Jones, Fridayy, BJ The Chicago Kid, Muni Long, and more. Check out the full announcement below.

Keke Palmer Takes On Hosting Duties

The drama between Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson was re-ignited a few days ago. Last week, she filed official motions in court to officially get a restraining order against Jackson and secure custody of their children. She was very quickly granted temporary victories in both. But Palmer will still have to return to court in December to fight the full legal battle. Unsurprisingly, the drama sparked plenty of comments and observations from many in the celebrity world. Two of the most notable people to weigh in were Jackson’s brother and Palmer’s mother.

Fans can tune into this year’s award show on November 26 when it airs on BET. What do you think of Keke Palmer being tapped to host the award show? Let us know in the comment section below.

The Grammy-nominated artist took a few moments to show her appreciation to her black female fanbase for believing in her. “I just wanted to thank black women, specifically. But, before anyone who had bought my albums or thought I was cute and I had anything on Billboard, black women came to my shows.” She continues, “They stood up for me from the jump, they connected with me and I’m so, so grateful to be black and amongst family.” Interestingly, some fans loved her speech while others thought it was a bit strange. 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards’ Best Breakthrough Artist Prize Goes To Ice Spice

Ice Spice has had her perfectly manicured foot on our necks since she first blew up with “Munch (Feelin’ U)” over a year ago. At this point in her career, the 23-year-old has collaborated with the likes of Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, broken countless streaming records, and graced the cover of various publications. She hardly feels like a “breakthrough” artist seeing as she’s skyrocketed to heights far above her contemporaries. However, at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards last night, that’s the prize the New York native left with.

Others nominated in the category this year include Armani White, Central Cee, and Finesse2tymes. Several women were also on the list, including Kaliii, Lola Brooke, and Sexyy Red. The final competitor for Spice is actually her good friend and upcoming tour mate, Doechii. Obviously only one of them could win, but it’s safe to say that Doja Cat will be in great company as she travels around North America to perform her new Scarlet album.

Ice Spice Gets Her Flowers from BET

As Billboard reports, the artist taking home the most awards was Kendrick Lamar. The West Coast superstar earned trophies for hip-hop artist of the year, best live performer, lyricist of the year, and video director of the year in tandem with Dave Free. Much to our surprise, a handful of heavy hitters were on the BET snub list, including Cardi B, Burna Boy, and DJ Khaled. The Hustlers actress tied with 21 Sav for most nods, but ultimately came up empty-handed. As for the latter two, each had seven nominations that resulted in zero wins.

Last night’s BET Hip Hop Awards were full of some big moments for the music industry, though not all of them were positive. The evening’s host, Fat Joe, certainly kept us entertained with his various outfit changes, though he’s still facing backlash for mispronouncing Sexyy Red’s signature catchphrase. Check out the full list of 2023 winners at the link below, and tap back in later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Timbaland & Swizz Beatz Win Cultural Influence Award, “Verzuz” To Return: “We’re Gonna Come Back Strong”

The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards were another success, which is no surprise given the fact that it has been airing for 17 years. So many fantastic artists and producers were in the house for the evening and there were plenty of great moments throughout it. One of which was Timbaland and Swizz Beatz taking the hardware for the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award. They are the third winners of it, with it debuting back in 2021. It is great recognition for these two iconic producers who have been pushing hip-hop music forward for decades now. Both gave their sincerest thanks to the fans during their speeches.

Billboard shared some quotables from Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Timb got things started, “I always dreamed I’d be on stage accepting an award about hip-hop. Doing music back in Virginia, I never thought I’d make it, but I’m here.” However, besides being appreciative and humble about the win, he had more to share. “Me and my brother created something special, and it ain’t over. Black-owned, Verzuz, me and Swizz Beatz. I’m glad to share this with my brother.”

Timbaland And Swizz Beatz Accept The Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award

We heard some rumblings earlier this year about a third season, but it seems to be closer to returning. Swizz repeated a similar message. “We own Verzuz again. We got quiet for a minute, but we’re gonna come back strong and show you what it is. That wasn’t just something for the pandemic; that’s something for the world.” With plenty of legends showing up to their show in the past and the news about a new format, this is shaping up to be epic.

