Mac Miller’s Posthumous Album ‘Balloonerism’ Gets A Chill New Preview With ‘5 Dollar Pony Rides’

It’s been over 7 years now since Mac Miller’s premature death, and while he was only 26 years old, he left behind an incredible hip-hop legacy. That legacy has continued since his passing via posthumous releases, with the 2020 album Circles and the upcoming Balloonerism. The latter is set to drop on January 17 (just before his January 19 birthday), and now the loose and chill track “5 Dollar Pony Rides” has been released today (January 9).

A statement previously shared by Miller’s family says of the album:

“Many of Malcolm’s fans are aware of Balloonerism, a full-length album that Malcolm created around the time of the release of Faces in 2014. It is a project that was of great importance to Malcolm — to the extent that he commissioned artwork for it and discussions concerning when it should be released were had regularly, though ultimately GO:OD AM and subsequent albums ended up taking precedence.

We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist. Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world. With that in mind, we’re happy to announce that Balloonerism will be released on January 17th, 2025.”

Balloonerism is out 11/17 via Warner Records. Find more information here.

Iggy Pop Reveals How Tyler The Creator Has “Old School Talent”

Iggy Pop showed love to Tyler, The Creator during a recent episode of his BBC Radio 6 show, Iggy Confidential. The praise comes after the two, alongside ASAP Rocky, starred in a Gucci Tailoring campaign ad back in 2020. “I’ve always liked Tyler. I did a day’s work with him once, and he would do what it takes to get attention,” Iggy said. “He’s also a genuine all-around song, dance, writer, talent — a genuine old-school talent with a new-school approach.”

Iggy isn’t the only legendary musician to praise Tyler in recent days. Speaking with HipHopDX, earlier this week, Ice Cube said of the Odd Future founder: “That’s L.A. That’s the L.A. people don’t know about — ultra-creative individuals who won’t conform to the culture of gangbanging. They’re going to be themselves. He reminds me of, like, The Pharycde. Here’s another: the Black Eyed Peas come from here. You’re going to always have those groups who are going to stay down with their own style and their own flavor, and going to win with it. Because they’re not conforming, they’re not being what you want them to be; they’re being who they are. And you gotta salute that.”

Iggy Pop and Ice Cube’s praise for Tyler comes after he dropped his latest album, Chromakopia, last October. The project features collaborations with a number of stars including Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, Solange, Schoolboy Q, Sexyy Red, Thundercat, and Teezo Touchdown, among others. It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, having moved 299,500 album-equivalent units in its first week.

Lil Rod Claims Music Industry Is Full Of People Like Diddy In Chilling Doc Trailer

It goes without saying that Diddy’s legal battle is just getting started. The Bad Boy founder was arrested in September of 2024 on charges related to alleged sex trafficking and racketeering. On top of that, he was hit with several lawsuits from individuals accusing him of sexual assault, abuse, and more throughout the year. Now, he’s behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting a trial scheduled to begin in May.

Recently, ID and Maxine Productions unveiled a trailer for their upcoming docuseries about the mogul’s downfall, appropriately titled The Fall of Diddy. The four-part doc will feature accounts from some of Diddy’s alleged victims. This includes those known to the public and “those coming forward for the first time with deeply disturbing accounts of their encounters with Combs.” One of these individuals is Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, Diddy’s producer who sued him last year for alleged sexual harassment, drugging, and more. “[There are] a lot of people like Puffy in the music business,” he explains in the trailer. “Exposing Puffy means exposing them.”

ID Prepares To Unveil New Docuseries The Fall Of Diddy

Another individual featured in the doc is Thalia Graves, who sued both Diddy and his bodyguard Joseph “Big Joe” Sherman in September. She accuses them both of assaulting her at an NYC Bad Boy Studio in 2001 when she was 25. She additionally accuses them of filming the alleged assault and later attempting to profit off of it. “I always believed that I was the only victim,” she says.

The Fall of Diddy is set to premiere across two nights, January 27 and 28, at 9 p.m. E.T. on ID. This isn’t the only Diddy doc coming out this month, however. Peacock’s documentary, Diddy: The Making Of A Bad Boy, is also scheduled to go live on January 14. The trailer, which came out earlier this month, features Al B. Sure! as well as other insiders.

