On this date in 1994, Brand Nubian’s Lord Jamar and Sadat X, without the group’s founder, Grand Puba, released the New Rochelle-based crew’s second album Everything Is Everything on the Elektra imprint.

Two years after Puba got a taste of the solo artist life with his Reel To Reel LP, Dotty and Lord J along with DJ Sincere put their heads together to put out an album that was almost exclusively produced by Lord Jamar himself. There weren’t a bunch of guest appearances besides fellow 5%er Busta Rhymes on the “Nubian Jam” and DITC’s Buckwild, who produced Sadat’s solo track “Alladat”. Despite the lackluster reception and commercial success of the project, the album produced two solid singles; “Word Iz Bond” and “Hold On”, which were featured on a number of syndicated television series. The single “Lick Dem Muthaphuckas” was featured on the Menace 2 Society soundtrack.

Salute to Jamar, Dot, Sincere, Buckwild for creating this important piece Hip Hop History!

On this date thirty six ago, Hip-Hop’s greatest storyteller Slick Rick dropped his debut LP The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick on the Def Jam imprint.

MC Ricky D came on the scene with the “Original Human Beat Box” Doug E. Fresh in 1985 with the party anthem “The Show” and the X-rated flip side “La Di Da Di”. His highly anticipated debut LP is one of Hip Hop’s iconic projects that presented a concept, maintained a tempo with timeless lyrics and unforgettable beats courtesy of The Bomb Squad and Rick himself.

Being one of the few albums in the history of The Source that received the coveted Five Mics, it’s hard to pinpoint just a handful tracks that made the album stand out, however, there are some all-time favorites that still ring relevant three decades later. Storytelling tracks like “The Moment I Feared,” “Treat Her Like A Prostitute” and “Indian Girl” were reminiscent of his “La Di Da Di” days of X-rated rap. Rick served up some classic songs that are still bangin’ in the clubs to this day, including “Children’s Story”, “Mona Lisa” and the epic “Young World”.

Salute The Ruler, his DJ Vance Wright, Rick Rubin, The Bomb Squad and the entire Def Jam squad from the heyday for this timeless classic!

Jennifer Lopez joined Vice President Kamala Harris in the closing days of her presidential campaign.

On Thursday night, Lopez took the stage with Harris in Nevada to call out comments made against Puerto Rico during a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump.

“He reminded us who he really is and how he really feels,” Lopez said. “It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans who were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country, it was humanity and anyone of any decent character.”

Lopez added, “I know what that can feel like and I wouldn’t do it to my worst enemy, or even when facing the biggest adversary I think America has internally ever had. But over Kamala Harris’ entire career, she has proven to us who she is. She has shown up for us every day, for the people. And it’s time for us to show up for her.”

Mariah the Scientist Reacts to Young Thug’s Homecoming on Stage: ‘Let’s Just Make It to the End So I Can Get on This Jet’

Mariah the Scientist was performing in Brooklyn on Halloween, but she was ready to get home to her man, Young Thug. While speaking with fans, she stated, “This shit is so fuckin unbelievable.”

She added, “Let’s just make it to the end so I can get on this jet.”

Young Thug is coming home after a dramatic turn of events. He pleaded guilty to many but not all of the charges against him in the sprawling RICO trial, which was the longest in the history of Georgia’s criminal justice system.

Essentially Thug pleaded nolo contendere, or no contest, to conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and to a leadership charge on criminal participation in criminal gang activity. Sheesh. But look, he’s taking responsibility and the state has agreed.

As for the release conditions Thugger must adhere to to stay out of the system, it pretty much goes like this:

  • Young Thug will serve five years in prison, which has been commuted to time already served
  • Time serve is followed by 15 years of probation.
  • An additional 20 years are backloaded, meaning he could serve this time in custody if he violates probation.
  • Young Thug is prohibited from contacting any other co-defendants in the RICO case, with two exceptions he specifically requested: his biological brother and fellow rapper Gunna so he can maintain his music career.

When we learn more we will post. Stay tuned!

Both Heidi Klum And Janelle Monáe Wore Unbelievably Elaborate ‘ET’ Costumes This Halloween

“Great minds think alike,” as the oft-quoted saying goes, and when it comes to Halloween costumes, perhaps the two greatest minds are Heidi Klum and Janelle Monáe. Year after year, both entertainers go above and beyond with their Halloween costumes, and in 2024, they were on the exact same page: They both went as ET.

Monáe showed off their take on The Jennifer Hudson Show, and their blanket-wrapped version, a spitting image of the movie character, had blinking eyes in the costume head and a light-up finger and heart and everything.

