Russell Brand Faces New Sexual Assault Lawsuit: Report

Russell Brand has been named in a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault on the set of the 2011 film Arthur. The woman, who filed the suit under the name Jane Doe, claims that Brand exposed his penis to her and later assaulted her in a bathroom. Furthermore, the suit alleges that prior to both incidents, Brand “appeared intoxicated, smelled of alcohol, and was carrying a bottle of vodka on set.” Of the bathroom assault, the woman claimed that Brand sexually assaulted her while “a member of the production crew guarded the door from the outside.”

Additionally, the woman claims she was hired to do three days of work on the film. However, she alleges that she was asked not to return after the first day. Additionally, she claims she was only paid for that day. Jane Doe becomes the sixth woman to allege sexual assault on the part of Brand. The allegations were first reported by British news outlet Channel 4. Several criminal investigations in the United Kingdom have been launched as a result.

Russell Brand Allegations: What We Know

As mentioned, at least five women have come forward with allegations concerning Brand, many dating back several years. This has led to a number of police investigations in the United Kingdom. While the London Metropolitan Police are handling most of the allegations, an investigation was also opened by the Thames Valley Police. In a statement issued in early October, the Thames Valley Police acknowledged they had reopened an investigation into stalking and harassment claims made against Brand between 2018 and 2022.

Meanwhile, one woman has alleged Brand sexually assaulted while she was a minor. Elsewhere, another woman has claimed Brand raped her in Los Angeles in 2012. Brand, once the golden child of 2000s British alternative culture, has denied all the allegations against him. Brand found an audience with his roguish behavior and outspoken style. However, Brand has performed a hard shift into wellness content and conspiracy theories in recent years. This, as well as a number of unsavory public incidents, saw him lose almost all of his mainstream momentum.

Shenseea & Lola Brooke’s “Beema” Single & Music Video Bring The Baddie Energy

Shortly after confirming that her debut album is on the way, Lola Brooke continues to make her presence felt with a new collaboration. This New Music Friday (November 3), it was Shenseea who Brooke joined forces with as the island gyal channelled her Jamaican roots for an infectious new single called “Beema.”

Shenseea’s beau, London on da Track came through with production, alongside Dready and Philip Cornish. The song begins with a sample of Louie Rankin setting the tone, declaring, “Don’t you ever bring scared business to me.
You’re lookin’ at the toughest rassclaat Jamaican in the United States of America.” When it’s her turn to show off her rhyming skills, the mother of one doesn’t hold back, spitting “You gon’ make me flash on a b**ch like paparazzi / I’m too fly to crash out, but f**k it, kamikaze” as the first verse concludes.

DJ Akademiks Claims Drake Tried To Mediate SZA Beef

During a recent conversation with DJ Vlad, DJ Akademiks recalled Drake calling him in the midst of his beef with SZA. “It was a very polite call. But, you know, they are very close friends and they were doing the album at the time. He wanted to see if there was any middle ground that could be reached. But I just told that it was an axe I needed to grind from a couple years back. I just needed to pop off, I got no issue with her. I love her and I actually went back on my platform and I said that listen, I was sending nothing but love and light,” Akademiks explained.

SZA has been targeted a couple of times by the outspoken DJ, most recently in August of this year. Ak received heavy backlash after fat-shaming SZA on his massive social platform. “Let me keep it a bean, SZA is as fat as me. That’s 100 percent facts. This is why when b-tches call me fat, I be laughing. You wh-res are fat, just like me. […] You suck that fat out of [your chin] and put it into your a– and your a– be looking lopsided. Your belly button be looking weird because they move that b-tch around, it’s like tic-tac-toe,” Ak said in the heavily-criticized rant.

Akademiks Questions Drake’s Jewish Identity

Furthermore, while Drake tried to play peacemaker on this occasion, he has also often been a target of Ak’s ire. In recent months, Drizzy had his Jewish identity questioned over his silence on the Israel-Palestine conflict. “I do think when it comes to Drake and Khaled, it’s probably a concerted effort of not trying to isolate people. It’s like, ‘If I say something, what will it even matter?’” Ak reasoned. However, he went in harder on Drake, especially in regards to Drake’s Jewish heritage. “I think he’s gone away from trying to be the, ‘Hey, this is the Jewish rapper,’” he theorized.

Drake did eventually break his silence on the conflict, signing a widely-circulated letter calling for a ceasefire. “We urge your administration, Congress, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay. An end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages. Half of Gaza’s two million residents are children, and more than two-thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them,” the letter that Drake signed read in part.

The organization has taken important health information and put it into songs recorded by popular multi-generational artists, making it easily digestible and universally accessible. Essentially, HHPH uses music for health education, and its resources have proven to save lives.

Among its many notable achievements, HHPH received the Cannes Lions UN Health Grand Prix for Good Award in 2022 for its “Lil Sugar” campaign (voiced by HHPH Artist Advisory Board Member Darryl “DMC” McDaniels), which warned of the potentially harmful effects of sugar.  Additionally, former First Lady Michelle Obama hand-picked HHPH to produce the soundtrack for her “Let’s Move” campaign, aimed at reducing childhood obesity.

Looking ahead to 2024 and beyond, HHPH CEO Lori Rose Benson took the stage to announce HHPH’s new Health MCs Ambassador Program, which seeks to provide 100,000 educators over five years with the tools to bring fun and effective health education to young people in a range of learning environments – in-school, out-of-school, community settings, summer camps and more.
