Eric Bellinger & Kyle Dion Carry Our “R&B Season” Playlist Updates Into 2024: Stream

Welcome to our first R&B Season playlist update of 2024, which is understandably one of the slower ones we’ll probably do this year. Moreover, there wasn’t a ton of activity in the mainstream this week when it comes to more soulful releases to kick off this next set of 365 days. Still, that wasn’t really the case for strictly hip-hop artists this week. For example, Hit-Boy linked up his father Big Hit with The Game and produced their surprise collaborative mixtape, Paisley Dreams. While we only have two new tracks to highlight for this check-in, they are so quality that it feels like they aimed to compete among a stacked release schedule.

The first addition on our inaugural R&B Season playlist update for 2024 is the single “La Perla” [The Pearl] by Eric Bellinger, B HAM, and Corey Cooper. It’s a bright, sensual, breezy, and vocally passionate cut about lusting for a potential partner with as much commitment as possible. The “BNB” singer puts together a pretty steady progression with sharp drums, cloudy synth pads, and smooth harmonies. It’s by no means the most re-inventive cut on the market, but it’s an energizing and engaging way to start your soulful musical intake this year.

In a more acoustic direction, our other R&B Season pick is “Hang Me Out to Dry” by Kyle Dion. This song is led by crisp guitar chords and embellishments, which match very nicely against the light percussive pattern, more harmonic displays, and synth and key licks and chords. Not only that, but the Sassy creative shows off his high register while retaining a lot of power and heft behind his voice, which is a tough balance to accomplish. It’s still pretty cold in many parts of the world, but don’t let that stop you from throwing this sunny song on.

Meanwhile, other rap highlights from this week include Erick The Architect’s excellent jazz-funk-rap jam with the one and only George Clinton, “Ezekiel’s Wheel.” If you want to check out more standouts from how MCs kicked off 2024, check out our Fire Emoji playlist with the link below. Also, don’t forget to check out our R&B Season playlist above and let us know which song you preferred– plus what we missed this week, as well. Chloe Bailey Will Get “Generation Next” Award At Urban One Honors 2024

Chloe Bailey will be Urban One Honors’ latest recipient of the “Generation Next” award at their 2024 ceremony for her craft in the music and show business world. Moreover, the organization will record the sixth-annual event at the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta, Georgia later in January, whereas TV One will air it on February 25. “Each honoree represents a unique chapter in the story of music,” the network’s president Michelle Rice stated. “We are honored to celebrate their enduring legacies at this year’s Urban One Honors: Best In Black.” Furthermore, this is her most recent career level-up after a pretty successful 2023 that hopefully translates into even larger success this year.

For example, the 25-year-old went on the road for her In Pieces tour last year to roll out her then-new album. During one show in particular, she shared a wholesome and heartstring-tugging moment with her sister and duo partner, Halle. Specifically, Chloe spoke on her relationship with DDG, and it was overall a great moment for them to show their appreciation for one another. Just goes to show that acclaim and commercial highs don’t cancel out more grounded and meaningful occasions.

Hopefully this means that Chloe and Halle will come back with some more material together in 2024, as their previous album was a delight. Still, the news that will surround her this year might focus more on relationship gossip, which hopefully isn’t taking a strong toll on her personal life. After all, folks spotted the R&B singer and songwriter leaving a club with Tyga as 2023 wrapped up. She’s been the subject of a lot of these claims, and we just hope that folks reporting on it (like us) continue to balance this out with her much more important achievements.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta native remains as stunning as ever, often blessing her social media presence with killer fit pics and new style changes. Seeing her get this “Generation Next” award points to even greater things to come– and more ceremonies to pop off at when it comes to fashion. So let’s cross our fingers and stay tuned to what comes next. On that note, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Chloe Bailey.