What are your initial thoughts on Timbaland and Swizz Beatz winning the Rock The Bells Cultural Influence Award? Are you excited for the return of Verzuz? Do you think it will be an improvement over the previous format? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Drake And 21 Savage’s “Her Loss” Takes Home Album Of The Year At BET Hip-Hop Awards

The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards took place last night (October 10) at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Plenty of of the genre’s hottest artists were up to win some major awards. One category that everyone would like to win is the coveted Album of the Year honor. The albums that were nominated are as follows: GloRilla’s Anyways, Life’s Great…, Coi Leray’s COI, DJ Khaled’s GOD DID, Metro Boomin’s HEROES & VILLAINS, Jack Harlow’s Jackman.Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape and Megan Thee Stallion’s Traumazine. However, we did not mention one more. That would be Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss.

The duo would be selected as the winners of this prestigious award. To some, it might be a tad bit shocking, though. You can make the argument for Metro Boomin’s project. So many hits landed on it and it is when his takeover started. While the radio-friendly hits were not what Jack Harlow was shooting for, it might be the most lyrically dense and consistently thematic record out of all the nominees. However, you cannot deny that Drake and 21 Savage did their thing (pun intended) with Her Loss.

Here Is Why Drake And 21 Savage Won This Award

It was a commercial success, with XXL saying it sold 404,000 units first week. To put that in perspective, Metro’s sold 185,000. Furthermore, the amount of major songs here is ridiculous. “Rich Flex” took the internet by storm for better or worse. Then you also have “Major Distribution,” “P***y & Millions,” “Circo Loco,” and more. For the icing on the cake, it has never left the Billboard 200 Chart. It is at 48 weeks and counting and is in the top 25 still.

What are your initial thoughts on Drake and 21 Savage’s album Her Loss winning Album of the Year at the BET Hip-Hop Awards? Do you think this project was deserving of the honor over the other options? Which track is your favorite off of this collaborative effort? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Will Smith 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards Performance Would’ve Happened If Fat Joe Had His Way

Today (October 10), the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards will be airing after filming took place in Atlanta last week. We got a look at what some of our favourite stars wore on the red carpet already, but when it comes to what went down inside, there’s still much to be seen on the small screen this evening. Fat Joe was tapped to host the annual ceremony, and ahead of its premiere, he spoke with PEOPLE about the artist he desperately wanted to see perform, but unfortunately couldn’t secure.

“You know who I didn’t successfully get was Will Smith,” the Terror Squad lyricist confessed, revealing that his hope was to have the actor do a hip-hop 50 tribute. “I was really trying to get Will Smith to come out and do ‘Summer Time’. He’s filming ‘Bad Boys,’ but we tried. We try to pull off a miracle if we can. We try to pull a cloud out of the sky,” Joe additionally noted.

Fat Joe Wanted to See Will Smith Perform “Summertime”

As for what viewers can expect to see, increased confidence from the 53-year-old is on the list. This marks his second year MCing the event, which he’s long been preparing for. “I always think back to being in junior high and doing the talent shows and then Apollo Theater Amateur Night and it all leads to this. And so it’s an honour for me,” Joe revealed. He also shared that we’ll see a total of eight outfit changes throughout the evening in an attempt to keep up with the notoriously stylish women of rap.

He may not have been able to come through for the annual BET Hip Hop Awards, but that doesn’t mean Will Smith isn’t still bringing new contributions to the genre. Just last month he announced that his Class of ’88 podcast will be coming soon to examine the world of rap during his younger years. Read more about that project at the link below, and let us know if you’ll be watching Fat Joe on hosting duty later this evening in the comments.

Cardi B & Offset Pretend To Have Sex In The Bathroom At The VMAs

Cardi B was at the MTV Video Music Awards last night. Overall, she has become a staple of the event in recent years. However, in 2023, she was there for a multitude of reasons. Among them was the fact that she has a new song out with none other than Megan Thee Stallion. This song is called “Bongos,” and during the festivities last night, she got to perform it for the very first time. Overall, the performance went extremely well, and fans were mesmerized by the visuals that they were seeing.

