Ice Spice Unleashes Bold New Anthem “Think You The Sh*t (Fart)” To Kick Off 2024

Ice Spice, the rap sensation on a meteoric rise, has just dropped her first release of 2024 with the unconventional track, “THINK U THE SHIT (FART).” The song introduces a unique and attention-grabbing element, with Ice Spice drawing comparisons between herself and another woman using the now-viral line: “Think you the shit, bitch? You not even the fart.” This distinct choice of lyrics in the opening chorus has quickly become a talking point, capturing the curiosity of listeners and igniting discussions across social media platforms.

“Think You The Sh*t (Fart)” serves as a bold declaration of assertive self-confidence and superiority. Ice Spice employs direct and unapologetic language to establish dominance over her peers, touching on themes of wealth, physical appeal, and personal prowess. The lyrics reflect a contemporary cultural emphasis on material success and individual empowerment in competitive environments. The song’s first snippet made its debut on Ice Spice’s social media channels on January 7, 2024. Accompanied by an image/meme featuring Nintendo character Mario, the snippet unveiled the now-iconic lyrics of the chorus beneath him.

Andre 3000 Taking His New Album “New Blue Sun” On Tour

Last year, Andre 3000 shared his long-awaited solo debut. In the lead up to the album he promised that it would have “no bars” and he delivered on that promise. What resulted was an ambient jazz album called New Blue Sun that is entirely instrumental and features long compositions with Andre himself prominently playing flute across the album.

The project proved to be pretty controversial, dividing both fans and critics. Many praised Andre for stepping out of his comfort zone and trying such a bold sound. Others resented that they waited for years for a new album from the Outkast legend and it ended up having no rapping whatsoever.

Tierra Whack Unveils Debut Album, “World Wide Whack,” Coming Soon

You won’t find many MCs in the modern era that are as vibrant, versatile, or viciously sought-after as Tierra Whack. Moreover, her creative blends of hip-hop, pop, R&B, and alternative, all under a cheeky, playful, but nonetheless impactful lens, have captivated fans in the mainstream and underground alike ever since her 2018 project Whack World. However, it’s been a long time since we heard anything from the Philly MC in a long-form capacity, particularly her Rap?, Pop?, and R&B? EPs from 2021. Along with some singles and loose freestyles, this fueled the fire for fans begging for more and more, and she finally took the step to invite fans into her world once more.

Furthermore, Tierra Whack just announced her debut album, World Wide Whack, set for a March 15 release via Interscope Records. “I really took my time with this, so I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do,” she wrote on her social media platforms along with the project’s cover art. Not only that, but the “Chanel Pit” multi-hyphenate (a track which might appear on this LP) also announced her lead single for the project, “Shower Song,” which will come out this Friday (January 26). She had previously previewed this song with a cheeky Internet clip of her in the bathtub with some hot dogs… that she proceeded to eat with some mustard. Tasty!

Tierra Whack Announces World Wide Whack & “Shower Song”

Of course, fans are incredibly excited to dive into World Wide Whack, and it’s great to see one of the best hip-hop artists working today diving into a new rollout. Hopefully this incorporates the genre blends in more progressive and meaty ways compared to the potential and strong songwriting displayed on previous singles and her 2021 EPs. We can’t really predict what Tierra Whack will do here, but that is exactly what makes this a very anticipated project for 2024’s first quarter. If anything, it will hopefully and likely be a critical darling that you can bet will get consideration on mid-year and even end-of-year lists.

Meanwhile, as fans also found out about her bonding with Tyler, The Creator and a potential collab, this is just all good news compounding on itself. With all that in mind, make sure to keep an eye out for World Wide Whack and its soon-to-come single, “Shower Song.” Also, drop your thoughts on this announcement in the comments, and let us know whether you’re looking forward to this next step. On that note, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Tierra Whack.

