Prince’s Iconic Aura Echoes Through Minnesota Timberwolves Gameday Culture

Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ Commemorates 40th Anniversary With 4K UHD and Digital Release

As the Minnesota Timberwolves fight for their championship aspirations tonight (May 30), a Minneapolis legend aura presides over the franchise. The one and only Prince’s DNA is etched into the fabric of the state, and his iconic single, “When Doves Cry,” will serve as the battle song for the Timberwolves faithful.

“He would’ve loved to be sitting front row so he could rep his city,” Londell McMillan, Prince’s longtime friend and former attorney told ESPN. “He would’ve loved Anthony Edwards and the chemistry, and Jaden McDaniels, because he likes tough play. He was a tough guy. The balance of the team, he would’ve saw them as a band that’s well-refined.

“The one thing he might’ve said is that he liked the white shirts, but he would’ve been like, where’s the purple?”

McMillan is referring to the white tees worn by the fans in unison to support the team as they battle Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks. However, the Purple One’s energy vibrates across the area, including a mural of the late superstar donning a parking building’s wall, hovering over the First Avenue nightclub from Purple Rain lore.

According to ESPN, “When Doves Cry” has been the Wolves’ go-to song since 2012. They use “Let’s Go Crazy” to rile up the crowd in the fourth quarter and “Controversy” when a ref flubs a call.

Numerous celebrities graced the Target Center sidelines, but Prince was a mainstay and brought a different level of excitement. An avid basketball fan, beyond what was comedically portrayed in Chappelle’s Show, Prince would hone in on the Timberwolves’ offense, echoed by former player and coach Sam Cassell and point guard Troy Hudson.

Prince’s history also includes playing basketball at Bryant Junior High School, Junior Varsity basketball at Central High School in St. Paul, and pickup games.

Even though Dave Chappelle’s iconic Comedy Central program Chappelle’s Show has been off the air for over a decade, it remains celebrated as one of the greatest comedic shows in television history, with fans still frequently referencing its sketches. One of the most famous segments was “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories,” where comedian Charlie Murphy recounted an unforgettable story about the late music legend Prince. Murphy revealed that Prince was a phenomenal musician and an impressive basketball player who outplayed Murphy and his friends in a game while dressed in high heels and club attire.

Micki Free of Shalamar also participated in the game. In a recent interview with VladTV, he confirmed Charlie Murphy’s story, affirming that it is 100% true. Sharing the tale from his perspective, Free expressed his amazement at Prince’s basketball skills, echoing the surprise and admiration felt by everyone else who witnessed it.

There is currently a rise in women’s basketball popularity behind the star power of players like A’Ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark. But Prince was a fan of the Minnesota Lynx before it became trendy, celebrating their 2015 championship at Paisley Park.

Today, celebrations at Paisley Park continue. The annual gathering of Prince fans, known as Celebration, is returning to Paisley Park and various venues throughout Minneapolis from June 20-24, 2024. This year’s event coincides with the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain and will feature themed programming throughout the weekend.

In partnership with First Avenue, Paisley Park will present The Revolution—Wendy, Lisa, Bobby Z, Brownmark, and Dr. Fink—performing in honor of the Purple Rain milestone. These historic concerts will occur at the legendary First Avenue on Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22. Morris Day, New Power Generation, and many more artists will perform during the festivities.

“We are excited to have the Revolution return to Minneapolis to celebrate Prince and the 40th Anniversary of Purple Rain! Along with Morris Day, we will celebrate Prince and his iconic history! Join us and Let’s Go Crazy!,” said Bobby Z, Drummer of The Revolution.

McMillan added, “We continue to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of the greatest works ever created, Purple Rain, 40 years later. Celebration 2024 marks the beginning of a year-long series of events honoring Prince and his magnum opus.”

On Saturday at Citi Field, the ceremony is already in motion to retire the jersey of one of The Amazin’ Mets’ most beloved players of all time, Darryl Strawberry. However, The Straw recently just recovered from a massive heart attacxk that he suffered back in March, but says that he’s “100%” and ready for the New York franchise to retire #18.

The L.A. native opened up to TMZ about the recent health crisis, claiming that things were so bad during the “massive” heart attack, physicians couldn’t believe that the eight time MLB All Star survived.

“My heart was pumping at 40 percent,” said Strawberry. “So, there was a lot going on. There was not a lot of blood flowing through my heart at that particular time.” His wife Tracy managed to get him to the hospital in time before the situation worsened. Straw now uses his health scare to warn others.

“We only got one shot at this life,” he said, “make it count.”

The Mets will officially hang Strawberry’s number 18 jersey in the rafters among some of Mets greatest stars on Saturday, June 1 as the Amazins host the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Nicki Minaj said she wouldn’t wish her recent treatment at the Amsterdam airport on her worst enemy in a new interview addressing the incident. A week ago, the Queens rapper livestreamed as she was detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam for possession of marijuana. After the weed was discovered, airport authorities searched all of her luggage and questioned her, causing the postponement of her upcoming show in Manchester, England.

