However, users online believe that one of the parties have found a new boo. After a photo (viewable here) of Offset attending a New York Fashion Week event posed next to Bad Gyal went viral, people assumed that he was soft launching his new girlfriend. However, yesterday (September 7), Offset denied the rumor by way of a X (formerly Twitter) post.
“I took a pic with Anna Wintour the same way,” he wrote. “I CAME ALONE .”
Although Bad Gyal, a Spanish singer, model and DJ, attended CFDA’s NYFW ribbon cutting ceremony at Rockefeller Center on September 6 she wasn’t the only women entertainer present. TDE’s multi-hyphenate talent Doechii was also invited as a special guest. In a subtle upload in her Instagram Stories, Bad Gyal seemingly shut down the report posting an image of her, Doechii, and Offset together.
This isn’t the first time Offset came forward to diss dating rumors. In December 2023, Offset slammed Blueface’s claim that he was secretly involved with his ex and son’s mother, reality TV personality and rapper Chrisean Rock.
This year’s Met Gala saw the likes of Cardi B flaunting a massive black dress that took nine people to carry. We also witnessed Usher don a huge black cape and sequin suit and Lizzo wearing a dress that made her look like a tree. One of the official livestream hosts was Gwendoline Christie, whose haircut seemed to simulate Cruella de Vil after electrocution. The utter flamboyancy of this annual May pop fashion event has the dual effect of dazzling onlookers and overshadowing its long and complex history.
For one, this always-anticipated Manhattan affair has an impact beyond showcasing wild looks and entertaining the masses: it is a philanthropic event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This institute plays a vital role in fashion history and archiving—it has preserved more than 33,000 pieces of dress and accessories from the 1400s to the present day. Ok, so the Met Gala is an entertaining fundraiser for a fashion museum, but how did all of this come about in the first place? It turns out there are a handful of behind-the-scenes actors who helped make the spectacle we see today a reality.
Irene Lewisohn & The Museum Of Costume Art
It might sound strange at first, but the Met Gala might not exist today if it wasn’t for the achievements of a Victorian-era German-Jewish immigrant to New York. When Leonard Lewisohn, president of the United Metals Selling Company in the late 19th century, died in 1902, he had amassed an estate worth nearly half a billion dollars in today’s money. His daughter Irene was just 15 years old at the time of his passing, but she would directly inherit a sizeable portion of his fortune.
This provided the means for her and her sister, Alice, to focus on producing drama and dance performances throughout their 20s and eventually found the Neighborhood Playhouse. It later became a full-fledged school of theatre that still operates today. As a result of producing plays and operating the school, Irene gained a vast knowledge of costume design, theater production, and other related topics during these years. Wanting to make this knowledge accessible to the public, she decided to establish the Museum of Costume Art with her colleague Aline Bernstein in 1937 as a home for an extensive library.
Dorothy Shaver & The Costume Institute
Then-president of Lord & Taylor—and legendary American fashion industry leader—Dorothy Shaver had begun to take notice of Lewisohn and Beinstein’s efforts after the Museum was opened. And, when Irene passed away in 1944, Shaver put into motion a plan she’d been mulling over. Shaver had the idea of making the Museum part of the larger Metropolitan Museum of Art, as she believed this move could only nourish and reinforce the American fashion industry. Using her deep connections within the world of clothing manufacturing, Shaver successfully convinced a range of garment producers to help her finance the transaction. The purchase and move were finalized in 1946, and the Museum of Costume Art officially became The Costume Institute.
Eleanor Lambert & The Met Gala
Eleanor Lambert, an aspiring sculptor turned fashion publicist, was instrumental in the birth of the Met Gala. After working as an advertiser for art galleries and artists in Manhattan during the Roaring Twenties, Lambert went on to have a hand in founding the Museum of Modern Art and also represented Jackson Pollack for a time. Lambert would begin planning the inaugural Met Gala in 1946 after the death of Irene Lewisohn and Dorothy Shaver’s facilitation of The Costume Institute’s merger with the Met.
As a prominent fashion publicist, Lambert was, of course, aware of the Insitute. But it was when the Institute’s administrators who were seeking help to fundraise for its expenses that a connection was first made. Lambert devised a “Party of the Year” event in November 1948 (not May!) as a way to solicit donations. This party would initially take the form of a midnight dinner. Interestingly, this initial version of the Met Gala didn’t happen at the Met! It would shift venues annually, moving from Rockefeller Center’s Rainbow Room to Central Park, then to the Waldorf Astoria, and so on.
For its first decade, it was only covered by one publication: Women’s Wear Daily. It initially cost $50 for a ticket (about $650 in 2024) and wasn’t an invite-only event. It would continue this way for quite some time, billed essentially as a fashion industry get-together. That is, until Diana Vreeland, Vogue’s editor-in-chief during much of the ’60s, would come to transform the event in the early ’70s.