Madlib & Karriem Riggins Form Jahari Massamba Unit For New Single “Massamba Afundance”: Stream

Two legendary producers in the fields of hip-hop and jazz are about to bring us another album’s worth of their electric chemistry. Moreover, legendary multi-instrumentalist and hip-hop icon Madlib and astonishing drummer Karriem Riggins just dropped the single “Massamba Afundance” under their hip-hop/future jazz duo name, Jahari Massamba Unit. This is a three-minute instrumental show-stopper with relentless percussion, gorgeous key embellishments, and an intoxicating live atmosphere thanks to distant crowd noise additions. They previously released “Stomping Gamay,” another promotional single for their upcoming album, YHWH Is Love, scheduled to land on March 1.

Furthermore, this is by no means Karriem Riggins’ first experience with forming hip-hop-inclusive supergroups. For example, all the way back in 2018, he teamed up with Common, Robert Glasper, and Brandy for “Optimistic,” and worked with plenty of rap artists before and after that. Fans might remember his contributions to Denzel Curry’s excellent 2022 studio album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, as one of his most recent and high-profile offerings. As for Madlib… well, you know his name is synonymous with both the best beats you’ll ever hear and exciting jazz experimentation. Seeing him fully embrace this for a full project’s never been dull in the past, and through Jahari Massamba Unit, he’s poised to excel once again.

Madlib & Karriem Riggins’ “Massamba Afundance” As Jahari Massamba Unit: Stream

However, what excites us the most about “Massamba Afundance” in particular is its strong live feel. Whether it’s the deep and echoing percussion hits, the added chimes, or the key-playing’s improvisational nature, this is an entrancing rhythm to fall into for its short runtime. It’s also very curious because Madlib usually occupies a pretty liminal space between crisp production and lo-fi soundscapes, so hearing a rougher but more lively mix is never a bad thing. He’s also keeping rap fans excited and on edge by teasing new collaborations with the likes of Freddie Gibbs and Mac Miller. All we can ask for is that we see how these two worlds fuse even more in 2024, because it’s all been amazing.

If you haven’t heard it, you can check out the song above or on your preferred streaming service. When you come back, we want to know what you thought of Jahari Massamba Unit’s “Massamba Afundance,” especially if this is a less familiar genre to you. How do you like the “Waves Crashing” beatsmith’s treatment of Riggins’ drumming here, and are you excited to delve into YHWH Is Love? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments section down below. Also, as always, check back in with HNHH for more news on Madlib and Karriem Riggins, as well as for more great music drops around the clock.

Sematary Rocks Out On New Single “Wendigo”: Stream

You may know Sematary for combining harsh noise, metal, and distorted Chief Keef-style trap drums. If you don’t… well, you have some wild catching up to do, but let this new song “Wendigo” act as a bizarrely measured introduction comparedto his most aggressive work. Don’t get it twisted, though: the King Of The Graveyard still displays a lot of energy thanks to his warped and cavernous vocals, a killer guitar riff, buzzing synth elements, and raging guitar chords. Lyrically, it’s another twisted character portrait from him, balancing out his dark environment and habits with his desire for partnership and to have some company on the winding path.

As one of the horrorcore genre’s most relevant exponents today, Sematary doesn’t fail to find new ways to evolve his artistry. While this is by no means his first approach to more rock-centric drums, song structures, and deliveries, it certainly is one of his most overt. The Northern California artist will hopefully continue on this path for the rest of 2024, because he’s the type of creative that could easily just stick to the sound that garnered his cult fanbase. Regardless, it’s very exciting to see that he’s not putting himself in any creative boxes, especially as his notoriety and circle of collaborators and influences grows.

Sematary’s “Wendigo”: Stream & Watch The Music Video

For example, we recently witness an amazing full-circle moment as the drill-influenced vocalist and producer collaborated with Chief Keef on the recently released single, “F**k The World.” Hopefully there are many more of these to come, as Sematary represents a crucial opportunity to bring more aggressive and unique sounds into more traditional markets. If you haven’t heard “Wendigo” yet, check out the lo-fi music video above, find it on your preferred streaming service, and peep some standout lines down below. Also, as always, stick around on HNHH for the latest great music drops each week.