One person who enjoyed the performance quite a bit was none other than her husband, Offset. The two have been a power couple in hip-hop, even if there have been a few controversies here and there. The former Migos rapper was in the crowd dancing to the performance and having a great time. Although it was the festivities in the bathroom that probably got Offset the most excited. In the video below, you can see how he and Cardi B pretended to have sex in front of the bathroom mirror.

Cardi B & Offset Get Freaky

Throughout the clip, Cardi B trolls bathroom-goers by moaning and talking in a high-pitched voice. At one point, someone comes into the bathroom and all they can do is laugh. Considering the situation, that is probably the appropriate response. The video was eventually posted to Cardi’s Instagram story, and it has since been making the rounds online. If one thing is for sure, however, it is that the VMAs were one huge party last night.

Overall, there were a ton of great performances and some phenomenal award winners. Moreover, Nicki Minaj did a great job hosting the event as she gave us a ton of amazing music. It was a huge success, and fans were more than happy with how it all went down. Let us know your thoughts on the VMAs, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the music world.

Megan Thee Stallion & Justin Timberlake’s Seemingly Heated Exchange Gets An Explanation

Megan Thee Stallion had a big night at the MTV Video Music Awards. Overall, it was the first time that she got to perform the song “Bongos” live. The song is with Cardi B, and the two certainly did a great job with their performance. There was a lot going on here, especially as the two came through with a unique set that speaks to the overall vibe of the song. Regardless of how you may feel about this new single, there is no doubt that it performs well to an audience.

Unfortunately, Megan Thee Stallion was going viral last night for other reasons. In clips that began circulating on Twitter, she could be seen having an animated conversation with Justin Timberlake. Fans immediately made the claim that they had some sort of argument. There was a sense of confusion on social media as fans couldn’t believe what might be occurring. However, some well-timed community notes eventually revealed what truly happened.

Megan Thee Stallion Was Just Happy

As Variety reports, Meg was simply extremely excited to meet Justin. She has always been a big fan, and she wasn’t super stoked about the circumstances in which they were meeting for the first time. “He said, ‘It’s so nice to meet you,’ and she said, ‘No, no this don’t count, this don’t count. We gotta meet proper,’” a source revealed to the publication. “It was very cute.” A second witness followed this up by saying the exact same thing. Needless to say, this was all a total misunderstanding.

It was a big night for Justin Timberlake as well considering he got to reunite with NSYNC for a performance. This brought forth a ton of late 90s and early 2000s nostalgia. If you are a fan of his, then last night’s performance definitely serves as a must-watch. Let us know what you thought of the VMAs, in the comments section below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news and updates from around the music world. We will always keep you informed.

Nicki Minaj Is VMAs Ready: “Toes Did, Booty Hole Waxed”

If you’re wondering why today (September 12) has a Friday sort-of feel to it, it’s likely because many stars are continuing on with their weekend shenanigans well into Tuesday. Photo dumps from New York Fashion Week are still surfacing all over Instagram, but many pop culture fanatics have instead shifted their focus to another annual celebration – the MTV Video Music Awards. Nicki Minaj is on hosting duty for the second year in a row, and she’s also set to perform. Others like Lil Wayne, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B are on the schedule too, and that doesn’t even begin to cover those who have been nominated.

The Queen rapper’s bold personality and infectious sense of humour obviously make her the perfect choice to host the VMAs. Twitter is already buzzing with excitement about what Minaj has up her sleeve. “Nicki finna be on time today ‘cuz she can’t wait to run dat mouth,” one person speculated. Much to the OP’s excitement, the mother of one found time in her busy preparation schedule to confirm that she’ll be showing out this evening.

Nicki Minaj Gives an Update Ahead of the VMAs

“Yup. I’m READY B!CH! Toes did, booty 🕳 waxed ⬇,” the Young Money alum declared. Along with her NSFW announcement, Minaj included a funny photo of Peggy Hill from King of the Hill and her notoriously large feet. Social media has been speculating that we could see some drama between the Trinidadian and Cardi, but seeing as she’s on the clock, our bets are that she’ll keep things mostly professional.

Nicki Minaj isn’t the only female superstar enjoying her time in the spotlight this week. 19-year-old Coco Gauff took home a massive win in the U.S. Open over the weekend, and while celebrating, she posted a video of her rapping along to the Queen of Rap’s “Barbie World” collaboration with Ice Spice.
