D4vd Wonders “Where’d It Go Wrong?” On His New Single

Believe it or not, d4vd, Houston, Texas singer-songwriter, has not put out a debut album yet. He’s been in the industry for about three years now, but he’s held back from putting out a true LP. The “Romantic Homicide” artist does have a collection of EPs (Petals to Thorns, The Lost Petals, etc.) and whole slew of singles. But it seems he’s inching slightly closer to pulling the trigger with this new record, “Where’d it Go Wrong?” which hit streaming platforms this weekend.

According to Genius, it will be titled Withered, and a 2025 release looks to be the most realistic expectation right now. With that said, a specific day has yet to be revealed. But this song should tide fans over for a bit as it’s one of d4vd’s most personal ones to date. Part of the reason why is because according to Hypebeast, the 19-year-old Darkroom signee recorded this track at his childhood home in his closet. In terms of the equipment, he went back to his stripped back and raw roots by using BandLab and his iPhone. D4vd shared with the outlet how much it meant to him to lay down this single in this fashion. “This song reminded me why I’ve always loved making music on my own.” The passion is certainly there on all fronts, so make sure you check it out below.

Quotable Lyrics:

And I don’t really want your love no more, I swear, ’cause I don’t need it
And I don’t mean to be conceited
But I’m the reason you’re still breathin’
I’ll stop picking up your calls, ’cause you won’t stop screamin’
Is it love or lust? I can tell you’re feenin’
And I don’t wanna hurt your feelings

BigBabyGucci Proves To Be A Best Kept Secret With “Anti” LP

BIGBABYGUCCI has been an unsung hero in the underground realm. The North Carolina native is also one of the most prolific, dropping multiple projects almost every year since launching his career in 2016. What makes him so unique is his ability to traverse multiple genres and their subsets with relative ease. It’s why we began taking a closer look at his material dating back to 2022. However, we wish we could say we have been covering him longer, because he’s a special talent. While it hasn’t resulted in a major support system yet, we take pride in saying that we know his music exists. We got back to following BIGBABYGUCCI earlier this year ahead of his most recent body of work, Baby 5.

However, he isn’t wasting much time in between that project and now. This weekend BIGBABYGUCCI came back with Anti, which hears the multi-genre act tackle alternative R&B beats for a full tape. Baby 5 was a diverse listening experience. But it was a little bloated and repetitive at times due its massive tracklist. Anti is only 16 tracks, and it helps keep each track sounding fresher the further you progress. Out of all of the albums we have checked out, this may be our favorite one to date. Once again, GUCCI’s production choices are top-notch and pretty experimental for the sound he’s working with. It also showcases how much of a Swiss army knife he is. There are a lot of keepers on Anti, and we recommend you check it for yourself.

Zach Zoya Opts For An Alternative Soundscape On His Cheery “It’s Always Sunny In Glendale” EP

Zach Zoya is a pretty eclectic guy and doesn’t really conform to one genre and he shows that blissful ignorance on It’s Always Sunny in Glendale. This the fourth EP from the Canadian youngster, who made this project based on some experiences between Montreal and Los Angeles, as well as Glendale. In his announcement, Zoya said, “New city, new vibes, new energy, new people around me, new trials and tribulations, new ups and downs. Safe to say this past year has been a deeply challenging and formative one,” he began. “I only get to do what I do because of the team behind me, friends around, music lovers everywhere. Thank you to everyone who’s helped me make this project a reality. What a life, spent my twenties chasing sunshine🧡🧡🧡🧡.”

Clearly, this project has a lot of personal weight in his eyes, and we can hear the passion in each track. Whether he’s singing or rapping, he’s making sure to bring it 110% every time. Throughout the 17-minute listening experience, it’s definitely taking us back to those hotter months as the grooves and instrumentals embody the West Coast. You can tell that Zoya was heavily inspired by the new sights he got to witness during the making of Always Sunny in Glendale. The project arrives after a highly raved performance at Osheaga earlier in the year. So, overall, he’s definitely on a high right now and we are here for it.

Foushee Pays Homage To A Loved One With “Pointy Heights”

Foushee is an incredibly fascinating talent that needs to continue to get more attention. The New Jersey native with roots in Jamaica pretty much combines her eclectic background into her music. You will never hear her not try something new whether it be on a single, project, or feature. On her latest record, Pointy Heights, Foushee is toying around with alternative in so many ways and that’s partially thanks to her varied production team. Steve Lacy is the biggest name here, and perhaps has the most influence on the direction of the sounds. However, there’s also BNYX, Jean Baptiste, Carter Lang, and more.