Klum showed off her interpretation at her annual Halloween party yesterday, and it was similarly impressive. The New York Times notes the costume featured a “motorized headpiece with a movable mouth and eyes, controlled remotely by a member of Ms. Klum’s team.” They also noted that given the difficulty of getting in and out of the costume, Klum opted to wear an adult diaper. She said, “Maybe I never need to use the diaper, but at least that way I don’t have to think about it.”

Here is Klum’s ET (with a bonus Questlove appearance):

In a recent Hollywood Reporter interview, Monáe revealed they have “a fairy Halloween mother” who helps fund their costumes, saying, “My job is to make people believe in their imagination. That is a job, that is my purpose. Imagination inspires nations. It is important to the committee of imagineers that I go out and I do that good work. There’s a fund that is set aside to make people believe in art, and again, believe in performance art. What I’m doing is performance art, and it is drawing attention to the need for money in the arts, for more grants for schools. We must tap into the imaginations of our kids. These are the people that are going to be the innovators of the future. I’m so happy to have support of people that believe in performance art and believe in me as the person to get that message out.”

Tyler The Creator Addresses Taylor Swift Fans Being ‘All Mad At Me’ Over His Old Lyrics

Ahead of his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, Tyler The Creator performed in Boston on Halloween for a special “30 Minutes Of Chromakopia” concert. It’s exactly what it sounds like: 30 minutes of the former Odd Future member’s new album, Chromakopia. During the show, the “Sticky” rapper addressed certain Taylor Swift fans trying to “cancel” him over old lyrics after he (briefly) dethroned her on the global Spotify Top Artists chart.

“I got Swifties all mad at me with their racist ass,” he said. “Bringing up old lyrics, b*tch, go listen to ‘Tron Cat,’ I don’t give a f*ck. They gonna bring out the old me.”

You can watch the footage here.

Tyler has brought up Swift multiple times in his songs. On “Fish,” from 2011’s Goblin, he rapped, “B*tches running ’round down, p*ssy take a trip / Make her strip, got my d*ck harder than the unzip / Tyler swiftly slips his d*ck inside of Taylor Swift’s slit / Round trip in that p*ssy, here comes a ticket.” Earlier in the album, on “Nightmare,” he goes, “Love? I don’t get none, that’s why I’m so hostile to the kids that get some / My father called me to tell me he loved me / I’d have a better chance of gettin’ Taylor Swift to f*ck me.”

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre Share “Gorgeous” Featuring Jhene Aiko Ahead Of “Missionary”

On the eve of Halloween, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre formally announced the release date for their first album in over three decades, Missionary. Fans of the D-O-double-G can and the iconic West Coast producer to drop their body of work on December 13. The album is available for pre-save and pre-order, and it will boast 15 tracks with a heaping helping of features. It’s a wild guest list with Tom Petty, Jelly Roll, and Sting being the most left-field names. However, there are plenty you would come to expect, such as Eminem, 50 Cent, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Jhene Aiko.

Speaking of which, the airy R&B vocalist’s track, “Gorgeous,” is out today. The lead single features that West Coast vibe that you come to expect from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Overall, they sound just as in sync as they did when they worked on Doggystyle in the mid-90’s. Aiko’s vocals soar on the chorus, but they aren’t overpowering. It matches up perfectly, because he’s bringing his well-known laid-back verses to the table here. The cover art (and album artwork) is a tell-tale sign of what to expect at least on “Gorgeous,” as Snoop Dogg and Aiko express their sexual desires. It’s fine and catchy way to start the full-circle celebration for this legendary duo and you can check it out below.

To mark the fifth anniversary of One Of The Best Yet, legendary hip-hop duo Gang Starr returns with a fresh single, “FINISHEM,” available now across all streaming platforms. Known for their lasting impact on hip-hop, DJ Premier and Guru continue to inspire fans globally, blending old-school authenticity with timeless style.

Released on November 1, 2019, Gang Starr’s first album in sixteen years was One Of The Best Yet. It received widespread acclaim and lit up billboards from Times Square to London. The project made waves on social media, spiking to the #2 spot in the U.S. album charts.

“As One Of The Best Yet was approaching the five-year anniversary mark, that milestone moved me to create a new track to match the occasion.  The album is special on so many different levels; what it meant to me, Guru’s family, and the fans, it warranted something new to honor the occasion” DJ Premier affirmed.   “I started going through files, looking for something that stood out and fit; and as soon as I heard Guru’s hook “now I’m about to finishem, my rep alone could diminish’em” I knew that was it and went to work crafting a beat for it.  I had some unused Antman Wonder files that I decided to check out, and one of the sounds hit me emotionally from the very first note.  I knew this was the one to shape the song.  The fans always appreciate more Gang Starr—and this one is for them.”

“FINISHEM” keeps Gang Starr’s legacy alive, delivering classic, head-nodding beats and lyrics that remind fans of their enduring influence in hip-hop. The anniversary track promises to be a tribute to their powerful comeback and continued inspiration across generations.
