Rajon Rondo

Rajon Rondo has officially called it a career.

Speaking on the All the Smoke podcast, Rondo revealed that the NBA has “absolutely” seen the end of him on the court, and he will spend time with his kids.

“What a time, it was definitely something that I never took for granted when I was in the game,” Rondo said. “I loved every minute of it, and I appreciate the brotherhood that I was able to share and bond and grow with over the years. I’ve learned so much in this game and it’s made me the man who I am today. … I tell people all the time, this wasn’t a dream of mine, it was a goal. I was able to lock in, stay disciplined, I didn’t party a lot in college. But it was worth the sacrifice of me getting to where I wanted to be in life.”

Rondo is a 2x NBA champion, winning with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

Across his career, Rondo averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 assists, and 4.5 rebounds across 957 career games. In addition to the Lakers and Celtics, Rondo played for the Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

“But then again, you know, a lot of those people that he said something about, they probably ain’t bothered,” co-host Stephen Jackson suggested to Mike Epps. “I mean, either way, man, you know what I mean?” Epps replied. “Everybody moves different, man. You know what I mean? And that’s what I’m saying, that negativity sells like that.” “Yeah, it’s unfortunate,” cohost Matt Barnes added. “People are drawn to that, to the negativity.”

“They are!” Epps responded. “That’s why I had to go shake Shannon’s hand. Because I can’t control these dudes out here that’ll just go try to do something to him. Just to… It ain’t even for me. Jay-Z’s “Beach Is Better” Was Originally Made For This Rapper, Mike Will Made-It Claims

Many of the biggest songs in popular music have long and complicated histories that led them to arrive at being big hits. That often includes tracks being passed around between various artists behind the scenes. Some of the most common pieces of music trivia include popular songs that were originally made for entirely different artists than they would go on to be associated with. During a recent podcast appearance, Mike Will Made-It revealed which one of Jay-Z’s songs wasn’t originally made for him.

The song in question is “Beach Is Better” from Jay-Z’s 2013 album Magna Cart Holy Grail. “Alright, so, ‘Beach is Better’ started off: Big Sean had ’10 to 10.’ He wanted a beat around ’10 to 10.’ So we had did a couple of beats around the a cappella voice note that he had. And ‘Beach is Better’ was one of them,” Mike Will Made-It revealed. Despite that, he never heard back from Big Sean to claim the beat. He reveals that in a session with Hov that followed shortly after the song began to morph into its final version. Check out the clip where he tells the full story below.

He’s been a controversial public figure for almost two full decades now and every single fan and fellow rapper seems to have their own theories and explanations for his behavior. That was also the case for Cam’Ron, who recently sat down with the hosts of All The Smoke to discuss his take on the rapper, who he’s collaborated with multiple times in the past.

Lil Wayne Ranks LeBron James, Michael Jordan, And Kobe Bryant In Basketball GOAT Debate

There are three names that sit atop the list of basketball’s greatest players. Of course, you have six-time champion and five-time MVP Michael Jordan (1984-2003). Then there’s career Laker and five-time champion Kobe Bryant (1996-2016). Finally, you have LeBron James (2003-Present), the four-time champion and four-time MVP. Each player has their pros and cons in the GOAT debate but few, if any, players even come close to being comparable to them.

Meanwhile, alongside his prolific rap career, Lil Wayne is a massive basketball fan. Originally from New Orleans, Wayne is a proud and diehard Lakers fan. Elsewhere, he almost made his presence known during the Women’s NCAA Tournament this year. Wayne found time to link up with both Miami’s Cavinder Twins and LSU’s National Championship-winning squad. But who does Wayne believe is the true basketball GOAT?

Lil Wayne Ranks LeBron Over MJ

“Bron, I don’t know Bron personally so my answer for Bron would be from afar,” he began. “My answer for Bron is on the court. Bron, you gotta remember, I know for a fact I loved Jordan for the way he always won. As a kid, you don’t know too much about the ins and outs of the game. I got old enough to know how hard it is to fucking do it back-to-back-to-back. So that’s where he got his respect with me to and started getting his respect with me to where he’s the greatest. It’s very hard to do, and that n-gga Bron did that shit with three different teams That’s right there, that’s when regardless he ain’t got six, but he done it with three different teams. That right there is what tipped him over the Jordan scale for me.”