Although she previously released a statement thanking fans for their support, Nicki went more in-depth during a livestream on Stationhead, saying, “Not being able to get to Manchester, I don’t know when was the last time I felt that low. Not only that, but knowing that something is being done to you on purpose simply because you are a confident other race.”

She continued, “There was one lady there — all the rest were men — and I could tell she had a heart. The treatment was just disgusting, and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.”

The incident did not stop Ms. Minaj from announcing the second North American leg of her Pink Friday 2 tour, which will pick up when she returns to the States in September and include dates in her hometown, Queens, New York.

Megan Thee Stallion Breaks Down How Female Rappers Have ‘A Line That You Don’t Want To Cross’

Megan Thee Stallion is one of the biggest rappers of the past few years, but on her road to the top, the journey was different than those of her male contemporaries. Megan discussed that some in a new interview.

In a fresh feature from L’Officiel, Meg explained:

“For female rappers, there’s a line that you don’t want to cross. You want to be Miss Congeniality. You want to be well liked by everyone. You want to be the baddest, you want to be the best, but you want to do it the right way. I did have to learn that there is no right way. Whoever you are, be that. If you crazy, be crazy. If you nice, be nice. If you mean, be mean. If you sad, be sad. Whatever your lane is, just be that. Be your real true self.”

She also said of the theme behind her upcoming album, “We don’t just stop at the snake. This is just what everybody sees right now. Renewal, rebirth: that is the whole concept of this [album]. We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in western culture. Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality. I’m not really a person that’s like, ‘Oh my God, sunshine,’ and just super bubbly, happy. I like darker things. I like things that are a little scary. I like things that are unique. I picked the snake because… it’s kind of like an antihero.”

Donald Trump Allegedly Used N-Word Against Black Contestant On “The Apprentice”

Though there have long been rumors that Donald Trump used the n-word, an ex-producer of “The Apprentice” is now categorically asserting that he did. Bill Pruitt, who produced the first season of the popular NBC show in 2004 and continued to work on it for many years thereafter, recently wrote an essay on Slate in which he claims the former president used the epithet in reference to a Black participant. He asserts that Trump used the n-word when thinking of the first-season finalists. The finalists were Kwame Jackson, the runner-up, and Bill Rancic, who won the competition in 2004.

According to Pruitt’s account of the event, Jay Bienstock, the showrunner of “Apprentice,” Carolyn Kepcher, who oversaw Trump’s hospitality divisions at the time, and Pruitt himself got together to talk about the last two men, which Pruitt maintains was a recorded moment. He claims that this exchange was intended to be captured on camera to precede Trump’s final choice. The team informed Trump about their choices. It is alleged that he recoiled at the idea that Kwame ought to be given priority.

Donald Trump Allegedly Used The N-Word In 2004

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – MAY 30: Donald Trump speaks to the media as he arrives to court for his hush money trial at Manhattan Criminal Court on May 30, 2024 in New York City. According to Pruitt, when Kepcher said, “I think Kwame would be a great addition to the organization,” Trump supposedly frowned in response. According to Pruitt, after several issues, Trump questioned Kwame about why he hadn’t fired Omarosa. Kwame’s staff responded by claiming Kwame lacked the authority to do so. Then Trump allegedly said, “Yeah, but, I mean, would America buy a n***** winning?” Pruitt believes that when after Trump said this, he winced more and more. He allegedly gave the impression that he was serious about not wanting Kwame to win. Pruitt also claims that Kepcher became pale after hearing this. After that, Bienstock is said to have shifted the conversation’s focus to George Ross, one of Trump’s lawyers, who was also purportedly there.

Following that, according to Pruitt, no one acknowledged what Trump had said. Moreover, the purportedly recorded moment and other odious things Trump had allegedly said while filming were never released. There is no evidence to support Trump’s long-standing denial that he ever said it. There have been no comments from those involved outside of Pruitt. Overall, the alleged Donald Trump n-word video may still be out there.

Megan Thee Stallion Reveals How Women Rappers Are Expected To Carry Themselves Compared To Men

Megan Thee Stallion’s years in the public eye have taught her some lessons on the best ways to be. That’s one of the things she discusses in a newly released interview with L’Officiel. In the piece she shared some advice for female rappers and also revealed how she arrived at the philosophy she now follows. ““For female rappers, there’s a line that you don’t want to cross. You want to be Miss Congeniality, you want to be well liked by everyone. You want to be the baddest, you want to be the best, but you want to do it the right way,” she begins.

While it’s evocative for Megan to claim there’s a “right way” for her and her contemporaries to act, it’s not what it seems. She opened up further on her philosophy of trying your hardest to be yourself because no matter what you do, people will criticize. “I did have to learn that there is no right way. Whoever you are, be that. If you crazy, be crazy, if you nice, be nice. If you mean, be mean, if you sad, be sad. Whatever your lane is, just be that. Be your real true self,” Meg concludes. Check out her full interview with the publication discussing a variety of subjects below.