Diana Vreeland & The Birth Of The Modern Met Gala
A notorious eccentric with extravagant tastes, Vogue fired Vreeland from her leading position in 1971. She would then enter the world of the Met as a consultant. Vreeland took the opportunity to apply her unbridled creativity to both The Costume Institute’s exhibitions and its annual fundraising event. She would go on to radically upscale the event into a flamboyant, eye-catching extravaganza. What we see when we watch videos or look at photos from the Met Gala today is largely indebted to Vreeland’s craftsmanship.
Vreeland curated many elaborate exhibitions for The Costume Institue during her time at the Met, but it was “The World of Balenciaga”—the exhibit she masterminded in 1973—that would prove to rocket Lambert’s original “Party of the Year” into the who’s-who of fundraisers. The 1973 exhibit and the party both took place at The Met and featured specially designed decorations and a very posh multi-course meal for guests. Vreeland would continue to grow and magnify the Gala over the years by calling on her influential connections. She had the likes of Jackie Kenndy Onassis, ex-Supremes frontwoman Diana Ross, and men’s fashion icon Ralph Lauren play a part in the event to help it become the world-renowned celebration we witness each year. New York and London have both successfully wrapped up their Fashion Weeks for another season. Now, it’s Milan’s turn to enjoy the spotlight as our favourite stars flock to Italy to catch what will be trending during S/S 2024. Among those making headlines overseas ahead of the weekend include Halle Bailey and DDG, namely due to pregnancy rumours surrounding the former. They hit up the Gucci runway together, where Bad Bunny was also out with his boo, Kendall Jenner.
The latter couple made their front row debut while sitting with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour on Friday (September 22). When they first started spending time together in February, some speculated that the rapper and model were nothing more than a PR relationship. However, they’ve since proven that they have great chemistry and similar interests which have allowed them to bond, even with a language barrier. As PEOPLE notes, the Gucci presentation marked the first collection from Creative Director Sabato De Sarno, and he certainly made an impression on his audience.
Kendall Jenner and Bad Bunny Make Their Fashion Week Debut
Channelling the Italian house’s effortlessly chic vibes, the “K-POP” artist wore an oversized white button-up shirt, his collar dramatically popped above his shoulders. He accessorized with a beige beanie, rectangular black shades, and gold hoop earrings. Classic blue jeans and black dress shoes made up the bottom half of his look. Jenner proved that she’s practically an expert on Italian style at this point in her career, covering up her famous figure in a trench coat. The couple didn’t go over the top by wearing identical ensembles and instead opted to compliment each other by coordinating colours and silhouettes.
He’s been spotted doing plenty of smooching with Kendall Jenner throughout the summer, but that’s not the only kiss of Bad Bunny’s that was caught on camera recently. In the newly released film, Cassandro, he and actor Gael Garcia Bernal share a steamy kiss that still has the internet talking. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
Billy Porter recently voiced his frustration with Anna Wintour’s decision to have Harry Styles on the cover of Vogue back in 2020. While speaking with Telegraph, he explained his issue with Styles becoming the poster boy for expressing gender fluidity in fashion. To begin, Porter recalled speaking with Wintour at a Q&A in front of staff from Conde Nast.
“That b—- said to me at the end, ‘How can we do better?’ And I was so taken off guard that I didn’t say what I should have said,” Porter admitted. When asked what exactly she should have said, he answered: “Use your power as Vogue to uplift the voices of the leaders of this de-gendering of fashion movement … Six months later, Harry Styles is the first man on the cover.”
Billy Porter With Anna Wintour During London Fashion Week
From there, Porter admitted that the issue isn’t necessarily Styles’ fault. “It’s not Harry Styles’s fault that he happens to be white and cute and straight and fit into the infrastructure that way … I call out the gatekeepers,” he said. “I know David Bowie existed, I know Sylvester existed,” he continued while adding that Styles is “white and he’s straight. That’s why he’s on the cover. Non-binary blah blah blah blah. No. It doesn’t feel good to me. You’re using my community – or your people are using my community – to elevate you. You haven’t had to sacrifice anything.”
While Styles made headlines for rocking a dress on the cover of Vogue, he’s far from the first musician to do so. As Porter noted, David Bowie wore dresses on many occasions, including on the alternate cover of his album, The Man Who Sold the World. Young Thug also famous rocked a dress on the cover of Jeffery.
Drake and 21 Savage’s joint It’s All A Blur Tour has several questionable visual aid choices. Some of these are holograms. One of the most discussed images included a swimming giant sperm and a young Drake lookalike that Drake himself interacts with during the show. Attendees of the latest tour stop just spotted one creepy new addition to the collection: an Anna Wintour -inspired hologram.
