YoungBoy Never Broke Again Drops New Album 'Decided 2'

YoungBoy Never Broke Again has once again captivated fans with the release of his latest album, Decided 2, dropping via Never Broke Again / Motown Records. Serving as the sequel to the acclaimed 2018 release “Decided,” the album features previously unveiled singles like “Now Who,” “My Body,” and “Deep Down.”

Despite maintaining a low profile, YoungBoy has quietly climbed the ranks to become the third most-streamed artist in the United States, trailing only Drake and Taylor Swift, according to Luminate. The artist made history in 2023 by securing 100 career Hot 100 hits, a feat unmatched across all genres.

Following the success of his mixtape Richest Opp in May 2023, which debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200, and the April 2023 album Don’t Try This At Home, which reached #1 on US Apple Music and the Top R&B and HipHop charts, Decided 2 continues YoungBoy’s streak of chart-topping success. This album marks his 14th US top-10 album, solidifying his status as one of the most impactful artists in the rap scene.

Today in Hip-Hop History: UGK Released Their First Studio Album ‘Too Hard To Swallow’ 31 Years Ago

Too Hard to Swallow

On this date in 1992, Bun B and Pimp C put out their first studio release Too Hard To Swallow and began their extremely successful career as Underground Kingz.

With UGK (short for Underground Kingz) being one of the first rap groups to come out of Texas to be regarded nationally, it’s easy to see how important it is to the South. At this time in the early 90s, there wasn’t much coming from anywhere other than New York or California. The only southern rappers that had hits were fellow Texas natives Geto Boys and Miami-based rappers 2 Live Crew. When this album dropped, it opened up a door for a whole new wave of southern rap to emerge.

Unlike the funkier, sample-heavy beats that UGK became known for rapping over later in their career, this album is true to its name as far as its production. The beats are a lot more aggressive and so is the lyricism. Nevertheless, this album is full of hits that are considered classics of the group’s catalog. These three tracks are “Something Good”, “Use Me Up” which hails a Bill Withers sample, and “Pocket Full of Stones”, which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1992 hood classic, Menace II Society.

The album was recorded over a year period from 1991 to 1992 and released on November 9th, 1992 under Jive Records, the early 90s powerhouse label hosting acts such as E-40, A Tribe Called Quest, R.Kelly, and the late Aaliyah. The album has so far sold 369,511 copies and peaked at 37th on the Billboard US R&B Charts. After this album, UGK went on to put out five albums until the untimely passing of member Pimp C in 2007.

Happy Heavenly Birthday To TS(Terror Squad) Lieutenant Big Pun!

Big Pun

Born on this day in 1971 in Bronx, NY, Terror Squad lieutenant Christopher ‘Big Pun” Rios grew from an exceptional emcee that stood side to side by Fat Joe during his Jealous One’s Still Envy heyday to morphing into one of the game’s greatest lyricists of all time.

Big Punisher initially entered the rap game in the mid-80s as a member and founder of underground hip-hop collective Full-A-Clips and at the time, went under the moniker Big Moon Dawg, which was drawn from a famed pro wrestler with the same name. Recordings from the collective have been concealed and remain unreleased, but are known to be the earliest recordings of the late Puerto Rican emcee.

After Pun received a Grammy for “I’m Not A Player”, the full-length, double-disc version of his debut Capital Punishment was released the following year,. The album went platinum causing Pun to make history as the first Hip Hop solo act of Latino descent to achieve the mark.

On February 7th, 2000 during a momentary stay at Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, New York, Pun faced a fatal heart attack and respiratory failure. He weighed 698 pounds at the time of his death, the highest weight in his lifetime. He withdrew from a Saturday Night Live performance two days prior where he was scheduled to perform with Fat Joe and Jennifer Lopez.

Meek Mill and Rick Ross Detail Working on Joint Album: ‘This the Culture’

unnamed 29 1696020248

Before releasing their joint album Too Good To Be True, Rick Ross and Meek Mill pulled up on Zane Lowe at Apple Music 1 to discuss the album. Rick Ross called the album unpredictable.

“This the culture,” Ross said. “It’s too good to be true and man, it just feel good, and it was too easy. We set it off. We both know what our true gifts are, our talents are when it comes to production. So when it came to this vibe, it was really simple. It didn’t take a lot of time, but we brought the best out of each other. This was just personal.”

He added, “This was just me and Meek and that was just us in the studio. It wasn’t a lot of people, just the team, the private team. Meek, his team, my team, Sam Sneak, Brion, the producers, and we kept it uncut. We went straight to the vein with it. “

Meek Mill also added notes on the album, “When we get in the studio, that shitt gets serious. Ross getting into serious mode. He trying to knock that shit out and get to work. And you know me, he giving me that gas.

“I’m going to run jumping out that window a hundred miles an hour. But we joke all the time. You’re going to see a lot of that throughout the content and all that. And it’s organic too, Zane. We came up with this idea and we got around each other, built, vibed out and then got in the studio. It don’t matter where we’re recording at, we could be in the closet, Rose going to get this shit done.”

You can hear the project’s lead single, “Shaq & Kobe” below.
