Did Biggie Want To Leave Bad Boy Records & Diddy Behind Before His Death?

Diddy’s ongoing legal issues have led to a wide array of deep dives into his character, as well as his past conduct. According to a new report in Rolling Stone, Biggie planned to leave Diddy and Bad Boy Records in the days leading up to his untimely death. Although no one can confirm this information 100 percent, eyewitnesses and sources close to the famed rapper offer quite damning evidence against Diddy’s cause. The report is fairly comprehensive and outlines an alleged pattern of behavior from Diddy that would likely drive any self-respecting rapper such as Biggie to depart the Bad Boy label if true. So, let’s dive into the available information and unpack the story.

The Issues Stem From A Financial Dispute

Long before this new report about Biggie hit the web, Diddy and Bad Boy Records had been maligned for being cursed. Many hip hop fans have noted throughout the years that droves of Bad Boy signees have fallen on hard times. This includes financial disputes, physical violence, and lengthy prison sentences. The so-called Bad Boy curse famously affected Shyne, a Bad Boy rapper who received a 10-year prison sentence for a nightclub shooting that involved Diddy. In the case of Biggie, it seems that he was in a fight with Diddy and the mega-label during his final months regarding finances and publishing rights.

Per the Rolling Stone report, Biggie was in the process of lawyering up before his passing in 1997. When pressed about the publishing at the time, Diddy is quoted as purportedly saying, “I will never give it up until I’m dead and my bones are crushed into powder.” So, there was allegedly bad blood developing behind the scenes. Biggie and Diddy always appeared to get along well in public settings, though Tupac Shakur’s negative view of the Bad Boy head honcho is one of the main contributing factors to the explosive East Coast vs. West Coast beef.

Biggie’s Mom Weighs In

The Notorious B.I.G.’s own mother has recently come out to condemn Diddy, specifically stating, “I hope that I see Sean one day and the only thing I want to do is slap the daylights out of him.” While her strong words aren’t necessarily related to Diddy’s relationship with her late son, it seems clear that Volleta Wallace wouldn’t offer such strong words regarding the Bad Boy founder if she believed that he and Biggie had ended things on good terms.

According to a write-up in People, it seems that Wallace’s wish to slap Diddy stems from her knowledge that he allegedly abused his former girlfriend Cassie on camera and held a great deal of jealousy regarding Biggie’s friendship with Tupac. While speaking with the press, Wallace continued, “I liked him. I didn’t want to believe all the awful things, but I’m so ashamed and embarrassed.”

Diddy Took Biggie’s Spot On The Rolling Stone Cover

To further indicate the growing animosity between Biggie and Diddy, former Bad Boy partner Kirk Burrowes claims that Diddy refused to let Biggie take his place on the cover of Rolling Stone shortly after the “Who Shot Ya” rapper’s death. Apparently, Diddy was scheduled for a July 1997 cover shoot, though Burrowes and Rolling Stone agreed that the space would be better reserved for the recently slain rapper, arguing that Diddy would have plenty of chances to appear on the cover later.

Diddy refused and took the cover position for himself, apparently stating, “No, he’s dead. I’m putting out No Way Out in July. I need to be on the cover of Rolling Stone,” according to Burrowes. Indeed, there were many growing tensions at the label, which fans were not aware of up to this point. As more information comes to light about Diddy’s ongoing legal and personal drama, stories like this will likely continue surfacing.

Drew Gordon, Former NBA Star, Dies In Car Accident: What We Know

Former NBA player Drew Gordon has died at 33. Drew, the older brother of Denver Nuggets power forward Aaron Gordon, passed away following a car crash in Portland, Oregon. His death caused an outpouring of emotions in the basketball and sports world. Drew was a journeyman during his career, playing in several European countries and for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA.

Drew was a proud husband to his wife, Angela, and a loving father to their three kids, Jayden, Zayne, and Brody. It is really a sad time for the Gordon family as they navigate this difficult phase. Here’s all we know about Drew Gordon’s death.

How Did Drew Gordon Die?

On May 31, 2024, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office released a statement detailing how deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash. The accident involved a Vanderhall Carmel three-wheeled autocycle and a GMC Sierra pickup truck. The casualty occurred at S. Springwater Road near S. Stevens Road in unincorporated Clackamas County, just outside Portland, Oregon. In the statement, the Sheriff’s Office identified Drew E. Gordon as the driver of the Vanderhall. Sadly, Drew died at the scene. Meanwhile, the GMC had two occupants: the 25-year-old driver, Navarro Quintor, from Oregon City, and an unidentified passenger. Navarro and the passenger were transported to a local hospital, where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office further said that its inter-agency Criminal Reconstruction and Forensic Technicians (CRAFT) team visited the scene. Their preliminary investigation indicated that Drew crossed over the center line with his vehicle and collided with the GMC. Although impairment didn’t appear to be a factor in the collision, the Sheriff’s Office noted that they were still carrying out investigations.

