Pries Releases Passionate New Single, “Stoop Kid”

Denver artist Pries is back with a new single “Stoop Kid,” ahead of his upcoming album GameCast. The track is as impassioned as it is peaceful, with rapid flows contrasting an airy instrumental. Moreover, it reflects his sharpened skills, which he showcased on the 20-track album Beautifully Depressed in February of 2021.

Furthermore, “Stoop Kid” sees the rapper and singer in a motivated but slightly melancholy state of mind. That reflective quality comes through thanks to the instrumental, which features some high-pitched and atmospheric vocal samples. With a soft acoustic guitar riffing in the background, a dreamless version of this track would sound like absolute bliss. Moreover, the Denver MC’s sung harmonies further into the track cap the song off with a lot of emotion.

However, there are some elements in the track that contrast the breezy melodies in the track. For one, there’s the sharp and busy drum pattern that runs through “Stoop Kid.” It might feel slightly jarring at first, but it keeps the track energized and dynamic. Moreover, it sets up a compelling performance from Pries to spit some interesting bars.

While the track’s instrumental is hopeful, Pries’ verses go through a lot of his hardships. Moreover, he discusses hustling in multiple ways. Whether it’s getting a crib for his family, working hard to get paid, or roaming the streets for a way out, his story feels compelling. What’s more is that it feels earnest, delivered with a lot of conviction and focus. On the flow end of things, the Denver rapper never breaks his streak and keeps up an engaging energy.

Quotable Lyrics

NLE Choppa Returns With New Song “23”

Memphis hitmaker NLE Choppa is back with his new single “23,” a measured banger that looks to the future. Moreover, previous singles like “Do It Again” with 2Rare also built up hype for the rapper’s sophomore album coming this spring, reportedly titled Cottonwood 2. On this new track, the 20-year-old flows easily over a dramatic and hard-hitting beat about his goals for the new year.

Furthermore, the “Ice Spice” MC told listeners that they can expect new things from him with this track. “Sent a hit off of Discord, it’s 2023,” he raps on the chorus, “New year, new me, it’s 2023.” After a slew of other successful singles and charity efforts, his 2022 was already prolific. For example, he’s readying up for his next project through the NLE Reading Challenge, which he’s promoting to empower impoverished youth. Also, he announced pop-up appearances on his This Can’t Be Vegan Food truck to promote healthier eating habits. He’ll document and share his travels on his YouTube channel.

Back to this new track, though, you wouldn’t guess Choppa’s good-hearted efforts. Moreover, the beat here is quite murderous, with dramatic string sections and atmospheric ad-libs backed by sharp and impactful drums. Given his fast and varied flows on the track, it makes for a very dynamic listen. “The old shit ain’t goin’ forward, this a newer me,” he raps. “Probably knew me last year, but you don’t know me.”

Moreover, the “Shotta Flow” artist left quite a few things behind in 2022. His public break-up with his then-girlfriend Marissa Da’Nae caused a stir online for their back-and-forth. However, it seems things cooled off since then, and the conversation is back to his next artistic moves.

Still, what did you think of NLE Choppa’s new single, “23”? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and check out some standout bars down below. Also, if you haven’t heard it yet, you can find the single on your preferred streaming service and its music video on YouTube. As always, check back in with HNHH for the best new music each week.

Anderson .Paak & Cordae Announce Drop J. Cole-Produced Track, “Two Tens”

Cordae & Anderson .Paak will release “Two Tens,” a collaboration with J. Cole as producer. Moreover, XXL reported that new cover art for the team-up surfaced online, with it being all the official info fans have to go by. Still, this could be a really exciting cut from three versatile talents in the game right now.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 25: Anderson .Paak and YBN Cordae perform onstage at the LiveXLive Pre-Grammy Jam Featuring YBN Cordae And Friends at The Peppermint Club on January 25, 2020 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Roger Kisby/Getty Images for LiveXLive)

In fact, this would mark another collaboration for .Paak and the former YBN MC, who previously worked together on “RNP.” Furthermore, that song was on Cordae’s acclaimed 2019 effort, The Lost Boy. Since then, unfortunately, they haven’t made anything else together. However, “RNP” is filled with so much chemistry that the thought of a “sequel” is pretty enticing.

Then there’s the fact that J. Cole is apparently behind the board for this single. Given Cordae and Cole’s similar artistic lanes and clear kindred spirit, this will excite Stans of either artist. Funnily enough, the closest they’ve come to an official collaboration is Cordae’s track “Old n***as,” which uses the beat from Cole’s “1985.” Readers may remember that track as a tough conversation between “old heads” and “the new school.” To see that growth finalized on this upcoming track could be a special moment for hip-hop in 2023.