ScarLip & NLE Choppa Open Our First “Fire Emoji” Playlist Update Of 2024: Stream

Welcome to 2024, and to sum up all the great opening releases this week from the best in hip-hop and beyond, we’ve got you covered with our first Fire Emoji playlist update of the year. Leading the way is the new remix of ScarLip’s “Blick” featuring NLE Choppa, an aggressive and Jersey club-inspired cut. With wild vocal delivery, a banging beat, and infectious piano lines, this will kick off the year with a bang. In addition, we also have The Game, Big Hit, and Hit-Boy’s surprise collab album, Paisley Dreams. Moreover, its title track is particularly skillful, and demonstrates a compelling balance of boisterous bars and reflective remarks.

Also on Fire Emoji this week is the new song from Pooh Shiesty, the menacing “Federal Contraband 2,” which actually dropped on Christmas Day last year. It still carries its lengthy energy over into 2024 with what sounds like a relentless verse from jail from the Memphis MC. Moving over to Michigan, we have Detroit rapper Veeze and Gallery Provence teaming up for a new record, “WORST.” It’s a punchline-heavy, rapid, and similar to Shiesty, non-stop performance with an ethereal but tough-as-nails beat.

Along the same high-tempo and bar-heavy vein, BLP KOSHER just released a new song, “Dreidel Bop.” The Florida native’s infectious charisma, creative wordplay, and slew of pop culture references makes this as fun as it is engaging to sit down and break down its verses. As for the best offering on Fire Emoji this week (in this writer’s opinion), Erick The Architect and the legendary George Clinton blessed us with “Ezekiel’s Wheel.” It’s a slow-burning but funky track with lyrical perseverance, woozy embellishments, and a dreamy and intoxicating sonic atmosphere.

Rounding out our update is Lil Tecca’s mellow and cavernous new single, “Down With Me.” Finally, we wanted to shout out Fredo Bang’s emotive and drowsily heart-ached “Come Thru.” Let us know in the comments section which of these Fire Emoji picks was your favorite– and what else we missed this week, too. Check out the playlist above and, as always, stick around on HNHH for the latest amazing music releases around the clock.

ScHoolboy Q Gets New Platinum & Gold Certifications Before Return

It’s (hopefully) going to be a huge year for ScHoolboy Q, who is set to drop his highly anticipated sixth studio album in 2024. However, he at least has a great foot to start off on if plans don’t work out as expected, for which fans have been very patient for. Moreover, the TDE lyricist received nine new plaques from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) with new gold and platinum certifications on Wednesday (January 3). Eight of these are for singles, whereas his 2019 project CrasH Talk went gold. So let’s break down which songs went gold, which ones went platinum, and which ones added another point on the multi-platinum board.

First, for the “Fork In The Pot” MC’s first-time gold certifications. These are “Dope Dealer” with E-40, “CHopstix” with Travis Scott, and “What They Want” with 2 Chainz. As for first-time platinum plaques, these are for ScHoolboy Q’s “Numb Numb Juice” and “Floating” with 21 S*vage. Meanwhile, “Man Of The Year” and “Studio” went three times platinum. Finally, the iconic track “Collard Greens” with former label mate Kendrick Lamar went four times platinum.

Meanwhile, ScHoolboy Q recently explained why his next LP took quite a while to materialize. “This is our life, like me talking about our situations,” he said on the BACKONFIGG podcast. “You know, the s**t we done been through, homies we done lost to the system or to the streets. Like, me talkin’ about my mama’s trauma from her own brothers. You can’t compare that to somebody that won an NBA championship.

“When it comes to music, I don’t look at it as like, ‘Oh, you have to drop every year,’” he went on. “I’m like, no, your favorite rapper has to drop every year because he needs chili. I do what I want because I move off peace, I move off my experiences. As a[n] artist, if I bring nothing to the table that comes from my life, I don’t feel I should put it out.” For more news and the latest updates on ScHoolboy Q, log back into HNHH.