Reactions To Drew Gordon’s Death

Drew’s brother Aaron Gordon’s team, the Denver Nuggets, shared a post on X mourning his demise. The post featured a black-and-white photo of Drew and Aaron touching hands while facing opposite directions. Accompanying the picture was a tribute that read, “1990 – 2024 Drew Gordon. The Denver Nuggets Organization is devastated to learn about the tragic passing of Drew Gordon. Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones.” The Denver Nuggets concluded their tribute by commiserating with Aaron and the Gordon family as they deal with Drew’s death.

Meanwhile, former Orlando Magic star Michael Carter-Williams posted a tribute on X. He wrote, “Rest in paradise Drew Gordon. A great husband, father and teammate. @Double0AG I’m praying for you and your family. I love you and I’m sorry for your loss 💔.” Former Los Angeles Lakers player Earvin Magic Johnson also paid tribute to Drew. He wrote, “Continued condolences and prayers for the Gordon family following the loss of son, brother, husband, father, teammate and friend to many, Drew Gordon. Drew is the older brother of Denver Nuggets star Aaron Gordon and a former professional basketball player himself. 🙏🏾.” Many more NBA stars and fans have also paid tribute to Drew and expressed condolences to the Gordon family. However, Aaron has yet to comment on the matter.

Drew Gordon’s Career

Despite not being as popular as his younger brother, Aaron, Drew enjoyed a successful basketball career. According to CBS Sports, he began his college career at UCLA, where he enjoyed two fairly successful years. Afterward, he transferred to New Mexico for his junior season. Drew was impressive at New Mexico, averaging 13 points and 10 rebounds per game in two seasons. However, he didn’t make the 2012 NBA Draft though he still played for the Dallas Mavericks in the Summer League.

Drew moved to Serbia to play in the Euroleague. He joined Partizan and played there for a season, averaging 9.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Drew went on to play for several teams in nine different countries, including the U.S. He played nine times in the NBA for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014-2015 season. He also had spells in Italy, Turkey, France, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, and Japan.

Drew’s Family

Drew is survived by his wife, Angela, and their three sons, Jayden, Zayne, and Brody. They tied the knot in 2019. In February, he shared a post on his Instagram page wishing Angela a happy birthday and joked that she was turning 21. Twelve-year-old Jayden is Drew’s first son. He got to travel around Europe with his dad during his career. Zayne turned five in April, while Brody was born in January 2022 in Kyiv, Ukraine. The Russia-Ukraine war began a month after Brody’s birth, forcing the late basketballer to flee the country with his family. Drew was a family man and shared pictures and videos of his family’s beautiful moments on social media. Besides the famous Aaron, Drew has a sister, Elise, who is a Havard graduate and NBA agent.

Denzel Curry Reveals Insane Feature List For Possibly His Second To Last Album

Denzel Curry easily possesses one of the most consistent discographies out of any rapper from the 2010s era. You could throw up his run of Imperial, TA13BOO, ZUU, UNLOCKED, and Melt My Eyez See Your Future against almost anyone. With nearly each release, especially when it is conceptual, Zel has one upped himself each time. Even when it comes to the shorter and straightforward releases like ZUU and UNLOCKED, he is still delivering engaging material. Yet and still, Denzel Curry somehow finds himself in this weird middle ground between mainstream and “underground”. Well, he is certainly gunning for more of a widespread appeal on his forthcoming project.

NFR Podcast and numerous others have discovered that Curry is grabbing some major players for what is to be one of his last records. The Florida multi-hyphenate shared what may be the cover art, which includes a shelf of some iconic hip-hop’s most iconic albums on IG. In that post he tagged all of the guests, and they are incredible. Fans can expect to hear the likes of A$AP Rocky & Ferg (FERG), 2 Chainz, Ski Mask The Slump God, Ty Dolla $ign, That Mexican OT, and more. We still do not have a release date yet, nor the title of the LP, although a few names have circled.

The two most popular include ULTRAGROUND and ZXLTRXN BIG ULTRA. While those bits of information are up in the air, we also hope that the end Denzel’s music career is still an unknown. As we mentioned, this has the possibility of being one of his last bodies of work. Potentially, it could be his second to last. Four years ago, Curry revealed to XXL that he would dropping three more albums after 2020. We got the first of the supposed three with Melt My Eyez in 2022, so this impending ’24 effort would leave room for one more. Zel also mentioned that he has been working on a manga, wants to get into acting, and has aspirations of becoming animator/director. Whatever the road ahead looks like for him, we are going to enjoy the ride for now.