Fans took to TikTok to share clips of the onscreen projection, jokingly calling out the entertainers for being petty about their feud with American Vogue‘s editor-in-chief. Although neither of the musicians has outrightly said that the hologram is pulled from Wintour’s likeness, the precise bob cut and bang combo, along with the conspicuous black designer sunglasses, leave little room for guessing.
The pair’s supposed legal settlement with Vogue‘s publisher Condé Nast furthers attendees’ speculation. The company initially sued Drake and 21 Savage for trademark infringement after the duo’s marketing teams released a fake Vogue cover to promote their album, Her Loss, in late 2022. Although Vogue wasn’t the only media company’s branding to be included in the project’s rollout, it appears Condé Nast was the only one to take legal action.
Meanwhile, NPR Music was flattered by the pair using their Tiny Desk Concert series set-up for a phony promotional video. The social media team for the series even invited Drake and 21 Savage actually to film an episode.
When Drake and 21 Savage were first promoting Her Loss in November 2022, one tactic they used was a collection of fake Vogue covers. The hyper-realistic mockups were enough to convince many fans that a special edition of the long-running magazine was in the works. The promotional material even convinced several news outlets to report that the pair would be featured on a Vogue cover in the near future. However, Vogue was unimpressed. Led by long-time editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, the magazine sued the two rappers. The mockup also included nods to Howard Stern and NPR.
The problem, it appeared, was that Drake and Savage had advertised the magazine as real. Drake had gone as far as to make a post on Instagram that tagged the magazine and explicitly thanked Wintour “for the love and support on this historic moment.” Condé Nast reportedly sought $4 million in damages and eventually settled out of court with the rappers. While it’s unknown if Drake and Savage paid the full $4 million, it is believed that the settlement was in the millions.
Anna Wintour Mocked With It’s All A Blur Hologram
However, it appears that Drake and Savage are looking to get the last laugh about the whole thing. TikToks that appear to be from the pair’s shows in Boston on July 11 and 12 highlight an intriguing piece of set design. Fans spotted a giant, unflattering hologram of Wintour’s head multiple times during the concert. No one from the tour has officially confirmed that it’s Wintour. Despite this, the signature bob and sunglasses very much give it away. Furthermore, Drake posted the image, which appears to have been AI-generated, on his Instagram earlier this week.
Additional videos appear to indicate that the visual is best viewed during “Jimmy Cooks”. During the song, the hologram dons the iconic sunglasses and laughs evilly. Furthermore, this reveals a mouth full of discolored and rotting teeth. It appears that the two rappers aren’t afraid to poke the bear. Obviously, there’s very little Wintour could do from a legal perspective. However, there are a few social consequences that she could levy instead. For example, don’t expect to see Drake or Savage attending next year’s Met Gala.
Cardi B slayed this year’s Met Gala. This Monday (May 1), several of the biggest names in art and culture gathered at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum Of Art for Anna Wintour‘s annual benefit dinner. During the duration of the ceremony, the “Up” hitmaker stunned with three iconic looks.
Like many of the attendees, Cardi broke Wintour’s no-selfie rule, but of course, she looked to bomb not to invite back. Following Monday’s events, she shared a festive carousel of photos on Instagram.
During the Met Gala, it appears Cardi took a break so her four-year-old daughter, Kulture, could FaceTime with singer Billie Eilish. A screenshot of the three on FaceTime can be seen in the carousel.
This is a 180 from last year’s Met Gala, where Billie was rumored to have said Cardi’s performance was “so weird.” Shortly after, Cardi shared a message between the two, which cleared up any sort of rumors of a beef between them. She wrote, “I hate the internet ’cause one, how do y’all turn one of the most lit parties into drama? Two, [Eilish’s ‘Ocean Eyes’] is the song I cater to my daughter. Three, Billie is my f*ckin baby. Yesterday, from the met to the party, everything was drama free. Why do y’all wanna turn everything into mess?”

Doja Cat’s outfit for the 2023 Met Gala was definitely enough to keep her on the internet’s mind all week long. Nevertheless, we’ve barely begun to cover her antics yet. The California-born singer dressed as the late Karl Lagerfeld’s adored cat, Choupette, for her saunter down the red carpet. She was committed to the bit far beyond just her look. While speaking with Emma Chamberlain during a Vogue interview that’s currently going viral, Doja answered the YouTuber’s questions only with meows, leaving her obviously very confused.
While that moment was certainly hilarious, the “Best Friend” hitmaker was caught on camera in the background of another interview. Her cat-like appearance is obviously enough to earn a giggle. However, seeing her stare off into oblivion while hitting a vape in the middle of the Met Gala is sending some social media users into a tailspin. Doja appears to be unbothered by the fact that she’s committing a major no-no in breaking Anna Wintour’s no-smoking rule, though it’s worth noting she isn’t the first to do so.
