The Weeknd Has A Near(?) Death Experience In His ‘Dancing In The Flames’ Video

The Weeknd is generally known for embracing dark subject matter with matching aesthetics, and the first single from his new album is very much in that tradition, despite its uplifting production

“Dancing In The Flames” is an uptempo dance-pop ballad of the sort we often get from Abel Tesfaye. With lyrics encouraging a lover to “just have faith,” it seems at first listen to be a more hopeful song — but like, many of his tracks, the glittering beat hides some harrowing content. Fortunately, the video is suitably horrifying; Abel gets into a head-on collision with a semi truck, resulting in what very much looks to be a trip to the afterlife.

As a glimpse of his upcoming sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, it suggests that the nightmarish posture of its immediate predecessors, After Hours and Dawn FM, might be in the past — which is fitting, since Hurry Up Tomorrow is being presented as the conclusion of a trilogy.

The album’s cover, which he shared earlier this week, also seems to bear out this theory, as the photo presents a bare-faced Tesfaye with tears in his eyes, a stark contrast to the old man makeup from Dawn FM and the bloodied hedonist of After Hours. In a message teasing the new album, he reinforced the optimistic speculation about the album, writing, “A new path awaits. When today ends, I’ll discover who I am.”

While he has yet to reveal the release date for Hurry Up Tomorrow, the release of “Dancing In The Flames” will surely raise the anticipation for the upcoming album.

The Weeknd has had a fascinating career arc. He went from being anonymous to being one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century in the span of less than a decade. The rollout for his new album, though, suggests a breakthrough. Musically, perhaps, but lyrically. Hurry Up Tomorrow has been touted as the final Weeknd release, and if “Dancing In the Flames” is any indication, fans are in for an absolute classic. The new single is as epic and transcendent as its title would suggest.

There’s a definite 80s bounce to the production. Anybody familiar with The Weeknd’s music will know that the singer likes to get in his retro bag from time to time. The synthetic drums really drive the feel here, which is a good thing. “Dancing In the Flames” also flips the lyrics of one of the singer’s biggest hits, “Can’t Feel My Face,” in its opening verse. “I can’t wait to see your face. Crash when we’re switching lanes,” The Weeknd sings. “My love’s beyond the pain. But if I miss the brake.” Before he couldn’t feel his face, but know, he’s looking towards a more hopeful future. Or tomorrow, as the album title suggests. It’s been a long wait, and it was worth it.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art Announces ‘KAWS: FAMILY’ Exhibition Set For March 2025

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will present a major solo exhibition of work by KAWS. Opening in March 2025, KAWS: FAMILY will feature a broad mixture of the artist’s works – drawings, paintings, sculptures, altered advertisements, and product collaborations – that examine complex, familiar, and astonishingly heartfelt entryways into human emotions.  

Since the late 1990s, KAWS has been creating a cast of iconic characters steeped in the American zeitgeist that populate his work. Each with their own distinct personality pulled in part from their creator, these characters have been a constant throughline in the artist’s career. The exhibition takes its title and thematic jumping-off point from the sculpture titled FAMILY (2021), which brings together four of the KAWS’ characters posed in the style of a family portrait. As witnessed throughout the show, the relationships between the figures can be complex, familiar, and astonishingly heartfelt entryways into human emotions.  

“Part of the brilliance of KAWS’ work is that he pulls from the world we know,” says Alejo Benedetti, curator of contemporary art at Crystal Bridges. “His characters may have recognizable elements of icons from popular culture, but at their core, the human connection is always the strongest throughline. This exhibition is a chance to introduce this great artist to our audiences and invite them to connect with this family of characters in meaningful ways.”  

Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), KAWS: FAMILY at Crystal Bridges is KAWS’ Arkansas solo exhibition debut. Expanding to fit Crystal Bridges’ exhibition gallery space, this presentation builds on the AGO’s original exhibition to create an experience that is uniquely suited for the museum.   

In addition to launching new exhibitions next year, progress will continue on Crystal Bridges’ nearly 100,000-square-foot expansion that is set to open in 2026. In 2025, teams will begin to transform the guest experience, providing new ways to bring American stories to life and even giving visitors a glimpse into how exhibitions are created, and artworks are reinstalled throughout the museum. During this time, the museum will remain open, with new, refreshed installations unfolding in the galleries, on the trails, and across campus. The Crystal Bridges expansion project was originally announced in 2021, with construction beginning in 2022. 

