[WATCH] Alicia Keys Reflects On The 20th Anniversary Of ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’ With Apple Music

Alicia Keys Invites Teenage Shooting Victim Ralph Yarl to Upcoming Summer Concert

The incomparable Alicia Keys joins Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 to discuss the 20th Anniversary of her Grammy-winning multi-platinum sophomore album, The Diary of Alicia Keys. She opens up about collaboration over the years, dives into the process of creating ‘Diary’ fresh off the heels of her Grammy-winning first album, and reflects on how she kept that momentum going. Keys also opens up about how her husband Swizz Beatz helps her celebrate her wins and shares how Clive Davis has impacted her career.

“I’m reflecting back to “The Diary of Alicia Keys”. I’m reflecting back to this being my second offering to the world. There was so much that changed for me. There was so much that was different than it had ever been before in my life. Obviously a girl born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen in Harlem, never had travelled like that. You don’t travel like that. Where do you go? You go to Jersey. Maybe you’re going to get to Connecticut. There’s not really a tonne of places that I had gone at the time, but thanks to the Songs in A Minor. I travelled the whole world.” -Alicia Keys

Every once in a while fans pop in to laugh at something Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys have shared. Last month, the pair took to social media to ask fans for their opinions on something Keys tried to do. Apparently, she was hungry in the club and when everyone else ordered drinks, she tried to get carrots. In a hilarious video filmed afterward, Swizz charmingly mocks her for the decision, while she defends herself claiming she was hungry.

Unsurprisingly, the musical pair’s children also seem to be quite talented when it comes to playing instruments. They shared a video of their son Egypt playing the piano with impressive ability for his age. In the short but elegant clip he seems all too amused with his skill while Swizz films him performing. 5 Hip-Hop Songs That Mentions The Memory of 9/11

911towers

September 11th (9/11) changed United States history forever. The memory of the many lives that were lost is cemented. From the World Trade Center employees to the first responders, the country pauses each year in its memory. Take a look at five tracks that memorialize September 11.

Jay-Z “Empire State of Mind”

Jay-Z’s strong connection to 9/11 remains forever. He released his classic album, The Blueprint, on the same day as the attack. 8 years later, he teamed up with Alicia Keys to give a legendary ode to their beloved home of New York City.

Long Live The World Trade

The memory of the World Trade continues to live on to Brooklyn’s finest.

Jay-Z 9/11 Freestyle

Live from DJ Clue’s Stadium series

Jadakiss “Why”

Jadakiss’ track took a more conscious approach than many of his previous records. In the Anthony Hamilton assisted song, the Yonkers natives question several issues or daily occurrences he has experienced firsthand or witnessed from afar.

One of those witnesses was September 11th. Kiss questioned,

Why did Bush knock down the Towers?

In 2001, former President George Bush was 9 months into his first presidential term.

50 Cent & Eminem “Patiently Waiting”

The track comes from 50’s legendary debut album that was certified 9x platinum. Both Fif and Em mention 9/11.

50 Cent’s 9/11 lyrics

I’m innocent in my head
Like a baby born dead
Destination heaven
Sit and politic with passengers from 9/11

Eminem 9/11 lyrics

Them cowards f**k with the wrong building
they mean to hit ours

Talib Kweli- “Around My Way”

The conscious Kweli delivers on this record with the help of EGOT winner John Legend. The country’s pride was at stake at the hands of 9/11.

It really gets me mad
The way we saluting the flags
Wrapping them around our heads
When ni**as ain’t become American
’till after 9/11

As Talib Kweli’s words echoed for many, the country banded together as one to keep spirits high in such a trying time.

Two decades, we continue to send our hearts and prayers to the family and friends of the 9/11 victims. Long live the World Trade Center.

Swizz Beatz Makes Fun Of Alicia Keys For Wanting Carrots In The Club

In a new video posted to Instagram yesterday, Swizz Beatz is driving around with Alicia Keys. When Swizz first points the camera in her direction she doesn’t even want to look at it, probably because she knows what’s coming. In between laughter, Swizz tells the story of the pair at the club, when Keys tried to order carrots instead of a drink. Though she tries to defend herself, responding “I was hungry,” Swizz clearly has his mind made up. In the caption of the post, he writes “The white side is in full effect again” and follows it with a number of carrot emojis.

Fans in the comments were mixed with some coming to Alicia Keys’ defense. “I’m her defense, if they have wings they should have carrots,” says the top comment on the post. Another similar argument says “I feel her tho like if y’all got food in the club why y’all don’t got Carrots or Celery? That’s basic sides to wings & I know they got wings in da club.” Others in the comments are more aligned with Swizz. “lmaooooooooooo girl u better go ask for sum lemon pepper wings,” says another top comment. Finally, one of the top comments on the post ignores the debate entirely and takes the chance to point out how good Keys looks. “She looks like she hasn’t aged at all,” it reads.

Swizz Beatz Clowning Alicia Keys

Last month Alicia Keys fell victim to the increasingly hostile concert trend of fans throwing objects at performers. During an incident where this happened, Swizz Beatz’s son Genesis got on stage to defend his mom from fans throwing objects. Afterward, Swizz had high praise for his son’s actions.

Swizz Beatz was also one that reached out to Gillie Da Kid following the tragic passing of his son late last month. Many rap legends from across the genre poured out love for Gillie and his son during such difficult times. Who do you think is right between Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys? Let us know in the comment section below.