Uncle Murda Ropes In 6ix9ine, Cam’ron, Nelly & More In “Rap Up 2023” Part 3

Uncle Murda finally wrapped up his “Rap Up 2023” series, one which warranted three different songs to execute. For those unaware, he does this every year: a summary of a lot of hip-hop and pop culture moments that went down in a given year. In this new third installment for 2023, the rapper gives his take on Kodak Black, Jonathan Majors, the submersible fiasco, Southside and G Herbo’s interview with Funny Marco, Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen, Jeezy and Jeannie Mai’s divorce, and so much more. Even the Israel and Palestine conflict got a mention. He also paid tribute to some fallen entertainment figures this year, such as Lance Reddick, Gillie Da Kid’s son, Jacky Oh!, and Harry Belafonte.

On the first part of “Rap Up 2023,” Uncle Murda took shots at Blueface, Chrisean Rock, Sexyy Red, the Young Thug trial, and a whole lot more. In fact, it’s quite difficult to sum these cuts up, and this latest edition is no different with its rapid-fire references and connections. Of course, that’s part of the fun of songs like this, as they glue us to what is said more than a lot of contemporary hip-hop is doing these days. At least he treated these topics with relative “objectivity,” but he obviously has particular interpretations about these scandals and headlines.

For example, Troy Ave responded to Uncle Murda mentoning him on “Rap Up 2023,” in reference to his legal battle with Taxstone. As it turns out, Troy wasn’t too happy with the shoutout, which is probably a common sentiment, although it’s probably a message sent in jest to a fun pop culture moment these days. “Damn do I gotta WRAP this n***a UP,” he wrote on Instagram. This is what the G-Unit had to say about the rapper.

Troy Ave really went to court and got on the stand,” he rapped. “N***a snitched on Taxstone ’cause he bodied his man. You supposed to keep it in the streets, I hate when n***as tell on n***as. I don’t f**k with Taxstone but I don’t be wishing jail on n***as. Troy Ave lost his chain on that night all that s**t happened. But it was fake, seven years later found out Maino had it.” For more news and the latest updates on Uncle Murda, check back in with HNHH.

Keke Palmer Claims She’s Never Been Happier In Vacation Instagram Post

Keke Palmer had a busy and occasionally quite traumatic 2023 but she’s already looking forward to better days. In a new Instagram post, she showed off a fun vacation activity while updating fans on her happiness. In the video itself she’s swimming in some crystal blue water while holding a stingray, which she talks to throughout the clip. While the video is surprisingly adorable, it’s the caption that is somehow even more wholesome and what most fans were happy to hear.

“Whew chile! These mosquitoes done had they way with my eye, I feel like I was in that Martin episode,” she begins that post’s caption. “I have never been so happy in my life!! Already 2024 has started off on the vibes I was looking for, more experiences and more enjoying what this beautiful world has to offer. Look at my smile! I don’t even recognize me! I made a second connection with this girl here, I’m on clouuuuuud nine!” Palmer concludes. It’s refreshing to hear how much she’s enjoying herself after a turbulent past few months. Keke Palmer Is Living Her Best Life This Year

Keke Palmer’s drama first began last year with a high-profile incident at one of Usher’s residency shows in Las Vegas. Video made the rounds online of the R&B star singing to her and her boyfriend at the time Darius Jackson chimed in online. He critiqued how revealing her outfit was which sparked tons of debate online over what she was wearing.

But things got a lot more serious later in the year when Palmer took Jackson to court. She accused him of repeated patterns of abusive behavior and filed for both a restraining order and custody of their child. While both were granted temporarily the full legal battle between the two is yet to unfold and their future is currently unknown. What do you think of Keke Palmer enjoying herself early in 2024 following a rough 2023? Let us know in the comment section below.