What’s also fun about this project is the connection that it has. Pointy Heights is a reference to her grandfather. “pointy heights is a mile & a half long area located right outside of old harbor jamaica founded by my grandfather pointy. they called him pointy bc he was pint sized 🙂 this album is dedicated to him, the fam & the community”. Leading up to the release, Foushee did share quite a bit of it’s brief 10-song 27-minute long tracklist. Four were dropped off from the end of July up until the 11th of this month. Those include “still around”, “war”, “100 bux”, and “feel like home” were all included in the roll out. Again, they all manage to sound drastically different from one another. Across it, you hear elements of doo-wop, alternative rock, and more. See why we and many others are co-signing Foushee’s new release with the links below.

Jean Dawson & Lil Yachty Deliver Emotionally Excellent Single “Die For Me”

Jean Dawson and Lil Yachty are two of the best when it comes to working in multiple genres. The former has done so on multiple occasions this year already on songs like “New Age Crisis”, “fIT chECK fREEsTYle”, and more. As for the Georgia native, you just have to look at Bad Cameo and Let’s Start Here. With their respective risks under their belts, Lil Yachty and Jean Dawson are forming an alliance on this new single, “Die For Me”. On this track, both are singing and rapping passionately over a grand instrumental that continues to raise its intensity level each second.

Essentially, Dawson and Yachty don’t want anyone to remember them, especially if they aren’t willing to lay their own life down for them. Additionally, the message could be for a woman or anyone that claims to be close to them. “I bet somebody love me, no / After I’ve died, we’ll see / Don’t show up at my funeral / If you won’t die for me“, Dawson belts on the chorus. Yachty also puts in memorable and crazed performance, as he notches another successful collaboration for 2024. “I can’t fathom you being with no other / I love you more than I love my mother / Love your mother ’cause you came from her / I’m a psycho, but it’s ’cause I love you“. BIGBABYGUCCI Displays His Range Across 22 Tracks On “Baby 5”

BIGBABYGUCCI has been developing an expansive sound for quite a long time all while remaining supremely underrated. One of Charlotte, North Carolina’s best-kept secrets, he’s flexing his versatility, and it doesn’t come across as half-assed. If you caught the title, BIGBABYGUCCI is doing so on his newest album, Baby 5. His 13th studio LP, this project comes on the heels of multiple promotional singles such as “Captain Crashout”, “Pink Sprite”, “You a Joke”, and “Temporary”. Based on what we heard heading into this listening experience, we grew more and more excited for what was to come. Overall, it’s safe to say that we have been more than happy with the final results.

22 songs might automatically turn a lot of people off. Inflated tracklists are a huge problem in today’s streaming era. However, what justifies BIGBABYGUCCI doing this is that he manages to never bore you. According to the press release for Baby 5, the mission was to give off this feeling that you are flipping through television stations with each one presenting a different soundscape. His team describes the first half of the record as the more hype and high-octane side to GUCCI. Then, through the halfway mark, you are hearing softer, vulnerable and more “sophisticated” lyrics and instrumentals. Finally, the last leg is sort of a culmination of the previous two, which shows off just how creative he can get. Overall, there is really something for everyone, so give Baby 5 a try if you are looking to discover someone whose doing things a little differently than your mainstream star.

d4vd Tugs At The Heartstrings With “There Goes My Baby”

Houston, Texas teenage phenom d4vd has become something of a superstar. At just 19 years old he possesses a massive following of 26 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Additionally, he has a tandem of tracks (“Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me”) that are over a billion streams, as well as multiple over 92 million. All of those numbers are well-deserved, too. He just has this natural ability to pen and perform some truly show-stopping and relatable ballads. One of those includes “There Goes My Baby”, which is the latest single from d4vd. This track is about letting someone you love so much walk away. However, instead of having the “if you love something, set it free” mentality, d4vd wants to see this person find peace with someone else and be happy.

Instead of spreading the blame for why things ended to the girl, d4vd comes to a mature realization that he might be the problem. It makes for a very emotional and sobering record, and one that will tug the heartstrings if you are going through something similar. d4vd performed this song live during his My House Is Not A Home Tour and now he is happy for the rest of the world to here is message. “I’m so excited for you to hear it 🥹”, he said in the announcement post for this single on Instagram. We highly encourage you to check this one out for yourself and continue to follow the growth of d4vd.