KAWS: FAMILY will be on view at Crystal Bridges from March 15, 2025, through July 28, 2025, and is curated by Julian Cox, AGO deputy director and chief curator.

Playboi Carti Announces New Album “MUSIC” And Teases Release Date

There’s a Twitter meme that circulates whenever new Playboi Carti music is teased. Or rather, when new Playboi Carti music fails to be released. “One day,” the tweet reads. “Carti will release an empty CD and tell his fans to imagine the music. They’ll be like ‘I hear it.’” The rapper didn’t drop an empty CD, much to the benefit of everyone. He kind of did the announcement equivalent, though. He told fans to expect an enormous announcement at 9:30 pm ET on September 12. They did, and what they got was info they’d already had.

Playboi Carti announced that his next album will be titled MUSIC. He confirmed that the album will be coming out very soon. He also dropped pre-order links for the box sets that will come with the album. “Album release date to be announced,” Carti’s statement read. “Digital album will be available near the release date, no later than six months from April 18th, 2025.” So, basically, fans got confirmation on the fact that Playboi Carti is dropping an album soon. The album was already being listed as MUSIC on the rapper’s Genius page. He made an announcement for a release date announcement in the future…

Playboi Carti Confirmed That A Release Date Is Imminent

It could be worse, of course. Playboi Carti could have said nothing, and not provided any updates. That said, fans weren’t thrilled. We detailed some of the most disappointed reactions here. Adin Ross, who’s had his complications with Carti in the past, commented on the rapper’s Instagram announcement. He voiced what a lot of fans were feeling after the pre-order pump fake. “Can I have my money back,” Ross wrote.

There is good news for Playboi Carti fans, though. The rapper may have built things up and let fans down with his album announcement, but his lead single, “All Red,” is dropping September 13. “All Red” was first teased in 2023, so it’s been a long, long time coming. The release will not kick off the official MUSIC era for fans, but it will provide a proper introduction for the deeper voiced Carti that we’ve all been curious to hear more from.

Azealia Banks Accuses Kanye West Of Beating His Wife In Twitter Rant

Azealia Banks will say just about anything. She says it with conviction, and has torched a few dozen celebrities in the past as a result. She’s also been on the wrong side of Twitter beef, and been called out for problematic behavior. It subsequently makes it difficult to determine when she’s telling the truth or not. Azealia Banks had an absolute explosive Twitter rant on September 11. She went after a number of targets, but the most shocking accusations were leveled at Kanye West. Banks stated, as though she knows for a fact, that West physically abuses his wife, Bianca Censori.

The whole rant took place in the early hours of the morning. Azealia Banks posted a screenshot of a termination notice issued to Milo Yiannopoulos. Yiannopoulos previously worked for West, but has been increasingly vocal about his opposition towards the rapper’s various antics. Azealia Banks laid into the controversial Yiannopoulos, calling him names and making bold assertions about his personal life. It’s when the focus shifted to Kanye West, though, that the rest of Twitter locked in.

Azealia Banks Claims Ye Threw A Chair At His Wife

Azealia Banks claimed that the former Ye employee had implicit knowledge of the domestic abuse going on behind closed doors. “Tell the world about how Kanye is Beating up Bianca Censori,” she wrote. “And how he threw a chair at northwest the other day big mouth.” Banks didn’t provide context, as she was too busy throwing out other accusations, but this bold claim definitely stood out. Kanye West has never been formally accused of domestic abuse, but he has been attacked for perceived “emotional abuse” towards Censori in the past. Yahoo! News ran an entire article on the public backlash to Censori’s appearances in public, and how the rapper treats her like a “piece of meat.”

As was previously stated, though, Azealia Banks is not a reliable source. She also has criticized Kanye West for years. She dubbed the rapper a “fat smelly loser” when he was beefing with Nicki Minaj in 2023. Banks also roasted West’s album Donda on Instagram Live in 2021. “Two f*cking years,” she noted. “To drop this redundant sh*t? Gosh. Is this a Kanye West record or what?” It’s unlikely there will be a follow up on Banks or West’s part regarding the allegations, but they are admittedly alarming.