Doja Cat Caught Vaping on Camera
Many celebrities have shared sneaky selfies taken from inside the historic event, some of which show stars lighting up cigarettes in bathrooms, among other places. Some fans can’t help but see the comedy in the situation, writing messages like, “Doja Cat at the Met Gala vaping convinced me to start vaping,” and “Doja Cat dressed like a cat vaping at the Met Gala should be a picture featured in history books.” Others, however, are disappointed to see her still consuming nicotine after previously cancelling concerts as a result of her throat surgery.
“No shade but she cancelled her performance the day before Hangout Fest last year (due to her throat procedure) and it broke my heart. I can’t believe she’s still vaping,” one upset user vented. Keep scrolling to see Twitter’s mixed reactions to Doja Cat’s antics. Afterward, tell us if you think the fashionista should’ve held off on satisfying her craving until wrapping up on the red carpet in the comments.
Lizzo is in New York City, and she pulled up to Anna Wintour’s place last night for a pre-Met Gala dinner. The singer was snapped by paparazzi heading into the Vogue editor-in-chief’s home. In the photos, Lizzo is all smiles in a beautiful purple ensemble. She was flanked by assistants carrying umbrellas to shield her from the torrential downpour that was taking place at the time. It hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s expected that Lizzo will attend the Met Gala once again this year. She filled her fans in on how unglamorous fashion’s biggest night really is, at least to her … first complaining about the “long f***ing line” she had to wait in. She added there was no place to sit, either — saying “B***h? Can we get some chairs or some drinks or some hors d’oeuvres?”
Despite appearing happy and excited, Lizzo may have been mentally preparing herself for the wrath of Anna Wintour. Last May, the “Truth Hurts” singer took to Instagram Live to express her disappointment in the 2022 Met Gala. There, she criticized various aspects such as the alcohol options and photographers. Lizzo was allegedly supposed to perform a flute solo on the red carpet, but she only played part of it. According to her, it was because of paparazzi heckling. Lizzo’s frustrations continued when she finally made it inside, where a waiter informed her that only red or white wine was available, causing her to become even more agitated while searching for tequila.
Lizzo’s Luxurious Limo Pics
Lizzo posted some pictures from last night on her Instagram, as well. In the photos, she lounges in a limousine with her beau. Making use of various poses, the singer took advantage of the sexy setting and styling. Purple is definitely Lizzo’s color. The pop star looked positively radiant in her long gown and sunglasses. She captioned the post with the words “icons don’t sleep.”
Fans flooded the comment section on Lizzo’s Instagram post with support and love. “You definitely slaying in this purple mama,” one user said. “Prince would be proud.” More chimed in to point out how good the color looked on her, as well. “That purple on you >>>>>” another said. Others simply thanked Lizzo for being who she was. “You are so beautiful and inspiring!” one fan said. “Thank you for helping with my daughter without even knowing it!” For now, it looks like Lizzo is all smiles about tonight’s Met Gala. Let’s hope it’s better than last year for her! What do you think of Lizzo’s purple look? Let us know in the comments!
Ice Spice is doing it up and doing it big. It was just announced via TMZ that the Bronx rapper will be attending tonight’s Met Gala. Not only that, she will be attending as a special guest of Anna Wintour herself. It is a huge honor for the rapper as many don’t ever get the honor of being a special guest of the person who controls the entire event. TMZ has also reported that the hitmaker will be wearing a custom-designed Balmain look.
Ice is everywhere these days. She is one of the latest viral sensations who is experiencing a huge amount of fame due to TikTok. Last year, she dropped her acclaimed EP, Like..?. Since then, Ice has been hailed as the new princess of rap. She has been praised by contemporaries and even given the co-sign by industry legends like Nicki Minaj. The duo recently released their collaboration, “Princess Diana.” The song was originally part of Ice’s EP, but Nicki hopped on the remix with a killer verse. This catapulted the song to the number 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ice Spice Partners With Vogue and Ebay
Last night, Ice Spice posted a teaser video that hinted she would be attending the Met Gala. “Hi, It’s Ice Spice and I’m partnering with Vogue and eBay for a very special announcement coming to you on the first Monday in May,” Ice says in the video. “Join me for fashion’s biggest night out. You do not want to miss this. Stay tuned.” Fans were quick to point out just how big of a deal it was for someone as new to the scene as Ice to get invited.
“Ice Spice went from being dismissed as a meme and a ‘one hit wonder’ with Munch, but now she has 2 Top 10s and has 3 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 at once, & also being invited to the met gala with NO ALBUM OUT,” one fan tweeted. “As an og fan, proud is an understatement of how i feel right now.” Another said, “Ice Spice isn’t just invited to the met gala my girl is getting SPONSORED by VOGUE. She has direct lines with Anna Wintour.” Clearly, as evidenced by the new report by TMZ, Ice will be in attendance. Stay tuned to HNHH for more Met Gala news and coverage!