Jim Jones Explains Why Drake’s UMG Legal Battle Is A “Power Move”

Jim Jones says that Drake’s decision to take legal action against Universal Music Group over the release of Kendrick Lamar’s diss track, “Not Like Us,” was a “power move.” Drake accused the company of defamation, suggesting they should’ve blocked some of the lyrics from being included in the final release of the hit song. Additionally, he accused them of allegedly artificially boosting its success. Jones discussed the allegations during a recent interview with Justin Laboy.

“There’s a lot of things that go on when somebody does a power move like that,” Jones began. “Anytime a person like that does some sh*t that ain’t just small fries or sh*t like that, when you dealing with social media, people make everything seem smaller than what it is. Whatever it is, that’s not my field. If it works in his favor, I hope it do. I don’t think him doing that with businesses is no reflection of the streets.”

He continued: “That’s two different things. That’s straight business… I didn’t hear them say he was suing Kendrick Lamar, I didn’t hear them say he was suing somebody personally. I seen people sue AT&T and Pepsi and get a bag for it. People bring lawsuits against companies all the time and nobody holds that against them.” Despite Jones’ support, many voices in hip-hop have clowned Drake’s decision, such as Charlamagne Tha God. UMG has already denied the allegations. Elsewhere in Jones’ interview with Laboy, he called out 50 Cent and Cam’ron.

Darius Garland Says He Heard A New LiAngelo Ball Song Is Coming Out Friday

LiAngelo Ball (aka Gelo) has one of the most popular songs out right now, which is definitely not something anyone expected to be the case to start 2025. His song “Tweakers” became a viral sensation, with folks creating a ton of videos having some fun with its retro sound, dressing and dancing like it’s 2003 again to the incredibly catchy hook.

It has not only become a favorite of social media but of NBA and NFL teams too, and can be heard in arenas and locker rooms all over. The Cavs have adopted it as one of their celebratory songs after a win. While the arena played it after they beat the Hornets to poke some fun at LaMelo Ball, the Cavs locker room has embraced the song earnestly. After their big win on Wednesday night against the Thunder, Darius Garland confirmed to ESPN’s Michael Eaves that he would be putting Gelo on in the locker room when he got in there, and also teased that there’s a new track coming on Friday from the middle Ball brother.

“I got the aux. You know we gonna bump Gelo,” Garland said. “Shout out to my boy Gelo, he got a banger — he got another one comin’ out Friday, I heard. So we gonna be in tune for that one.”

We’ll see if Garland’s sources are correct, but it’d make sense for Gelo to try and capitalize on his moment with another song. He already got a spot at Rolling Loud California to go along with his viral fame and spot on seemingly every locker room playlist, and now he’ll try to back it up with another banger for this weekend.

Joe Budden Delivers His Take On LiAngelo Ball’s Viral Single “Tweaker”

2025 is off to a strong start for LiAngelo Ball, whose new single “Tweaker” only continues to go viral. He first previewed the song during a stream with N3on earlier this month and dropped the full version a few days later. It’s since received a great deal of praise from fans and peers alike, with huge artists like Boosie Badazz and MoneyBagg Yo even offering to hop on remixes.

Of course, this means the track was one of the first things Joe Budden discussed in the latest episode of his podcast. Needless to say, his feedback was nothing but positive. “On the credits, it says that LaMelo produced this,” he began. “It says he produced and arranged it, it says that Lonzo wrote it, and it says that LiAngelo performed it… I love that about them.” Budden continued, revealing that he’s a fan of all the memes he’s been seeing about the viral song lately.

Joe Budden Is A Fan Of LiAngelo Ball’s Viral Hit

“This sh*t do sound like a Big Tymers record to me,” he also added. “I like the song. I like the song, I ain’t gon’ lie, sorry.” Budden and his co-hosts went on to debate whether or not Ball could successfully release an album. While Budden didn’t seem entirely sure about this, his co-hosts appeared to believe it wasn’t off the table. “I think a lot of these n****s got a album in them though,” Ice explained. “This ain’t Allen Iverson doing ’40 Bars’ again where they’re like interjecting hip-hop into the NBA. This is a new era, like all of these n****s grew up literally on hip-hop.”

LiAngelo Ball’s viral song wasn’t the only thing Budden addressed during the episode, as he also discussed his recent lewdness charge. Reportedly, a neighbor captured the personality trying to get into his apartment on his Ring doorbell camera while completely naked in December. Budden, who has been open about his sleepwalking habits in the past, fortunately beat the case.