Blxst & Kyle Dion Lighten The Mood On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

Our R&B Season playlist is back this week, rounding up the best jams, bops, and bangers that came out for your convenience. We have a couple of hot singles to talk about this time around, including Blxst’s latest effort, “Heart Ain’t Empty.” Moreover, this track opens up with soft and gorgeous keys, which leads to a characteristically buttery vocal performance from him. In fact, the song maintains this vibe throughout its entire runtime, spotlighting the West Coast artist’s penchant for honest lyricism and focused melodic treatments. It’s definitely one of the most easy-going and consistent cuts you’ll hear this week, but it’s R&B Season; what else did you expect?

Furthermore, another cut that will warm your heart this winter season (if you live in applicable weather, of course) is Naomi Sharon’s “Nothing Sweeter.” Not only does this single’s leading acoustic guitar crisply guide her croons, but very subtle synth pad additions give the song an extra earthiness. As far as the singer’s lyricism, it’s another pontification on love, particularly the emotions that surge with a first-time meeting. Few cuts this week will embody this spirit as well, and it’s an amazing way to kick off a morning in our view.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Stream

Sole cuts aside, we also have two brand-new, short, but nonetheless gratifying projects to talk about on this R&B Season update. The first is DESTIN CONRAD’s SUBMISSIVE2, on which “IT’S ONLY YOU” is a sultry, slow-burning, dancehall-inspired highlight. In addition, there’s Kyle Dion’s latest collection, If My Jeans Could Talk, on which there’s a lot of charisma and personality. Furthermore, “Kissy” is a bright, passionate, and funky escapade that might emulate the feeling you get when that special person sweeps you off your feet.

Rounding out our additions is the newest single from Honey Bxby featuring Kaliii, “Touchin’,” with a nice R&B-rap blend and an undeniable bassline. Finally, we want to shout out “Millionth Time” by Joël Lobban for its well-paced and dreamy atmosphere. Let us know in the comments what your favorite R&B Season selection this week was -– and what else we missed, too. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest great music drops around the clock.

Jay Critch’s “Too Rare” Single Urges Haters To Talk Trash With Their Chests: Stream

The second New Music Friday of 2024 was huge for hip-hop, with Kid Cudi and 21 Sav sharing their INSANO and american dream projects respectively. Things were quieter yesterday (January 19), though Blueface, 6ix9ine, and K Camp were among those who had new releases to share earlier in the week. Aside from those, Jay Critch has a hot new song for your consideration too.

“Too Rare” arrives in tandem with “Rich & Reckless,” another song the 25-year-old unleashed this Friday with the help of Rich The Kid and Famous Dex. The latter is significantly shorter than Critch’s solo effort, which finds his confidence on full display as he begs his haters to speak louder when keeping his name in their mouths.

Kid Cudi “INSANO” Album Review

Man on the Moon III: The Chosen (2020) was a great full-circle moment for Kid Cudi. He emulated Travis Scott (for whom he is a massive influence) and came through with psych-trap bangers, plus a versatile and emotionally powerful set of Cudder-style cuts. Unfortunately, on the Cleveland native’s ninth solo studio album and final Republic Records offering, INSANO, this experiment repeats itself with less exciting results, more filler, and an overall missing vision that usually ties his projects together seamlessly.

While he framed this album as a dedication to his OG fanbase, this sounds like more catering to the contemporary popular sounds in hip-hop that he helped innovate. However, this is no empty desert: Mr. Rager still delivers a handful of tracks worthy of his celebrated discography. But perhaps INSANO‘s biggest flaw is how it’s a pick-and-choose experience rather than a fulfilling front-to-back package.

What Makes INSANO Work?

If you’re a big fan of Kid Cudi’s hypnotic, dreamy, often cavernous, and entrancing style, or that of the artists he influences, then there’s a great chance you’ll like INSANO. “OFTEN, I HAVE THESE DREAMS,” “ELECTROWAVEBABY” (which got a Ye “co-sign”), “BLUE SKY,” and certain choruses, flows, and themes on other tracks are classic Cudi all the way. These are among the cuts that cohesively mesh his influences of hip-hop, pop, indie, and electronic, and this breaks up the track flow in the most engaging ways. “FRESHIE” also provides excellent flows and a structurally distinct song in comparison to the others, whereas “TORTURED” and “FUNKY WIZARD SMOKE” provide a strong focus on despondence and perseverance, respectively.