Meanwhile, the Off-Season MC and the Silk Sonic member collaborated on the latter’s 2018 album Oxnard for the song “Trippy.” Much like “RNP,” “Trippy” is all we’ve gotten as far as a collab, and it left fans salivating.

However, all artists have been busy with releases, singles, and achievements of their own. Most recently, J. Cole did something truly special and uploaded a verse he wrote over a “J. Cole type beat” on YouTube. What’s more is that he sent his song (titled “Procrastination (Broke)“) to the type beat’s producer so they could upload it to their channel. The veteran MC said that he was with little motivation, searching for inspiration, and found it in their beat.

How do you think this Cordae and Anderson .Paak track produced by J. Cole will shape up? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest rumored releases from your favorite artists.

Shady Blu & Babyface Ray Are The “Topic Of Discussion” In New Song

2023 is still in its early stages, but it’s already exciting to see new artists come up in the scene. California-based artist Shady Blu just dropped “Topic of Discussion” with Babyface Ray, after last year’s breakout single “Jealousy.” Moreover, she delivered a confident and uniquely animated performance over a glistening beat.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 24: Shady Blu attends Interscope + Geffen Records 2022 BET Awards Celebration with Tattooed Chef and PATRÓN at La Mesa on June 24, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Cassidy Sparrow/Getty Images for Interscope Records)

Back in 2021, Blu signed to MixedByAli’s label NoName Recordings, in partnership with Interscope. While she’s just getting started in the industry, Ali heard her music and has worked with her a lot since then. Moreover, some of his most notable credits include ScHoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, and Nipsey Hussle. What’s more is that West Coast legend Snoop Dogg gave Blu a cosign just about a week ago.

Given all that, Shady is a name to watch out for in the coming months, if not years given her already-impressive output. Moreover on this track, she switches effortlessly from low-key, hushed deliveries and expressive, warmly vocal runs. Alongside one of Detroit’s most exciting spitters working today, she keeps up that energy with ease.

Furthermore, the Long Beach native will drop her debut EP Topic of Discussion on February 6th. Moreover, the project is executive produced by MixedByAli and will feature compelling blends of hip-hop and R&B. Even with this one track, that description seems fitting. “Topic of Discussion” features a sharp but quick rhythm that contrasts engagingly with the shimmery, bright keys in the background. Even though the beat is slightly odd given that contrast, Blu’s expressive vocals blend with it to create something charming.

Still, what did you think of “Topic of Discussion” from Shady Blu and Babyface Ray? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep some quotable lines down below. Also, if you haven’t heard the track yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service and check out the music video below. As always, stay tuned to HNHH for the best new releases of the week.

Summer Walker Teases New Project Without Auto-Tune

One of R&B’s most versatile singers promised fans that she’s going back to her roots, and they can’t get enough. Summer Walker recently shared some pictures of her in the studio and teased “an autotune free project.” Moreover, she showed a digital audio workstation (DAW) with many tracks and audio recordings, which look like something grandiose.

As such, many in the comments were incredibly excited at the prospect. Some even referenced earlier projects or tracks of hers like “Session 32,” an intimate fan-favorite and one of her first big hits. Since then, albums like “Over It” have cemented her presence in the industry with a variety of styles and approaches.

However, this isn’t the first time that the Atlanta native hinted at a new direction. Following what many perceived to be a Grammy snub last November, Walker wrote the following on Instagram: “These award shows gone play me [regardless] ima go back to making the soul music I love.”

Many fans agree. “And she still needs to get all her trophies & flowers for the “Over it” Album, the Album is LEGENDARY,” one user commented under the new post.

Although she set expectations high with this new tease, it’s also incredibly admirable considering that she recently welcomed twins. She recently shared how she dreamt of motherhood and how she reached her goal.

“I really reached my goal of hella kids before 30,” the “No Love” star posted on her IG story. Also, she reflected on how difficult yet rewarding the birth process was for her.

“I’m so proud of myself,” she wrote. “Just sharing to inspire other women, cause I know once you carry twins to almost 42 weeks, especially with one breech, people will try to steer you towards induction or C-section.

You can do it,” the 26-year-old continued. “This was my second home birth all natural 7 hrs, no tearing & I couldn’t of done it without my spirit guides, Godparents, birth team, my elders, & the best dad doula ever Larry lol, he was so hands on the whole time I was really impressed it wasn’t easy but it gets done.”

Are you excited for a new Summer Walker project with no auto-tune? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest on upcoming music in hip-hop and R&B.

Nelly Gives Weird Performance At Juicy Fest

While artists love to give it their all on stage, sometimes it might be too much for fans. Nelly recently turned heads at Juicy Fest in Melbourne, Australia for his odd performance. Moreover, he performed with other notable artists from the 2000s such as Ja Rule, Xzibit, Mya, and many more. Following last year’s clips of him performing to younger girls, this isn’t the only rodeo we’ve had with his shows.