Wayne’s ranking on the All The Smoke podcast comes in stark contrast to where his mind at in 2012. “He’s inspired not only songs, but he’s inspired me in life in general just the way he attacks things, the way he never backs down, the way he fights through injury. I believe he’s the greatest player to touch a basketball.” Furthermore, Wayne was such a fan of Bryant that he named a 2009 track in honor of the career Laker. Kobe now drops from #1 to #3. However, what do you think? Is Wayne on the right track? Or is this an airball? Let us know in the comments. Follow all the latest sports news here at HotNewHipHop.

Lil Wayne Weighs In On Ja Morant

Everyone seems to have a take on Ja Morant’s situation. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar was suspended by the team on May 14 after a video of the guard flashing a gun on Instagram Live surfaced online. Morant served an eight-game suspension in March after a similar incident in a Denver nightclub. While the NBA has publicly responded, with Commissioner Adam Silver saying he was “shocked” by the incident, the league is yet to formally punish Morant.

As mentioned, everyone seems to have a take on the situation. Speaking on ESPN, JJ Redick called for Morant to only receive a doubling of his original suspension. Meanwhile, people like BlocBoy JB have publicly defended Morant. However, there is a wide variety of people, such as Charles Barkley, who have strongly condemned Morant’s behavior.

Lil Wayne Explains Ja Morant Won’t Change

Speaking on the All The Smoke podcaster, co-hosted by Morant detractor Stephen Jackson, Wayne broke down why Morant’s behavior is unlikely to change. “In a lot of situations like this, when we’re all talking about it, the actual people we’re talking about, they purposely stay away from this,” said Wayne. “And there are people protecting them that’s gonna hear it for them and gonna protect them from hearing it. “So it’s hard for the message to get through. You got people looking dead in the camera on TV like, ‘I’m talking to you, Ja.’ It’s hard for the message to get through because I’m the breadwinner. I wish a n***a would tell me something.”

Wayne also pointed to Morant’s life journey as another reason why his behavior is to be expected. “He comes from a town of like 3000 people. What y’all expect? Y’all gave him $200 million. I just said a town with 3000 people. You expect him to be responsible? Nah, we’re tripping then… That’s magic.” Morant grew up in Dalzell, South Carolina which has a population of around 3000, as Wayne noted. He played collegiately at Murray State, a mid-major school in Kentucky. But now he’s the face of an NBA franchise on a contract worth $194 million. The Ja Morant situation is a developing story and any updates can be found here on HotNewHipHop.

They’ve collaborated with hundreds of artists from all facets of the industry and even more openly desire to work with them in the future. The California icon shared his story while visiting the All the Smoke podcast. It was 20 years ago when Quik collaborated with Jay for his The Black Album project. He called it an “amazing, out-of-body experience” to be in close quarters with the couple. “It’s like, ‘Wow.’ You really made it when you’re in the studio, Beyoncé’s offering you motherf*cking water, fruit, and sh*t. And just chilling.”

“That session was just like you could imagine it’d be,” Quik continued. “Jay is quiet. He ain’t the kinda dude to walk around the studio writing and thinking or something. He sit there and just let the music get in and whatnot.” Young Guru was “at the controls,” he added, while “I’m on the beat, [Beyoncé] is over there chilling. Cool as shit, so humble, sweetheart, right?”

“Jay will just be sitting there humming, making these little sounds and sh*t. And he’d just cock his hat to the side, and it’s like, ‘Alright, Guru, I’m ready.’ When he cock his hat, he go in there and just start nailing that sh*t. I ain’t see this motherf*cka write not one lyric.”

Jay & Bey’s Next Era

Hov and Bey have been busy, if not with their crafts, then in business. Fans are preparing for what is slated to be the most significant world tour in the last few years as Beyoncé is preparing to embark on her Renaissance travels. She recently became the artist with the most Grammy wins, and Jay-Z was at the ceremony to watch his wife accept her honor. Meanwhile, ever so often, Hov creeps on a track with a surprise verse that sets the internet on fire. His diversified portfolio keeps his schedule stacked; from sports to politics to spirits to management, the Knowles-Carters stay at the top.