At first glance, or listening to any track out of context, there are always signs and displays of what makes Kid Cudi so great. Clean, crisp, but impactful production, engaging melodies across songs, carefree lyricism, emotional honesty and range, and an overall healing factor. On that last point, this is probably the 39-year-old’s most joyful album. INSANO starts with more bangers and slowly morphs into more mellow fare, but there’s a catch. By the time we finally leave the psych-trap lane in the tracklist, we’ve heard two or three of these records too many.

Where Did Kid Cudi Miss The Mark?

Kid Cudi INSANO Review Hip Hop News

While INSANO represents the WZRD artist’s talents across the board, listening from top to bottom can be repetitive, vapid, and messy. He’s always had jumbled and choppy flows, but these instrumentals require a strong melodic and structural focus that these performances never capture. “KEEP BOUNCING,” “A TALE OF A KNIGHT,” and “CUD LIFE” are examples of tracks that come and go with minimal impact. In addition, with few instances of memorable wordplay or phrasing, detailed narratives, or strong hooks, there’s little to latch onto emotionally and lyrically beyond the basic descriptions we’ve heard so much in Kid Cudi’s catalog. There are only so many times we can hear about blunts, baddies, fast cars, and being better than all the haters he claims not to care about.

Even the professional-grade production is too limited in terms of psych-trap aesthetics and structure. Beats like “MOST AIN’T DENNIS” and “FRESHIE” are amazing, but they’re sonically not that different from the mostly passable and largely static pack of instrumentals here. Many of these songs needed more fleshing out and development to materialize fully, and to distinguish themselves from others. Meanwhile, the features range from very good to average, and most of them are too short to stun. A$AP Rocky shines on “WOW,” Kid Cudi goes back and forth with Travis Scott and Young Thug on “GET OFF ME” and “RAGER BOYZ” respectively, and Lil Wayne provides a brief but fun set of bars on “SEVEN.” Lil Yachty’s vibrato does its thing on “TOO DAMN HIGH,” Pharrell’s okay on “AT THE PARTY,” and the XXXTENTACION sample is well-treated. Alas, they don’t astonish.

What’s Next For Mr. Rager?

Kid Cudi INSANO Review Hip Hop News
Kid Cudi performs at Rolling Loud Miami on July 22, 2022 in Miami, Florida. (Jason Koerner/Getty Images)

Overall, INSANO feels like Kid Cudi just having fun for an hour, but without the focus and intent to translate that experience compellingly. With a deluxe on the way and his career in limbo thanks to possible retirement (though he’s by no means slowing down beyond music), it’s hard to tell where he’ll go next. Still, there is one reason why this album should be celebrated that has nothing to do with its quality. Scott Mescudi’s been through a lot: the loss of a father, mental health struggles, addiction, and the constant criticism, doubt, attacks, and misunderstanding perceptions that have plagued him throughout his career.

For this album, we can’t say we don’t see where the haters are coming from. Yet despite his overbearing references to them, it feels like he is happier and healthier than ever, allowing himself to bask in this blessing and triumph while still speaking on his demons. As such, INSANO may not reach the standards Kid Cudi set for himself, but it does represent personal growth and peace that no project’s acclaim could amount to. So while this attempt was neither great nor terrible, we’ll always be excited for whatever he does next, whether as the artist we grew to love or as the influential, multi-disciplinary creative he always knew he’d become.

Following his Final Lap Tour in 2023, 50 is expected to turn his focus to film and television in the new year. That decision comes after he opened a studio in Shreveport, Louisiana. The city’s mayor, Tom Arceneaux, celebrated the move back in December. “We enjoyed for a period after 2005, we enjoyed a very robust television and film industry in the Shreveport area,” he said, as noted by HipHopDX. “This will bring back, I think, a lot of those people and will rejuvenate that industry in our area. So I think the film industry is about to blossom again in Shreveport. [50 Cent]’s undertaking all of the maintenance and repair, which is around 160 to 170 thousand dollars a year. So to look at just the lease payment is not fair to him. We also anticipate he’s going to make several million dollars of improvements to the facility. This is a very serious proposal, a very serious undertaking by him.”