In recently surfaced clips, you can see the St. Louis artists performing his song, “Over and Over” featuring Tim McGraw. During his show, he was smiling and shouting his lyrics quite expressively. Still, it all seems in line with typical stage antics and excitement. After all, when you’ve worked as long as Nelly, you’ve got to find different ways to perform the same song over and over again. However, people really expressed their worries when his eyes rolled into the back of his head at a few points.

As such, many online were quick to clown the show and Nelly’s erratic stage presence. “When that edible starts TO FIGHT BACK,” one user wrote under a clip of his singing. “Like look at this n***a lmao,” another wrote. “He is WASHED, DREDGED, BATTERED AND DEEP FRIED lmaoo.”

Moreover, the last we heard of Nelly was from longtime friend Ashanti, who said she’d work with her ex again last year. She actually teased it multiple times, but most recently discussed so with Selena Hill.

“I don’t know if we’re gonna go to the studio or anything together,” she stated. “But what I will say is, again, we’re both very business savvy. If an opportunity presents itself to make a record and get to the bag, we’re probably gonna be all in.”

Still, with this recent performance clip in mind, fans might be expecting something different if Nelly drops new music. As one of the 2000s’ brightest and most impactful stars, a comeback wouldn’t be surprising. However, let’s see if this is part of his performance gimmick or if he addresses the viral clip.

What do you think of Nelly’s bizarre performance at Juicy Fest this year? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for more weird, curious, or straight up bizarre hip-hop happenings.

J. Cole Drops New Song “Procrastination (Broke)” On Producer’s YouTube Channel

If you’re a type-beat producer hustling on YouTube, then one of the greatest rappers right now wants you to keep that hustle going. Surprisingly, J. Cole just dropped a new song called “Procrastination (Broke)” exclusively on YouTube. Moreover, it’s on producer Bvtman’s channel, who made a J. Cole type beat that the veteran MC found inspiration in. According to J. Cole’s message to the producer, he found the beat when looking for inspiration.

“On a day when I couldn’t find much motivation,” the “my life” rapper wrote, “I was looking for anything to inspire me. Out of curiosity, I typed in ‘J. Cole type beat’ into YouTube. Yours was the first I saw. I pressed play, focused, and wrote this.”

Furthermore, the track is laidback, woozy, yet introspective and pristine in a way J. Cole does best. Still, over looping and reverb-heavy guitars, a breezy drum pattern injects a lot of soul into the song. Unsurprisingly, Cole flows with ease over the calm instrumental and delivers a slightly melancholy, but ultimately inspirational verse. While he sounds downtrodden, he wants to inspire others to keep searching for their truth through music.

“This song should live on your channel and serve as a thank you to you and every producer out there cooking up and sharing their work with the world,” he wrote to Batman. “It’s a million artists out there right now just like me, hungry and searching every day for something to spark a word, a melody, a hook, a verse, a punchline, a way to vent, or a way to CUT THROUGH.

“This is some s**t that would normally stay in the vault,” he continued, “but I don’t want to hold onto the music like that no more. This is for you and whoever else need to hear it. God bless bro and keep doing what you do!”

Also, the producer was very thankful to the North Carolina MC in the video’s description.

“Much love and appreciation to this right here & J Cole,” they wrote. “More life. Bless. One Love. – Bvtman.”

Still, what did you think of J. Cole’s latest song “Procrastination (Broke),” where he raps over his own type beat? Regardless, let us know in the comments and peep some notable lines from the song down below. Also, if you haven’t hear the track yet, check it out on producer Bvtman’s YouTube channel below and check out his other work. As always, stay tuned to HNHH for the best new music releases each week, and maybe one day your type beat will be on here, too.

And I still relate to that procrastination for tasks
‘Cause I need to finish this album
But hell, how many more times
Can I send this wooden pail down in that well
And pull it back up with the hope that it’s filled?

Jay-Z Will Help Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

As football fans and regular old schmoes anticipate the 2023 Super Bowl, hip-hop and R&B fans have an extra reason to celebrate. Jay-Z will reportedly help Rihanna with her Super Bowl halftime show on February 12th. Moreover, capitalfm.com reported that Roc Nation as a whole is also involved in the process.

Furthermore, this news is exciting for the “Umbrella” collaborators, although not at all surprising. After all, Hov is the live music entertainment strategist for the NFL. Also, he signed RiRi back in 2004 when he was the president and CEO of Def Jam. All in all, audiences expect a crazy event when she lands at Glendale, Arizona’s State Farm Stadium. Here’s hoping they perform some hits together.