Playboi Carti Drops Box Set Pre-Orders Instead Of Music And Fans Are Mad

He really had fans going there for a second. Playboi Carti set the music world on fire for a couple hours on September 12. He dropped a link teasing a major announcement at 9:30 pm ET. Immediately, the fans went wild with theories. Is Playboi Carti finally dropping a single? Could he be dropping a release date for the new album? Maybe even the album itself! The possibilities were endless. Then 9:30 rolled around, and we discovered what the announcement was.

Playboi Carti decided to release box sets to accompany his unreleased album. Well, scratch that. He released pre-order links for the box sets for the unreleased album. One of them comes with a hoodie, another comes with a t-short, the last one with a hat. All three pieces of clothing have the logo for his upcoming album, MUSIC, emblazoned on them. It’s not a bad thing in a vacuum, but Playboi Carti had everybody scrambling for something big. The hype leading up to the announcement did not meet the announcement itself. Fans were not happy.

Playboi Carti Teased An Impending Release Date

The meme machine was swift and efficient. Carti fans fired up the old standbys, like comps of bricked shots and that one image of the guy applying clown makeup in the mirror. “F*ck you playboi carti and ur mysterious sh*t we all know ur just sum normal a*s mf fake as f*ck,” wrote one particularly angry Twitter user. Others were less aggressive, and simply tired of being given the runaround. “Playboi Carti. We are tired,” another user tweeted. “We are sick of this. Please give us what we want.”

There is some silver lining to be gleaned from the pre-order drop. Well, sort of. Playboi Carti issued a statement confirming that the release date for the album will be “announced soon.” An announcement for the announcement. Like we said, sort of. Tyla Shut Down An Online Controversy Over Her VMAs Request With An Astute Observation

These days, it seems like folks on the internet can turn just about anything into a controversy. Case in point: During Tyla’s acceptance speech at last night’s MTV VMAs, she made a simple, relatable request that commenters on Twitter (never calling it “X”) twisted into a case of… bullying(?) one of the two presenters, fellow singer Halle Bailey. While being presented the moon person for Best Afrobeats, she expressed surprise at the weight of the statuette, joking, “I’m not strong enough!”

Offering the moon person to Lil Nas X, who was presenting alongside Halle, Tyla asked, “Can you hold it for me?” Twitter promptly lit up with accusations that she wanted Halle to hold it for her (although Nas was the one who ended up taking it). “Halle said baby I am NOT the help,” wrote one commentewrote one commenter Hold your own award boo. Tyla tried it.” Another added, “Halle tried handing her the cards & she brushed her off but expected her to hold her award.”

Tyla herself, though, wasn’t having any of it, shutting down such speculation with an astute observation: “Y’all make everything weird… I was not asking my girl Halle… We just girls.” She also offered those detractors some friendly advice: “STFU I WON A VMAAAA.”

Ever since her single “Water” became a ubiquitous hit, Tyla has become something of a lightning rod for manufactured controversy. In a recent interview with the Breakfast Club, she was asked a question about her coloured identity — which she had specifically asked them not to do — and before that, she was criticized for taking a photo with Representative Nancy Pelosi by fans who disagreed with Pelosi’s policies (if they even know what those polices are).

For all these folks, here’s some more advice, free of charge: Seek therapy.

Earlier this week, Taylor Swift took to Instagram to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States. She penned a lengthy message about Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, explaining how she feels as though their values align with hers. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” she wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift’s post prompted a response from Elon Musk, who took the opportunity to shoot his shot. “Fine, Taylor, you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” he said. For obvious reasons, most social media users found his Tweet extremely creepy, including Azealia Banks.

Azealia Banks Is Disgusted By Elon Musk’s Taylor Swift Tweet

“F*cking disgusting. Why would Taylor want his raggedy dick anywhere near her,” she replied earlier today. “The f*cking Caucasity. Syphilis spreading erik the red type sh*t.” In a subsequent Tweet, Banks suggested that Swift take legal action against Musk over the bizarre message. “Nah this is actual sexual harassment. Taylor should flex on his a** and sue him for loads of cash n level up to be the most undefeatable richest woman in the history of music. Take his f*cking money taylorrrrrrr!!!!” she wrote.

“Put his a** in a hole sis. Lmao the pop girlies would all be so crumb. I love this,” Banks added. “Lmao the heart attack kanye will have when she is ULTRA -UNREACHABLE levels of WEALTHY of his daddy elons back bwahahahaha.
