Earl Sweatshirt Was Confused For Another Rapper Named After Clothing On ‘Jeopardy!’

At some point in the last five or so years, someone on the Jeopardy! staff figured out that having answers and clues based on hip-hop is really amusing to the show’s audience. And so, there have been references to Public Enemy (and the Funky Bunch), ASAP Rocky, Lil Jon, Lizzo, Kendrick Lamar, and Megan Thee Stallion in recent contests, and invariably, the results have been entertaining — whether contestants’ answers are accurate or not.

The latest rapper to get the Jeopardy! treatment is Earl Sweatshirt. The Los Angeles-based former member of Odd Future appeared as the $800 clue in the “Rappers” category (they have a whole category!) last night. Now, it’s possible — even likely! — that our flustered contestant knew the correct answer. After all, the rapper whose name she blurted out is also named after a garment — damn near the same garment, in fact.

What that says about the state of rap names, in general, is probably a question for another day, but as far as linguistic replacements go, you could do worse than “A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.” The viewers’ frustration at the faux pas may appear to belie that assertion, though. She also mispronounced the “A” in “A Boogie” but considering everybody has to read everything online and just figure it out, this is something we are all going to have to get used to.

The fact remains that Earl and Artist look almost nothing alike (for what it’s worth, there are so many photos of A Boogie wearing so many other items that are not hoodies, maybe a name change is in order). Nor does their music sound alike, although that didn’t come up on Jeopardy!. In the end, none of the contestants could guess and host Mayim Bialik had to give the answer. On the bright side, maybe it worked out for Earl and A Boogie’s streaming numbers when viewers inevitably googled both to figure out what the big deal was. Check out more fans’ reactions below.

Jeopardy Contestant Confuses Earl Sweatshirt For A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie: Watch

Jeopardy is a place where contestants show off their knowledge of everything from science to pop culture. It’s a difficult game show but one that families have watched for decades as they themselves try to figure out the right answers. The questions leave contestants stumped sometimes, especially if it’s out of their wheelhouse of knowledge. Still, those moments lead to hilarious reactions online and even, from the host themselves.

Hip-hop knowledge became incredibly useful in Jeopardy over the past few years. Alex Trebek used rappers as answers throughout the four decades he hosted the show and that trend continues even after his death. During a recent episode, “Rappers” was a category of its own and Megan Thee Stallion was the answer to one of the questions. “Her 2021 album Something for Thee Hotties is a compilation of her freestyles and some previously unreleased songs,” read the host. While the contestant, Lucas, got it correct, not everyone was as well-read in hip-hop trivia.

Earl Sweatshirt On Jeopardy

In the same “Rappers” category, one contestant became slumped when Earl Sweatshirt was an answer. During the game show, host Mayim Bialik showed a photo of Earl in a hoodie before posing the $800 question. “He’s seen here actually in a hoodie around the time of Doris, his major label debut album,” Bialik asked. Contestant Audrey confidently responded, “Who is A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie?” Bialik awkwardly stuttered as she said no while another contestant, Arush, laughed. “That is Earl Sweatshirt,” Bialik said.

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time a contestant fumbled a rap-related question. In fact, there have been a number of them in the past, including one a contestant confused The Funky Bench for Public Enemy. As the internet hounded her down, Chuck D leaped to her defense on Twitter. “Everybody don’t know everything… it’s why I introduce myself wherever I go and whoever I talk to … it’s just courtesy. But the sad thing is not knowing those other Chuck Ds,” he said. Check out Earl Sweatshirt/A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie mix-up above and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Taps Mariah The Scientist For “Secrets” Remix

New music is coming in hot on this good Friday. The latest release comes from Highbridge’s own A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, who teams up with Mariah The Scientist for the remix to his throwback “Secrets.” The track comes to the surprise of some, seeing he’s released not one, but two projects since the original was featured on 2020’s Artist 2.0’s deluxe version. Not for TikTok users, however, as they are responsible for it’s resurgence. According to stats on the ever-popular clock app, the song has been used over 24,000 times as of writing.

The Bronx rapper has even gone on to upload a live performance of the track a couple of days ago. One commenter wrote “So glad that this song is finally getting the love it deserves. Nonetheless, it’s safe to say the new version does not disappoint. On the “Secrets” remix, A Boogie recites the same verse chorus as its predecessor, boasting about his success and the groupies that come with it. The first track didn’t have a second verse, which is where Mariah The Scientist comes in. Young Thug’s rumored boo slides in after the second chorus with some salacious bars of her own.