Jaden Looks Back On His Relationship With Kylie Jenner On “‘Roses’”

Jaden is quite the versatile artist, making it much easier to make tracks like “‘Roses’”, for example. On this meditative and atmospheric alternative single, the son of Will Smith is musing about love. “Roses / Left them at your door ’cause I was hoping (‘Cause I was hoping) / They would lead you home tonight ’cause I (Yeah, okay, I was in the, phew-phew) / Don’t sleep ‘less you’re by my side (Okay, I was in the senseless seas, yeah, I came)“. We have seen him take this route before on tracks before, but things take a turn on the backend.

All our boundaries tested ’em / I act nice, but I’m bad as the rest of ’em / ‘Cept that one night that we found love at the festival / And I left feelin’ hopeless / And we wasn’t the closest when I wrote this, but you still deserve roses“. These are just a few bars on the third verse from “‘Roses’” in which Jaden calls back to his up and down relationship with a teenage Kylie Jenner. This pre-superstar connection was somewhat romantic, but according to Genius, it was never fully confirmed. Furthermore, the festival line is a reference to the music video for his 2014 song “Blue Ocean”, which Kylie was also in. On that song he talks about their Coachella hang out, “Man, I met a girl at Coachella / I like her but you know I couldn’t tell her / ‘Cause she has her own fella“.

Overall, this is an interesting part of the song, mostly because both are so far removed from this fling. It is also out of nowhere, because this is “‘Roses’” is Jaden’s first song is nearly three years. Additionally, 2021 was the last year we got a project from the 25-year-old. Who knows why he decided to look back on this moment in his life, so perhaps stick around with HNHH for any possible developments surrounding “‘Roses’”.

WILLOW Is Breathtaking & Colorful On “Empathogen”

Over the course of WILLOW’s career (Willow Smith), we have seen mature greatly as an artist. She is always experimenting and pushing herself to dabble in multiple genres, sometimes on the same record. For some time, she was pursuing pop punk and post-punk sounds on efforts like <COPINGMECHANISM>. But when WILLOW came through with the lead single for empathogen, “symptoms of life” back in March, it was clear she was taking another artistic detour.

However, this path does not lead to a dead end. WILLOW shows across this 12-song foray into alternative, pop rock, and acoustic that she has plenty of room to grow. In some instances, like “down” for example, there is good chance that she was listening to some Billie Eilish to get some inspiration. But there is a lot more to like than ridicule on empathogen. The lead single still remains to be one of the project’s best, with “the fear is not real,” “false self,” “home,” and “run!” being just a handful.

Listen To Empathogen By WILLOW

Because of this deviation we talked about, WILLOW had some reservations, as many musicians do. But the great ones are willing to put themselves out there, and that was the mindset that she had shared with Popsugar. “This whole album is different from anything I’ve done, and I’m just so excited for people to hear it,” she says. “You always take a little bit of a risk, but I’m a risk-taker, what can I say?”

What are your thoughts on this brand-new album empathogen by WILLOW? How do you feel about the direction that album went sonically, why or why not? Which track is the best out the bunch? Which track did she put on the most acrobatic vocal performance? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Omar Apollo Is Still Hooked On A Past Relationship On “Spite”

Omar Apollo is one of the more unsung talents in the alternative space. He has plenty of high-prolife features for artists such as Kali Uchis, Daniel Caesar, Joji, and more. Apollo also dabbles in Latin music, which can be credited to his Mexican parents. All in all, he is an extremely versatile talent that deserves more recognition for his work. Omar Apollo is back to prove his skillset again with “Spite.”

This is his first offering of 2024 as a whole so far. He did come through in October with a four-track EP called Live For Me. It featured the lead single “Ice Slippin,” and most of the songs were moodier in tone and production. With “Spite” though, Omar brings some more lively and upbeat production courtesy of a guitar and light drums. On this record, he is singing about a relationship that has him strangled.

He has split up with this girl, but he is always thinking about her and the times they spent together. “Why you gotta ruin every night? / Fifty K, I spend it out of spite / Every time I see you on my phone / Hate that I still need you in my life.” Hopefully, we get a new full-length project from him soon. It has been just about two years since that happened. For now, run up “Spite” and its music video above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Spite,” by Omar Apollo? Is this the best track he has dropped as of late, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the track and why?