Boldy James & Nicholas Craven Announce Release Date For New Album

Boldy James and Nicholas Craven are kicking 2024 off with a bang with their new album, Penalty of Leadership. After many teases and a couple of singles, namely “Brand New Chanel Kicks” and “No Pun Intended,” producer Craven announced that the project will come out on Friday, January 12. As such, many die-hards and hip-hop heads in general think that this will be among the first amazing albums this year. It sounds magnificent up to this point, if the singles are any solid indication, which is unsurprising to witness from this duo. All we can hope for is that the material they’re saving for next week is even better than what they offered as appetizers.

Of course, a big reason behind this hype is the established collaborative chemistry between Boldy James and Nicholas Craven. Their 2022 full-length, Fair Exchange No Robbery, was one of the year’s most acclaimed releases, and holds a special place in both artists’ catalogs. In addition, they had previously linked up on the beatmaker’s Craven N 3 record, and are building on how well they fit each other’s styles. However, an important narrative part of Penalty of Leadership seems to be the Detroit MC’s car crash in early 2023, which this album’s recording, promotional artwork, and lyrical content seems to tackle.

Nicholas Craven Unveils Penalty Of Leadership Release Date With Boldy James

For example, Nicholas Craven had said on Twitter that “No Pun Intended” was the last song they recorded after Boldy James almost fully recovered from the accident, whereas “Brand New Chanel Kicks” was recorded shortly after the crash. The Montreal sonic wizard’s output without him was still great in 2023, including the Ransom collab EP Deleted Scenes 2. On the other hand, the “Disco Fever” spitter kicked the year off– much like he will in 2024– with the album Indiana Jones with RichGains, plus other EPs, singles, and features throughout. As such, we know that they’re by no means out of practice, and that they worked just as hard, if not harder, on Penalty of Leadership.

Meanwhile, we already know that this won’t be Bo’s only album this year. He just released the project 1LB (One Lucky Bastard) with Your Boy Posca, available exclusively via physical vinyl and cassette copies. Looks like it’s going to be another fantastic year for all the concreatures out there. For more news and the latest updates on Boldy James and Nicholas Craven, stay up to date on HNHH.

JPEGMAFIA Updates New Music Plans For 2024 With Fans

JPEGMAFIA started off the new year with a message to his loyal fans, who couldn’t be happier with his output in 2023. Moreover, his Danny Brown collab project SCARING THE H*ES is, for our money, the best rap album of last year, and they even dropped an expansion pack to add even more amazing songs to it. However, some fans expressed disappointment throughout the year when it appeared the Baltimore creative wouldn’t drop his other album that he promised fans in 2023. On Monday (January 1), he took to Twitter to explain to fans what happened, and to thank them for their patience that he looks forward to rewarding soon.

“Took a break for the holidays,” JPEGMAFIA’s Notes app message to fans began, which the “black enuff” lyricist apparently started writing half an hour before the clock struck midnight into 2024. “I’m finishing the album I was supposed to release this year. My plan actual plan for this album was to release it on January 1st. I was going to say nothing, and then do a fake apology on the 31st, and then surprise drop on the 1st today. But I always rush to finish things.

JPEGMAFIA Promises His New Album Is Coming In 2024

“I apologize to my fans i promised an album to this year, the album will be out 2024,” JPEGMAFIA continued. “I just have to keep working, to make it as best as possible for you. Happy holidays. To all the people in my life I love and that love me. & happy new year to all, even my enemies and their ugly a** kids and families. I will see you all next year.” What’s more is that the Black Ben Carson also reflected on his career history this year. For example, he re-released his 2013 mixtape The Ghost Pop Tape in its original version, plus a remastered edition.

Meanwhile, with the 34-year-old producing for various amazing artists, such as a recent credit on Armand Hammer’s new album, hopefully he keeps collaborating with other artists. He basically turns any song into his own whether he’s on the mic or behind the board, and seeing these fusions is always a thrill. Here’s to another top-tier and boundary-pushing album from Barrington Hendricks in 2024. For more news and the latest updates on JPEGMAFIA, stay posted on HNHH.