TikTok Users May Be To Thank For The A Boogie With The Hoodie Remix

The “Bout Mine” vocalist makes the rules clear to her fling on the “Secrets” remake. She implies she’s ready to get down and dirty, but he must keep his mouth closed. Mariah The Scientist sings “Meet me in the back, take me through the alley / Know you want a bad girl, know you want a savage / Know that I can be that, you can’t believe that /You could be a blind man, even you could see that.” Some A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie fans aren’t fond of the R&B singer’s addition, but she seems to be taking it with grace. Mariah The Scientist—who is no stranger to backlash—has shown support for the song throughout the day on her Instagram Stories.

Quotable Lyrics

Baby, from my observations
You think I’m your lady, all of those expectations
But that just ain’t the way it goes
And I just want you out them clothes tonight
I promise to take it slow
You can even take control this time
If you can keep your mouth closed

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Recruited Mariah The Scientist To Make His 2020 Track ‘Secrets’ Even Steamier

In December, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie dropped his new album Me Vs. Myself featuring Roddy Ricch, Lil Durk, and Tory Lanez, after postponing its release to not compete with Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss. Now, he’s back with even more material.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie just shared a new version of “Secrets” featuring Mariah the Scientist. The track comes from his 2020 LP Artist 2.0. Her vocals are a gorgeous addition to an already great song, adding another layer of sensuality: “Meet me in the back, take me through the alley / Know you want a bad girl, know you want a savage,” she sings.

For some reason (likely due to a mistake), A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie uploaded one YouTube video in which the audio for the song was missing. The comments are overflowing with jokes that end with fire emojis. One user wrote, “This Song Is Really A Secret.” Another wrote, “Greatest song I never heard.” One quipped, “This is a certified mute classic.” Luckily, there’s another posting of the video with audio.

Listen to the new version of “Secrets” above.

Lola Brooke Will Join A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s ‘Me Vs The World’ International Tour As A Supporting Act

Lola Brooke is a just barely five-foot musical flame that has stolen the hearts of some of rap’s most influential acts, such as Lil Kim. The Brooklyn native has garnered the admiration of not only her peers like Coi Leray but acts like Cardi B. As the “Don’t Play With It” rapper continues to dominate across streaming platforms, she has set her eyes on the big stage.

With Brooke slated to make an appearance at several music festivals this summer, including Wireless Festival, she’ll have plenty of time to work out any kinks in her set now that she’ll be listed as the official opener for A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s upcoming Me vs. Myself Tour for both the North American and Europe wings.

This isn’t the first time the pair will share a stand with one another. A few weeks ago, the “Drowning” rapper brought Brooke out during his performance at Total Mortgage Arena. The following day, Brooke took to Instagram to share a clip of the surprise with the caption, “All these lights ain’t come overnight! Are you dumb?” responding to claims that she was an overnight success.

In the same post, Brooke went on to thank Boogie for his support, writing, “You a real one, A Boogie. Thank you,” closing with the Statue of Liberty emoji to show New York unity (even though the monument is actually physically located in New Jersey waters).

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Opens Up About His Mother’s Injury & PnB Rock’s Death In New Interview

A Boogie Wit da Hoodie is still fresh off the release of his newest album, Me vs. Myself. Ever since his debut mixtape, 2016’s Artist, the New York native has been steadily working to become a household name in mainstream hip-hop.

Thanks to his melodic sound and several hits to his name, the 27-year-old continues to see success.

On Thursday (January 12), Billboard published their brand new interview with the “Drowning” rapper. During the sit-down, A Boogie opens up about a number of different topics. Notably, he talks about an injury that his mother suffered and its effects on him. During a raid of the rapper’s home in 2020, 16 SWAT officers are responsible for busting through the door. His mother subsequently rolled her ankle while falling down the stairs.

“When I seen Mom Dukes fall down the stairs that day, bro. I’m looking up to see what was coming behind her, and all I seen was a flashlight, and whatever kind of chopper those SWAT teams have. It was crazy, and I just froze up. I couldn’t do anything,” he details. The New York native says isolation has helped him to grow and reflect on his past.

Elsewhere in the interview, he also addresses dealing with the loss of one of his closest friends, PnB Rock. “When it comes to someone close to me passing away, it’s hard, but I can’t lose focus because I have to be responsible and find the balance to deal with those tough losses so I can properly help out in any way I can. Isolation helped with that,” says the 27-year-old.

His latest project, the aforementioned Me vs. Myself, arrived just over a month ago. It boasts features from Roddy Ricch, G Herbo, Lil Durk and others. Furthermore, it’s backed by the single, “Water (Drowning Pt. 2)” with Kodak Black. Of course, this serves as the sequel to their 2017 track together.

A Boogie released a deluxe version of the album with an extra song just a few days after the original release. “Needed That” features the late PnB Rock and serves as the deluxe version’s first song on the tracklist.