What are your thoughts on the feature list for the upcoming Denzel Curry album? Who are you the most excited to hear on this unnamed project and why? How do you feel about this being one of his last LPs?What kind of direction would you like to see him go in? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Black Thought, Common & Freeway Spit Alongside Method Man & Redman For “4,3,2,1” Remix

“4,3,2,1” is a classic hip-hop posse cut from LL Cool J, Canibus, DMX, and Master P from 1997’s Phenomenon by LL which clearly still lives on. Moreover, a slew of amazing MCs remixed the cut at The Roots’ Picnic Festival during J.Period’s Live Mixtape set on Saturday (June 1). Black Thought, Common, Method Man, Redman, and Freeway linked up to give this instrumental a new rendition, and fans seemed pretty impressed both online and in the live setting. Black Thought in particular spit over a lot of classic instrumentals as well, including Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck,” Raekwon’s “Ice Cream,” and GZA’s “Shadowboxin’.”

“30 Years Ago Today w. 6 one way tickets in hand we took a risk and left our beloved City Of Philadelphia for the shaky shores of Londontown — specifically Camden — the East Village Of London,” Questlove wrote of The Roots’ Picnic Festival and this particular moment with Black Thought and company. “2 weeks into our stay we did our first festival (a last min side stage add on to [Glastonbury]) and we promised hook or crook we would bring a festival to our city.

Questlove’s Post Thanking Black Thought, Common, Method Man, Redman & Freeway For Their Amazing “4,3,2,1” Rendition

“In 2008 that dream came true when the first @rootspicnic came to fruition,” Questlove continued, later adding a comment in his caption about this Black Thought, Common, Freeway, Method Man, and Freeway link-up. “We wanted quality acts & a variety (some older names, some newer names, some right up your alley and especially the “wtf!!!?” variety——-keeps y’all guessing)——I’m especially proud of our ability to pick em when they are brand new. […] This moment was epic: @methodmanofficial @redmangilla @phillyfreeway @common @jperiodbk @stroelliot & their fearless leader @blackthought making it look so easy. Thank You Philadelphia.”

Full Live Mixtape Set At The Roots’ Picnic Festival 2024

You can see the full “4,3,2,1” remix at around the 13-minute and 45-second mark of the video above.

Meanwhile, hopefully this showing from Black Thought and company went better for Method Man crowd-wise compared to how disappointed he was with Summer Jam’s crowd recently. “Not our crowd at all..” he wrote of the event. “Thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete and Ebro I got love for you guys, but never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me.. #nevercomingback.”

Questlove Celebrates Historic Roots Picnic + Grand Marnier’s Debut

Screen Shot 2024 06 03 at 2.43.50 PM

The Roots Picnic, Philadelphia’s beloved music festival organized by Questlove, witnessed a historic moment as five legendary rappers graced the stage together. Questlove, drummer and co-founder of The Roots, took to Instagram to share the significance of the event and its origins.

“30 Years Ago Today with six one-way tickets in hand, we took a risk and left our beloved City of Philadelphia for the shaky shores of Londontown — specifically Camden — the East Village of London,” Questlove reminisced. “Two weeks into our stay, we did our first festival (a last-minute side stage add-on to [Glastonbury]) and we promised, hook or crook, we would bring a festival to our city.”

That dream materialized in 2008 with the inaugural Roots Picnic. “This moment was epic: @methodmanofficial, @redmangilla, @phillyfreeway, @common, @jperiodbk, @stroelliot & their fearless leader @blackthought making it look so easy. Thank you, Philadelphia,” Questlove added.

Among the heartfelt responses, Freeway expressed his gratitude: “Thank you for allowing me to be a part of history!”

The two-day Roots Picnic featured an impressive lineup with Jill Scott and Nas headlining Saturday, and Lil Wayne (accompanied by The Roots), André 3000, and Gunna headlining the final day. The highlight was Black Thought, Common, and Freeway teaming up with Method Man and Redman for a star-studded remix of “4,3,2,1.” Their collaboration during J.Period’s Live Mixtape set saw Black Thought delivering fresh verses over iconic beats like Wu-Tang Clan’s “Protect Ya Neck” and Method Man’s “Bring the Pain” and Redman’s “Tonight’s Da Night.”

Adding to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere, Grand Marnier made its debut, offering attendees a unique blend of music and taste. On Friday, the brand kicked off its presence on the festival grounds, where attendees aged 21 and over experienced Grand Marnier’s world through live entertainment and signature cocktails, including the Grand Margarita made with Cordon Rouge.

Grand Marnier’s connection with the hip-hop community was palpable, underscoring its commitment to the genre. The immersive activation allowed festival-goers to relax and enjoy specialty drinks, photo moments, and more, creating a memorable encounter between music and fine cognac.

The Roots Picnic continues to grow, uniting legendary artists and fans while celebrating the deep-rooted culture of hip-hop and music. This year’s event not only honored musical legends but also introduced new flavors, setting a high bar for future festivals.