Skepta Finally Announces New Album, Lead Single Coming In January

Just about a month ago, Skepta teamed up with 19-year-old producer Ryder for the 48 Hours EP, a solid offering. However, its quality still didn’t dissuade his fan from lamenting the lack of a full-length solo album since 2020’s Insomnia, although a new house-based project with Jammer under the name Más Tiempo is apparently in the works. Regardless, die-hards are still waiting for a follow-up, but fortunately, 2024 brings us very good news. It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours into the year as of writing this article, and we’re already sure that many listeners found their most anticipated project of the year.

“It’s been years since I dropped my last album,” Skepta shared in a message to his various social media accounts on Monday (January 1). “I want to thank you for all the love during my hiatus. I’ve seen the messages, tweets and Tik Toks, I’m truly grateful that my music is still resonating with the world, even in my absence. I’m happy to announce my next studio album #KnifeAndFork is loading this year, the first single #GasMeUp (Diligent) will be out January 26th. Can’t wait to see you all @bigsmokefestival happy 2024.”

Skepta Unveils New Album, Knife And Fork

Furthermore, it looks like the legendary grime MC is finally coming through with some LP heat in this new year. Hopefully no release hiccups or delays occur, but at least we already have solid indication that “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” is going to be a banger. A snippet of the Skepta single released on social media recently, and many fans are singing its praises. The “Can’t Play Myself” artist flows with easy skill and the same confidence as ever over a perc-heavy and blissfully woozy trap instrumental.

Listen To The “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” Snippet

Meanwhile, as his A$AP Rocky collab “Praise Da Lord (Da Shine)” hit 1 billion Spotify streams, Big Smoke has a lot to celebrate from 2023. Fortunately, it seems like he’s focusing those successes and that time off to really hone in on something special for his fanbase. Playboi Carti & Travis Scott Dropping New Music Tonight

Playboi Carti’s Music is almost here, with an early January drop in the cards and various singles coming out on non-streaming social media platforms. Moreover, it seems like he didn’t want to waste any time in 2024, and is acting quite fast to get fans even more excited. To do so, the Atlanta native tapped one of the biggest artists working today, someone with whom he crafted one of the biggest songs of 2023. The “FE!N,” “Love Hurts,” and “Green & Purple” duo is back, as he and Travis Scott are apparently dropping new music tonight (Monday, January 1) at 9:30PM (time zone unclear). In a clip used to announce this, presumably one of the Whole Lotta Red stars onstage goons shouts out the good news.

Furthermore, this falls in line with previous hints of new music coming very soon from Playboi Carti’s producer, F1lthy. It seems like this confirms that was the case, even if the timeline that he set out wasn’t exactly how things ended up panning out. Still, there’s a lot of excitement for the rage pioneer to come through with another defining body of work, and it’s unclear what styles or sounds he will champion on this. Teases like “UR THE MOON,” “2024,” and “H00DBYAIR” sound less rage-heavy and more ethereal or rooted in typical trap.

Travis Scott & Playboi Carti Are Dropping Tonight

Of course, this isn’t all that’s contributing to this album cycle; after all, even Playboi Carti has to play the extracurricular game. In this case, it relates to relationship rumors, which are a bit concerning given his history with romantic trouble and alleged abuse and neglect in the past. Regardless, when the 28-year-old and Camila Cabello were spotted on a FaceTime call, people still went straight to the rumor mill to speculate. It’s certainly a very different headline that we’re not used to seeing with his rollouts.

Meanwhile, the “King Vamp” MC’s ex, Iggy Azalea, recently accused him of being an absent father again after he posted a clip of him with their son Onyx. A lot of drama surfaced around this in 2023, and hopefully 2024 brings better news regarding it. But what fans know for sure is that this year is finally going to end the drought for new Playboi Carti. For more news on him and the latest updates on Travis Scott, keep checking in with HNHH.