Meanwhile, all parties understand the excitement behind the show. The “B***h Better Have My Money” artist teased her performance on Instagram last week. In the snippet, the recently-turned mother walks towards the camera in a black bodysuit with a yellow fur coat. While she reaches the camera, you can hear soundbites of people lamenting the lack of music from her. Then, RiRi puts a finger to her lips, shushes the haters, and “Needed Me” plays. Even if it’s a teaser for new music and not the show itself, that prepared fans with hype regardless.

However, one question on everyone’s mind is whether she’ll bring out special guests. It’s a Super Bowl staple, as last year brought us a legendary hip-hop team-up. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Anderson .Paak… RiRi’s got some competition. Still, any information on the fashion mogul’s show is top-secret, though we’re sure she will stun. Although guests are expected, she did tell E! News last November that she might perform alone given her short 12-minute slot.

“Twelve minutes?” the 34-year-old exclaimed. “You could actually do that by yourself, but it’s one of those things where you can decorate it however you want. So whether I choose to do it for myself or whether I choose to bring some of my peers on, it’s…I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet. It’s gonna be great either way.” Regardless of her show format, the football will commence at 6:30pm ET on Fox Sports. Meanwhile, the “Bad Gal”‘s halftime show is set to start at 8pm ET.

What do you think of Jay-Z helping organize Rihanna’s 2023 Super Bowl halftime show? Do you think he’ll pop out for a verse or two? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, check back in with HNHH for the latest on RiRi’s upcoming spectacle.

Vedo Goes Through “Mood Swings” On New Album

Michigan-born singer Vedo graced fans with Mood Swings, his latest solo album since 2021’s 1320. On it, the R&B star toys with varying styles in the genre, from classic sultry slow-burns to brighter trap-influenced tunes. Overall, it makes a concise and varied collection of tracks that don’t overstay their welcome.

While Vedo garnered his fame among other stars on The Voice, this album doesn’t need much outside assistance. Moreover, there are only two features listed: rapper-singer Tink and superstar Chris Brown. Him and Vedo released their track “Do You Mind” just last week as a single.

Furthermore, that track is one of the more upbeat and breezy moments on the album. Also, it’s playfully lustful and provides a nice contrast to the project’s more melancholy cuts like “FOREVER.” Some standout lines from the song are “I like what I like, I’m not the type that’s gon’ be stalkin’ you. Oh, I know I’m a player but I’ll wait up, shoot my shot and then I follow through. You so good, I wanna give my heart to you. Put that ass in park and send a car to you.”

That being said, the former Voice contestant also throws it back to more old-school styles of R&B. For example, there’s the opener “Waterfalls,” with its wailing guitars, lumbering tempo, and cavernous drums. Moreover, there’s a nice variety of snap beats, trap percussion, and live instrumentation to make each track feel part of a larger whole. However, Vedo’s vocal range and melodic tendencies are always at its core.

Still, what did you think of Vedo’s new album, Mood Swings? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep the tracklist down below. Also, if you haven’t listened to the album yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service. As always, stay up to date with HNHH for the best new releases in R&B.

Reuben Vincent Stays “Trickin’” On New Song With Domani

Reuben Vincent just released “Trickin’” with Domani, a soulful, downtrodden, yet beautifully produced and performed single. Moreover, it keeps up his collaborations with 9th Wonder through his Jamla Records label. The last we heard from them on the site was the single “High Noon” with Rapsody and Murs, and it looks like Vincent is prepping for a big new step.

Furthermore, the Charlotte rapper is dropping his Jamla debut, Love Is War, sometime this January. While he’s only 22 years old, he’s already making a name for himself as a thoughtful and skilled writer. In a press statement, Vincent explained this track’s themes of relationship struggles in the current generation.

“‘Trickin” is a tale of three stories,” he stated. “The song amplifies the wrongs in dating culture today for my generation and how it plays out in different scenarios. The first verse is something I lived. I was involved with a girl in a situationship, and once she caught feelings I became detached and acknowledge my imperfections.

“In the second verse,” he continued, “I speak from the perspective of a guy ‘tricking’ on a girl, thinking he has the upper hand when ultimately it’s the other way around. I’ve lived the first experience first-hand and witnessed the second one happen to many other people. After I recorded my verses, I drove down to Atlanta the next day and played it for Domani and he immediately hopped on it; the rest is history.

“All im’a say is make sure you remember when, and where you were when you first heard this song because that question WILL be asked in the next ten years,” featured guest Domani added.  “Trickin” is Storytelling + Vulnerable-Ignorance= Art.”

Still, what did you think of this new track from up-and-comer Reuben Vincent, “Trickin’” featuring Domani? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments and peep some quotable bars down below. Also, if you haven’t heard this song yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service. As always, log back into HNHH for the latest great hip-hop each week.

Quotable Lyrics

How considerate of I to be so ignorant,
To play her like a fiddle but my strings are moving different,
Was she something that she did that was wrong? Or
Maybe this was just the boy intentions all along
